Abstract: A new Fe-based amorphous soft magnetic alloy with the nominal composition of Fe83P16Cu1 was produced by melt-spinning technology. After annealed at 563K for 120s, the alloy consists of nanosized grains embedded in amorphous matrix. The nanocrystalline soft magnetic alloy shows good soft magnetic properties such as high saturation magnetic flux density 1.65T and low coercivity 8.7A/m. The simple composition together with low crystallization temperature and short annealing time make this soft magnetic alloy a promising candidate for industry use. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Soft magnetic alloy ribbons Fe 81 Si 4 B 12− x P 2 Cu 1 M x (M = Cr, Mn and V; x = 0, 1, 2, 3) were prepared by the single roller melt spinning method. The effects of Cr, Mn and V substitution for B on the glass forming ability, microstructure and magnetic properties were investigated. Partial substitution of B by Cr or Mn decreases the glass forming ability of this alloy system, while proper substitution by V effectively improves the glass forming ability, widens the temperature interval between two crystallization onset temperatures and optimizes the soft magnetic properties of this alloy system. The Fe 81 Si 4 B 10 P 2 Cu 1 V 2 alloy annealed at 425 °C for 10 min shows excellent magnetic properties with low coercivity H c of 8.1 A/m, high magnetic flux density B 8000 of about 1.72 T. Good glass forming ability, large temperature interval between two crystallization onset temperatures and excellent magnetic properties make this alloy a promising candidate for future industrial application. The single phase Bi 0.95 Sm 0.05 Fe 1- x Nb x O 3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1) nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol-gel route, and the effect of Nb substitution on their magnetic, ferroelectric and photocatalytic properties were studied. X-ray diffractometry confirms a phase transformation from rhombohedral to orthorhombic with an increase in Nb substitution. The grain size decreases significantly, and the morphology of grains becomes homogeneous with the increase of Nb concentration. The maximum remnant magnetization (0.014 emu/g), coercivity (565 Oe) and polarization (0.592 μC/cm2) are observed in Bi 0.95 Sm 0.05 Fe 0.9 Nb 0.1 O 3. It has been observed that the energy band gap has been slightly reduced from 2.14 to 2.03 eV with Nb substitution, indicating an improvement of photocatalytic activity. The methylene blue degradation is used to represent the photocatalytic ability of Bi 0.95 Sm 0.05 Fe 1- x Nb x O 3 nanoparticles. The highest degradation efficiency (~74%) of methylene blue is obtained in Bi 0.95 Sm 0.05 Fe 0.93 Nb 0.07 O 3 , which is much higher than that of Bi 0.95 Sm 0.05 FeO 3 (~51%) and can be attributed to the optimum particle size and the smallest energy band gap.
