1. Cortical superficial siderosis, hematoma volume, and outcomes after intracerebral hemorrhage: a mediation analysis

Abstract

BackgroundPrevious studies have shown that cortical superficial siderosis (cSS) can increase hematoma volume and predict poor outcomes following primary intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).ObjectiveWe aimed to determine whether a large hematoma volume was the essential factor contributing to worse outcomes of cSS.MethodsPatients with spontaneous ICH underwent a CT scan within 48 h after ictus. Evaluation of cSS was performed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) within 7 days. The 90-day outcome was assessed using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). In addition, we investigated the correlation between cSS, hematoma volume, and 90-day outcomes using multivariate regression and mediation analyses.ResultsAmong the 673 patients with ICH [mean (SD) age, 61 (13) years; 237 female subjects (35.2%); median (IQR) hematoma volume, 9.0 (3.0–17.6) ml], 131 (19.5%) had cSS. There was an association between cSS and larger hematoma volume (β = 4.449, 95% CI 1.890–7.009, p < 0.001) independent of hematoma location and was also related to worse 90-day mRS (β = 0.333, 95% CI 0.008–0.659, p = 0.045) in multivariable regression. In addition, mediation analyses revealed that hematoma volume was an essential factor mediating the effect of cSS on unfavorable 90-day outcomes (proportion mediated:66.04%, p = 0.01).ConclusionLarge hematoma volume was the major charge of directing cSS to worse outcomes in patients with mild to moderate ICH, and cSS was related to a larger hematoma in both lobar and non-lobar areas.Clinical trial registrationhttps://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04803292, identifier: NCT04803292.

Abstract

Background and purpose Cortical superficial siderosis (cSS) and cerebral microbleed (CMB) have distinct effects on intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). We aim to investigate the combined effect of cSS and CMB on outcomes after ICH.Methods Based on a single-centre stroke registry database, patients with spontaneous ICH who had CT scan within 48 hours after ictus and MRI subsequently were identified. Eligible patients were divided into four groups (cSS-CMB−, cSS-CMB+, cSS+CMB−, cSS+CMB+) according to cSS and CMB on susceptibility-weighted image of MRI. Primary outcomes were haematoma volume on admission and unfavourable outcome defined as modified Rankin Scale scores ≥3 at 3 months. Secondary outcomes were all-cause death, recurrence of stroke and ICH during follow-up (median follow-up 2.0 years, IQR 1.0–3.0 years).Results A total of 673 patients were identified from 1044 patients with spontaneous ICH. 131 (19.5%) had cSS and 468 (69.5%) had CMB. Patients with cSS+CMB+ had the highest rate of poor outcome at 3 months, as well as all-cause death, recurrent stroke and ICH during follow-up. In cSS− patients, CMB was associated with smaller haematoma (β −0.13; 95% CI −0.22 to −0.03; p=0.009), but it still increased risks of recurrent ICH (OR 4.6; 95% CI 1.3 to 15.6; p=0.015) and stroke (OR 2.0; 95% CI 1.0 to 4.0; p=0.049). These effects of CMB became unremarkable in the context of cSS+.Conclusions Patients with different combinations of cSS and CMB have distinct patterns of short-term and long-term outcomes. Although CMB is related to restrained haematoma, it does not improve long-term outcomes.Trial registration number NCT04803292.

Abstract

The study of the relative phase between strong and electromagnetic amplitudes is of great importance for understanding the dynamics of charmonium decays. The information of the phase can be obtained model-independently by fitting the scan data of some special decay channels, one of which is $\psi^{\prime} \to K^{+}K^{-}$. To find out the optimal data taking strategy for a scan experiment in the measurement of the phase in $\psi^{\prime} \to K^{+} K^{-}$, the minimization process is analyzed from a theoretical point of view. The result indicates that for one parameter fit, only one data taking point in the vicinity of a resonance peak is sufficient to acquire the optimal precision. Numerical results are obtained by fitting simulated scan data. Besides the results related to the relative phase between strong and electromagnetic amplitudes, the method is extended to analyze the fits of other resonant parameters, such as the mass and the total decay width of $\psi^{\prime}$., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures

4. Study of Charmonium(-like) States via ISR at Belle

Abstract

The cross sections for e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi, pi+pi-psi(2S), K+K-J/psi, DDbar, DDbar pi, D*Dbar, and D*D*bar are measured using data sample collected on or near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. A peak near 4.25 GeV/c^2, corresponding to the so called Y(4260), is observed in pi+pi-J/psi final state. In addition, there is another cluster of events at around 4.05 GeV/c^2. Two resonant structures are observed in the pi+pi-psi(2S) invariant mass distribution, one at 4361+-9+-9 MeV/c^2 with a width of 74+-15+-10 MeV/c^2, and another at 4664+-11+-5 MeV/c^2 with a width of 48+-15+-3 MeV/c^2. Abstract

In measuring the $\psip$ radiative decays at BESII, contribution of the background is serious in most of the final states. To extract the number of signal events, a fit to the $\chi^2$ distribution of kinematic fit using signal and background components is proposed. Extensive Monte-Carlo simulations (MCS) are performed, and the results show that the shape of $\chi^2$ distribution of the signal channel looks different from those of the background channels, thus it provides us by fitting the $\chi^2$ distribution of the data to extract the number of signal events. An input-output test is performed using MCS, and the uncertainty of the fit method is found to be less than 2%., Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures

13. Association of age at first birth and risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in women: evidence from the NHANES

Abstract

Numerous studies have suggested that age at first birth (AFB) is inversely associated with metabolic diseases, but positively associated with liver cancer in women. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a canonical example of metabolic dysfunction and inflammation-based liver disease, while the association between AFB and the risk of NAFLD remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between AFB and the odds of NAFLD in women.Women older than 20 years at the time of the survey were analyzed using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 1999 to 2018 in the US. AFB was obtained with self-administered questionnaires. NAFLD was diagnosed as fatty liver index (FLI) ≥ 60. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using logistic regression models.Of the 12,188 women included in this study, 5670 (46.5%) had NAFLD. Compared to individuals with AFB of 30-32 years old (reference group), the fully adjusted ORs and 95% CI in women with AFB 18, 18-20, 21-23, and 24-26 years were 1.52 (95% CI 1.14, 2.03), 1.60 (95% CI 1.21, 2.11), 1.40 (95% CI 1.06, 1.84), and 1.33 (95% CI 1.01-1.76), respectively. Yet there was no significant difference between AFB of 27-29, 33-35, or 35 years compared to the reference group.Women with younger AFB have higher odds of NAFLD in later life. Policymakers should consider focusing on those with earlier AFB for screening and prevention of NAFLD.

14. Impact of the interference between the resonance and continuum amplitudes on vector quarkonia decay branching fraction measurements

Abstract

The measurement of the branching fraction of a heavy quarkonium decaying into light hadronic final state at e+e− colliders is revisited. In e+e− annihilation experiments, background contributions from the continuum amplitude and its interference with the resonance amplitude are irreducible. These effects become more and more significant as the precision of experimental measurements improves. While the former can be easily subtracted with data taken off the resonance peak, the latter depends on the relative size and phase between the resonance and continuum amplitudes. Two ratios are defined to estimate the size of these effects, rRf for the ratio of the contribution of the interference term to the resonance term and rcf for that to the continuum term. We find that rRf could be as large as a few percent for narrow resonances, and both rRf and rcf could be large for broad resonances. This indicates that the interference effect is crucial for the measurements of the branching fractions aiming at the percent level or better precision and needs to be measured or estimated properly.

Abstract

The quark model was formulated in 1964 to classify mesons as bound states made of a quark–antiquark pair, and baryons as bound states made of three quarks. For a long time all known mesons and baryons could be classified within this scheme. Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), however, in principle also allows the existence of more complex structures, generically called exotic hadrons or simply exotics. These include four-quark hadrons (tetraquarks and hadronic molecules), five-quark hadrons (pentaquarks) and states with active gluonic degrees of freedom (hybrids), and even states of pure glue (glueballs). Exotic hadrons have been systematically searched for in numerous experiments for many years. Remarkably, in the past fifteen years, many new hadrons that do not exhibit the expected properties of ordinary (not exotic) hadrons have been discovered in the quarkonium spectrum. These hadrons are collectively known as X Y Z states. Some of them, like the charged states, are undoubtedly exotic. Parallel to the experimental progress, the last decades have also witnessed an enormous theoretical effort to reach a theoretical understanding of the X Y Z states. Theoretical approaches include not only phenomenological extensions of the quark model to exotics, but also modern non-relativistic effective field theories and lattice QCD calculations. The present work aims at reviewing the rapid progress in the field of exotic X Y Z hadrons over the past few years both in experiments and theory. It concludes with a summary on future prospects and challenges.

Abstract

In order to study the interactions and structure of various types of matter one typically needs to carry out scattering experiments utilizing many different particles as projectiles. Whereas beams of $e^\pm$, $\mu^\pm$, $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, proton, antiproton, and of various heavy ions have been produced and have enabled many scientific breakthroughs, beams of antineutrons, hyperons ($\Lambda$, $\Sigma$ and $\Xi$) and their antiparticles are typically not easy to obtain. Here we point out and investigate a new high-quality source of these particles: a super $J/\psi$ factory with capability of accumulating trillions of $J/\psi$ decays each year. In the relevant $J/\psi$ decays the desired particle is produced together with other final state particles that can be tagged. This allows accurate determination of the flux and momentum of the projectile, enabling unprecedented precision-study of the corresponding interactions with a broad range of targets. These novel high-statistics sources of baryons and antibaryons with precisely known kinematics open fresh opportunities for applications in particle and nuclear physics, including antinucleon-nucleon interaction, nonvalence $s\bar{s}$ component of the nucleon, (anti)hyperon-nucleon interaction, OZI violation, (multi-strange) hypernuclei, exotic light hadron spectroscopy and many others, as well as calibration of Monte Carlo simulation for hadronic and medical physics.

Abstract

Charmonium is a bound state of a charmed quark and a charmed antiquark, and a charmoniumlike state is a resonant structure that contains a charmed quark and antiquark pair but has properties that are incompatible with a conventional charmonium state. While operating at center-of-mass energies from 2 to 4.9 GeV, the BESIII experiment can access a wide mass range of charmonium and charmoniumlike states, and has contributed significantly in this field. We review BESIII results involving conventional charmonium states, including the first observation of M1 transition $\psi(3686) \to \gamma \eta_c(2S)$ and the discovery of the $\psi_2(3823)$; and report on studies of charmoniumlike states, including the discoveries of the $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4020)$ tetraquark candidates, the resolution of the fine structure of the $Y(4260)$, the discovery of the new production process $e^+e^-\to \gamma X(3872)$, and the uncovering of strong evidence for the commonality among the $X(3872)$, $Y(4260)$, and $Z_c(3900)$ states. Abstract

The standard model of particle physics is a well-tested theoretical framework, but there are still a number of issues that deserve further experimental and theoretical investigation. For quark physics, such questions include: the nature of quark confinement, the mechanism that connects the quarks and gluons of the standard model theory to the strongly interacting particles; and the weak decays of quarks, which may provide insights into new physics mechanisms responsible for the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe. These issues are addressed by the Beijing Spectrometer III (BESIII) experiment at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider II (BEPCII) storage ring, which for the past decade has been studying particles produced in electron-positron collisions in the tau-charm energy-threshold region, and has by now accumulated the world's largest datasets that enables searches for nonstandard hadrons, weak decays of the charmed particles, and new physics phenomena beyond the standard model. Abstract

By analyzing existing data on pseudoscalar charmonium decays, we obtain the ratio of the branching fractions of $\eta_c(2S)$ and $\eta_c$ decays into ten different final states with light hadrons. For the first time, we test the two existing theoretical predictions of these decays, and find that the experimental data are significantly different from both of them. The lack of observation of any decay mode with higher rate in $\eta_c(2S)$ than in $\eta_c$ decays suggests very unusual decay dynamics in pseudoscalar charmonium decays to be identified. We also report the first model-independent evaluation of the partial width of $\eta_c(2S)\to \gamma\gamma$ ($2.21_{-0.64}^{+0.88}$ keV) and improved determination of that of $\eta_c\to \gamma\gamma$ ($5.43_{-0.38}^{+0.41}$ keV). 20. Exotic states in the quarkonium sector — status and perspectives

Abstract

The discovery of hadronic states beyond the conventional two-quark meson and three-quark baryon picture in the last two decades is one of the most amazing accomplishments in fundamental physics research. Many experiments contributed to this field despite of the original goals of the design. We review the experimental progress on the study of the quarkoniumlike states — states with at least one heavy quark-antiquark pair and possible light quarks, also known as XYZ states. We give a general review and then focus on the new experimental results on the X(3872) and its bottom-quark partner Xb, the X(3960), the Y(4260), Y(4500), Y(4660), and Y(10750), and the charged charmoniumlike Zc and Zcs states. The observations suggest that we did observe hadronic molecules and we also observed hadronic states with some other quark configurations. Possible further studies at the existing and future facilities are briefly discussed.

Abstract

The cross section for the process e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9 fb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. The first resonance has a mass of (222.0 +/- 3.1 +/- 1.4) MeV/ c(2) and a width of (44.1 +/- 4.3 +/- 2.0)MeV, while the second one has a mass of (4320.0 +/- 10.4 +/- 7.0)MeV/c(2) and a width of (101.4(- 19.7)(+25.3) +/- 10.2) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and second ones are systematic. The first resonance agrees with the Y(4260) resonance reported by previous experiments. The precision of its resonant parameters is improved significantly. The second resonance is observed in e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi for the first time. The statistical significance of this resonance is estimated to be larger than 7.6 sigma. The mass and width of the second resonance agree with the Y(4360) resonance reported by the BABAR and Belle experiments within errors. Finally, the Y(4008) resonance previously observed by the Belle experiment is not confirmed in the description of the BESIII data.

25. Determination of the absolute branching fractions of X(3872) decays

Abstract

We report the first determination of the absolute branching fractions of the $X(3872)$ decays by globally analyzing the measurements provided by the Belle, BABAR, BESIII, and LHCb experiments. The branching fractions of $X(3872)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ and ${D}^{*0}{\overline{D}}^{0}+\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{c}.$ are found to be $({4.1}_{\ensuremath{-}1.1}^{+1.9})%$ and $({52.4}_{\ensuremath{-}14.3}^{+25.3})%$, respectively. The branching fractions of the decays $X(3872)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}J/\ensuremath{\psi}$, $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\psi}(3686)$, $\ensuremath{\omega}J/\ensuremath{\psi}$, and ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c1}$ are also determined. The global fit implies that the fraction of $X(3872)$ decays which are not observed in experiments is $({31.9}_{\ensuremath{-}31.5}^{+18.1})%$, which indicates that there is still a lot of room for searching for new decay modes of the $X(3872)$. With the branching fraction, we determine the production cross section of ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}X(3872)$ at center-of-mass energy 4.226 GeV.

Abstract

With the experimental examination in the past few decades, the Standard Model (SM), which describes the building blocks of matter and the fundamental forces in the universe, is considered to be the most successful theoretical model to describe the subatomic world. In particular, after the discovery of Higgs particle in 2012 at Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the success of SM reaches to an unprecedented level. However, it does leave a lot of phenomena unexplained questions, such as, what are the dark matter and dark energy? what happened to the anti-matter matter asymmetric in the world? why are there three generations of quarks and lepton with such a different mass scale? and so on. At present, it is believed that there exists a more general theory hidden deeply in the subatomic world, which includes the new physics, and can solve the all unexplained questions, and the SM is its appromiximation in the current reached energy region experimentally. On the other hand, as one of two parts of SM, Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) theory, which is theory of strong interactions, a fundamental force describing the interactions between quarks and gluons, and have been tested precisely in the high energy range, but there is still some fundamental questions unsolved in row energy region. Therefore, it is urgent for us to have the experiments beyond current level to explore and reveal the mysteries of the subatomic world. At present, the studies of particle physics based on accelerator is one of most powerful approach to investigate the subatomic world, and can be classed into two frontiers, i.e. the high energy frontiers and the high intensitive fronitiers. A super tau-charm factory, which is expected to have luminosity of 0.5 ´ 1035–1.0 ´ 1035 cm - 2 s - 1 and with center of mass energy at 2–7 GeV, is one of typical high intersitive frontiers experiment. It can produce all there generation leptons and first and secondary generation quarks and have several unique features, e.g., running on the energy at the transition between the perturbative and non-perturbative QCD, producing rich resonances, charmonium and charmed mesons, having threshold characteristics which provides clean environment for the signals, etc. The super tau-charm factory is regarded as an ideal platform to explore the hadronic physics and search for the new physics beyond the SM. In this letter, we present the key science questions and physics topics are desired on a super tau-charm factory, and discuss the feasibility and necessity to build a new generation high intensive Electron Position Accelerator Facility (HIEPA) at 2–7 GeV in China. The current international and internal situations for particle physics progress, the key technologies in both accelaerator and detector, and the driving force for science and technology to build the tau-charm factory in China are also illustrated. We conclude that HIEPA is an excellent option from all aspects for the future accelerator programs in China based on its current scale of particle physics community and the expertise reserve, and call for the start and support from the government of R&D for this project.

Abstract

The Born cross section and dressed cross section of $e^+e^-$ to $b\bar{b}$ and the total hadronic cross section in $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the bottomonium energy region are calculated based on the Rb values measured by the BaBar and Belle experiments. The data are used to calculate the vacuum polarization factors in the bottomonium energy region, and to determine the resonant parameters of the vector bottomonium(-like) states, the Y(10750), Upsilon(5S), and Upsilon(6S)., 24 pages, 10 figures. Abstract

The process e(+)e(-) -> D*D-+(s)*(s0) (2317)(-) + c.c. is observed for the first time with the data sample of 567 pb(-1) collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy root s = 4.6 GeV. The statistical significance of the D*(s0) (2317)(+/-) signal is 5.8 sigma and the mass is measured to be (2318.3 +/- 1.2 +/- 1.2) MeV/c(2). The absolute branching fraction B(D*(s0) (2317)(+/-) -> pi D-0(s)+/-) is measured as 1.00(-0.14)(+0.00) (stat)(-0.14)(+0.00) (syst) for the first time. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Abstract

We observe the decay $\psi(3686) \to n \bar{n}$ for the first time and measure $\psi(3686) \to p \bar{p}$ with improved accuracy by using $1.07\times 10^8$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to n \bar{n}) = (3.06 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to p \bar{p}) = (3.05 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.12) \times 10^{-4}$. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. With the hypothesis that the polar angular distributions of the neutron and proton in the center-of-mass system obey $1+\alpha \cos^2\theta$, we determine the $\alpha$ parameters to be $\alpha_{n\bar{n}} = 0.68 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.11$ and $\alpha_{p\bar{p}} = 1.03 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$ for $\psi(3686)\to n\bar{n}$ and $\psi(3686)\to p\bar{p}$, respectively., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

Using a sample of 448.1 x 10(6) psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, a search for the isospin violating decay eta(c) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0) via psi(3686) -> gamma eta(c) is presented. No signal is observed, and the upper limit on B(psi(3686) -> gamma eta(c)) x B(eta(c) -> pi(+) pi(-) pi(0)) is determined to be 1.6 x 10(-6) at the 90% confidence level. In addition, a search for eta(1405) -> f(0) (980) pi(0) in psi(3686) radiative decays is performed. No signal is observed, and the branching fraction B(psi(3686) -> gamma eta(1405)) x B(eta(1405) -> f(0)(980)pi(0)) x B(f(0)(980) -> pi(+)pi(-)) is calculated to be less than 5.0 x 10(-7) at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract

Using a sample of 448.1 x 10(6) Psi(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector in 2009 and 2012, we study the decays chi(c0,2) -> eta 'eta ' and eta eta '. The decays chi(c2) -> eta 'eta ', chi(c0) -> eta eta ' and chi(c2) -> eta eta ' are observed for the first time with statistical significances of 9.6 sigma, 13.4 sigma and 7.5 sigma, respectively. The branching fractions are determined to be B(chi(c0) -> eta 'eta ') = (2.19 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.14) x 10(-3), B(chi(c2) -> eta 'eta ') = (4.76 +/- 0.56 +/- 0.38) x 10(-5), B(chi(c0) -> eta eta ') = (8.92 +/- 0.84 +/- 0.65) x 10(-5) and B(chi(c2) -> eta eta ') = (2.27 +/- 0.43 +/- 0.25) x 10(-5), where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The precision for the measurement of B(chi(c0) -> eta 'eta ') thorn is significantly improved compared to previous measurements. Based on the measured branching fractions, the role played by the doubly and singly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka disconnected transition amplitudes for chi(c0,2) decays into pseudoscalar meson pairs can be clarified.

Abstract

Using a sample of 1.31 x 10(9) J/Psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we study the decays of J/Psi -> KSKL and KSKS. The branching fraction of J/Psi -> KSKL is determined to be B(J/Psi -> KSKL) = (1.93 +/- 0.01 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst)) x 10(-4), which significantly improves on previous measurements. No clear signal is observed for the J/Psi -> KSKS process, and the upper limit at the 95% confidence level for its branching fraction is determined to be B(J/Psi -> KSKS) < 1.4 x 10(-8), which improves on the previous searches by 2 orders in magnitude and reaches the order of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen expectation.

The exclusive Born cross sections of the production of $D^0$, $D^+$ and $D_s^+$ mesons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at 13 energy points between 3.970 and 4.260 GeV are obtained by applying corrections for initial state radiation and vacuum polarization to the observed cross sections measured by CLEO-c experiment. Both the statistical and the systematic uncertainties for the obtained Born cross sections are properly estimated., 7 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

Based on a sample of 1.31 billion J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector, we report the study of the doubly radiative decay eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) for the first time, where the eta' meson is produced via the J/psi -> gamma eta' decay. The branching fraction of eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0) inclusive decay is measured to be B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(Incl) = (3.20 +/- 0.07(stat) +/- 0.23(sys)) x 10(-3), while the branching fractions of the dominant process eta' -> gamma omega and the non-resonant component are determined to be B(eta' -> gamma omega) x B(omega -> gamma pi(0)) = (23.7 +/- 1.4(stat) +/- 1.8(sys)) x 10(-4) and B(eta' -> gamma gamma pi(0))(NR) = (6.16 +/- 0.64(stat) +/- 0.67(sys)) x 10(-4), respectively. In addition, the M-gamma gamma(2)-dependent partial widths of the inclusive decay are also presented.

Abstract

The cross section for the process e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi is measured precisely at center-of-mass energies from 3.77 to 4.60 GeV using 9 fb(-1) of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two resonant structures are observed in a fit to the cross section. The first resonance has a mass of (222.0 +/- 3.1 +/- 1.4) MeV/ c(2) and a width of (44.1 +/- 4.3 +/- 2.0)MeV, while the second one has a mass of (4320.0 +/- 10.4 +/- 7.0)MeV/c(2) and a width of (101.4(- 19.7)(+25.3) +/- 10.2) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and second ones are systematic. The first resonance agrees with the Y(4260) resonance reported by previous experiments. The precision of its resonant parameters is improved significantly. The second resonance is observed in e(+)e(-)-> pi(+) pi(-) J/psi for the first time. The statistical significance of this resonance is estimated to be larger than 7.6 sigma. The mass and width of the second resonance agree with the Y(4360) resonance reported by the BABAR and Belle experiments within errors. Finally, the Y(4008) resonance previously observed by the Belle experiment is not confirmed in the description of the BESIII data.

Abstract

We report the progress in the study of the exotic hadrons, also called XYZ states, at BESIII experiment with its unique data samples in e+ e− annihilation at center-of-mass energies of 3.8–4.6 GeV. The talk covers the observation of the Zc(3900) and Zc(4020) and new measurements related to them; updated measurement of the resonant parameters of the Y(4260) in e+ e−→ π+π− J/ψ and discovery of its new decay modes π+π−ψ(2S), ωχc0, π+π−hc, and D0D∗−π++c.c.; and observation of X(3872) in e+e− annihilation.

Abstract

The number of J/psi events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPC II from June 12 to July 28, 2009 is determined to be (225.3 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) using J/psi -> inclusive events, where the uncertainty is the systematic error and the statistical one is negligible.

Abstract

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies root s > 4.4 GeV, the processes e(+)e(-) -> omega chi(c1,2) are observed for the first time. With an integrated luminosity of 1074 pb(-1) near root s = 4.42 GeV, a significant omega chi(c2) signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be (20.9 +/- 3.2 +/- 2.5) pb. With 567 pb(-1) near root s = 4.6 GeV, a clear omega chi(c2) signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be (9.5 +/- 2.1 +/- 1.3) pb, while evidence is found for an omega chi(c2) signal. The first errors are statistical, and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the omega chi(c2) cross section, an enhancement is seen around root s = 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the psi(4415) Breit-Wigner function and a phase-space term, the branching fraction B(psi(4415) -> omega chi(c2)) is obtained to be of the order of 10(-3).

Abstract

We present a study of the process e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-) (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) using data samples of 1092 pb(-1) at root s = 4.23 GeV and 826 pb(-1) at root s = 4.26 GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. With full reconstruction of the D meson pair and the bachelor pi(+) in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure Z(c) (3885)(-/+) in the (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) system in the two isospin processes e(+)e(-) -> pi(+DD)-D-0*(-) and e(+)e(-) -> pi+D-D*(0). By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)(-/+) signal is determined to be greater than 10 sigma, and its pole mass and width are measured to be M-pole = (3881.7 +/- 1.6(stat) +/- 1.6(syst)) MeV/c(2) and Gamma(pole) = (26.6 +/- 2.0(stat) +/- 2.1(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) branching fraction (sigma(e(+)e(-) -> pi(+/-)Z(c)(3885)(-/+)) x Br(Z(c)(3885)(-/+) -> (D (D) over bar*)(-/+) )) is measured to be (141.6 +/- 7.9(stat) +/- 12.3(syst)) pb at root s = 4.23 GeV and (108.4 +/- 6.9(stat) +/- 8.8(syst)) pb at root s = 4.26 GeV. The polar angular distribution of the pi(+) - Z(c)(3885)(-/+) system is consistent with the expectation of a quantum number assignment of J(P) = 1(+) for Z(c)(3885)(-/+).

Abstract

Multiple solutions exist in various experimental situations whenever the sum of several amplitudes is used to fit the experimentally measured distributions, such as the cross section, the mass spectrum, or the angular distribution. We show a few examples where multiple solutions were found, while only one solution was reported in the publications. Since there is no existing rules found in choosing any one of these solutions as the physics one, we propose a simple rule which agrees with what have been adopted in previous literatures: the solution corresponding to the minimal magnitudes of the amplitudes must be the physical solution. Abstract

The BESIII and the LHCb became the leading experiments in the study of the exotic states after the Belle and BaBar experiments finished their data taking in the first decade of this century. We review the progress in the study of the XYZ states at BESIII and LHCb experiments with their unique data samples in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at center-of-mass energies of 3.8--4.6~GeV and in pp collision at center-of-mass energies 7, 8, and 13~TeV, respectively. With these data samples, we have deepened our understanding of the most famous charmonium-like states X(3872), Y(4260), Z_c(3900), and Z_c(4430), as well as other similar states like the Y(4140) and X(3823). We review the progress in the study of these states, and also discuss perspectives at future experiments., Comment: updated a few references and numbers

Abstract

This paper focuses mainly on the vertex reconstruction of resonance particles with a relatively long lifetime such as K0S, Λ, as well as on lifetime measurements using a 3-dimensional fit. The kinematic constraints between the production and decay vertices and the decay vertex fitting algorithm based on the least squares method are both presented. Reconstruction efficiencies including experimental resolutions are discussed. The results and systematic errors are calculated based on a Monte Carlo simulation.

Abstract

We present a study of τ − → K − π + π − ν τ decay using ∼669 fb−1 data, collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric–energy e + e − collider. The data is recorded at a center–of–mass energy 10.58 GeV. The result for the branching ratio is: B = ( 3.25 ± 0.02 ( s t a t . ) − 0.15 + 0.16 ( s y s . ) ) × 10 − 3 . We also present results of the precise measurement of the branching ratio of other 3–prong decay modes, τ − → π − π + π − ν τ , τ − → K − K + π − ν τ , and τ − → K − K + K − ν τ .
