The burgeoning growth of a sharing economy model in the form of a rental business has created a keen interest in understanding various underlying factors that go on to impact consumer behavior. This article aims to understand the antecedents of "rental consumption," and also examines the concepts of consumer familiarity and minimalism, perceived reputation, ascription responsibility, and perceived consumer effectiveness with the moderating role of consumer skepticism. We empirically tested our proposed framework and examined the mediating role of consumer minimalism vis‐à‐vis its impact on rental consumption behavior. We analyzed data (N = 365) with structural equation modeling AMOS 25 and Process Macro. The findings presumably would enhance the literature on the "sharing economy" by integrating the VBN theory, consumer minimalism, and rental consumption intention. We conclude with theoretical contributions and forward‐looking research directions that emphasize the shift in consumer behavior with minimalistic value, and its implications for organizations operating in a sharing economy. Purpose: This research aims to examine how consumer minimalism (CM), self-conscious feelings (such as consumer guilt (CG) and consumer pride (CP)) and the inclination to use rental services interact. It also looks at how attitudes toward pro-environmental advertisements affect these relationships as a moderator, recognizing the importance of pro-environmental advertising in influencing consumer behavior. Design/methodology/approach: This study employed a quantitative methodology to investigate the aforementioned associations. Survey questionnaires are used to collect data, which is then analyzed using AMOS 25 and Process Macro to generate meaningful insights. Findings: The findings indicate that the willingness to use rental services is directly associated with CM, while self-conscious emotions (SCEs) play the role of a mediator in this relationship. Research limitations/implications: It is essential to recognize the limitations of this study. There may be other variables at play, but the research focuses on SCEs (CG and CP) and their role as mediators. The findings must be interpreted based on the selected research methodology and sample size. Future research could investigate additional variables and enlarge the sample size to increase generalizability. Practical implications: Targeted marketing can leverage CM, SCEs and willingness to use rental services. Recognizing the moderating effect of attitude toward pro-environmental advertisements can help create more effective campaigns promoting environmental behavior. With various strains of the novel coronavirus emerging during the last few years, there is a need to reinvent and manage the tourism industry by engaging various stakeholders. Industry and policymakers need to observe the shift and curate tourism-related products and offerings accordingly. In light of the increasing demand for innovations and future directions in the post-COVID-19 period, this article conducts a bibliometric analysis for sustainable tourism studies spanning the years 1990–2021. This paper presents an integrative review of tourism, environment and sustainable tourism to reveal geographical, contextual, and methodological directions for future research. The comprehensive analysis includes contributions on topics and methods, country collaborations, and thematic analysis. The findings are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals of sustainable production and consumption (SDG-12), with a particular emphasis on sustainable tourism to promote local culture and create jobs (SDG-12.b) and on sustainable growth (SDG-13). The study's findings can be used to inform future policies and directions; for example, the findings indicate that the hospitality industry is facing challenges that necessitate new regulations to address its socioeconomic and environmental impacts. Measuring service tangibility and intangibility aspects has been an interest to service researchers. While the Likert rating scale has been widely employed for measuring mental intangibility or its dimensions, it is not free from issues such as different anchoring, that is, the same words pointing to different attitudes and understanding for different individuals. The present study proposes the usefulness of a discrete choice experiment (DCE), where respondents are asked the same questions (i.e., items) and are presented with a scale while dichotomizing the possible responses for each scale item. We show that our proposed method is accurate and generalizable across contexts and samples through multiple studies. The DCE method gives managers a better way to measure intangibility or similar service constructs like service quality, which can help them manage their service offerings and make customers happier. With the rising challenges related to social, economic, and climatic factors, the focus toward adoption of sustainable products is rising. Increasing focus on sustainable products, has influenced the consumer shopping behavior toward greener products. The consumers' participation showntoward sustainable products is what defines their behavior toward its purchase. Understanding of sustainable consumption in emerging markets is still unexplored which calls for further research. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the millennials who belong to the working population of India and have awareness regarding sustainable products and its impact on the environment. The results show that there is a direct relationship between environment self-identity (ESI) and the intention to purchase a sustainable product (PI). Psychological ownership (PO) also plays a role of a partial mediator for the relationship between SI and PI. The purpose of this study is to understand the mechanism through which cross-channel integration (i.e., both physical and digital) influences consumer retention. The study uses the stimulus-organism-response model framework, which conceptualizes how cross-channel integration influences consumers' feelings of empowerment and satisfaction that stimulate their retention behavior. The study also explores the impact of a retailer's unreliability on a consumer's phygital experience in retailing. Data were collected through an online questionnaire survey (n = 427) and analyzed using SPSS AMOS 25 and PROCESS Macros. The findings suggest that cross-channel integration helps in consumer retention. Consumers' relationship with the retailer gets strengthened because consumers feel empowered and satisfied with the product/service being rendered. Importantly, this study is possibly among the first to explore how channel integration in retailing can impact the consumers' phygital experience, and in the process, influence their long-term association with retailers.
