Abstract

Efficient photocatalysts play an important role in the various fields such as pollutant treatment and the generation of clean energy. Therefore, developing a photocatalyst with high activity is of great significance. Herein, scandium‐based fluorescent microspheres (Sc‐FMs) are facilely prepared through the one‐pot hydrothermal polymerization of scandium ions and tartaric acid. The prepared Sc‐FMs show strong blue solid‐state fluorescence, with a maximum emission at 412 nm. Meanwhile, Sc‐FMs possess a strong white‐light photocatalysis ability, which can be used for the photodegradation of dye pollutants (rhodamine 6 G) under low power white light without the assistance of any radical generating agents. In addition, the Sc‐FMs display good stability and recyclability. As a result, this new and efficient Sc‐FMs photocatalysts hold a promise for potential applications in environmental treatment. 29. Room-Temperature Growth of Morphoplastic Scandium Nanowires through Coordination-Induced Self-Assembly for White-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine.

Abstract

Photoactive nanowires play an important role on the photoelectric-related applications; however, the in situ large-scale growth of photoactive nanowires on the arbitrary substrate still faces a great challenge. Herein, for the first time, we develop a facile coordination-induced self-assembly strategy for preparing the nanowires with high photoactivity through keeping a high concentration of Sc-(NO3)3 and tartaric acid (TA) aqueous solution at room temperature. Surprisingly, the nanowires can grow directionally along the direction of water flow on any substrate due to the growth mechanism driven by water molecules, showing that the proposed nanowires are morphoplastic depending on the direction of liquid flow. The formation of nanowires has been proved to be attributed to the synergistic effect of water molecule-involved hydrogen bonding between hydroxyl groups of TA ligands as well as the multi-coordination of Sc3+ ions. Meanwhile, the prepared nanowires are highly photoactive, showing a strong photooxidation ability toward rhodamine 6G dyes, with a degradation efficiency of about 95.8% within 40 min. This finding introduces a coordination growth mechanism of nanowires, which not only provides a great possibility for large-scale and low-cost synthesis of photoactive nanowires with morphoplastic features but also shows a good application prospect in water cleaning by the photocatalysis technique. Abstract

The exciton effect in two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) plays a dominating role in describing the optical and optoelectronic properties. However, the interplay between the excitons and free carriers has not yet been understood upon photoexcitation in 2D TMDs. Here, we first present a study of the dynamical interplay of excitons and unbound electron–hole pairs using time-resolved terahertz (THz) spectroscopy (TRTS) in a few-layer WS2laminate. Our experimental results demonstrate that the Auger recombination is observed in the relaxation process of the mobile charge carriers rather than that of excitons upon photoexcitation. The transient complex THz photoconductivity spectroscopy of WS2is well described by the Drude–Lorentz model of free carriers modulated by the exciton polarization field. Our results provide a comprehensive understanding of nonequilibrium carrier kinetics (both excitons and free carriers) in WS2laminate, and should be applicable to other 2D systems.
