The decline in seedling growth of Malania oleifera as the age increases is often observed in the absence of host plants. A better knowledge of nutrient dynamics in terms of concentration and distribution patterns in different parts of the declining seedlings, the concentrations of N, P, and K were comparatively analyzed in various organs of unattached M. oleifera seedlings grown for half a year, two years, and three years. Additionally, the starch content and distribution patterns in the roots and stems of seedlings with different vigor levels were qualitatively assessed by staining cross-sections. The results were as follows: (1) As the growth vigor of M. oleifera seedlings declined, the concentrations of N, P, and K in most organs decreased, except for a significant increase in K concentration in lateral roots. The leaf N/P ratios of the declining seedlings became increasingly imbalanced, indicating different nutrient deficiency types among the seedlings with varying decline degrees. Unattached M. oleifera seedlings grown for half a year were primarily limited by insufficient N supply (with an average N/P ratio of 11.33) and subsequently by P limitation after two years (average N/P ratio 17.81). The leaf N/P ratio of unattached M. oleifera seedlings grown for three years was remarkably imbalanced (with an average value of 52.46). As the growth vigor of unattached three-year seedlings was considerably low, they are deemed unsuitable for afforestation. (2) A decrease in starch content was observed in declining seedlings, as evidenced by the reduced staining intensity of cross-sections. After three years, the starch content of unattached M. oleifera seedlings was found to have decreased to an extremely low level. Significant differences in starch content were observed at various locations, including the connecting point of the stems and roots, the basal swelling top of the root, the main root, and lateral roots, among seedlings with different degrees of decline. These findings suggested that starch content levels could serve as crucial criteria for evaluating the growth vigor of seedlings. Specifically, lateral roots were identified as optimal sampling materials for assessing seedling growth vigor through a minimally invasive method. Given the gradual decline in vitality and decreased nutrient content observed in M. oleifera seedlings grown in the absence of a host plant, it is recommended, during the propagation phase, to ensure adequate mineral nutrient supplementation, select appropriate host plants for cultivation, and facilitate early-stage transplantation. This proactive approach serves to mitigate a potential decline in survival rates during afforestation, attributed to the reduced vitality of the seedlings. The results of this study provide valuable information for evaluating seedling growth vigor and offer scientific guidance for rational fertilization in M. oleifera nurseries.

BACKGROUND We aim to investigate the potential causal link between blood pressure (BP) levels and cerebral artery dissection (CAD) risk by employing a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) framework. METHODS Utilizing large-scale genome-wide association studies-retrieved data, we employed various Mendelian randomization (MR) techniques, including inverse variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger regression, weighted median, and weighted mode, to ascertain BP's causal impact on CAD. The MR-Egger intercept was calculated to assess pleiotropy presence, determining heterogeneity by Cochran's Q statistic. RESULTS The findings highlighted a significant association between elevated systolic BP (SBP; IVW: OR = 3.09, 95% CI: 1.11–8.61, P  = 0.031) and increased diastolic BP (DBP; IVW: OR = 2.17, 95% CI: 1.14–6.21, P  = 0.023) with CAD risk. Sensitivity analyses reinforced the robustness and reliability of these results. CONCLUSIONS The results from this TSMR study suggest a causal link between high SBP and DBP and the increased likelihood of CAD, which provides genetic evidence for a reduced risk of CAD under BP control. Summary: α‐Glycosidase, a critical therapeutic target in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), can be modulated by inhibitors to reduce postprandial blood glucose levels. This study investigated the inhibitory effects of vine tea (Ampelopsis grossedentata) and its key compounds on α‐glycosidase. The results demonstrated that fifteen varieties of vine tea extracts inhibited α‐glycosidase in a dose‐dependent manner, with IC50 values ranging from 5.25 to 35.8 μg mL−1. HPLC analysis revealed dihydromyricetin (DHM) as the main compound in vine tea, with an IC50 value of 262.50 μM. Notably, the synergistic combination of DHM and the antidiabetic drug acarbose (ABS) significantly enhanced inhibitory effectiveness, with the optimal ratio (1:125) yielding a potentiation index (CI) of 0.09. Fluorescence and molecular docking analyses supported the hypothesis that DHM enhanced ABS's inhibitory effect through complex formation and specific interactions, offering a promising option for safer and more effective diabetes therapy. Theoretical and empirical research indicates that insecure attachment with parents may function as a mediator between aversive parenting and adolescent depression. However, no longitudinal research has differentiated the roles of internal representations of parental attachment, especially the roles of the two internal working models (i.e., the self-model and the other model) in the longitudinal relation from harsh parenting to adolescent depression and whether adolescent mindfulness can play a moderating role in such relationships. Six hundred and forty-five school children completed a paper-and-pencil questionnaire in school three times with two eight-month intervals (338 girls and 307 boys, mean age = 13.45), and data on harsh parenting, internal working models, and depression were collected at three time points, and mindfulness were collected only at Time 1. Results demonstrated that among adolescents low in mindfulness, harsh parenting could undermine positivity of the self-model, which could further elevate the risk of adolescent depression. In comparison, these predictive relations did not exist among highly mindful adolescents. To our knowledge, this study is the first one to differentiate the roles of the two elements of internal working models in a longitudinal research design, which highlights the significant role of the impaired self-model in the development of adolescent depression in the context of aversive parenting.
