Abstract Purpose To assess bone mineral density (BMD) in middle-aged individuals in Shanghai, in order to improve awareness of osteopenia and osteoporosis screening. Methods The clinical data of 1107 permanent residents of Shanghai aged 40–60 years were collected using a random cluster sampling method. Osteoporosis questionnaire survey and BMD test were conducted. Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square test were used to compare sex, age and body mass index at different stages of bone mass, and Pearson test was used to conduct correlation analysis. Abstract Objective At present, the core decompression (CD) has become the main surgical procedure for the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH); however, the CD surgery requires high operator experience and repeated fluoroscopy increases the radiation damage to patients, and medical staff. This article compares the clinical efficacy of robot-assisted and freehand CD for ONFH by meta-analysis. Methods Computer searches of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, WanFang, and Chinese BioMedical Literature Database were conducted from the time of database inception to November 15, 2023. The literature on the clinical efficacy of robot-assisted and freehand CD in the treatment of ONFH was collected. Two researchers independently screened the literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and strictly evaluated the quality of the included literature. Outcome measures encompassed operative duration, intraoperative blood loss volume, frequency of intraoperative fluoroscopies, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Harris hip score (HHS), complications, and radiographic progression. Data synthesis was carried out using Review Manager 5.4.1 software. The quality of evidence was evaluated according to Grades of Recommendation Assessment Development and Evaluation (GRADE) standards. Abstract Parkinson’s disease is a chronic neurodegenerative condition accompanied by a variety of motor and non-motor clinical symptoms. Diagnosing Parkinson’s disease presents many challenges, such as excessive reliance on subjective scale scores and a lack of objective indicators in the diagnostic process. Developing efficient and convenient methods to assist doctors in diagnosing Parkinson’s disease is necessary. In this paper, we study the skeleton sequences obtained from gait videos of Parkinsonian patients for early detection of the disease. We designed a Transformer network based on feature tensor fusion to capture the subtle manifestations of Parkinson’s disease. Initially, we fully utilized the distance information between joints, converting it into a multivariate time series classification task. We then built twin towers to discover dependencies within and across sequence channels. Finally, a tensor fusion layer was employed to integrate the features from both towers. In our experiments, our model demonstrated superior performance over the current state-of-the-art algorithm, achieving an 86.8% accuracy in distinguishing Parkinsonian patients from healthy individuals using the PD-Walk dataset.

ObjectiveHyperuricaemia and gout are common metabolic disorders. However, the causal relationships between blood metabolites and serum urate levels, as well as gout, remain unclear. A systematic evaluation of the causal connections between blood metabolites, hyperuricemia, and gout could enhance early screening and prevention of hyperuricemia and gout in clinical settings, providing novel insights and approaches for clinical treatment.MethodsIn this study, we employed a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis utilizing data from a genome-wide association study involving 7,286 participants, encompassing 486 blood metabolites. Serum urate and gout data were sourced from the Chronic Kidney Disease Genetics consortium, including 288,649 participants for serum urate and 9,819 African American and 753,994 European individuals for gout. Initially, LDSC methodology was applied to identify blood metabolites with a genetic relationship to serum urate and gout. Subsequently, inverse-variance weighting was employed as the primary analysis method, with a series of sensitivity and pleiotropy analyses conducted to assess the robustness of the results.ResultsFollowing LDSC, 133 blood metabolites exhibited a potential genetic relationship with serum urate and gout. In the primary Mendelian randomization analysis using inverse-variance weighting, 19 blood metabolites were recognized as potentially influencing serum urate levels and gout. Subsequently, the IVW p-values of potential metabolites were corrected using the false discovery rate method. We find leucine (IVW P FDR = 0.00004), N-acetylornithine (IVW P FDR = 0.0295), N1-methyl-3-pyridone-4-carboxamide (IVW P FDR = 0.0295), and succinyl carnitine (IVW P FDR = 0.00004) were identified as significant risk factors for elevated serum urate levels. Additionally, 1-oleoylglycerol (IVW P FDR = 0.0007) may lead to a substantial increase in the risk of gout. Succinyl carnitine exhibited acceptable weak heterogeneity, and the results for other blood metabolites remained robust after sensitivity, heterogeneity, and pleiotropy testing. We conducted an enrichment analysis on potential blood metabolites, followed by a metabolic pathway analysis revealing four pathways associated with serum urate levels.ConclusionThe identified causal relationships between these metabolites and serum urate and gout offer a novel perspective, providing new mechanistic insights into serum urate levels and gout.

Background: Previous observational studies have demonstrated an association between grip strength and detrimental pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. However, the causality of this relationship remains uncertain. Objective: This study aims to investigate if there is a causal relationship between grip strength and adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes, providing evidence to support active intervention for adverse pregnancy outcomes. Study design: A two-sample Mendelian randomization method was used to select GWAS data from the UK Biobank and the FinnGen Biobank as data sources. The inverse variance weighting method was used as the main analysis method. The reliability of the results was verified through sensitivity analysis, including Cochran's Q test, MR-egger intercept regression analysis, leave-one-out analysis, and funnel plot. Independent queues are also used to verify the reliability of the results. Results: The study demonstrated a significant positive correlation between genetically predicted hand grip strength and offspring birth weight, specifically left-hand grip strength (β = 0.193, 95 % CI: 0.099–0.286, p = 0.0001) and right-hand grip strength (β = 0.310, 95 % CI: 0.235–0.384, p = 3.27E-16). Sensitivity analysis indicated no horizontal multi-effect, and leave-one-out analysis along with the funnel plot showed no abnormalities. The verification queue also yielded similar results. Conclusion: This study revealed a significant association between grip strength-related traits and offspring birth weight, suggesting a potential protective effect. Moreover, a negative predictive trend was observed for other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Modifying grip strength through an active lifestyle and continuous monitoring of pregnant women's grip strength may have implications for improving pregnancy outcomes. However, further research is warranted to investigate these findings more comprehensively.

BackgroundThe association between depression and musculoskeletal diseases has long been a subject of contentious debate. However, the causal relationship between the two remains uncertain. This study employs a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causality between depression and six musculoskeletal diseases.MethodsIn this study, we performed MR analysis to systematically explore the causal relationship between depression and six musculoskeletal disorders. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are linked to depression were employed as instrumental variables. To ensure robust and reliable conclusions, multiple analytical approaches were utilized, including inverse variance weighting(IVW), weighted median, and MR-Egger regression. Additionally, sensitivity analysis methods such as the MR-Egger intercept test, Cochran’s Q test, leave-one-out analysis, and funnel plot were employed.ResultsOur MR analysis revealed a significant association between depression and cervical spondylosis (depression: OR 1.003, 95% CI 1.002–1.005, P = 8.32E-05; major depressive disorder: OR 1.003, 95% CI 1.001–1.005, P = 0.0052). Furthermore, a strong correlation was noted between major depressive disorder (MDD) and knee osteoarthritis (KOA) (OR 1.299, 95% CI 1.154–1.463, P = 1.50E−5). Sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of these findings. Our independent validation study also corroborated these results.ConclusionThe MR analysis conducted in this study provides evidence supporting a genetic link between depression and cervical spondylosis, as well as KOA. Targeted interventions to manage depression in susceptible populations may contribute to lowering the risk of cervical spondylosis and KOA in these cohorts.

Abstract Background Hip joint-preserving treatment options for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) have been a research hotspot in recent years. The combination of Chinese and Western medicine has been used in clinical practice to treat early- and mid-stage ONFH. However, there is still a lack of high-quality evidence to verify the effectiveness and safety of this approach. Objective To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the combination of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with Western medicine in the treatment of early- and mid-stage ONFH. Methods Multiple electronic databases were searched to identify the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the use of TCM in the treatment of ONFH. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, eligible studies were selected, and the quality of the studies was evaluated using the risk of bias assessment tool recommended by the Cochrane system Evaluator manual 5.1.0. The meta-analysis of the included data was performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software and Stata 17.0 software. Results A total of 47 RCTs involving 3266 subjects were included in the meta-analysis. The genus Conidiobolus s.s. (Conidiobolaceae, Entomophthorales) has been delimited to accommodate members that produce microspores. Herein, morphological studies, combined with phylogenetic analysis based on the nuclear large subunit of rDNA (nucLSU), the mitochondrial small subunit of rDNA (mtSSU), and the elongation-factor-like gene (EFL) revealed two Conidiobolus s.s. species isolated from plant debris in China. Conidiobolus longiconidiophorus sp. nov. is mainly characterised by its long primary conidiophores, while Conidiobolus polysporus sp. nov. is diagnosed by 2–3 primary conidia arising from branched primary conidiophores. Phylogenetically, the former is grouped into a separate clade, while the latter is closely related to C. incongruus, but is morphologically distinguished by its larger primary conidia and branched conidiophores.

BackgroundMinimally invasive treatment options for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) have been a prominent area of research in recent years. Arthroscopic-assisted treatments have been applied in the clinical management of ONFH; however, high-quality evidence verifying their effectiveness and safety is still lacking.ObjectiveTo systematically assess the clinical efficacy and safety of arthroscopic-assisted core decompression (AACD) in treating ONFH.MethodsA comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, WanFang, and the Chinese BioMedical Literature Database, from inception to June 25, 2024. We identified randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled studies on AACD for the treatment of ONFH based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 and Stata 17.0 software. The analyzed outcomes included operative time, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, postoperative femoral head collapse rate, Harris hip score, and postoperative complication rate. The Grades of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system was used to assess the quality of evidence for the outcome indicators.ResultsA total of fourteen studies were included in this meta-analysis, comprising 1,063 patients-541 in the core decompression (CD) group and 522 in the AACD group. The meta-analysis revealed no significant differences between the two groups in terms of intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, 12-month postoperative Harris hip score, or overall postoperative complication rate (P > 0.05). However, the AACD group had a longer operative time (MD = 31.19, 95% Cl: 5.32 to 57.07, P = 0.02) and a lower overall postoperative femoral head collapse rate (RR = 0.49, 95% Cl: 0.27 to 0.89, P = 0.02) compared with the CD group. Additionally, the AACD group showed significant improvements in Harris hip scores at 3 months (MD = 6.39, 95% Cl: 5.44 to 7.33, P < 0.00001), 6 months (MD = 7.56, 95% Cl: 6.63 to 8.49, P < 0.00001), ≥ 24 months (MD = 7.00, 95% Cl: 4.80 to 9.21, P < 0.00001), and at the last follow-up (MD = 6.89, 95% Cl: 5.30 to 8.48, P < 0.00001) compared to the CD group. The GRADE evidence assessment indicated that the overall postoperative complication rate was supported by moderate-quality evidence, while the evidence for operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative femoral head collapse rate, and Harris hip score was of low quality. The evidence for length of hospital stay was deemed very low quality.ConclusionThis meta-analysis suggests that AACD is an effective and safe treatment for patients with ONFH. However, due to the limited quantity and quality of the included studies, these results should be interpreted with caution. Further high-quality studies are recommended to confirm these findings.

BackgroundThe relationship between visceral adipose tissue and osteoarthritis is not clear. The purpose of our study was to explore the relationship between visceral adipose tissue and osteoarthritis.MethodsWe used a two-sample Mendelian randomization method to select single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly associated with visceral adipose tissue as instrumental variables to explore the relationship between visceral adipose tissue and all osteoarthritis, hand osteoarthritis, hip osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, and spine osteoarthritis. The reliability of the results was tested using sensitivity analysis.ResultsOur findings indicated that visceral adipose tissue was associated with all osteoarthritis, hip osteoarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, and spine osteoarthritis (all osteoarthritis: OR = 1.399, 95% CI: 1.335–1.467, p = 7.95e-44; hip osteoarthritis: OR = 1.399, 95% CI: 1.284–1.524, p = 1.41e-14; knee osteoarthritis: OR = 1.794, 95% CI: 1.662–1.937, p = 1.33e-50; and spine osteoarthritis: OR = 1.445, 95% CI: 1.314–1.589, p = 2.89e-14). Sensitivity analysis demonstrated the reliability of these results.ConclusionOur study suggests that genetically predicted visceral adipose tissue is associated with osteoarthritis. Reducing the accumulation of visceral adipose tissue could potentially have an impact on the incidence of osteoarthritis.

Osteoporosis stands out as a prevalent metabolic disorder, bearing significant repercussions on human well-being and overall quality of life. It remains an urgent concern within the global public health framework due to its widespread occurrence. Osteoporosis arises from an abnormal metabolism in osteoblasts and osteoclasts, resulting in a disruption of the delicate equilibrium between bone formation and bone resorption. Within this context, deer antler peptides emerge as natural active compounds, wielding a pivotal role in governing the differentiation, proliferation, and mineralization of osteoblasts, as well as influencing the activity of osteoclasts. This article aims to consolidate our comprehension of the mechanisms underpinning the dynamic balance between bone formation and resorption, meticulously orchestrated by osteoblasts and osteoclasts in osteoporosis. Furthermore, it offers a comprehensive overview of how deer antler peptides, through their modulation of relevant signaling pathways, contribute to the enhancement of bone homeostasis. These insights deepen our understanding of the pathological processes through which deer antler peptides ameliorate bone homeostasis, while also presenting novel strategies for osteoporosis management.

Objective: To evaluate the risk factors of osteoporosis and establish a risk prediction model based on routine clinical information and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes. Methods: Adults aged 30–82 who lived in 12 grass-roots communities or rural towns in Shanghai, Jilin Province, and Jiangsu Province from December 2019 to January 2022 through a multi-stage sampling method were included in this study. The risk factors and risk prediction of osteoporosis in women and men were explored and established by univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression model. ROC curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test were used to evaluate the prediction model. Results: A total of 3000 subjects including 2243 females (75 %) and 757 males (25 %) were included in this study. The logistic prediction model of osteoporosis in women was Logit (P) = −2.946 + 0.960 (age ≥50 years old) + 0.633 (BMI ≥24 kg/m2) - 0.545 (daily exposure to sunlight >30 min) + 0.519 (no intake of dairy products) + 0.827 (coronary heart disease) + 0.383 (lumbar disc herniation) + 0.654 (no intake of calcium tablets and vitamin D) - 0.509 (insomnia) + 0.580 (flushed face and congested eyes) + 1.194 (thready and rapid pulse) + 1.309 (sunken and slow pulse). The logistic prediction model of osteoporosis in men was Logit (P) = −1.152–0.644 (daily exposure to sunlight >30 min) + 0.975 (no intake of calcium tablets and vitamin D) - 0.488 (insomnia). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of female and male osteoporosis prediction models was 0.743 and 0.679, respectively. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test was >0.5. Conclusions: There are some significant differences in risk factors between female and male patients with osteoporosis. The risk of osteoporosis are found to be associated with TCM syndromes, and osteoporosis risk prediction models based on routine clinical information and TCM syndrome is effective.

ObjectiveObservational studies have suggested an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis. However, these studies are prone to confounding factors and reverse causality. To address these limitations, we conducted a Mendelian randomization study to assess the causal relationship between AS and CVD.MethodsThe study population comprises 9,069 individuals with ankylosing spondylitis and 509,093 individuals with either of six common cardiovascular diseases and a related indicator. Causal analysis using summary effect estimates and inverse variance weighting were employed as the main methods.ResultsThe CAUSE analysis showed no evidence of a causal relationship between AS and CVD. The odds ratios for total CVD, heart failure, myocardial infarction, valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, and venous thromboembolism, Arterial stiffness index, were as follows: OR, 1.01; 95% confidence interval, 0.96–1.05; P = 0.91; OR, 1.03; 95% CI, 0.99–1.08; P = 0.50; OR, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.86–1.03; P = 0.53; OR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.94–1.04; P = 0.99; OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.91–1.04; P = 0.94; OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.91–1.04; P = 0.99; β, −0.0019; 95% CI, 0.97–1.01; P = 0.99. The IVW and weighted median methods also yielded consistent results, and no heterogeneity or pleiotropy was found. Likewise, a reverse Mendelian randomization analysis did not uncover a heritable causal relationship between AS and CVD.ConclusionThis Mendelian randomization study does not support a causal relationship between AS and CVD. Further research is needed to confirm this association.

BackgroundYoga is a non-pharmacological conservative therapeutic modality that can be employed for the management of chronic low back pain (CLBP). In this overview, we have summarized and evaluated data from current systematic reviews (SRs) on the use of yoga for CLBP.MethodsWe comprehensively searched SRs on the use of yoga for CLBP in nine electronic databases from inception to September 2023. The methodological quality was evaluated using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Review Scale-2 (AMSTAR-2). The reporting quality of the included SRs was evaluated using the Preferred Reporting Item for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis-2020 (PRISMA-2020), and the quality of data was graded using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). Two independent researchers performed the screening, data extraction, and quality assessment process of SRs.ResultsA total of 13 SRs were included. The results of the AMSTAR-2 indicated that the methodological quality of the included studies was relatively low. The PRISMA-2020 checklist evaluation results indicated that methodological limitations in reporting, especially regarding data processing and presentation, were the main weaknesses. The GRADE assessment indicated that 30 outcomes were rated moderate, 42 were rated low level, and 20 were rated very low level. Downgrading factors were mainly due to the limitations of the included studies.ConclusionYoga appears to be an effective and safe non-pharmacological therapeutic modality for the Management of CLBP. Currently, it may exhibit better efficacy in improving pain and functional disability associated with CLBP. However, the methodological quality and quality of evidence for SRs/MAs in the included studies were generally low, and these results should be interpreted cautiously.

This study aims to accurately describe the soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) across the full range from saturation to oven dryness. We propose a smooth, continuous three-segmented SWCC model that divides the saturation range into wet, air-dried, and oven-dried segments. The two model junction points are anchored at matric suctions of 104.5 and 106.5 cm, respectively. The soil water content at 104.5 cm represents the maximum soil hygroscopy, reflecting the maximum water content in air-dried soil, while the soil water content at 106.5 cm characterizes the minimum soil water content. This imbues the junction points with specific physical significance regarding soil moisture content and matric potential. The model was tested with the water retention data of nine soils across the SWCC and compared with three existing SWCC models based on the adjusted coefficient of determination (adjR2) and root mean square error (RMSE). The results indicated that the proposed model accurately described the entire SWCC. The three-segmented model yielded an adjR2 of >0.99 and an RMSE of ≤0.022 cm3 cm−3, outperforming other models. We also introduce a new method for predicting soil water data in air-dried and oven-dried segments. The results showed that the predicted soil water content values were accurate.

Abstract As essential high-end equipment for nuclear emergency monitoring, the portable HPGe γ spectrometer currently lacks supporting in-situ measurement methods, limiting its role and value in emergency missions. For this practical problem, this paper studies the measurement of ground surface radioactivity by portable HPGe γ spectrometer in nuclear emergency monitoring in view of the particularity of nuclear emergency source items. Firstly, the detection efficiency of point sources at different horizontal distances when the spectrometer is installed at the height of 1 m from the center of the detector to the ground is calculated. Secondly, the concept of effective contribution distance is defined and analyzed. Thirdly, the point source detection efficiency is obtained using the numerical integration method of calculation. Integrate to calculate the detection efficiency of the surface source, and then calculate the radioactive surface activity of the surface. Finally, the effectiveness of the method is verified through experiments.

Background: The number of patients with osteoporosis ranks first in the world in China and as a precursor state of osteoporosis, the number and incidence of osteopenia are much higher than that of osteoporosis. This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the incidence and distribution of osteopenia in adults in mainland of China over 10 years to provides reference for the early prevention of osteoporosis and policymaking. Methods: Relevant data were extracted from the databases including CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, and Medline about the surveys on osteoporosis and bone loss from 2010 to 2021 by searching. The random effects model was adopted for Meta-analysis, and the funnel plot was used to test publication bias. Results: Forty-seven literatures were included in this study, covering 27 provinces and 38 regions in the mainland of China, with the study of 135,688 cases, showing that the prevalence of osteopenia in adults in the past decade was 28.3%(95% CI 24-33%), aged 40~60 yr old , reaching the highest level. Due to the increasing popularity of multimedia social networks (MSNs), the ability to mine users' interests in different contexts on such networks is crucial in recommendation systems. It is, however, challenging to mine users' current preferences based on session on MSNs. In this study, we propose a novel recommendation algorithm based on both social situation analytics and collaborative filtering for session-based recommendation. Specifically, the algorithm predicts the rating for target users based on their nearest neighbors and historical behaviors. First, for the purpose of mining users' current intentions, the session-level behavioral sequences of target user are analyzed based on SocialSitu (t). Then, the recommended contents are generated for target users based on their behaviors and perceived session-based intentions and identity. We evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm using real-world social media dataset from Shareteches. Findings demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms two classical algorithms and a state-of-the-art method.

The belowground pest Bradysia odoriphaga (Diptera: Sciaridae) has a sophisticated and sensitive olfactory system to detect semiochemical signals from the surrounding environment. In particular, odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) are crucial in capturing and transporting these semiochemical signals across the sensilla lymph to the corresponding odorant receptors. In this study, we cloned a full-length cDNA sequence of BodoOBP8 from B. odoriphaga. Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis revealed that BodoOBP8 has the highest expression levels in males, with more pronounced expression in the male antennae than in other tissues. In this study, the recombinant protein BodoOBP8 was successfully expressed by a bacterial system to explore its function. Competitive binding assays with 33 host plant volatiles and one putative sex pheromone (n-heptadecane) revealed that purified BodoOBP8 strongly bound to two sulfur compounds (methyl allyl disulfide and diallyl disulfide) and to n-heptadecane; the corresponding dissolution constants (Ki) were 4.04, 6.73, and 4.04 μM, respectively. Molecular docking indicated that Ile96, Ile103, Ala107, and Leu111, located in the hydrophobic cavity of BodoOBP8, are the key residues mediating the interaction of BodoOBP8 with two sulfur compounds (methyl allyl disulfide and diallyl disulfide) and n-heptadecane. These results show that BodoOBP8 plays a role in the recognition of plant volatiles and sex pheromones, suggesting its application as a molecular target for the screening of B. odoriphaga attractants and repellents and facilitating a new mechanism of B. odoriphaga control.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a potentially life-threatening condition. Although computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is the reference standard for diagnosis, its early diagnosis remains a challenge, and the concerns about the radiation exposures further limit the general use of CTPA. The primary aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the overall diagnostic accuracy of transthoracic lung ultrasound (TLS) in the diagnosis of PE.PubMed, Web of science, OvidSP, ProQuest, EBSCO, Cochrane Library and Clinicaltrial.gov were searched systematically. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2 tool. The sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic (HSROC) curves were used to examine the TS performance. The Bayes analysis was used to calculate the post-test probability of PE. Publication bias was assessed with Deeks funnel plot.The results indicated that the sensitivity, specificity, PLR and NLR were 0.85 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.78 to 0.90), and 0.83 (95% CI, 0.73 to 0.90). And the DOR and HSROC were 28.82 (95% CI, 17.60 to 47.21), 0.91(95% CI, 0.88, 0.93).The present meta-analysis suggested that transthoracic lung ultrasonography is helpful in diagnosing pulmonary embolism. Although the application of transthoracic lung ultrasound may change some patients' diagnostic processes, it is inappropriate to generally use transthoracic ultrasonography in diagnosing pulmonary embolism currently.
