9. Experimental study on treatment of Pb ion wastewater by alkali fusion modified steel slag

Abstract

A modified steel slag adsorbent was prepared with composite modifier(NaOH or Al(OH)3+fly ash) at high temperature. The effects of alkali melting temperature, alkali melting time and alkali doping on the adsorption performance of Pb(Ⅱ) was investigated. Chemical composition, mineral composition, microstructure and pore size was analyzed with XRF, XRD, SEM, BET and other methods. The heavy metal leaching toxicity, regeneration ability and selectivity of the modified steel slag prepared under the optimal conditions were investigated. The results showed that the best adsorption of Pb(Ⅱ) was achieved under the conditions of 700 ℃ alkali melting temperature, 4 h alkali melting time and 100∶10∶20 mass ratio of steel slag, fly ash and Al(OH)3. There was not new crystal in the modified steel slag, but the original crystal structure was destroyed, and porous aluminum silicate salt with certain activity was formed. Loose fine molten particles were accumulated on the surface of steel slag, and pore size was concentrated in the range of 5-20 nm. Under the combined effect of pore adsorption, chemical precipitation and ion exchange, the removal rate of Pb(Ⅱ) from wastewater reached 98.15%. The modified steel slag adsorbent had better regeneration and selectivity, which was a green and safe heavy metal ion adsorbent.

10. Lycopene inhibits pyroptosis of endothelial progenitor cells induced by ox-LDL through the AMPK/mTOR/NLRP3 pathway

Abstract

The malfunction of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) due to ox-LDL is a risk contributor for arteriosclerotic disease. Meanwhile, lycopene possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidative qualities. This investigation aimed to determine if lycopene can protect EPCs from ox-LDL-induced damage and to elucidate the underlying mechanism. The effects of lycopene on the survival, migration, and tube-forming capacity of EPCs were determined via in vitro assays. Expression of proteins related to pyroptosis and cellular proteins related to AMPK/mTOR/NLRP3 signaling was determined by western blot/flow cytometry. Our results demonstrated that lycopene treatment significantly enhanced proliferation, tube formation, and migration of EPCs stimulated by ox-LDL. Additionally, lycopene was found to suppress pyroptosis in ox-LDL-induced EPCs through the activation of AMPK, which led to the inhibition of mTOR phosphorylation and subsequent downregulation of the downstream NLRP3 inflammasome. In summary, our study suggests that lycopene mitigates ox-LDL-induced dysfunction in EPCs and inhibits pyroptosis via AMPK/mTOR/NLRP3 signaling. Our study suggests that lycopene may act as promising therapies for preventing atherosclerosis.

Abstract

Recently, massive architectures based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and self-attention mechanisms have become necessary for audio classification. While these techniques are state-of-the-art, these works' effectiveness can only be guaranteed with huge computational costs and parameters, large amounts of data augmentation, transfer from large datasets and some other tricks. By utilizing the lightweight nature of audio, we propose an efficient network structure called Paired Inverse Pyramid Structure (PIP) and a network called Paired Inverse Pyramid Structure MLP Network (PIPMN). The PIPMN reaches 96\% of Environmental Sound Classification (ESC) accuracy on the UrbanSound8K dataset and 93.2\% of Music Genre Classification (MGC) on the GTAZN dataset, with only 1 million parameters. Both of the results are achieved without data augmentation or model transfer. Public code is available at: https://github.com/JNAIC/PIPMN
