2. Screentone-Aware Manga Super-Resolution Using DeepLearning

Abstract

Manga, as a widely beloved form of entertainment around the world, have shifted from paper to electronic screens with the proliferation of handheld devices. However, as the demand for image quality increases with screen development, high-quality images can hinder transmission and affect the viewing experience. Traditional vectorization methods require a significant amount of manual parameter adjustment to process screentone. Using deep learning, lines and screentone can be automatically extracted and image resolution can be enhanced. Super-resolution can convert low-resolution images to high-resolution images while maintaining low transmission rates and providing high-quality results. However, traditional Super Resolution methods for improving manga resolution do not consider the meaning of screentone density, resulting in changes to screentone density and loss of meaning. In this paper, we aims to address this issue by first classifying the regions and lines of different screentone in the manga using deep learning algorithm, then using corresponding super-resolution models for quality enhancement based on the different classifications of each block, and finally combining them to obtain images that maintain the meaning of screentone and lines in the manga while improving image resolution.

16. Quantum interference and spin polarization on Rashba double quantum dots

Abstract

We report on the quantum interference and spin accumulation on double quantum dots with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and electron-electron interaction, based on the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green function formalism. It is shown that Rashba spin-orbit interaction can strongly affect the conductance spectrum. By gradually increasing the Rashba parameter from zero, Fano resonances in strong overlap regime continuously evolve to resolve antiresonances. This transition is ascribed to the phase shift of couplings between molecular states and the lead due to spin precession. We also show that both bias and Rashba effect strengthen the induced spin polarization in this device. For particular energy position, up- and down-spin electron occupation can intersect to form a crossing point. Spin polarization on different side of this point has opposite sign in consequence. The magnitude and direction of spin polarization are therefore controllable by tuning the dot levels and the Rashba parameter through gates., Comment: 7 figures

Abstract

The spin-Hall effect in the two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) generates symmetric out-of-plane spin Sz accumulation about the current axis in the absence of external magnetic field. Here we employ the real space Landauer-Keldysh formalism [B. K. Nikolic et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 046601 (2005); Phys. Rev. B 73, 075303 (2006)] by considering a four-terminal setup to investigate the circumstances in which this symmetry is broken. For the absence of Dresselhaus interaction, starting from the applied out-of-plane B corresponding to Zeeman splitting energy 0 - 0.5 times the Rashba hopping energy tR, the breaking process is clearly seen. The influence of the Rashba interaction on the magnetization of the 2DEG is studied herein. For coexisted Rashba tR and Dresselhaus tD spin-orbit couplings in the absence of B, interchanging tR and tD reverses the entire accumulation pattern., Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, appears in the proceedings of 10th MMM/INTERMAG conference

Abstract

A spin interferometer utilizing the Rashba effect is proposed. The novel design is composed of a one-dimensional (1D) straight wire and a 1D half-ring. By calculating the norm of the superposed wave function, we derive analytical expressions to describe the spin interference spectrum as a function of the Rashba coupling strength. Presented spin interference results are identified to include (i) the quantum-mechanical 4pi rotation effect, (ii) geometric effect, and (iii) Shubnikov-de Haas-like beating effect., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, appears in the proceedings of the 10th Joint MMM/Intermag Conference

Abstract

A persistent spin helix (PSH) in spin-orbit-coupled two-dimensional electron systems was recently predicted to exist in two cases: [001] quantum wells (QWs) with equal coupling strengths of the Rashba and the Dresselhaus interactions (RD), and Dresselhaus-only [110] QWs. Here we present supporting results and further investigations, using our previous results [Phys. Rev. B 72, 153305 (2005)]. Refined PSH patterns for both RD [001] and Dresselhaus [110] QWs are shown, such that the feature of the helix is clearly seen. We also discuss the time dependence of spin to reexamine the origin of the predicted persistence of the PSH. For the RD [001] case, we further take into account the random Rashba effect, which is much more realistic than the constant Rashba model. The distorted PSH pattern thus obtained suggests that such a PSH may be more observable in the Dresselhaus [110] QWs, if the dopants cannot be regularly enough distributed., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

28. Student-Led Campus Happiness Lunchboxes: Paying for Positive Impact.

Abstract

In the aftermath of the 2022 Russian–Ukrainian war, Taiwan experienced economic shocks that prompted the government to initiate the happiness lunchbox program, aimed at fostering sustainable development and zero hunger concerns. Despite these efforts, economically disadvantaged university students faced challenges due to the unconventional outsourcing of campus meals. This study, conducted by leveraging campus culinary facilities, adopts an inferred value approach as opposed to the subjective willingness-to-pay (WTP) method, providing a more conservative assessment of students' willingness to contribute. Through regression analysis, this study highlights the positive correlation between student engagement in charitable activities and WTP for student-led events. This involvement not only enhances food safety and hygiene but also reflects a genuine commitment to supporting financially challenged students. The comprehensive nature of this approach effectively tackles issues related to campus nutrition, emphasizing the significance of establishing a sustainable campus environment to achieve objectives such as "zero hunger" and "responsible consumption and production" on campus.
