Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) combined with behavioral assessments was used in our study to investigate the dynamic process of motor cortical functional reorganization after infarction. Therefore, we could provide a theoretical basis and build a useful evaluation system for rehabilitation after stroke and various other cerebral injuries.Acute stroke patients with a single lesion in the middle cerebral artery supply area and age- and sex-matched healthy volunteers were recruited. A longitudinal observational study involving 20 patients with stroke was conducted using repeated fMRI. Task-based fMRI data were acquired 3 times over a period of 3 months. The behavioral assessment included dynamometer and finger-tapping tests to evaluate the strength and dexterity of each upper arm.Behavioral results: The behavioral assessments demonstrated large improvements in session 2 and session 3. fMRI results: The healthy group showed activation in the contralateral primary sensory-motor cortex (S1M1) when executing tasks with either the left or right hand. Compared with the healthy subjects, the patients demonstrated greater activation in the ipsilateral frontal and parietal cortices and supplementary motor areas (SMAs). Across all sessions, more motor activation was observed in the left infarction group.Our results show that motor cortical activation induced by moving the paretic hand changes over time. There were differences in motor functional recovery and motor cortex compensation between the dominant hemisphere and nondominant hemisphere after stroke.

Our society has been facing a decentralizing effect on multiscale complexity in low-carbon transitions. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the roles of transaction rate, energy and carbon market regulation, energy consumption and energy capacity in single and one-way climate policy linked system in low carbon transition for distributed energy systems through agent-based simulation. A set of agent behavioral rules for the competition of high and low carbon energies mimics the domestic and exotic local dynamics of the energy production of distributed energy systems and the energy consumption of industrial firms under the impact of energy and carbon market fluctuation. Simulation results show that a single system cannot achieve low carbon transition, while a one-way climate policy linked system can realize low carbon transition. The results also show that the larger high and low energy capacity is, the system is less likely to achieve low carbon transition in the circumstance of the same transaction rate with the constant emission policy bias. Policy implications are drawn regarding the regulation of localized carbon markets in single and climate policy linked systems.

To better understand the economic crisis impact on industry economy in low carbon transition, the simplified macroeconomic system combined with a distributed industry-energy ecosystem, namely the economy-ecosystem, was established based on an agent-based modeling approach. A set of behavioral rules for each agent involved was formalized to study the competition between high and low carbon energy under the scheme of ecological life of industrial firms, and periodical economy crisis was emerged by adjusting asymmetric adjustment speed ratio of hiring to firing and default threshold that controls the ratio between total debt and total circulating currency. The impact of the economic crisis on the ecosystem in a distributed energy system and the interaction between the economy and ecosystem in low carbon transition under different conditions of the ecosystem were investigated. Simulation results show that high carbon energy is more resistant to economic crisis than low carbon energy. Moreover, low-carbon transition with economic recession state can be reached in economy-ecosystem. Various policy implications are also given to policymakers with different technical levels and economic status.

To categorize and clinically characterize subtypes of brain structural connectivity patterns in unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). Voxel based morphometry (VBM) and surfaced based morphometry (SBM) analysis were used to detect brain structural alterations associated with TLE from MRI data. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to identify subtypes of brain structural connectivity patterns. Correlation analysis was used to explore associations between PC scores and clinical characteristics. A total of 59 patients with TLE and 100 healthy adults were included in this study. Widespread cortical atrophy was shown in both left and right TLE (P 0.05, FWE corrected). Six principal components (PCs) that explained more than 70% of the variance were extracted for left and right TLE, reflecting patterns of brain structural connectivity. PCs representing perisylvian connectivity were positively correlated with verbal IQ (left TLE: r = 0.696, P 0.001; right TLE: r = 0.484, P = 0.012) and total IQ (left TLE r = 0.608, P 0.001) and negatively correlated with disease duration (r = -0.448, P = 0.009). In left TLE, the PC in the ipsilateral mesial temporal region was negatively correlated with age at onset (r = -0.382, P = 0.028). In right TLE, the PC representing the default mode network was negatively correlated with number of antiepileptic drugs (r = -0.407, P = 0.039). This study categorized subtypes of unilateral TLE based on brain structural connectivity patterns. Findings may provide insight into seizure pathways, the pathophysiology of epilepsy, including comorbidities such as cognitive impairment, and help predict treatment outcomes.

Background: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a devastating disease that can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this study we compared 11 post-SAH PTSD patients with equal number of gender-matched SAH patients without PTSD. Methods: We used resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) to detect the amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) of whole brains. Results: Compared with the control group, ALFFs in the PTSD group increased significantly in the left amygdala, left anterior cingulate gyrus, right insular lobe and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) after SAH, but decreased significantly in bilateral lingual gyrus. Conclusions: In our limited experience, post-SAH PTSD may have specific rs-fMRI features that are different from PTSD caused by exogenous traumatic events. However, we should be cautious due to the relatively small sample size of this preliminary study. The results may be helpful for the classification of PTSD and lay the foundation for the design of treatment strategy in the future.

The aim of this study was to investigate the occurrence, correlated factors and prognosis of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in patients with Cushing’s disease (CD). A total of 49 patients who were newly diagnosed with CD and underwent transsphenoidal surgery in our hospital from April 2015 to August 2017 were asked to participate in this study. Another group of 49 age and sex matched healthy control participants were also included for comparison. PTSS (measured with Impact of Event Scale-Revised, IES-R), depression/anxiety (measured with Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale, HADS) and quality of life (QoL; measured with 36-item short-form, SF-36) were evaluated at pre-surgery, 6 months post-surgery and 12 months post-surgery. The results showed that at preoperative stage, 15 (30.6%) CD patients developed PTSS, and they had higher 24 h UFC, and presented worse levels of depression, anxiety and QoL compared with patients without PTSS. Although most of them recovered postoperatively, there were still 5/15 (33.3%) patients persisted with PTSS for over a year. Additionally, one patient with recurred CD developed PTSS between 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Among the whole group of CD patients, the PTSS severity showed consistent improvement after surgery, which was in accordance with the progressing trends of depression, anxiety and psychological aspects of SF-36. However, compared with healthy individuals, CD patients in remission still performed worse in physical/mental health. In conclusion, patients with CD can develop PTSS, and they may persist for over a year even after successful surgery. Combined psychological intervention is advised for these patients.

According to the reconsolidation theory, memories can be modified through the destabilization-reconsolidation process. The rodent perirhinal cortex (PER; Brodmann areas 35 and 36) critically participates in the process of fear conditioning. Previous studies showed that some of the parahippocampal regions are critical for contextual fear memory reconsolidation. In our research, through a three-day paradigm of CFC, we showed that protein synthesis in PER of rats is required for memory reconsolidation, and activation of CB1 pathway is necessary but not sufficient in inducing memory destabilization. This result underlines parahippocampal regions in destabilization and reconsolidation process of fear memory besides amygdala and hippocampus.

The primary objective of this study was to investigate the incidence of PTSD at 3 months postoperatively in patients who were newly diagnosed with LGGs, and its association with 5-year survival. Moreover, QoL and other psychiatric disorders like depression and anxiety were also evaluated. From February 2011 to April 2013, patients who underwent low-grade glioma surgery at our hospital and come back for reexamination at 3-month follow-up were considered for this study. Interviews, HADS-A, HADS-D, and SF-36 scales were used for evaluating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and quality of life. Participants were asked to complete these assessments at 3 months after surgery. Followed-ups on survival status were made for 5 years. A total of 219 subjects comprising 83 women and 136 men with a mean age of 41.5 years were included in this study. At 3 months after surgery, 35 (16%) patients were diagnosed with PTSD. Younger age (OR = 2.23, [95% CI 1.02–4.84], P = 0.04) and frontal lobe involvement of tumor (OR = 2.57, [95% CI 1.06–6.23], P = 0.04) predicted PTSD. Patients with PTSD had higher anxiety and depression level, and had worse QoL in all eight dimensions of SF-36. Kaplan–Meier analyses demonstrated that diagnosis of PTSD was associated with shorter overall survival in LGG patients (Log-rank = 7.45, P = 0.01). After adjusting for other variables, PTSD remained associated with elevated 5-year overall mortality risk of LGG patients (HR = 2.98 [95% CI 1.10–8.05], P = 0.03). The results showed that newly diagnosed LGG patients suffering from PTSD at 3 months after surgery had lower rates of 5-year survival. In clinical practice, psychological evaluation is suggested for LGG patients and proper psychotherapy should be considered for those with PTSD.

Monoclinic TiNb2O7 (TNO) has recently been reported as a promising anode candidate for next-generation high-energy–density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Unfortunately, poor electronic and ionic conductivities have limited its practical application. In this study, we prepared selectively W6+-doped TNO to overcome these drawbacks. We demonstrate herein the effect of site-selective substitution on the electrochemical performance of TNO after selectively doping its Ti4+ and Nb5+ sites with W6+ ions. The W6+ ions were incorporated into the TNO lattice without dramatically altering the lattice parameters. The ionic substitution of both Ti4+ and Nb5+ ions with W6+ ions in TNO improved the electronic conductivity because of partial reduction of the Ti4+ and Nb5+ ions as a result of charge compensation. Compared with the Nb-substituted TNO (i.e., the TNO derivative in which some of the Nb5+ ions had been replaced by W6+ ions), the Ti-substituted TNO displayed superior transfer properties, presumably because of its lower effective mass. As a result, the Ti-substituted TNO had the highest energy storage performance with its reversible capacity reaching 156.2 mA h/g, even at a rate of 20 C. After 500 repetitive cycles at 6 C, 85.5% of the capacity was retained without significant capacity fading.

Metabolic reprogramming, hallmarked by enhanced glycolysis and reduced mitochondrial activity, is a key event in the early phase of somatic cell reprogramming. Although extensive work has been conducted to identify the mechanisms of mitochondrial remodeling in reprogramming, many questions remain. In this regard, different laboratories have proposed a role in this process for either canonical (ATG5-dependent) autophagy-mediated mitochondrial degradation (mitophagy), noncanonical (ULK1-dependent, ATG5-independent) mitophagy, mitochondrial fission or reduced biogenesis due to mTORC1 suppression. Clarifying these discrepancies is important for providing a comprehensive picture of metabolic changes in reprogramming. Yet, the comparison among these studies is difficult because they use different reprogramming conditions and mitophagy detection/quantification methods. Here, we have systematically explored mitochondrial remodeling in reprogramming using different culture media and reprogramming factor cocktails, together with appropriate quantification methods and thorough statistical analysis. Our experiments show lack of evidence for mitophagy in mitochondrial remodeling in reprogramming, and further confirm that the suppression of the mTORC1-PGC1 pathway drives this process. Our work helps to clarify the complex interplay between metabolic changes and nutrient sensing pathways in reprogramming, which may also shed light on other contexts such as development, aging and cancer.

This study was performed to investigate the effects of high-voltage electrical burns (HEB) on the pulmonary microcirculation in rabbits. Total of 120 rabbits were randomly divided into control and HEB group using a random number table. HEB model was developed with a voltage regulator and experimental transformer. Laser Doppler perfusion imager was utilized to monitor and quantify the blood perfusion in pulmonary microcirculation. The microvascular morphologic changes of the lung were observed using light microscopy and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The lung wet/dry weight ratio and the PaO2 were determined. The values of blood perfusion in rabbit pulmonary microcirculation in the HEB group were decreased at 5 min, but increased at 1 h after burn (P < 0.01) and then decreased gradually. Light microscopy reveals microthrombus formation in pulmonary venules and bleeding in venous capillaries in HEB group. We found the number of microvilli in the capillary endothelial cells decreased, the rough endoplasmic reticulum expanded and severe degranulation occurred, the mitochondrial cristae fused or disappeared, and severe edema surrounded the capillary endothelial cells by TEM. The values of lung wet/dry weight ratio were higher and the PaO2 were lower than that of before burn group (P < 0.01). These results demonstrated that microcirculatory disorders play a major role in the development of progressive lung damage after high-voltage electrical burns.

The object of this study was to reveal the occurrence, risk factors and prognosis of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in patients with trigeminal neuralgia (TN). Adult patients who were diagnosed with TN were prospectively collected from our neuroscience center. Among the 103 patients recruited, thirty (29.1%) participants were identified as probable PTSD cases measured with PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Compared with patients without PTSD, patients with probable PTSD were more likely to be female, have severe pain intensity, be with severely interfered general activities, be with more intense depression and anxiety, and be more habitually using maladaptive coping strategies. Logistic regression analysis showed female sex, severe pain intensity, anxiety and depression predicted probable PTSD. In the 28 patients who were initially identified as probable PTSD and had 6-month follow-up data, 21 reported complete pain relief and 4 reported partial pain relief. Fifteen of the patients who experienced complete pain relief recovered from probable PTSD. Our work indicated that PTSD can develop among patients with TN. Complete pain relief through surgical treatments can help most patients with probable PTSD recover, however, psychological support is advised for those who are still obsessed by mental disorders even after pain relief.

The objective of this study was to reveal the prevalence, associated risk factors, and long-term outcomes of Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in patients after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Consecutive patients admitted to our institute from January 2016 to September 2016 for a first-ever ICH were asked to participate in our study. PTSD was determined with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (fifth edition; DSM-5), and questionnaires on mental and physical status were used. Patients were followed at 3 and 12 months after ICH. Sixty-four patients were eventually included for analysis. To evaluate the perioperative safety and mid-term prognosis (≤12 months) of HydroSoft coils in treating ruptured aneurysms at the anterior circulation compared with bare platinum coils. Patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages admitted to our hospital between January 2009 and March 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. According to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, cases were selected and classified into two groups: In group A, HydroSoft coils were used as the primary filling coils (≥40 % of total coil length); in group B, only bare platinum coils were used. Cases in both groups were all treated with stent-assistance. A comparison between the two groups was performed for periprocedural complications as well as immediate and mid-term outcomes. The stents used included Enterprise, Neuroform, and Solitaire. Fifty-six aneurysms were in group A patients, and 68 aneurysms were in group B patients. Compared with group B, group A did not have increased incidence of complications but had greater packing attenuation (44.5 ± 8.8–29.8 ± 9.1 %, t = 2.577, P = 0.014) and increased initial complete occlusion rates (63–44 %, χ 2 = 4.161, P = 0.041). Radiologic follow-up were performed in 46 patients from group A and 51 patients from group B. Complete occlusion rates at follow-up were significantly greater in group A than in group B (89.1–70.6 %, χ 2 = 5.08, P = 0.043); the difference in recanalization rates were statistically insignificant between the groups (6.5–5.9 %, P = 1.000). HydroSoft coils proved safe during the periprocedural period and provided greater initial complete occlusion rates, greater packing density, and better follow-up results compared with bare platinum coils.

It was the aim of this study to investigate Nup88 expression in normal colorectal mucosa, adenoma, adenocarcinoma and lymph node metastasis, as well as the relationship between Nup88 expression and clinicopathological features.Nup88 expression was examined by immunohistochemistry in 84 normal mucosa samples, 32 adenomas, 181 primary adenocarcinomas, and 18 lymph node metastases from colorectal tumour patients.Nup88 expression was observed in normal epithelial and tumour cells. The frequency of strong Nup88 expression was increased from normal mucosa or adenoma to primary tumour and lymph node metastasis (p0.0001). There was no significant difference in the expression between normal mucosa and adenoma (p = 0.41). The frequency of strong Nup88 expression was higher in ulcerated tumours (40%) than in polypoid/large fungating tumours (23%; p = 0.048). The frequency of strong Nup88 expression was significantly different among tumours with good (21%), moderate (42%) and poor differentiation (48%; p = 0.01). Nup88 expression was not related to the patients' gender, age, tumour location, size, histological type, invasive depth, lymph node status and Dukes stage (p0.05).Our results suggest that Nup88 may play a role during the development, aggressiveness and differentiation of colorectal tumours.

To determine the safety and efficacy of endovascular therapy for the treatment of basilar artery dissection (BAD). Patients with BAD admitted to our hospital from June 2002 to December 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were made. At enrollment, patients’ manifestations were evaluated. The different devices and techniques used for each patient were recorded and further classified into two groups: the coiling-only group, in which lesions were treated only with coils; and the stented group, in which lesions were treated with only stents or by stent-assisted embolization. Shapes of BAD were described and classified into three types: dilation, pearl-and-string sign, and stenosis. Presentations of BAD were classified as ruptured or unruptured. Digital subtraction angiography results obtained immediately after intervention and at follow-up were evaluated and classified into two groups: stable/improved or recanalized/worsened. Clinical outcome was evaluated by modified Rankin Scale score. A total of 29 patients were included, and 28 of them were followed up clinically and angiographically. No significant difference of recurrence rate existed between ruptured and unruptured BAD. The coiling-only group demonstrated a significantly higher recurrence rate than the stent-assisted group. In the 22 instances of BAD presenting with dilated shapes, stented cases had better radiological outcome than unstented cases, and initial packing of completely/near completely occluded cases had better radiological follow-up results. Endovascular therapy proved safe and effective. Stent placement and initial complete occlusion were favorable factors for follow-up stable/improved outcome.

To investigate the influence of high-voltage electrical burn (HEB) on the aggregation and adhesion of platelet and leukocyte in rats and the interventional effect of pentoxifylline (PTX).One hundred and eighty SD rats were divided into control, electrical burn (EB), and pentoxifylline treatment (PT) groups according to the random number table, with 60 rats in each group. (1) Ten rats were taken from each group at 15 minutes before injury for the observation of the microcirculatory perfusion of chest skin with Laser Doppler Perfusion Imager (LDPI), and the number of leukocyte adherent to mesenteric venule with Bradford Variable Projection Microscope (BVPM). Serum was collected from heart blood to determine the contents of platelet activating factor (PAF), thromboxane B2 (TXB2), prostacyclin (PGI2), P-selectin, E-selectin and L-selectin by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The ratio of TXB2 to PGI2 was calculated therefrom. (2) Model of HEB was reproduced in the remaining 50 rats of EB group and that of PT group with voltage regulator and experimental transformer (the electrical current applied to the left forelimb and exited from the right hind limb). The remaining 50 rats of control group were sham injured with the same devices without electric current. Within 2 minutes post injury (PIM), rats in control group and EB group were intraperitoneally injected with 2 mL isotonic saline, while rats in PT group were intraperitoneally injected with 2 mL pentoxifylline (50 mg/mL). At PIM 5 and 1, 2, 4, 8 hour(s) post injury (PIH), 10 rats of every group were randomly chosen at each time point for the observation of the microcirculatory perfusion of chest skin and the number of leukocytes adherent to mesenteric venule through the same method as used above, and the levels of the related factors of aggregation and adhesion of platelets and leukocytes were determined, and then the relative ratio was calculated. Data were processed with the analysis of variance of factorial design and LSD test.The contents of PAF, TXB2, PGI2, P-selectin, E-selectin, L-selectin, and the ratio of TXB2 to PGI2, as well as the number of adhered leukocyte in EB group were higher, while the microcirculatory perfusion value was lower than those of control group, with F values from 854.20 to 8156.52, P values all below 0.01. The microcirculatory perfusion value and PGI2 content of PT group were higher, while the contents or number of other indexes were lower than those of EB group, with F values from 33.18 to 1033.99, P values all below 0.01. Only the data within EB group and PT group were comparable. The contents of PAF, TXB2, PGI2, P-selectin, E-selectin, L-selectin, and the ratio of TXB2 to PGI2, as well as the number of adhered leukocyte in EB group and PT group at each time point were significantly higher than those at 15 minutes before injury, while the microcirculation perfusion value was significantly lower than that at 15 minutes before injury (P values all below 0.001), with the exception of the ratio of TXB2 to PGI2 in PT group and E-selectin in EB group and PT group at PIM 5. The contents of PAF, TXB2, and E-selectin and the ratio of TXB2 to PGI2 in EB group peaked at PIH 4, and they were respectively (9.3 ± 0.9) ng/mL, (14.31 ± 0.65) nmol/mL, (271.2 ± 18.4) ng/mL and 4.62 ± 0.26. The contents of PGI2 and P-selectin, and the number of adhered leukocyte in EB group peaked at PIH 8, and they were respectively (3.98 ± 0.24) nmol/mL, (514 ± 24) ng/mL, and (25.50 ± 4.14) per 100 µm venule. The content of L-selectin peaked at PIH 2 [(876 ± 54) ng/mL]. The microcirculatory perfusion value was lowest at PIM 5 [(1.17 ± 0.10) V].HEB can increase the contents of PAF, TXB2, PGI2, P-selectin, E-selectin, L-selectin, the ratio of TXB2 to PGI2, and the number of adhered leukocyte, as well as decrease the skin microcirculatory perfusion value. PTX can inhibit the aggregation and adhesion of platelets and leukocytes through increasing the content of PGI2 and decreasing contents of other factors mentioned above, thus alleviating the microcirculatory dysfunction after HEB.

To observe the clinical effect of the concentrated suture fixation method on skin transplantation on deep burn wound or wound of cicatricial deformity after burn in the jaw and neck region.One hundred and fourteen patients, hospitalized from April 2002 to December 2011, with deep burn or cicatricial deformity after burn in the jaw and neck region, were divided into packaging group and concentrated suture group according to the random number table. Each group had 57 patients including 48 cases with deep burn and 9 cases with cicatricial deformity. Traditional suture-package fixation method and concentrated suture fixation method were respectively used in packaging group and concentrated suture group to fix the autologous medium split-thickness skin in transplantation on wounds or scars. On post operation day (POD) 14, the skin microcirculatory perfusion flow of skin graft was measured, and the occurrence of ecchymoma, infection, and necrosis of skin in operative region were observed. The elasticity and contracture of grafted skin and scar hyperplasia on wound edge were observed 6 months after operation. Measurement data were processed with u test, while enumeration data with Fisher's exact test or Chi-square test.(1) On POD 14, the skin microcirculatory perfusion flow in concentrated suture group [(2.86 +/- 0.8) V] was significantly higher than that in packaging group [(2.33 +/- 0.15) V, u = 17.776, P0.05]. (2) Ecchymoma occurred in 4 patients of packaging group and 3 patients of concentrated suture group, but the difference between two groups was not statistically significant (chi 2 = 0.152, P0.05). (3) Infection in operative region was observed in 1 patient of packaging group, while no patient in concentrated suture group showed this symptom. The difference between two groups was not statistically significant (P0.05). (4) Grafted skin in 6 patients of packaging group showed foliated necrosis, which was not observed on those of patients in concentrated suture group. The difference between two groups was statistically significant (P0.05). (5) Centipede leg-like scar hyperplasia on wound edge occurred in 21 patients in packaging group and 6 patients in concentrated suture group, and the difference between two groups was statistically significant (chi 2 = 10.920, P0.05). (6) Poor elasticity of grafted skin was detected in 17 patients of packaging group and 4 patients of concentrated suture group, and the difference between two groups was statistically significant (chi 2 = 9.865, P0.05). (7) Obvious contracture of grafted skin was observed in 15 patients of packaging group and 4 patients of concentrated suture group, and the difference between two groups was statistically significant (chi 2 = 11.684, P0.05).Concentrated suture fixation method is suitable for application in transplantation of big sheet skin on wound in the jaw and neck region. It has high survival rate and is convenient for postoperative observation.

To study the influence of high-voltage electric burn on the microcirculation of heart in rabbit.One-hundred and twenty New Zealand rabbits of clean grade were divided into control group (C) and electric burn group (EB) according to the random number table, with 60 rabbits in each group. Rabbits in EB group were subjected to high-voltage electric burn (the electrical current flow into the left foreleg at the lateral side of proximal end and out from the corresponding site of the right hind leg) with voltage regulator and experimental transformer. Rabbits in C group were sham injured with the same devices without electrification. At 15 minutes before injury, and 5 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8 hour (s) post injury (PIM or PIH), ten rabbits in each group were chosen to examine the cardiac apex microcirculation hemoperfusion (CAMH) with laser Doppler hemoperfusion image instrument. The morphologic changes of microvessels of left ventricular wall tissues of 2 rabbits from each of the 10 rabbits collected at above-mentioned time points were observed with light microscope and transmission electron microscope. Auricular vein blood of rabbit was harvested at above-mentioned time points for the determination of aspartate amino transferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (HBDH), creatine kinase (CK), and creatine kinase isozyme MB (CK-MB) by full-automatic biochemical analyzer. Data were processed with two-factor analysis of variance and LSD test.(1) The differences between C group and EB group in detection results were statistically significant, with F values from 425.991 to 3046.834, P values all below 0.01. Only the data within EB group were comparable. (2) At PIM 5, the CAMH value of rabbits in EB group was (1.96 ± 0.09) V, which was lower than that at 15 minutes before injury [(4.34 ± 0.35) V, P0.01]. The CAMH value of rabbits in EB group was increased at PIH 1 [(3.43 ± 0.30) V], and then it showed a tendency of decrease. (3) Bleeding and microthrombus formation were observed in venule and capillary vessel of rabbits in EB group at PIH 8. Breakage of basement membrane of capillary endothelial cells, mitochondrial swelling, and severe degranulation from damaged endoplasmic reticulum were observed in rabbits of EB group at PIH 8. (4) Levels of AST, LDH, HBDH, CK, and CK-MB in rabbits of EB group were significantly higher at PIH 1, 2, 4, 8 than at 15 minutes before injury (with P values all below 0.01). The AST level peaked at PIH 2 [(164 ± 39) U/L]. Levels of LDH and HBDH peaked at PIH 4, which were respectively (1016 ± 246) U/L and (487 ± 54) U/L. The CK level peaked at PIH 8 [(7799 ± 738) U/L]. The CK-MB level peaked at PIH 2 [(1848 ± 65) U/L].High-voltage electric burn can bring damage to the microvessels of heart in rabbits and change blood flow of microcirculation, which should be given adequate attention during the treatment.

To study the influence of transcranial high-voltage electrical burn (HEB) on rheological changes of leukocytes in mesentery capillary in rats and the therapeutic effects of ulinastatin.Forty-five SD rats were divided into control (C), electrical burns (EB), and ulinastatin treatment (UT) groups according to the random number table, with 15 rats in each group. Model of HEB was reproduced in rats of EB and UT groups with voltage regulator and experimental transformer, and then rats in EB group was intraperitoneally injected with 2 mL isotonic saline while rats in UT group was intraperitoneally injected with 2 mL ulinastatin (2 x 10(4) U/kg). Rats in C group received sham burn with the same treatment as used in EB group but without electric current. Rheological changes of leukocytes in mesentery capillary were observed with Bradford microscope at 15 minutes before HEB and 5 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8 hour (s) after HEB (PHM or PHH), including counting the number of rolling leukocytes, leukocytes rolling speed, the number of leukocytes adherent to mesentery capillary, total leukocyte-endothelium contact time (TLECT). Data were processed with t test.(1) The number of rolling leukocytes from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was increased in EB group and UT group as compared with that at 15 minutes before HEB, especially at PHM 5 [(51.4 +/- 3.2), (24.6 +/- 1.9) cells/min, respectively] which were higher than that in C group [( 1.1 +/- 0.7) cells/min, with t value respectively 59.28, 44.99, P values all below 0.05]. The number in UT group at each time point after burn was less than those in EB group, especially at PHM 5 (t = 27.97, P0.05). (2) Compared with that at 15 minutes before HEB, the rolling speed of leukocytes from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was slow in EB group and UT group, especially at PHM 5 [(90 +/- 9), (175 +/- 13) microm/s, respectively] which were slower than that in C group [(277 +/- 12) microm/s, with t value respectively 47.97, 21.59, P values all below 0.05]. The rolling speed in UT group from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was faster than that in EB group, especially at PHM 5 (t = 20.55, P0.05). (3) Compared with that at 15 minutes before HEB, the number of leukocytes per 100 micrometer capillary from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was increased in EB group and UT group, especially at PHM 5 (23.27 +/- 3.20, 5.80 +/- 1.61, respectively) which were higher than that in C group (0, with t value respectively 28.16, 13.95, P values all below 0.05). The number of adhered leukocytes in UT group at each time point after burn was less than that in EB group, especially at PHM 5 ( t = 18.89, P0.05). (4) Compared with that at 15 minutes before HEB, TLECT from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was increased in EB group and UT group, especially at PHM 5 [(14.45 +/- 1.99), (3.66 +/- 0.96) s/min, respectively] which were longer than that in C group (0 s/min, with t value respectively 28.12, 14.77, P values all below 0.05). TLECT in UT group from PHM 5 to PHH 8 was shorter than that in EB group, especially at PHM 5 (t = 18.91, P0.05). (5) No rolling leukocyte or wall-adherent leukocyte was found in blood flow of arterioles or capillaries of rats in three groups at each time point.Transcranial HEB can lead to abnormal rheological changes of leukocytes in mesentery capillary in rats, and the changes can be ameliorated by ulinastatin.

To study the changes in bulbar conjunctiva microcirculation (BCM) and the therapeutic effect of Pentoxifylline on BCM disturbance after high-voltage electrical burn (HEB) in rabbits.Forty-five rabbits were divided into control group (C), electrical burn group (EB), and Pentoxifylline treatment group (PT) according to random number table, with 15 rabbits in each group. Model of HEB was reproduced in rabbits from EB and PT groups with voltage regulator and experimental transformer. Rabbits in C group were sham injured with the same devices without electrification. Changes in BCM were observed with microcirculation microscope at 15 minutes before HEB and 5 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 8 hour(s) post HEB (PHM or PHH), including: (1) morphology of microvessels, such as the discernible, diameters of arterioles, venules, and capillaries, the unevenness in caliber, and ischemic area; (2) dynamic changes in microvascular blood flow, such as blood flow speed in arterioles, venules, and capillaries, erythrocyte aggregation, and microthrombi formation; (3) condition of tissues surrounding microvessel, such as bleeding and exudation. Measurement data were processed with t test; enumeration data were processed with Fisher's exact test.(1) Morphology of microvessel: discernible of microvessels in EB and PT groups was decreased, but that of PT group was better than that of EB group. At PHM 5, diameter of arterioles, venules and capillaries was respectively (7.3+/-2.5), (12.3+/-2.4), (3.5+/-0.7) microm in EB group, all narrower than those of the control group [(14.6+/-3.1), (27.2+/-3.5), (9.0+/-1.4) microm, with t value respectively 5.23, 13.66, 14.04, P values all below 0.05]. Diameters of the microvessels in PT group [(10.2+/-3.8), (21.5+/-3.1), (7.1+/-1.2) microm] were larger than those in EB group (with t value respectively 2.21, 8.99, 10.18, P values all below 0.05). Diameters of arterioles, venules and capillaries in EB and PT groups recovered to the before HEB size at PHH 1. From PHH 2 to 8, arterioles and capillaries decreased gradually in caliber, venules dilated gradually in EB and PT groups, but the changes in PT group were not obvious. Thickness of microvessel was observed uneven in EB group at PHM 5, which lasted until PHH 8. Ischemia of the tissue was observed in EB group at PHM 5, which improved at PHH 2. Situation in PT group was better. (2) Dynamic changes in microvascular blood flow: at PHM 5, blood flow speed in arterioles, venules and capillaries was respectively (202+/-53), (198+/-44), (46+/-12) microm/s in EB group, all slower than those of the control group [(544+/-37), (359+/-32), (220+/-19) microm/s, with t value respectively 20.47, 11.51, 30.02, P values all below 0.05], and those of PT group [(335+/-42), (260+/-35), (119+/-23) microm/s] were faster than those of EB group (with t value respectively 7.55, 4.26, 14.85, P values all below 0.05). Blood flow speed in EB and PT groups recovered to the before HEB level at PHH 1. From PHH 2 to 8, blood flow speed decreased gradually in EB and PT groups, but that of PT group was faster than that of EB group. Erythrocyte aggregation in venules and capillaries was observed in EB group at PHM 5, which eased up at PHH 1, but aggregated at PHH 2, lasting until PHH 8. Obvious microthrombi were observed in EB group at PHH 2, which increased gradually. These changes were less obvious in PT group. (3) Condition of surrounding tissues of microvessel: in EB group, exudation was observed around microvessels at PHH 1, bleeding at PHH 2, with a worsening tendency. Changes in those in PT group were less obvious.HEB causes disturbance in BCM, but it can be ameliorated by Pentoxifylline.
