Type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases the risk of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This study investigates the association between glucose control of COVID-19 patients with T2D in first 7 days after hospital admission and prognosis. A total of 252 infected inpatients with T2D in China were included. Well-controlled blood glucose was defined as stable fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels in the range of 3.9–7.8 mmol/L during first 7 days using indicators of average (FBGA), maximum (FBGM) or first-time (FBG1) FBG levels. The primary endpoint was admission to intensive care unit or death. Hazard ratio (HR) of poorly controlled glucose level group compared with well-controlled group were 4.96 (P = 0.021) for FBGM and 5.55 (P = 0.014) for FBGA. Well-controlled blood glucose levels in first 7 days could improve the prognosis of COVID-19 inpatients with diabetes.

Aim To study the feasibility and effectiveness of a m-Health app in improving the management of rheumatoid arthritis. Design Randomized controlled trial. Methods Sixty rheumatoid arthritis participants will be recruited for a 6-month feasibility study. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be randomly allocated to receive standard care or standard care plus the m-Health intervention. The primary outcome is the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial. In addition, we will investigate patient satisfaction in using the "Rheumatism Center" app in the intervention group. The secondary outcomes include the scores for the simplified disease activity index, clinical disease activity index, disease activity score 28, health assessment questionnaire and 6-item self-efficacy scale for chronic diseases. The assessments will be performed at baseline and at 4 weeks, 3 months and 6 months after the study is initiated. At the end of the study, we will also collect user views of the app through qualitative interviews. Results This study is ongoing. The findings of this study will determine the feasibility and effectiveness of m-Health intervention in the management of rheumatoid arthritis, hoping to enhance the awareness of disease management and quality of life for rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disease that severely impacts quality of life. Currently available medications for the treatment of RA have adverse side effects. Emerging evidence suggests that intradermal acupuncture (IA) is feasible and safe for patients, but its application in RA patients has not been examined. Our study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of IA for the treatment of RA. Methods This study is a randomised, sham-controlled, patient-outcome assessor-statistician blind trial that aims to evaluate the effects of IA in patients with RA. We will recruit 132 patients aged ≥ 18 years with a diagnosis of RA. Patients will be randomly allocated with a 1:1 ratio to IA or sham IA groups. Both groups will receive basic treatment and nursing routines for RA. The experimental group will receive actual IA treatment, whereas the control group will receive sham IA treatment. All patients will receive one course of treatment (i.e., four consecutive treatment sessions with an intervening 1-day interval). Primary outcomes will be traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes before and after a treatment course and Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) scores. Secondary outcomes will be disease activity score 28 (DAS28) and levels of serum C-reactive protein (CRP). Outcome measures will be collected pre- and post-treatment. Discussion This study aims to provide high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of IA for treating RA. In addition, the results will provide references for selection of acupoints for other syndromes in clinical practice. Trial registration Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR2000038028. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the most common type of inflammatory arthritis, can cause bone damage and disability. Triptolide, a prominent treatment for RA, has satisfactory anti-inflammatory effects. However, the mechanism of action of triptolide in RA remains unknown.This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying triptolide-mediated improvements in RA and identify the miRNA pathway responsible for these effects.We identified various dysregulated miRNAs associated with RA by mining previously described microarray data and verified and screened these candidates using RT-qPCR. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was then applied to identify pathological changes in the affected joints, and cell counting kit-8 analysis and flow cytometry were employed to examine cell proliferation and apoptosis, respectively. Extracted exosomes were verified using transmission electron microscopy.Our results revealed that the legs of rats with collagen-induced arthritis presented with obvious swelling and bone damage, a high degree of inflammatory cell infiltration into the synovium, and structural changes to the cartilage. Data mining identified 39 dysregulated miRNAs in these tissues, and RT-qPCR further refined these observations to highlight miR-221 as a potential RA biomarker. Subsequent evaluations revealed that fibroblast-like synovial (FLS) cells secrete Exs carrying dysregulated miR-221 in vitro. These Exs mediate miR-221 levels, inflammation, and TLR4/MyD88 signaling via their fusion with chondrocytes, leading to changes in chondrocyte growth and metabolic factor levels. Additionally, the addition of triptolide impaired miR-221 expression, cell proliferation, inflammatory factors, and the protein levels of TLR4/MyD88 in RA-FLS and promoted the apoptosis of FLS. The therapeutic effect of triptolide on miR-221 Exs was reversed by miR-221 inhibitor in both normal and RA FLS.Our research shows that effective treatment with triptolide is mediated by its regulation of growth and secretory functions of chondrocytes via the inhibition of miR-221 secretion by FLS, providing a new target and natural medicinal candidate for future RA treatments.

To understand the evolution of the Miocene gravity flow deposits in the Lower Cong—Congo Fan Basin, this paper documents the Miocene sequence stratigraphic framework, the depositional characteristics and the controlling factors of the gravity flow system. Based on the establishment of high-resolution sequence stratigraphic framework, lithofacies characteristics and sedimentary units of the gravity flow deposits in the region are identified by using seismic, well logging and core data comprehensively, and the sedimentary evolution process is revealed and the controlling factors are discussed. The Miocene can be divided into four 3rd-order sequences (SQ1—SQ4). The gravity flow deposits mainly include siliciclastic rock and pelite. The main sedimentary units include slumping deposits, mass transport deposits (MTD), channel fills, levee-overbank deposits, and frontal lobes. In the Early Miocene (SQ1), mainly gull-wing, weakly restricted to unrestricted depositional channel-overbank complexes and lobes were formed. In the early Middle Miocene (SQ2), W-shaped and weakly restricted erosional-depositional channels (multi-phase superposition) were subsequently developed. In the late Middle Miocene (SQ3), primarily U-shaped and restricted erosional channels were developed. In the Late Miocene (SQ4), largely V-shaped and deeply erosional isolated channels were formed in the study area. Climate cooling and continuous fall of the sea level made the study area change from toe of slope-submarine plain to lower continental slope, middle continental slope and finally to upper continental slope, which in turn affected the strength of the gravity flow. The three times of tectonic uplifting and climate cooling in the West African coast provided abundant sediment supply for the development of gravity flow deposits. Multistage activities of salt structures played important roles in redirecting, restricting, blocking and destroying the gravity flow deposits. Clarifying the characteristics, evolution and controlling factors of the Miocene gravity flow deposits in the Lower Congo—Congo Fan Basin can provide reference for deep-water petroleum exploration in this basin.

In our previous study, Oxysterol-binding protein-related protein 2 (OSBPL2) was first identified as a new deafness-causative gene contribute to non-syndromic hearing loss. However, the underlying mechanism of OSBPL2-induced hearing loss remains unknown. Here, we used hearing-specific cells and tissues OC-1 cells and zebrafish inner ear tissues as models to identify common transcriptome changes in genes and pathways in the absence of human OSBPL2 orthologues by RNA-seq analysis. In total, 2112 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between wild-type (WT) and Osbpl2−/− OC-1 cells, and 877 DEGs were identified between WT and osbpl2b−/- zebrafish inner ear tissues. Functional annotation implicated Osbpl2/osbpl2b in lipid metabolism, cell adhesion and the extracellular matrix in both OC-1 cells and zebrafish inner ear tissues. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) analysis indicated that Osbpl2/osbpl2b were also involved in ubiquitination. Further experiments showed that Osbpl2−/− OC-1 cells exhibited an abnormal focal adhesion morphology characterized by inhibited FAK activity and impaired cell adhesion. In conclusion, we identified novel pathways modulated by OSBPL2 orthologues, providing new insight into the mechanism of hearing loss induced by OSBPL2 deficiency.

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by progressive bone erosion on diarthrodial joints. RA patients usually experienced three stages before final diagnosis: the health period, the pre-clinical period (immune response exists without clinical symptoms), and the pre-RA period (immune response exists with mild inflammatory manifestation). Presently, there is seldom guidance referring to early intervention which is a benefit for stable disease conditions and low morbidity. Prophylactic treatment is a major feature of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In this present study, a multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial is carried out to evaluate both efficacy and safety in preventing RA progression on Yunpi Qufeng Chushi formula (YQCF).Method: The multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial is conducted in 13 hospitals nationwide. A total of 390 patients ages between 18 and 70 will be recruited in the trial. They will be randomly assigned to the intervention group (YQCF) and placebo group. The follow-up visit will be taken every 3 months from baseline to 1 year. Diagnosis, disease activity scores, clinical disease activity index (CDAI), simplified disease activity index (SDAI), TCM syndrome scores, and safety assessments will be recorded at every visit. Joint color doppler ultrasound, health assessment questionnaire-disability index (HAQ-DI), and functional assessment of chronic illness therapy-fatigue (FACIT-F) will be recorded at baseline and the last visit.Discussion: This work will provide evidence of YQCF in preventing RA progression. However, whether early intervention would benefit the controlling RA disease still needs a long-term follow-up.Ethics and dissemination: Protocol version 2 (201910-1). The Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB), located on the northern continental margin of the South China Sea, underwent a complex evolution during the Paleogene. We have focused on the Baiyun Sag in the PRMB with the goal of constructing the architecture and depositional evolution of the Eocene–Early Oligocene synrift stage to the Late Oligocene early postrift stage of basin evolution. Based on analysis of 3D seismic data complemented by well logs and cores, the Paleogene basin fills can be classified into three composite sequences bounded by regional unconformities and 14 sequences bounded by local unconformities. We identify seismic facies on the basis of different internal reflection configurations, external shapes, and contact relationships. The distribution of seismic facies and lithologies interpreted from gamma-ray curves reveal that the synrift basin fill consists mainly of fan delta deposits adjacent to the southern fault scarp, braid delta deposits on the adjacent hanging-wall blocks, and lacustrine mudstones and sublacustrine fan deposits in the center of the basin. The overlying early postrift stage is dominated by shelf and shelf-slope environments, with widespread developed southward-prograding deltas and submarine fans. Tectonics is the principal controlling factor on the development and distribution of depositional systems during the synrift stage. In contrast, sea-level changes superimposed on long-term subsidence related to thermal cooling determined the stacking patterns of sequences during the postrift stage. The results provide new insights on synrift and early postrift tectonics and sedimentation patterns along an evolving passive margin.

The northeastern shelf margin of the South China Sea (SCS) is characterized by the development of large scale foresets complexes since Quaternary. Based on integral analysis of the seismic, well logging and paleontological data, successions since ∼3.0 Ma can be defined as one composite sequence, consist of a set of regional transgressive to regressive sequences. They can be further divided into six 3rd order sequences (SQ0–SQ5) based on the Exxon sequence stratigraphic model. Since ∼1.6 Ma, five sets of deltaic systems characterized by development of wedge-shaped foresets complexes or clinoforms had been identified. High-resolution seismic data and the thick foresets allowed further divided of sub-depositional sequences (4th order) of regression to transgression, which is basically consistent with published stacked benthic foram O-isotope records. Depositional systems identified in the study area include deltaic deposits (inner-shelf deltas and shelf-edge deltas), incised valleys, and slope slumping massive deposits. Since ∼1.6 Ma, clinoforms prograded from the southern Panyu Lower Uplift toward the northern Baiyun Depression, shelf slope break migrated seaward, whereas the shelf edge of SQ0 migrated landward. The development of incised valleys in the continental shelf increased upward, especially intensive on the SB3 and SB2. The slumping massive deposits increased abruptly since SB2, which corresponds to the development of incised valleys. The evolution of depositional systems of continental slope mainly controlled by the combined influence of sea level changes, tectonic movements, sediment supply and climate changes. Since ∼3.0 Ma, relative sea level of the northern SCS had been experienced transgression (∼3.0 Ma BP) to regression (∼1.6 Ma BP). The regional regression and maximum transgressions of the composite sequences were apparently enhanced by uplift or subsidence related to tectono-thermal events. In addition, climatic variations including monsoon intensification and the mid-Pleistocene transition may have enhanced sediment supply by increasing erosion rate and have an indispensable influence on the development of the incised valleys and 5 sets of deltaic systems since ∼1.6 Ma.

Oxysterol Binding Protein Like 2 (OSBPL2) is a lipid-binding protein implicated in various cellular processes. Previous studies have shown that depression of OSBPL2 significantly increases the level of cellular 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-OHC) which regulates the expression of lipid-metabolism-related genes. However, whether 25-OHC can regulate the expression of OSBPL2 remains unanswered. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism of 25-OHC regulating the expression of OSBPL2. Using dual-luciferase reporter assay, we found a decrease of nuclear transcription factor Y subunit alpha (NFYA) bound with OSBPL2 promoter when HeLa cells were treated with 25-OHC. Furthermore, transcriptome sequencing and RNA interference results revealed that the p53/sterol regulatory element binding transcription factor 2 (SREBF2) signaling pathway was involved in the NFYA-dependent transcription of OSBPL2 induced by 25-OHC. Based on these results, we concluded that pleomorphic adenoma gene 1 (PLAG1) and NFYA participated in the basal transcription of OSBPL2 and that 25-OHC decreased the transcription of OSBPL2 via the p53/SREBF2/NFYA signaling pathway. 25-OHC will accumulate over time in OSBPL2 knockdown cells. These results may provide a new insight into the deafness caused by OSBPL2 mutation.

The stratigraphic evolution of rift basins is complicated by out-of-phase displacement on boundary and intrabasinal faults and this analysis of Paleogene strata in the central Bohai Bay Basin of eastern China exemplifies this conundrum. The spatial and temporal distribution of depositional systems and sequences in the central Bohai Bay Basin are evaluated by using seismic reflection data in conjunction with drill cores and well logs. Three second-order composite sequence boundaries are identified on seismic profiles on the basis of truncations below and onlap relationships above and by abrupt changes abrupt changes in gamma-ray values on well logs. Composite sequences are comprised of third-order sequences identified as distinctive seismic packages. Variations in thickness and distribution of third-order sequences are consistent with out-of-phase displacement of boundary and intrabasinal faults which resulted in migration of depocenters in space and time. A range of depositional systems are recognized including fan delta, braid delta, river delta, sublacustrine fan, and shallow and deep lacustrine. During rift-climax stages, lowstand fan deltas developed on the hanging wall adjacent boundary faults to the north, braid deltas on the footwall ramps to the south and sublacustrine fans in the central basin. Following transgression, highstand braid deltas prograded from the north and south whereas river deltas during the late stages of basin fill. Both tectonic activity and climate were important controls on accommodation and the balance between sediment supply and accommodation determined the sedimentary architectures. Faulting, uplift and erosion as well as fault-block rotation controlled the formation of sequence boundaries and sequence geometries whereas variations in sediment flux can be attributed to climate changes. High-quality reservoirs are associated with deltaic channel-fill and sublacustrine fan sandstones. Intrabasinal faults provided pathways for oil migration whereas prodeltaic, lacustrine mudstones are source rocks as well as seals. This study demonstrates that the spatial and temporal distribution of deposystems in rift basins, in general, requires an understanding of the history of boundary and intrabasinal faults within these compartmentalized basins.

The Lower Eocene siliciclastics in the northern steep slope of the Dongying Depression, Bohai Bay Basin, are described and interpreted as subaqueous fans associated with a thick succession of lacustrine deposits. As a whole, the complicated interplay between the depositional process of these lacustrine fans and slope topography is underrepresented. An integrated study of cores, well-logs, seismic sections and seismic attribute maps have enabled the identification of three types of subaqueous fans at the root of slope, including channelized near-shore subaqueous fans, non-channelized near-shore subaqueous fans and slump turbidity fans. Channelized near-shore subaqueous fans, characterized by straight or slightly curved multi-distributary channels in N-S direction, are mainly filled with conglomerates or pebbly sandstones interbedded with mudstones. In contrast, non-channelized near-shore subaqueous fans are lobate in plane-view, lacking major channels. Slump turbidity fan typically shows an elongate shape with a single, straight-to-weakly meandering channel fronted by terminal splay. Spatial distribution and the types of these subaqueous fans varied through time along the strike of steep slope during the Eocene Es4s depositional time. Slope geomorphology from which the sediments were derived has been reconstructed. The steep slope, evolved from the joining points of extensional fault scarps, preserves numerous gullies incised downdip the whole slope. These gullies, acting as conduits for transporting sediments through the steep slope into the lacustrine basin, are downslope - oriented, ca 4 km long, ca 1 km wide and

The aggressive phenotype displayed by fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) contributes to cartilage and bone destruction in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Betulinic acid has been demonstrated to have a positive therapeutic effect on tumor, inflammation and immune disorder, however, the effects of betulinic acid on RA FLSs have not been verified. Therefore, in the present study, we observed the effect of betulinic acid on the migration and invasion of RA FLSs and explored its underlying signal mechanisms. Our results showed that betulinic acid treatment suppressed the migration, invasion and reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton of RA FLSs. In addition, we found that the mRNA expression of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-17A were markedly down-regulated by treatment with betulinic acid in TNF-α-induced RA FLSs. To gain insight into the molecular mechanisms, we evaluated the effect of betulinic acid on NF-κB activation in RA FLSs. The results indicated that betulinic acid treatment reduced the TNF-α-induced activation of NF-κB signal pathway and the NF-κB nuclear accumulation. We also observed that treatment with betulinic acid attenuated synovial inflammation and joint destruction in mice with CIA. Taken together, these results suggest that betulinic acid inhibits the migration and invasion of RA FLSs by blocking NF-κB signal pathway activation.

The widely distributed unconformity (T7) in Pearl River Mouth Basin, formed at ~ 30 Ma, is one of the most important unconformities of northern South China Sea related to the evolution of basin dynamics. Based on seismic data and logs, this study documents the distribution of the unconformity in Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB) and discusses the mechanism of the breakup unconformity in the evolution of the basin. The study verifies that the T7 boundary is a breakup unconformity: (1) most fault tips end at T7 unconformity or the offset diminishes markedly across the unconformity, and (2) these faults control the stratal thickness, reflected by the wedge shape formation. The T7 unconformity can be divided into three zones according to different structures and contact relationships: (1) the angular unconformity zone, (2) the local unconformity and onlap zone, and (3) the conformity zone, these three correspond to strong erosion zone, weak erosion zone, and non-erosion zone respectively. The distribution pattern of the breakup unconformity in this study area is controlled by the tectonic and geomorphology in the different zones of a basin: The angular erosion zone in the north is controlled by fault activity, but in local unconformity and onlap zone the erosion is mainly caused by diapir or local uplift. The conformity zone is located at the depression center in an underwater environment. This pattern indicates that the mechanism of the breakup unconformity is related to the erosion on shoulder uplift structure at the basin margin in rift stage.

The limestone reservoir beds of Late Ordovician Lianglitage Formation are preserved in northwestern Tazhong Uplift of the Tarim Basin with buried depth exceeding 6000 m. The origin of the ultra-deep limestone reservoir is still controversial, which restricts the further hydrocarbon exploration. In order to clarify the main controlling factors of reservoirs, we carried out the study of sedimentary facies, diagenesis, and reservoir characteristics based on seismic, well logging, and core data. The Lianglitage Formation in northwestern Tazhong Uplift is mainly composed of nine lithofacies that are deposited from platform margin reef-shoal, platform-interior shoal, and restricted lagoon to tidal flat environments. The Lianglitage Formation has experienced syndepositional submarine diagenesis, penecontemporaneous diagenesis, and burial diagenesis, and consequently the reservoir space in the formation mainly includes fractures and dissolution vugs and caves. Reef and shoal deposits are the material basis of favorable reservoirs, and the favorable reservoirs have been mostly improved by the dissolution of meteoric water in penecontemporaneous diagenesis. In the burial stage, the early-formed porosity was destroyed by cementation to some extent, but the fractures and associated vugs formed in the late Ordovician and Silurian-Devonian played an important role in the improvement of the reservoir. The results are of great significance to the prediction of deep carbonate reservoirs and the hydrocarbon exploration in basins of western China. Favorable facies, early-stage improvement by meteoric water, and tectonic fracture are key to the formation of high-quality large-scale deep limestone reservoirs.

The Pearl River Mouth Basin is located at the northern continental shelf of the South China Sea. Since the early Miocene, the Paleo-pearl river transported a large amount of sediments to the northwest of the basin and resulted in the formation of a large-scale river-delta depositional system, which has become an important oil and gas reservoir in the study area. In the current paper, we investigate the characteristics and evolution of fluvial-deltaic depositional systems and their controlling factors, including sea level change, tectonic subsidence and sediment supply on the basis of 3D seismic, well logging and core data. Early-Mid Miocene succession can be divided into two second-order sequences (CS1–CS2) and eight third-order sequences (S1–S8). Deltaic systems developed in S1–S2 are relatively coarse in grain size, and the delta plain deposits are dominated by thickly stacked (100–180 m) distributary channel sand bodies and interpreted as braided delta depositional system. In the early stage (S1–S2), the braided delta systems mainly distributed in the west of the Baiyun Sag, which were proceeded by a retreat to the south of the Enping Sag along with sharply rising sea level. Following the transgression of S2, the provenance of the Paleo-Pearl River extended to the coastal region of South China, and the papleoclimate changed from warm and humid to dry and cold in the early Miocene, leading to the development of transition of braided river delta to meandering river delta, which was characterized by relatively fine grain deposits. During the deposition of S3–S6, well sorted and rounded fine sandstones of deltaic front deposits accumulated in the study area. The retrogradation to accretion and subsequent progradation of these meander delta systems are attributed to the sea level change in the study area. During the deposition of S7–S8, the delta front retreated to the south of the Enping depression as a result of minor sea level rise, reduction in sediment input, and subsidence rate. This resulted in the development of a wave-controlled deltaic depositional system.

The Pearl River Mouth Basin in the South China Sea is one of the most important offshore petroliferous basins in China. Specifically, the shelf-edge delta and slope fan systems in the deepwater area of the Baiyun Sag have been regarded as the most important objects for hydrocarbon exploration, and the sequence stratigraphic structure, sedimentary evolution, and “source to sink” relationship between them is an important basis for predicting favorable areas for hydrocarbon exploration. In this study, the sequence stratigraphic structure and sedimentary system of the Late Oligocene Zhuhai Formation in the Baiyun Sag of the Pearl River Mouth Basin were studied based on a comprehensive dataset that integrated seismic, logging, and core data. A total of four third-order sequences were determined in the second-order composite sequence (CS3) according to nature of unconformities. Within each third-order sequence, the characteristics of different sedimentary systems were successfully identified. Within CS3-1 and CS3-2 the transgressive systems tracts (TST) are relatively thick, and the highstand systems tracts (HST) encompass mainly the outer-shelf deltaic deposits with thin foresets. As for CS3-3 and CS3-4, the lowstand systems tract (LST) and falling-stage systems tracts (FSST) are dominated by shelf-edge deltas and slope fans deposits, whereas the TST are very thin. The depositional evolution and “source to sink” relationship between the shelf-edge deltas and associated slope fans are revealed as follows: there are mainly three stages of shelf-edge deltas, and their sedimentary paleo-water depths were 794.9 m, 822.6 m, and 556.8 m, with progradation angles of 8.5°, 7.7°, and 5.7°, respectively; the thick delta front (200–500 m) and slump deposit are the main identification features of the shelf-edge delta. During the period of LST, although the progradation angle of the shelf-edge delta was the largest, there were few slope fans or only mud-rich slope fan deposits in the front of the delta due to the influence of relative sea-level rise, and during the period of FSST, the slump and redeposition of the delta front sand bodies provided the sand source for the formation of the slope fans, thus forming the sand-rich fans. BACKGROUND To use a gout-specific quality of life (QoL) tool, the Gout Impact Scale (GIS), to evaluate characteristics of gout affecting QoL in subjects with gout. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 169 individuals with gout completed the 24-item GIS and a general questionnaire regarding gout characteristics. The reliability and validity of the GIS were verified by Cronbach's a and exploratory factor analysis, respectively. The impact of gout characteristics on the QoL of subjects with gout was assessed by stepwise multiple regression analysis. RESULTS The 169 subjects with gout included 149 (88.2%) men and 20 (11.8%) women, of median age 43 years. The reliability of the GIS was appropriate (0.84-0.90), except for Gout Medication Side Effects (0.69) and Unmet Gout Treatment Need (0.59).
