Abstract

BackgroundChronic wounds have been a great burden to patients and the health care system. The popularity of the internet and smart devices, such as mobile phones and tablets, has made it possible to adopt telemedicine (TM) to improve the management of chronic wounds. However, studies conducted by different researchers have reported contradictory results on the effect of TM on chronic wound management. ObjectiveThe aim of this work was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TM in chronic wound management. MethodsWe systematically searched multiple electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL]) to identify eligible studies published from inception to June 12, 2019. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and interventional cohort studies that investigated the use of TM in chronic wound management. RCT and observational data were analyzed separately. A meta-analysis and qualitative analysis were conducted to estimate endpoints. ResultsA total of 6 RCTs and 6 cohort studies including 3913 patients were included. Of these, 4 studies used tablets or mobile phones programmed with apps, such as Skype and specialized interactive systems, whereas the remaining 8 studies used email, telephone, and videoconferencing to facilitate the implementation of TM using a specialized system. Efficacy outcomes in RCTs showed no significant differences in wound healing (hazard ratio [HR] 1.16, 95% CI 0.96-1.39; P=.13), and wound healing around 1 year (risk ratio [RR] 1.05, 95% CI 0.89-1.23; P=.15). Noninferiority criteria of TM were met. A decreased risk of amputation in patients receiving TM was revealed (RR 0.45, 95% CI 0.29-0.71; P=.001). 8. Influencing factors of the approval of the Young Scientists Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China: a case study of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine

Abstract

Objective·In view of the low funding rate of the Young Scientists Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China in the medical field, this research conducted an in-depth investigation of the applicants in a medical school and quantitatively analyzed the influencing factors of project establishment, so as to provide reference for further improving the quality of project application and strengthening the training of young medical talents.Methods·A cross-sectional survey was used to select applicants from secondary schools of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and its 13 affiliated hospitals who had experience in applying for the fund from 2020 to 2022. Logistic stepwise regression model was applied to modeling and analysis by using the project application result as the dependent variable and the applicants' basic information and application status as independent variables.Results·The analysis results of 921 applicants showed that educational background (OR=1.86, 95%CI 1.14‒3.04), graduate university (OR=2.45, 95%CI 1.47‒4.08), sufficient preliminary work foundation (OR=4.22, 95%CI 2.44‒7.29), average impact factor of representative works (OR=1.10, 95%CI 1.04‒1.17), and total self-evaluation score of application documents (OR=1.06, 95%CI 1.04‒1.08) were the main influencing factors for project approval. The average impact factor and the highest impact factor of the approved representative works showed an increasing trend year by year. In addition, the influencing factors for the approval of young doctors and full-time researchers were different. The longer the graduation time of young doctors, the lower the approval rate.Conclusion·The funding rate of Young Scientists Fund is low, and the requirements for scientific research achievements are increasing year by year. Attention should be paid to early accumulation and improving the quality of application writing. Further measures should be taken to strengthen the early training of young medical talents, improve cultivation measures and consolidate research foundations.

41. Screening and Evaluation of Amplicons of Maize Endogenous Reference Genes Based on Next-Generation Sequencing Technology

Abstract

In this study, 13 amplification regions (amplicons) were designed by analyzing the nucleotide sequences of seven endogenous reference genes reported in previous studies. Totally 208 common maize varieties (lines) were used for high-throughput sequencing analysis of these 13 amplicons, and their sequence conservation, specificity, detection stability and dynamic detection range were evaluated to select appropriate amplicons of the endogenous reference genes for quantitative detection of maize DNA content or copy number based on next-generation sequencing technology. The results showed that the detection rates of the 13 amplicons of the seven endogenous reference genes were 94.7%–100% in the 208 maize samples, while they were not detected in 25 non-maize samples of rice, soybean, cotton and Chinese cabbage, indicating that these amplicons met the standards of high intraspecies consistency and interspecies specificity. Intraspecies conservation analysis showed that E3-UBI-1 did not contain single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) or insertion deletion (InDel), while the remaining 12 amplicons contained at least one SNP or InDel. Stability analysis showed that the most unstable amplicon in these endogenous reference genes was IVR, and the most stable one was ADH1-2. Their dynamic detection range was 0.2–200 ng. Based on these results, ADH1-2 and E3-UBI-1 are suitable amplicons of the endogenous reference genes for quantitative detection of maize DNA content or transgenic maize components on the next-generation sequencing platform.
