Lung cancer screening with a low radiation dose chest CT scan is the standard of care for screening-eligible individuals. The net benefit of screening may be optimized by delivering high-quality care, capable of maximizing the benefit and minimizing the harms of screening. Valid, feasible, and relevant indicators of the quality of lung cancer screening may help programs to evaluate their current practice and to develop quality improvement plans. The purpose of this project was to develop quality indicators related to the processes and outcomes of screening. Potential quality indicators were explored through surveys of multidisciplinary lung cancer screening experts. Those that achieved predefined measures of consensus for each of the validity, feasibility, and relevance domains are proposed as quality indicators. Each of the proposed indicators is described in detail, with guidance on how to define, measure, and improve program performance within the indicator.

In 2014, the American College of Radiology (ACR) created Lung-RADS 1.0. The system was updated to Lung-RADS 1.1 in 2019, and further updates are anticipated as additional data become available. Lung-RADS provides a common lexicon and standardized nodule follow-up management paradigm for use when reporting lung cancer screening (LCS) low-dose CT (LDCT) chest examinations and serves as a quality assurance and outcome monitoring tool. The use of Lung-RADS is intended to improve LCS performance and lead to better patient outcomes. To date, the ACR's Lung Cancer Screening Registry is the only LCS registry approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and requires the use of Lung-RADS categories for reimbursement. Numerous challenges have emerged regarding the use of Lung-RADS in clinical practice, including the timing of return to LCS after planned follow-up diagnostic evaluation; potential substitution of interval diagnostic CT for future LDCT; role of volumetric analysis in assessing nodule size; assessment of nodule growth; assessment of cavitary, subpleural, and category 4X nodules; and variability in reporting of the S modifier. This article highlights the major updates between versions 1.0 and 1.1 of Lung-RADS, describes the system's ongoing challenges, and summarizes current evidence and recommendations.

Background The risks from potential exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and resource reallocation that has occurred to combat the pandemic, have altered the balance of benefits and harms that informed current (pre-COVID-19) guideline recommendations for lung cancer screening and lung nodule evaluation. Consensus statements were developed to guide clinicians managing lung cancer screening programs and patients with lung nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods An expert panel of 24 members, including pulmonologists (n = 17), thoracic radiologists (n = 5), and thoracic surgeons (n = 2), was formed. The panel was provided with an overview of current evidence, summarized by recent guidelines related to lung cancer screening and lung nodule evaluation. The panel was convened by video teleconference to discuss and then vote on statements related to 12 common clinical scenarios. A predefined threshold of 70% of panel members voting agree or strongly agree was used to determine if there was a consensus for each statement. Items that may influence decisions were listed as notes to be considered for each scenario. Results Twelve statements related to baseline and annual lung cancer screening (n = 2), surveillance of a previously detected lung nodule (n = 5), evaluation of intermediate and high-risk lung nodules (n = 4), and management of clinical stage I non–small-cell lung cancer (n = 1) were developed and modified. All 12 statements were confirmed as consensus statements according to the voting results. The consensus statements provide guidance about situations in which it was believed to be appropriate to delay screening, defer surveillance imaging of lung nodules, and minimize nonurgent interventions during the evaluation of lung nodules and stage I non–small-cell lung cancer. Conclusions There was consensus that during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is appropriate to defer enrollment in lung cancer screening and modify the evaluation of lung nodules due to the added risks from potential exposure and the need for resource reallocation. There are multiple local, regional, and patient-related factors that should be considered when applying these statements to individual patient care.

Background: A possible association has been reported between COVID-19 mRNA vaccination and myocarditis. Objective: To describe cardiac MRI findings in patients with myocarditis after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination. Methods: This retrospective study included patients who underwent cardiac MRI between May 14, 2021 and June 14, 2021 for suspected myocarditis within 2 weeks of COVID-19 mRNA vaccination, without known prior COVID-19. Information regarding clinical presentation, hospital course, and postdischarge events, were recorded. A cardiothoracic imaging fellow and cardiothoracic radiologist reviewed cardiac MRI examinations in consensus. Data were summarized descriptively. Results: Of 52 patients who underwent cardiac MRI during the study period, 5 underwent MRI for suspected myocarditis after recent COVID-19 mRNA vaccination without known prior COVID-19. These 5 patients were all males with age ranging from 16 to 19 years (mean, 17.2±1.0 years) who presented within 4 days of the second dose of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. Troponin levels were elevated in all patients (mean peak troponin I, 6.8±4.1 ng/mL). Alternate possible causes of myocarditis were deemed clinically unlikely based on medical history, physical examination, myocarditis viral panel, and toxicology screen. Cardiac MRI findings were consistent with myocarditis in all 5 patients based on Lake Louise criteria, including early gadolinium enhancement (EGE) and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in all patients and corresponding myocardial edema in 4 patients. All 5 patients had a favorable hospital course and were discharged in stable condition with improved or resolved symptoms after mean hospitalization length of 4.8 days. Two patients underwent repeat cardiac MRI that showed persistent, though decreased, LGE. Three patients reported mild intermittent self-resolving chest pain after discharge; 2 patients had no recurrent symptoms after discharge. Conclusion: In this small case series, all patients with myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccination were adolescent males and had a favorable initial clinical course. All patients showed cardiac MRI findings typical of myocarditis of other causes. LGE persisted in 2 patients undergoing repeat MRI. The observations do not establish causality. Clinical impact: Radiologists should be aware of the possible association of COVID-19 mRNA vaccination and myocarditis, and recognize the role of cardiac MRI in assessment of suspected myocarditis after COVID-19 vaccination.

Purpose To characterize chest radiograph and CT imaging appearance in patients with breakthrough COVID-19 (defined as an illness occurring in patients that previously received a COVID-19 vaccination) in a hospital setting. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, all patients admitted to the hospital between August 26 and September 8, 2021 with a positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction-confirmed infection who were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 were evaluated. Clinical, laboratory data, and outcomes were collected and assessed. All patients had chest imaging performed (either radiography, CT, or a combination of both). Chest radiographs and CTs were assessed and scored on admission and on follow up to determine the extent and type of pulmonary involvement. Descriptive statistics were used. Results Charts of 60 hospitalized patients that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 were reviewed for a prior history of COVID-19 vaccination. Eight (13.3%) such patients were identified and included for analysis (mean age, 54 years; range 34–81 years; four women). Patients received either two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech (n = 6), two doses of Moderna (n = 1), or one dose of Johnson and Johnson (n = 1). Five (63%) patients were immunosuppressed at the time of presentation, and six (75%) reported respiratory symptoms. Most of the patients had normal radiographs (4 of 7; 57%). The most common chest CT findings were ground glass opacities (three of five), with mild to moderate severity scores (average, 51; range 8–88). Two patients required intensive care unit admission. However, no patients died and all were either discharged or were on room air without residual respiratory symptoms by the end of the study period. Conclusion In hospitalized patients with COVID-19 breakthrough illness, normal to mild or moderately positive imaging findings were observed. ©RSNA, 2021

Coronary venous anatomy can be divided into the greater cardiac venous system and the lesser cardiac venous system. With protocol optimization, including appropriate contrast bolus timing, coronary veins can be depicted with excellent detail on CT. Knowledge of variant coronary venous anatomy can sometimes play a role in pre-procedural planning. Analysis of the coronary venous anatomy on CT can detect coronary venous anomalies that cause right to left shunts with risk of stroke, left to right shunts, and arrhythmias.

Purpose A few case reports of intracavitary coronary arteries (ICCA) have been reported and only a single case series on the coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) prevalence rate of ICCA of the right coronary artery (RCA). We describe several cases of ICCA that were noted incidentally and also determine the overall prevalence rate of anomalous ICCA. Materials and methods A retrospective analysis of ICCA was performed consisting of consecutive CCTA cases as well as a group of ICCA from teaching files. To establish a prevalence rate, we reviewed 464 consecutive CCTA referred to our center for transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The presence of ICCA and several imaging features were evaluated. Results Our cohort comprises a total of 12 patients with ICCA, with 1 patient containing 2 anomalous ICCA. 83.3% of affected patients were adult males, with an average age of 69.8 years. The RCA was the most commonly affected vessel (53.8%). The mean length of the intracavitary segment was 33.4 mm for the RCA and 27 mm for the LAD. No cases involved the left circumflex coronary artery. Six of the cases were identified routinely as part of clinical practice and therefore not included in the prevalence analysis. On review of our transcatheter aortic valve replacement database, there was a 1.3% prevalence rate of ICCA. RCA had a prevalence of 0.4%, whereas LAD had a prevalence of 0.9%. Conclusions Although rare, our study suggests that ICCA may be more common than previously described. Its presence is important to communicate to clinicians prior to invasive cardiac procedures to prevent potentially catastrophic outcomes.

Purpose To compare the Vancouver risk calculator (VRC) with American College of Radiology (ACR) Lung Imaging Reporting and Data System (Lung-RADS) in predicting the risk of malignancy in the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST). Materials and Methods A total of 2813 patients with 4408 nodules (4078 solid, 330 subsolid) were available from the NLST for evaluation. Nodules were scored by using VRC with nine parameters (output was the percentage likelihood of malignancy; VRC threshold for malignancy likelihood set as greater than 5%) and Lung-RADS (output was category 2-4B; malignancy defined as category 4A or 4B; malignancy likelihood greater than 5%). Lung-RADS and VRC were compared for sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for malignancy on a per-nodule and per-patient basis. Results Of 4408 total nodules, 100 of 4078 (2.5%) solid nodules were malignant and 10 of 330 (3%) subsolid nodules were malignant. On an overall per-nodule basis, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for VRC and Lung-RADS were 93%, 90%, and 90% for VRC and 87%, 83%, and 83% for Lung-RADS, respectively (P = .077, P < .001, and P < .001, respectively). On a per-patient basis, the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for VRC and Lung-RADS were 93%, 85%, and 85% for VRC and 87%, 76%, and 76% for Lung-RADS, respectively (P = .077, P < .001, and P < .001, respectively). Conclusion The Vancouver risk calculator had superior overall accuracy than the Lung Imaging Reporting and Data System in predicting malignancy in the National Lung Screening Trial for total nodules, as well as on a per-patient basis. © RSNA, 2019 See also the editorial by Black in this issue.

Ischemic heart disease is a leading cause of death worldwide and comprises a large proportion of annual health care expenditure. Management of ischemic heart disease is now best guided by the physiologic significance of coronary artery stenosis. Invasive coronary angiography is the standard for diagnosing coronary artery stenosis. However, it is expensive and has risks including vascular access site complications and contrast material-induced nephropathy. Invasive coronary angiography requires fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurement to determine the physiologic significance of a coronary artery stenosis. Multiple noninvasive cardiac imaging modalities can also anatomically delineate or functionally assess for significant coronary artery stenosis, as well as detect the presence of myocardial infarction (MI). While coronary CT angiography can help assess the degree of anatomic stenosis, its inability to assess the physiologic significance of lesions limits its specificity. Physiologic significance of coronary artery stenosis can be determined by cardiac MR vasodilator or dobutamine stress imaging, CT stress perfusion imaging, FFR CT, PET myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), SPECT MPI, and stress echocardiography. Clinically unrecognized MI, another clear indicator of physiologically significant coronary artery disease, is relatively common and is best evaluated with cardiac MRI. The authors illustrate the spectrum of imaging findings of ischemic heart disease (coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia, and MI); highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the various noninvasive imaging methods used to assess ischemic heart disease, as illustrated by recent clinical trials; and summarize current indications and contraindications for noninvasive imaging techniques for detection of ischemic heart disease. Objective This survey was performed to determine the extent of utilization of Coronary Artery Disease Reporting and Data System (CAD-RADS) since its introduction in 2016 among members of cardiovascular imaging societies. Methods A survey regarding use of CAD-RADS was distributed to members of North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging and Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. Results A total of 246 surveys were completed, and results show that, although most respondents are familiar with CAD-RADS (95%), less than half (45%) report using CAD-RADS for all coronary CTA. Rates of CAD-RADS utilization were similar among physicians who work in a variety of settings. Years of clinical experience did not affect the rates of CAD-RADS utilization; however, a higher weekly volume of cardiac computed tomography was associated with higher rates of CAD-RADS utilization. Conclusions Four years after the introduction of CAD-RADS, the reporting system is used by less than half of surveyed members of North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging and Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography regardless of practice model and range of practice experience with cardiac computed tomography.

This review article provides an overview regarding the role of computed tomography (CT) in the evaluation of acute chest pain (ACP) in the emergency department (ED), focusing on characteristic CT findings.

This study investigated the potential role of paracardiac fat stranding (FS) interspersed with multiple fluid collections (FC) as a clue to differentiate between pleural tuberculosis (pleural TB) and malignant pleural effusion (MPE). The authors retrospectively analyzed chest computed tomography (CT) findings of 428 patients, 351 with pleural TB and 77 with MPE, focusing on the paracardiac fat, and level of pleural adenosine deaminase (ADA) and blood C-reactive protein (CRP). Two radiologists independently evaluated the chest CT findings regarding the paracardiac fat pad ipsilateral to the effusion, including FS, FC, phlegmonous appearance (a combination of the FS and multiple FC), and the presence of lymph node enlargement (>1 cm in short axis diameter). There were significant differences between patients with pleural TB and those with MPE with respect to the prevalence of phlegmonous appearance in the ipsilateral paracardiac fat (47.6% and 10.4%, p < 0.001, OR = 7.8; 95% CI 3.7–16.8) and paracardiac lymph node enlargement (1.4% and 19.5%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.06; 95% CI 0.02–0.2) on CT. In contrast, there was no difference in the prevalence of isolated FS or multiple FC within the ipsilateral paracardiac fat between the two groups. Median pleural ADA and serum CRP level were higher in patients with pleural TB accompanied by phlegmonous appearance in paracardiac fat compared to those without that appearance (ADA: median 104 IU/L versus 90 IU/L, p < 0.001; CRP: 6.5 mg/dL versus 4.2 mg/dL, p < 0.001). In conclusion, phlegmonous appearance in the ipsilateral paracardiac fat without paracardiac lymph node enlargement on chest CT favors a diagnosis of pleural TB over MPE.

BACKGROUND: Improved imaging techniques have increased the incidence of subsegmental pulmonary embolism (ssPE). Indirect evidence is suggesting that ssPE may represent a more benign presentation of venous thromboembolism not necessarily requiring anticoagulant treatment. However, correctly diagnosing ssPE is challenging with reported low interobserver agreement, partly due to the lack of widely accepted diagnostic criteria. OBJECTIVES: We sought to derive uniform diagnostic criteria for ssPE, guided by expert consensus. METHODS: Based on an extensive literature review and expert opinion of a Delphi steering committee, two surveys including statements regarding diagnostic criteria and management options for ssPE were established. These surveys were conducted electronically among two panels, respectively: expert thoracic radiologists and clinical venous thromboembolism specialists. The Delphi method was used to achieve consensus after multiple survey rounds. Consensus was defined as a level of agreement >70%. RESULTS: Twenty-nine of 40 invited radiologists (73%) and 40 of 51 clinicians (78%) participated. Following two survey rounds by the expert radiologists, consensus was achieved on 15 of 16 statements, including on the established diagnostic criteria for ssPE (96% agreement): a contrast defect in a subsegmental artery, that is, the first arterial branch division of any segmental artery independent of artery diameter, visible in at least two subsequent axial slices, using a computed tomography scanner with a desired maximum collimator width of ≤1 mm. These criteria were approved by 83% of the clinical venous thromboembolism (VTE) specialists. The clinical expert panel favored anticoagulant treatment in case of prior VTE, antiphospholipid syndrome, pregnancy, cancer, and proximal deep vein thrombosis. A linear valve-like structure at the pulmonary artery terminus is identified on CT in some patients with patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and can potentially be mistaken for endarteritis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the differences in CT features between adult patients with PDA and a linear structure and those without. We retrospectively evaluated ECG-gated cardiac CT of 38 patients with PDA dividing them into two groups [patients with linear symmetrical valve-like structure (group1, n = 16), and those without (group 2, n = 22)]. We analyzed CT findings of the PDA including length, minimal and maximal diameter, presence of calcification, and PDA type, comparing the two subgroups. The authors also investigated the prevalence of endarteritis. There was no difference in CT findings between the two groups in the prevalence of calcification and length, and minimal and maximal diameter of PDA. Notably the linear valve-like structure was only identified in type 1 PDA (cone-shaped PDA) (p = 0.04), while there were variable types of PDA in group 2. There was only one case of endarteritis as a complication of PDA in group 1. In contrast to a linear valve-like structure, asymmetrical nodular thickening was noted in the patient with endarteritis on CT overlying the pre-existing linear valve-like structure at the pulmonary end of PDA. A linear valve-like structure is frequently identified at the pulmonary end in type 1 PDA. This CT finding should not be mistaken for endarteritis in the absence of other clinical evidence.

Background Atypical manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are being encountered as the pandemic unfolds, leading to non–chest CT scans that may uncover unsuspected pulmonary disease. Purpose To investigate patients with primary nonrespiratory symptoms who underwent CT of the abdomen or pelvis or CT of the cervical spine or neck with unsuspected findings highly suspicious for pulmonary COVID-19. Materials and Methods This retrospective study from March 10, 2020, to April 6, 2020, involved three institutions, two in a region considered a hot spot (area of high prevalence) for COVID-19. Patients without known COVID-19 were included who presented to the emergency department (ED) with primary nonrespiratory (gastrointestinal or neurologic) symptoms, had lung parenchymal findings suspicious for COVID-19 at non–chest CT but not concurrent chest CT, and underwent COVID-19 testing in the ED. Group 1 patients had reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) results obtained before CT scan reading (COVID-19 suspected on presentation); group 2 had RT-PCR results obtained after CT scans were read (COVID-19 not suspected). Presentation and imaging findings were compared, and outcomes were evaluated. Descriptive statistics and Fisher exact tests were used for analysis. Results Group 1 comprised 62 patients (31 men, 31 women; mean age, 67 years ±17 [standard deviation]), and group 2 comprised 57 patients (28 men, 29 women; mean age, 63 years ± 16). Cough and fever were more common in group 1 (37 of 62 [60%] and 29 of 62 [47%], respectively) than in group 2 (nine of 57 [16%] and 12 of 57 [21%], respectively), with no significant difference in the remaining symptoms. There were 101 CT scans of the abdomen or pelvis and 18 CT scans of the cervical spine or neck. In group 1, non–chest CT findings provided the initial evidence of COVID-19–related pneumonia in 32 of 62 (52%) patients. In group 2, the evidence was found in 44 of 57 (77%) patients. Overall, the most common CT findings were ground-glass opacity (114 of 119, 96%) and consolidation (47 of 119, 40%). Major interventions (vasopressor medication or intubation) were required for 29 of 119 (24%) patients, and 27 of 119 (23%) died. Patients who underwent CT of the cervical spine or neck had worse outcomes than those who underwent abdominal or pelvic CT (P = .01). Conclusion In a substantial percentage of patients with primary nonrespiratory symptoms who underwent non–chest CT, CT provided evidence of coronavirus disease 2019–related pneumonia. © RSNA, 2020

A significant reduction in lung cancer specific mortality rate was demonstrated by the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) in participants who had annual low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening. In addition to early detection of lung cancer, lung cancer screening (LCS) provides an opportunity to detect cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease), and extrapulmonary neoplasms, such as thyroid, breast, kidney, liver, esophageal, pancreatic and mediastinal tumors. Considering the fact that 22.3% of the certified deaths in the computed tomography (CT) arm of the NLST trial were due to extrapulmonary malignancies, compared to 22.9% of deaths from lung cancer, it is possible that early diagnosis and treatment of clinically significant incidental findings may further decrease morbidity and mortality in screening participants. In this article we review prevalence, clinical relevance and management of incidentally detected extrapulmonary malignancies.

Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Because of its remarkable technological advances, a coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) is now a crucial imaging tool in the evaluation of patients with nonspecific acute and stable chest pain. This review article provides an overview of atherosclerotic CAD, the pros and cons of CTAs as compared to competing imaging modalities, and the potential remedies to overcome drawbacks of CTAs.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of chest CT findings to diagnose Grave's disease in pulmonary hypertension. Methods We retrospectively evaluated chest CT and the medical records of 13 patients with Grave's disease with (n = 6) or without pulmonary hypertension (n = 7) and in 17 control patients. Results Presence of iso-attenuation of diffusely enlarged thyroid glands compared with adjacent neck muscle on non-enhanced CT as a diagnostic clue of Grave's disease, and assessment of pulmonary hypertension on CT has high diagnostic accuracy. Information technology is a tool, and its effects on global citizenship education (GCED) depend on who uses the technology, how it is employed, and for what purpose. In theory, technology use could provide significant benefits toward achievement of GCED goals. Globalization has demanded an educational response — to prepare the young for productive engagement with the emerging global community. Technology could play a positive role in effective GCED. But globalization has come at a cost; it has produced winners and losers. Among the losers are those economically displaced as manufacturing jobs move elsewhere; they are resentful of foreigner and fearful of an uncertain future. For them, global citizenship is anathema. They are susceptible to manipulation by malign forces eager to exploit any perceived rifts in the post-war world order. For them, technology is a weapon, as easily aimed at the aspirations of GCED as another apparent enemy. Identifying how technology can be employed positively in GCED is important, but not enough. Young people must also understand the conflict between globalization and alt-right nationalist populism, much of it carried out in the cyber-arena of the Internet and social media. New technologies have armed adversaries with tools to manipulate opinion and foment disorder. how technology is employed to undermine global citizenship education, as well as the democracies of the West. This they can witness in the gladiatorial combat between globalization and nationalist populism —between democracy and authoritarianism — in the cyber-arena. This article explores how technology is a double-edged sword – a tool for good and a tool for mischief. It draws from current research and news reporting on methods and effects of online manipulation. The article concludes by describing international efforts to defend against social media assaults on democracy and by identifying the new knowledge and skills citizens must acquire for positive civic engagement in the global cyber-arena. &nbsp

Because Millennials and Generation X tend to desire close relationships with their leaders, expect frequent and open communication, and integrate their personal and professional contacts via social media, it was predicted they would be more likely than Baby Boomers to accept a Facebook friend request from their boss. Although no main effect was found for generational differences, a significant interaction between self-disclosure and generation was found, such that self-disclosure was positively related to acceptance of a friend request from one's boss for Baby Boomers and Generation X, but negatively related for Millennials. Implications and directions for future research are discussed.

The CT finding of "vulnerable plaque" is widely regarded as similar to that of a culprit lesion in an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, this hypothesis may not be accurate, since "vulnerable plaques" may substantially change their morphology when they rupture to cause an ACS.We retrospectively evaluated coronary CT angiography data sets of 25 patients with ACS who had vulnerable (n = 10) or culprit plaques (n = 15). We analyzed CT features including positive remodeling (PR), low attenuation plaque (LAP), the napkin ring sign (NRS), degree of stenosis (normal,50%, 50-99%, 100%), and myocardial hypoperfusion in the left ventricle.There was no difference in the prevalence of PR, NRS, or LAP between vulnerable and culprit plaques. In contrast, a majority (80%, 8/10) of vulnerable plaques were associated with50% luminal stenosis while total occlusion was identified in 47% (7/15) of culprit plaques (p = .037). In all patients with occlusion, myocardial hypoperfusion was demonstrated in the corresponding arterial territory on CT.CT features of vulnerable and culprit plaques differ in cases with thrombotic occlusion reflecting dynamic plaque changes related to the episode of ACS.

Cardiac thrombus formation is a frequent complication of a variety of prevalent diseases. Embolism of cardiac thrombus has the potential to result in significant morbidity and mortality from cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular events. Echocardiography is the most commonly used imaging modality for diagnosing intracardiac thrombus. However, technological advances in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have allowed newer noninvasive modalities to evolve into robust tools for the clinical evaluation of patients suspected of disease. Complimentary use of these imaging techniques is crucial in the diagnosis of cardiac thrombus and initiation of anticoagulation therapy.
