14. Behavior of Model Biomass in Hydrothermal Pretreatment in Continuous-Flow System

Abstract

In this study we focus mainly on the behavior of model biomass in hydrothermal pretreatment which would lead to better understanding of effective biomass raw material. Experiments for hydrothermal pretreatment were proposed to study the behavior of model biomass on continuous ¬flow system in terms of the effect of temperature, flow rate, residence time, and feed stock concentration. The experimental conditions were temperatures between 180 and 275°C, a pressure of 8 MPa, and flow rate of 40¬80 mL/min using a continuous¬flow reactor. Cellulose powder, 20¬.m from Sigma Aldrich, was used as raw material with varying concentration in the range of 0.1¬0.5 wt%. At 0.1 wt%, the cellulose dissolved more effectively than at 0.5 wt%. The plausible reason could be the cellulose at 0.5 wt% was closer to the saturated condition than the cellulose at the 0.1 wt%. Abstract

ZnS nanoparticles with different morphology; spherical, ellipsoidal particles' nanotubes and nanorods, could be successfully synthesized from quaternary W/O microemulsion system. The morphology of the final products could be clearly confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of cosurfactant on size and morphology of the obtained products have been explored in this work. The key controlling parameters such as the molar ratio of water to surfactant (wo) and the reactant concentration, which affect the product characteristics, have also been investigated., QC 20160411

47. Influence of Temperature on SO2Removal Enhanced by Water Vapor Using a Corona‐Discharge Reactor

Abstract

A reactor using d.c. corona discharge of negative polarity was applied to remove sulfur dioxide from an oxygen‐nitrogen mixture in the presence or absence of water vapor for temperatures ranging from room temperature to 350 °C. It was observed that increasing the reactor temperature caused a decrease in the removal efficiency. Mixing water vapor with the process gas resulted in an increase of the removal efficiency. The effect of the presence of water vapor on improving the removal efficiency was significant under low temperature conditions, while it was relatively moderate under high temperature conditions. In addition, the solid deposit formed inside the reactor at two temperatures, room temperature and 200 °C, was analyzed with both a differential scattering calorimeter and an X ray diffractometer. The analysis indicated that SO2was ultimately converted to solid sulfur in both the presence and absence of water vapor in the gas flow.

Abstract

Abstract: Dispersions of zinc chromate (ZnCrO4) were prepared in H2O/AOT (sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl sulfosuccinate))/n-heptane water-in-oil (W/O) microemulsion medium with various water pool sizes and precursor concentration both without and with sonication. The formation of ZnCrO4 in the microemulsion was verified by XRD and FTIR measurements. The absorbance of the dispersions formed in different water pool sizes was studied. Their dimension in the microemulsion medium was determined by the dynamic light scattering method. Enthalpy of formation of ZnCrO4 in W/O microemulsion medium was measured by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). The dimension and morphology of the formed ZnCrO4 colloidal particles examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were strongly dependent on the water pool size, precursor concentration and sonication.
