We report neutron scattering, pressure-dependent AC calorimetry, and AC magnetic susceptibility measurements of triangular lattice NaYbSe$_2$. We observe a continuum of scattering, which is reproduced by matrix product simulations, and no phase transition is detected in any bulk measurements. Comparison to heat capacity simulations suggest the material is within the Heisenberg spin liquid phase. AC Susceptibility shows a significant 23~mK downturn, indicating a gap in the magnetic spectrum. The combination of a gap with no detectable magnetic order, comparison to theoretical models, and comparison to other $A$YbSe$_2$ compounds all strongly indicate NaYbSe$_2$ is within the quantum spin liquid phase. The gap also allows us to rule out a gapless Dirac spin liquid, with a gapped $\mathbb{Z}_2$ liquid the most natural explanation., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; 7 pages and 13 figures supplemental materials

Digital quantum simulation of many-body dynamics relies on Trotterization to decompose the target time evolution into elementary quantum gates operating at a fixed equidistant time discretization. Recent advances have outlined protocols enabling more efficient adaptive Trotter protocols, which have been shown to exhibit a controlled error in the dynamics of local observables and correlation functions. However, it has remained open to which extent the errors on the actual generator of the dynamics, i.e., the target many-body Hamiltonian, remain controlled. Here, we propose to use quantum Hamiltonian learning to numerically obtain the effective Hamiltonian and apply it on the recently introduced ADA-Trotter algorithm as a concrete demonstration. Our key observation is that deviations from the target generator remain bounded on all simulation times. This result suggests that the ADA-Trotter not only generates reliable digital quantum simulation of local dynamics, but also controllably approximates the global quantum state of the target system. Acoustic wave modulation plays a pivotal role in various applications, including sound-field reconstruction, wireless communication, and particle manipulation, among others. However, current acoustic metamaterial and metasurface designs typically focus on controlling either reflection or transmission waves, often overlooking the coupling between amplitude and phase of acoustic waves. To fulfill this gap, we propose and experimentally validate a design enabling complete control of reflected and transmitted acoustic waves individually across a frequency range of 4 kHz to 8 kHz, allowing arbitrary combinations of amplitude and phase for reflected and transmitted sound in a broadband manner. Additionally, we demonstrate the significance of our approach for sound manipulation by achieving acoustic diffusion, reflection, focusing, and generating a two-sided 3D hologram at three distinct frequencies. These findings open an alternative avenue for extensively engineering sound waves, promising applications in acoustics and related fields.

Noise pollution is a persistent environmental concern with severe implications for human health and resources. Acoustic metamaterials offer the potential for ultrathin devices with exceptional sound control capabilities. However, most lack practical openness and offer limited functional bandwidth. This paper introduces an approach utilizing a 3-unit cell phased array-based ultra-open metamaterial (3-PAUOM) to simultaneously achieve high-efficiency, broadband sound insulation combined with a high degree of ventilation. The central unit cell allows for ventilation and forms a phase gradient together with the side unit cells. The transformation of the incident plane waves into surface waves effectively blocks sound. Our design accommodates various boundary conditions and provides adjustable openness, ensuring sustained broadband sound insulation. Using length-varying straight barriers and waveguides, we theoretically, numerically, and experimentally validate our concept. This innovative approach represents a significant advancement in ventilated acoustic metamaterials, providing both ventilation and high-performance, broadband sound insulation simultaneously.

We propose a novel framework based on the attention mechanism to identify the sentiment of a movie review document. Previous efforts on deep neural networks with attention mechanisms focus on encoder and decoder with fixed numbers of multi-head attention. Therefore, we need a mechanism to stop the attention process automatically if no more useful information can be read from the memory.In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-head attention architecture (AdaptAttn) which varies the number of attention heads based on length of sentences. AdaptAttn has a data preprocessing step where each document is classified into any one of the three bins small, medium or large based on length of the sentence. The document classified as small goes through two heads in each layer, the medium group passes four heads and the large group is processed by eight heads. We examine the merit of our model on the Stanford large movie review dataset. Neural quantum states (NQSs) have emerged as a novel promising numerical method to solve the quantum many-body problem. However, it has remained a central challenge to train modern large-scale deep network architectures to desired quantum state accuracy, which would be vital in utilizing the full power of NQSs and making them competitive or superior to conventional numerical approaches. Here, we propose a minimum-step stochastic reconfiguration (MinSR) method that reduces the optimization complexity by orders of magnitude while keeping similar accuracy as compared to conventional stochastic reconfiguration. MinSR allows for accurate training on unprecedentedly deep NQS with up to 64 layers and more than $10^5$ parameters in the spin-1/2 Heisenberg $J_1$-$J_2$ models on the square lattice. We find that this approach yields better variational energies as compared to existing numerical results and we further observe that the accuracy of our ground state calculations approaches different levels of machine precision on modern GPU and TPU hardware. The MinSR method opens up the potential to make NQS superior as compared to conventional computational methods with the capability to address yet inaccessible regimes for two-dimensional quantum matter in the future.

The accurate detection of sperms and impurities is a very challenging task, facing problems such as the small size of targets, indefinite target morphologies, low contrast and resolution of the video, and similarity of sperms and impurities. So far, the detection of sperms and impurities still largely relies on the traditional image processing and detection techniques which only yield limited performance and often require manual intervention in the detection process, therefore unfavorably escalating the time cost and injecting the subjective bias into the analysis. Encouraged by the successes of deep learning methods in numerous object detection tasks, here we report a deep learning model based on Double Branch Feature Extraction Network (DBFEN) and Cross-conjugate Feature Pyramid Networks (CCFPN).DBFEN is designed to extract visual features from tiny objects with a double branch structure, and CCFPN is further introduced to fuse the features extracted by DBFEN to enhance the description of position and high-level semantic information. Our work is the pioneer of introducing deep learning approaches to the detection of sperms and impurities. Experiments show that the highest AP50 of the sperm and impurity detection is 91.13% and 59.64%, which lead its competitors by a substantial margin and establish new state-of-the-art results in this problem.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been widely used in pipeline detection and underground diagnosis. In practical applications, the characteristics of the GPR data of the detected area and the likely underground anomalous structures could be rarely acknowledged before fully analyzing the obtained GPR data, causing challenges to identify the underground structures or abnormals automatically. In this paper, a GPR B-scan image diagnosis method based on learning in the model space is proposed. The idea of learning in the model space is to use models fitted on parts of data as more stable and parsimonious representations of the data. For the GPR image, 2-Direction Echo State Network (2D-ESN) is proposed to fit the image segments through the next item prediction. By building the connections between the points on the image in both the horizontal and vertical directions, the 2D-ESN regards the GPR image segment as a whole and could effectively capture the dynamic characteristics of the GPR image. And then, semi-supervised and supervised learning methods could be further implemented on the 2D-ESN models for underground diagnosis. Experiments on real-world datasets are conducted, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been widely used to estimate the healthy operation of some urban roads and underground facilities. When identifying subsurface anomalies by GPR in an area, the obtained data could be unbalanced, and the numbers and types of possible underground anomalies could not be acknowledged in advance. In this paper, a novel method is proposed to improve the subsurface anomaly detection from GPR B-scan images. A normal (i.e. without subsurface objects) GPR image section is firstly collected in the detected area. Concerning that the GPR image is essentially the representation of electromagnetic (EM) wave and propagation time, and to preserve both the subsurface background and objects' details, the normal GPR image is segmented and then fused with simulated GPR images that contain different kinds of objects to generate the synthetic data for the detection area based on the wavelet decompositions. Pre-trained CNNs could then be fine-tuned with the synthetic data, and utilized to extract features of segmented GPR images subsequently obtained in the detection area. The extracted features could be classified by the one-class learning algorithm in the feature space without pre-set anomaly types or numbers. The conducted experiments demonstrate that fine-tuning the pre-trained CNN with the proposed synthetic data could effectively improve the feature extraction of the network for the objects in the detection area. Besides, the proposed method requires only a section of normal data that could be easily obtained in the detection area, and could also meet the timeliness requirements in practical applications.

Feed-forward neural networks are a novel class of variational wave functions for correlated many-body quantum systems. Here, we propose a specific neural network ansatz suitable for systems with real-valued wave functions. Its characteristic is to encode the all-important rugged sign structure of a quantum wave function in a convolutional neural network with discrete output. Its training is achieved through an evolutionary algorithm. We test our variational ansatz and training strategy on two spin-1/2 Heisenberg models, one on the two-dimensional square lattice and one on the three-dimensional pyrochlore lattice. In the former, our ansatz converges with high accuracy to the analytically known sign structures of ordered phases. In the latter, where such sign structures are a priory unknown, we obtain better variational energies than with other neural network states. Our results demonstrate the utility of discrete neural networks to solve quantum many-body problems.

The Environmental Microorganism Image Dataset Seventh Version (EMDS-7) is a microscopic image data set, including the original Environmental Microorganism images (EMs) and the corresponding object labeling files in ".XML" format file. The EMDS-7 data set consists of 41 types of EMs, which has a total of 2365 images and 13216 labeled objects. The EMDS-7 database mainly focuses on the object detection. In order to prove the effectiveness of EMDS-7, we select the most commonly used deep learning methods (Faster-RCNN, YOLOv3, YOLOv4, SSD and RetinaNet) and evaluation indices for testing and evaluation.
