Abstract

The study presents a Cluster-Based Cab Recommender System (CBCRS) designed to optimize cab services by suggesting the nearest locations with a higher likelihood of finding passengers. To achieve this, the system employs advanced clustering techniques to cluster historical cab pickup locations, identifying areas with higher passenger possibilities at specific times and days. The research aims to develop an algorithmic framework for CBCRS based on a hybrid clustering technique. The objectives of the study are twofold: first, to identify current clustering techniques used in clustering cab pickup geo-points, and second, to propose a framework for CBCRS based on the most efficient clustering technique. This framework will accept the current location of the cab driver and recommend the next nearest passenger pickup location. Additionally, the study compares and contrasts the proposed system with other clustering techniques using three standard datasets, evaluating them based on intrinsic measures such as the Calinski-Harabasz Index and Silhouette-Score. The paper concludes by evaluating and contrasting the proposed CBCRS framework with different clustering techniques, analyzing the results using statistical parameters. The findings reveal that the proposed CBCRS system generates better recommendations for the cab drivers using CBCRS hybrid clustering technique as compared to K-Means, BIRCH, DBSCAN clustering algorithms. Abstract

In today\^as world designing adaptable course material requires new technical knowledge which involves a need for a uniform protocol that allows organizing resources with emphasis on quality and Learning. This can be achieved by bundling the resources in a known and prescribed fashion called Learning objects. Learning Objects are composed of two aspects namely "Learning" and "Object". The Learning aspect of Learning objects refers to Education. Since Education is a process so the primary aim of learning objects tends to be facilitating acquisition, assessment and conversion of content into Learning objects while fostering the assimilation of these Learning objects into learning modules and instruction. The Object part of Learning objects relates to the Digital Electronic format of the resources i.e. to say that it deals with the physical resource that forms the Learning objects. The objects in LOs are analogous to objects used in object-oriented modeling (OOM). The analogy helps visualize how LOs will be packaged, processed and transported across the digital library as well as utilized in course building. OOM concepts such as encapsulation, classification, polymorphism, inheritance and reuse can be borrowed to describe the operations on LOs in the digital library. Thus, the aim of this paper is threefolds. Firstly, to discuss the background of this research and the concept of Learning Objects. Abstract

Constructivist learning has been an area of interest for researchers for past many years as it focuses on making the learner an active participant in the process of learning rather than merely being a passive recipient of knowledge. Tools like concept maps which are based on constructivist principles have been used very effectively to assist teachers in imparting knowledge. However, there is still a gap when it comes to the learning systems that allow learner to define his learning path. This paper presents one such tool for constructivist learning and assessment. A prototype of the tool was created to teach C programming and was tested with the students who were studying any programming language formally for the first time. Results show that there was a significant difference in level of knowledge acquired by the learners who used the tool as compared to those who were taught the same using classroom method.

21. Cluster-Based Cab Recommender System (CBCRS) for Solo Cab Drivers

Abstract

An efficient cluster-based cab recommender system (CBCRS) provides solo cab drivers with recommendations about the next pickup location having high passenger finding potential at the shortest distance. To recommend the cab drivers with the next passenger location, it becomes imperative to cluster the global positioning system (GPS) coordinates of various pick-up locations of the geographic region as that of the cab. Clustering is the unsupervised data science that groups similar objects into a cluster. Therefore, the objectives of the research paper are fourfold: Firstly, the research paper identifies various clustering techniques to cluster GPS coordinates. Secondly, to design and develop an efficient algorithm to cluster GPS coordinates for CBCRS. Thirdly, the research paper evaluates the proposed algorithm using standard datasets over silhouette coefficient and Calinski-Harabasz index. Finally, the paper concludes and analyses the results of the proposed algorithm to find out the most optimal clustering technique for clustering GPS coordinates assisting cab recommender system.

Abstract

Web-based learning has become an important way to enhance learning and teaching, offering many learning opportunities. A limitation of current Web-based learning is the restricted ability of students to personalize and annotate the learning materials. Providing personalized tools and analyzing some types of learning behavior, such as students’ annotation, has attracted attention as a means to enhance Web-based learning. There has been a sharp increase in the volume and quality of electronic publishing on the web in the past few years. Many research journals are going on-line. The advantages of pelectronic publishing are obvious and enormous: instantaneous access to archives, paperless media and fast document search to name a few. However, annotation of documents in electronic form has been surprisingly underdeveloped. Existing word processing software offers some tools for electronic document annotation. But as of today, these annotation features are so modest and limited, that they lose out to the convenient common practice of working with paper versions of documents [1]. The results of a surveys conducted came as no surprise: the absolute majority of researchers and students prefer to print out an electronic paper before reading and annotating it. Our claim is that electronic annotations can not only be as convenient as their paper counterparts, but they are superior in terms of the additional advanced capabilities they can offer. This claim makes the basis of our Annotation Technology (AT). AT is a set of principles that form a foundation for development of advanced and successful electronic annotation systems.

Abstract

Electronic banking is an activity that is not new to the banks or its customers in India. Banks have been providing their services to customers electronically for years through software programs. These software programs allowed users personal computer to dial up the bank directly. In the past, however, banks have been very reluctant to provide their customers with banking via the Internet due to security concerns. Today, the scenario in India has changed. The banks now seem to be jumping the bandwagon of Internet banking. Why is there a sudden increase of bank's interests in the Internet? The paper looks at these issues and therefore, has a fourfold objective. Firstly, the paper studies the evolution of modern day banks and the current state of banking in India. Secondly, it looks at the role of Information technology in this technology change. Thirdly, the paper compares the adoption and implementation of Internet banking in India through the case study of two banks. One of the banks under study is the most popular and emerging private bank (i.e. HDFC bank) that has been a front-runner in the adoption of Internet Banking and the other is a nationalized bank (i.e. Punjab National Bank), which is the first amongst the nationalized banks to have begun Internet banking. Fourthly, the paper concludes discussing the problems of Internet Banking thereby pinning hope that Internet Banking shall evolve and within no time shall become the most popular channel of banking in India. Abstract

Concept maps have been considered as effective tools for meaningful learning and knowledge development as well as for evaluation of knowledge gained and skills acquired during the process. These are also helpful in studying the changes taking place in cognitive structures of the learner, specially in the subject domains where content is in structured form. Many researchers have used concept maps as tools for creating constructivist learning environments for teaching different subjects and as tools to assess conceptual knowledge development among the learners. In addition to this, concept maps can also be used for analyzing the effectiveness of a learning system. This paper focuses on all these aspects and is divided into three parts. First part discusses the use of concept maps in designing teaching learning component in a Constructivist Learning Environment(CLE) along with different concept mapping tools to create a concept mapping network. Second part aims at studying and comparing different assessment methods available to measure both conceptual knowledge as well as skills acquired in applying the conceptual knowledge in practical scenarios. Third and the last part identifies and compares different tools available to analyse the results obtained from assessing concept maps.
