There is currently no ideal treatment for osteochondral lesions of the femoral head (OLFH) in young patients.We performed a 1-year single-arm study and 2 additional years of follow-up of patients with a large (defined as3 cm 2 ) OLFH treated with insertion of autologous costal cartilage graft (ACCG) to restore femoral head congruity after lesion debridement. Twenty patients ≤40 years old who had substantial hip pain and/or dysfunction after nonoperative treatment were enrolled at a single center. The primary outcome was the change in Harris hip score (HHS) from baseline to 12 months postoperatively. Secondary outcomes included the EuroQol visual analogue scale (EQ VAS), hip joint space width, subchondral integrity on computed tomography scanning, repair tissue status evaluated with the Magnetic Resonance Observation of Cartilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) score, and evaluation of cartilage biochemistry by delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) and T2 mapping.All 20 enrolled patients (31.02 ± 7.19 years old, 8 female and 12 male) completed the initial study and the 2 years of additional follow-up. The HHS improved from 61.89 ± 6.47 at baseline to 89.23 ± 2.62 at 12 months and 94.79 ± 2.72 at 36 months. The EQ VAS increased by 17.00 ± 8.77 at 12 months and by 21.70 ± 7.99 at 36 months (p0.001 for both). Complete integration of the ACCG with the bone was observed by 12 months in all 20 patients. The median MOCART score was 85 (interquartile range [IQR], 75 to 95) at 12 months and 75 (IQR, 65 to 85) at the last follow-up (range, 24 to 38 months). The ACCG demonstrated magnetic resonance properties very similar to hyaline cartilage; the median ratio between the relaxation times of the ACCG and recipient cartilage was 0.95 (IQR, 0.90 to 0.99) at 12 months and 0.97 (IQR, 0.92 to 1.00) at the last follow-up.ACCG is a feasible method for improving hip function and quality of life for at least 3 years in young patients who were unsatisfied with nonoperative treatment of an OLFH. Promising long-term outcomes may be possible because of the good integration between the recipient femoral head and the implanted ACCG.Therapeutic Level IV . To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Qishe Pill (芪麝丸) on neck pain in real-world clinical practice. A multi-center, prospective, observational surveillance in 8 hospitals across Shanghai was conducted. During patients receiving 4-week Qishe Pill medication, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) assessments have been used to assess their pain and function, while safety monitoring have been observed after 2 and 4 weeks. Results from 2,023 patients (mean age 54.5 years) suggest that the drug exposure per unit of body mass was estimated at 3.41 ± 0.62 g/kg. About 8.5% (172/2,023) of all participants experienced adverse events (AEs), while 3.8% (78/2,023) of all participants experienced adverse reaction. The most common AEs were gastrointestinal events and respiratory events. The VAS score (pain) and NDI score (function) significantly decreased after 4-week treatment. An effect-quantitative analysis was also conducted to show that the normal clinical dosage may be consider as 3–4 g/kg, at which dosage the satisfactory pain-relief effect may achieve by 40-mm reduction in VAS. These findings showed that patients with cervical radiculopathy who received Qishe Pill experienced significant improvement on pain and function. (Registration No. NCT01875562)

Implant failure, which is commonly associated with failure of osseointegration and peri-implant infection, is a severe complication of orthopedic surgery. In particular, the survival rate of implants is significantly decreased in patients using long-term glucocorticoids (GCs). However, the exact molecular mechanism underlying GCs-induced implant loosening, as well as preventive strategies for these patients, is unclear. To address this problem, we performed RNA-sequencing and found that WNT16 was correlated with GCs-induced osteopenia (LogFC = -5.17, p ＜ 0.01). Inspired by the concept of "organic-inorganic" hybrid, we theorized to introduce a bioactive two-dimensional nanosheet into a layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly coating to construct a customized implant that targets WNT16. After screening commercially available nanosheets, laponite (LAP) was identified as a cost-effective rescuer for GCs-induced WNT16 inhibition, which was then intercalated into LbL deposition system consisting of quaternized chitosan (QCS) and hyaluronic acid (HA). The hybrid coating (QCS/HA/LAP) showed micrometer thickness and improved hydrophilicity and interface roughness. Furthermore, QCS/HA/LAP coated polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implant enhanced cell viability, adhesion, and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and promoted osteointegration of PEEK in GCs-treated rats by targeting the WNT16/β-catenin axis. To explore the clinical effect of the simple nucleus pulposus removal and small incision interlaminar window in the treatment of prolapsed and displaced lumbar disc herniation.From February 2016 to February 2018, 35 patients with single-segment prolapse and displaced lumbar disc herniation were treated by the simple nucleus pulposus removal and small incision interlaminar window under general anesthesia. Among them, there were 21 males and 14 females;aged (42±17) years;27 cases of LAll the operations were successful and the operation time was 30 to 60 min with an average of 40 min, the intraoperative blood loss was 10 to 30 ml with an average of 20 ml. All the patients were followed up for 1 to 3 years with an average of 1.2 years. Thirty-five patients with low back pain and lower limb symptoms were significantly relieved or disappeared. According to modified Macnab standard, 29 cases obtained excellent results, 5 good, and 1 fair.Applying the concept of minimally invasive operation, small incision interlaminar window and simple nucleus pulposus removal for the treatment of prolapsed and displaced lumbar disc herniation has the advantages of short operation time, definite curative effect, and less trauma. And it is a safe and effective surgical method under the premise of strict control of the indications.

IntroductionThis study aimed to explore the potential genetic and epigenetic mechanisms associated with IDO1 mRNA dysregulation in esophageal cancer (ESCA).Material and methodsData from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-ESCA and The Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project were obtained for analysis. Subgroup analysis was performed in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and esophageal adenocarcinoma (ESAD) respectively.ResultsIDO1 expression was significantly upregulated in ESAD and ESCC tissues than in normal esophagus. Although gene-level copy number alterations were common in both ESAD and ESCC, they were not associated with IDO1 dysregulation. Among 3 CpG sites (cg10262052 and cg08465774 in promoter and cg24188163 in gene body) in IDO1 gene locus examined, only cg10262052 was hypomethylated in cancerous tissues than in normal tissues in ESAD. All 3 sites showed significantly different methylation in ESCC than in normal tissues, among which cg10262052 and cg08465774 were hypomethylated, while cg24188163 was hypomethylated. Correlation analysis confirmed negative correlations between cg10262052/cg08465774 methylation and IDO1 expression while cg24188163 methylation was positively correlated with IDO1 expression (Pearson’s r=0.45) in ESCC patients. Genomic study confirmed that cg24188163 is in the flanking region of an intragenic promoter of IDO1. IDO1 expression had an independent prognostic value in terms of OS in ESCC patients (HR: 1.183, 95%CI: 1.025-1.367, p=0.022), but was not a risk factor of unfavorable OS in ESAD patients.ConclusionsIDO1 mRNA upregulation was associated with both promoter hypomethylation and gene body hypermethylation in ESCC. Its expression has a specific prognostic value in terms of OS in ESCC, but not in ESAD patients.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is well recognized as the most common type of peripheral neuropathy. A rare cause of CTS is tophaceous gout. Tophi deposits can accumulate in various structures including the flexor tendons, tendon sheaths, the carpal tunnel floor, transverse carpal ligament, and even the median nerve, causing various symptoms such as pain, numbness, and weakness. Tophi forming in the carpal canal can compress the median nerve, leading to CTS. Here, we describe a 25-year-old male with a family history of tophaceous gout who presented with typical CTS symptoms. Although he had chronic numbness in his right hand, he failed to present with any obvious palpable masses on his forearm or hand. However, his family history, laboratory, clinical, and magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with tophi deposits. CTS symptoms were eased through surgical removal of tophi and decompression of the median nerve. No recurrences of gout and CTS symptoms were reported at a one-year follow-up. This case shows that CTS symptoms could be the initial manifestation of tophaceous gout. In patients with a family history of gout and with CTS symptoms, imaging examinations are critical for early diagnosis and selecting appropriate treatment. Surgical removal of "covert" tophi and decompression of the median nerve is an effective option for eliminating symptoms.

Glucocorticoids (GCs) are the most common cause of atraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) because their effect compromises the osteogenic capability of bone marrow‑derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). Valproic acid (VPA) is a widely used anti‑epileptic and anti‑convulsant drug. Previous studies have reported that VPA promotes osteogenic differentiation of MSCs in vitro and osteogenesis in vivo as a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of VPA as a precautionary treatment of ONFH after GC treatment in rats. In vitro, the effect of VPA, dexamethasone or a combination treatment of the two on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human BMSCs was assessed using a Cell Counting Kit‑8 and apoptosis assays, and by measuring the expression of proteins associated with osteogenesis. In vivo, a GC‑induced ONFH model was established in rats and VPA was added during GC treatment to investigate the preventive effect of VPA against ONFH. Rat BMSCs were also extracted to investigate the osteogenic capacity. The results of micro‑computed tomography scanning, angiography of the femoral head and histological and immunohistochemical analyses indicated that 11 of 15 rats induced with methylprednisolone (MP) presented with ONFH, while only 2 of 15 rats treated with a combination of MP and VPA developed ONFH. VPA produced beneficial effects on subchondral bone trabeculae in the femoral head with significant preservation of bone volume and blood supply, as well as improved osteogenic capability of BMSCs compared with those in rats treated with GC alone. In conclusion, VPA attenuated the inhibitory effect of GC on BMSC proliferation and osteogenesis by inhibiting apoptosis and elevating the expression of proteins associated with osteogenesis, which may contribute to the prevention of GC‑induced ONFH in rats.

Background Biomaterial-induced osteogenesis is mainly related to hierarchically porous structures and bioactive components. Rare earth elements are well known to promote osteogenesis and stimulate bone repair; however, the underlying biological effects of gadolinium (Gd) element on bone regeneration are not yet known. Methods In this study, we successfully fabricated gadolinium-doped bioglass (Gd-BG) scaffolds by combining hollow mesoporous Gd-BG microspheres with chitosan and evaluated in vitro effects and underlying mechanisms with Cell Counting Kit-8, scanning electron microscopy, alkaline phosphatase, Alizarin red staining, and polymerase chain reaction. Cranial defect model of rats was constructed to evaluate their in vivo effects. Results The results indicated that Gd-BG scaffolds could promote the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs). Mechanistically, the Akt/GSK3β signaling pathway was activated by the Gd-BG scaffolds. The enhancing effect of Gd-BG scaffolds on the osteogenic differentiation of hBMSCs was inhibited by the addition of LY294002, an inhibitor of Akt. Moreover, the in vivo cranial defect model of rats indicated that the Gd-BG scaffolds could effectively promote bone regeneration. Conclusion Both in vitro and in vivo results suggested that Gd-BG scaffolds have promising applications in bone tissue engineering.

Mesenchymal stem cells have been widely studied to promote local bone regeneration of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Previous studies observed that dimethyloxaloylglycine (DMOG) enhanced the angiogenic and osteogenic activity of mesenchymal stem cells by activating the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), thereby improving the bone repair capacity of mesenchymal stem cells. In the present study, it was investigated whether DMOG could increase the bone repair capacity of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) in the treatment of ONFH. Western blot analysis was performed to detect HIF-1α protein expression in ASCs treated with different concentrations of DMOG. The results showed DMOG enhanced HIF-1α expression in ASCs in a dose-dependent manner at least for 7 days. Furthermore, DMOG-treated ASCs were transplanted into the necrotic area of a rabbit model of ONFH to treat the disease. Four weeks later, micro-computed tomography (CT) quantitative analysis showed that 58.8±7.4% of the necrotic area was regenerated in the DMOG-treated ASCs transplantation group, 45.5±3.4% in normal ASCs transplantation group, 25.2±2.8% in only core decompression group and 10.6±2.6% in the untreated group. Histological analysis showed that transplantation of DMOG-treated ASCs clearly improved the bone regeneration of the necrotic area compared with the other three groups. Micro-CT and immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated the revasculation of the necrotic area were also increased significantly in the DMOG-treated ASC group compared with the control groups. Thus, it is hypothesized that DMOG could increase the bone repair capacity of ASCs through enhancing HIF-1α expression in the treatment of ONFH.

The Hongniu-Hongshan Cu skarn deposit (77.8 Mt at 1.8% Cu) is located in the central part of the Zhongdian porphyry and skarn Cu belt in southwestern China. Skarn and orebodies occur mainly between the different units of the Upper Triassic Qugasi Formation or within altered limestone adjacent to Late Cretaceous intrusions (78–76 Ma). Three main paragenetic stages of skarn formation and ore deposition have been recognized on the basis of petrographic observations: (1) pre-ore-stage hornfels with diopside (Di87–72Hd12–7), small-scale endoskarn with reddish grossular (Adr22–57Gr78–43), diopside (Di83–92Hd7–15), vesuvianite, and abundant exoskarn with red-brown andradite (Adr75–98Gr2–22), sahlite (Di28–41Hd58–71), and wollastonite; (2) syn-ore-stage retrograde minerals, sulfides (pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, molybdenite, galena, and sphalerite), quartz, and calcite; and (3) post-ore-stage calcite veins. Sulfur isotope values of sulfides are relatively high, with an average δ 34S = 4.9‰ (n = 40), suggesting that the ore-forming fluid was magmatic and that the sulfides precipitated from a relatively reducing ore fluid. The coexistence of silicate melt and primary fluid inclusions in quartz phenocrysts of the mineralization-related quartz monzonite porphyry indicates the simultaneous entrapment of fluid and melt, and records the process of the aqueous fluid exsolving from the crystallizing melt. The initial single-phase fluid has a salinity of 8.8 to 12.7 wt % NaCl equiv and homogenization temperatures of 566° to 650°C, corresponding to pressures of 680 to 940 bar and lithostatic depth of 2.5 to 3.5 km. The primary fluid inclusions in the pre-ore-stage garnet and pyroxene composed of coeval vapor-rich (V type) and halite-bearing (S-I and S-II types containing sylvite) inclusions (32–>79 total wt % salts) share similar homogenization temperatures (450°–550°C), indicative of the occurrence of fluid unmixing under lithostatic pressures of ~550 to 780 bar (>2.0-km depth). Primary fluid inclusions trapped in syn-ore quartz, calcite, and epidote show the common development of S-type inclusions (~37.3 wt % NaCl equiv) with coexisting V-type, liquid-rich (L type), and CO2-bearing (C-I type) inclusions, all of which have homogenization temperatures of 300° to 400°C and trapping pressures of 100 to 400 bar (~1.5-km depth). Brine inclusions homogenized by halite dissolution after vapor disappearance in both the pre- and syn-ore stages are interpreted to have been trapped under overpressured conditions (>1,520 bar). Oxygen isotope analyses were conducted on garnet, wollastonite, epidote, quartz, and calcite. The pre-ore-stage garnet and wollastonite have δ 18Ofluid values of 5.6 to 8.1‰, whereas the syn-ore-stage epidote, quartz, and calcite have more variable δ 18Ofluid values in the range of 3.9 to 17.5‰. The δ 18Ofluid values of the post-ore-stage vein calcite (15.2–21.3‰) are much higher than both the pre- and syn-ore stages. The vapor phase of inclusions contains H2S, CH4, and C2H6 in the syn-ore stages. All these observations reveal that (1) the formation of the Cu skarn deposit was dominated by a magmatic hydrothermal system, (2) multiple fluid pulses contributed to the formation of the pre- and syn-ore-stage skarn minerals and sulfides, and (3) the increase in pH due to the neutralization of the acidic fluid could be the main factor controlling the large-scale ore deposition in Hongniu-Hongshan.

Based on the spectral representation of zero-mean stationary process, another method of fitting the target power spectrum is obtained. The fitted random sequence is uniformly convergent with respect to the target sequence. Compared to the commonly used wave superposition method in simulating wind velocity fluctuations, its merits and deficiencies are shown.

Introduction and aim Accurately predicting the prognosis of individual patient is crucial in the management of ACLF. We aimed to establish a specific prognostic model for HBV-related ACLF patients treated with nucleoside analog (NA). Material and methods We prospectively collected 205 ACLF cases diagnosed according to the APASL criteria. A dynamic prognostic model based on APASL criteria was established and validated. To demonstrate that the model is also applicable to those within EASL criteria, we divided the patients into two groups: met APASL criteria only (group A, n = 123); met both APASL and EASL criteria (group B, n = 82). Its prognostic accuracy was also compared with chronic liver failure-sequential organ failure assessment (CLIF-SOFA) score in group B. Results The model is: R = 0.94 x Bilirubin + 0.53 x evolution of Bilirubin - 0.45 x PT-A - 0.22 x evolution in PT-A -0.1 x PLT + 10 x anti-HBe. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of the model for predicting 90-day mortality was 0.86, which was significantly higher than that of model for end stage liver disease(MELD), MELD-Na, CLIF-SOFA, ΔMELD (7d) and ΔMELD-Na (7d), ΔCLIF- SOFA(7d) (all p l 0.01). The AUC of our model in the validation group was 0.79 which was superior to MELD (0.45) CLIF-SOFA (0.53) score in group B patients (p l 0.01). Conclusion In conclusion, the model was superior to the conventional methods in predicting the outcomes of patients with HBV related ACLF treated with NA. It is the first description of a novel prognostic model using consecutive data in patients with HBV-induced acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) treated by nucleoside analogs.

The Sichuan–Yunnan–Guizhou (S–Y–G) Zn–Pb triangle is a world-class metallogenic belt in southwestern China that contains hundreds of carbonate-hosted giant-to-small epigenetic Zn–Pb deposits. Here, we provide an overview of the ore geology, geochemistry and ore-forming fluids of the major Zn–Pb deposits in this area. These deposits are most likely Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) deposits that formed as a result of the regional migration of basinal brines along large fault systems and more minor secondary structures. The Sm–Nd age (201 ± 6.2 Ma) of ore-stage fluorite from the Jinshachang Zn–Pb deposit, within northeast Yunnan province, China, reveals this deposit formed during the Late Triassic, consistent with the majority of the published isotopic ages for other Zn–Pb deposits in the S–Y–G MVT triangle. These fluorite samples have initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.711385–0.711463 and eNd values of −8.4 to −8.7, confirming the basin-related nature of the mineralizing fluids. Published geochronological data combined with basic features of MVT deposits (e.g., geology, geochemistry, and ore-forming fluids) and the geological evolution of the study area has enabled us to develop a model for the Zn–Pb mineralization, where this word-class MVT belt has formed as a result of the regional-scale migration of basinal fluids coincident with tectonic activity along ore-controlling structures (e.g., thrust–fold systems). Both the fluid migration and the tectonic activity were probably triggered by the late Indosinian Orogeny, which in turn was a response to the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean.

The Late Cretaceous Hongniu–Hongshan porphyry–skarn copper deposit is located in the Zhongdian area of northwestern Yunnan Province, China. Garnets from the deposit have compositions that range from Adr14Grs86 to almost pure andradite (Adr98Grs2) and display two different styles of zoning. The garnets are predominantly of magmatic-hydrothermal origin, as is evidenced by their 18Ofluid (5.4–6.9‰) and low Dfluid (−142‰ to −100‰) values, both of which likely result from late-stage magmatic open-system degassing. Three generations of garnet have been identified in this deposit: (1) Al-rich garnets (Grt I; Adr22–57Grs78–43) are anisotropic, have sector dodecahedral twinning, are slightly enriched in light rare earth elements (LREEs) compared with the heavy rare earth elements (HREEs), have negative or negligible Eu anomalies, and contain high concentrations of F. Fluid inclusions within these Al-rich garnets generally have salinities of 12–39 wt.% NaCl eq. and have liquid–vapor homogenization temperatures (Th) of 272–331 °C. The Grt I are most likely associated with low- to medium-salinity fluids that were generated by the contraction of an ascending vapor phase and that formed during diffusive metasomatism caused by pore fluids equilibrating with the host rocks at low W/R (water/rock) ratios. These garnets formed as a result of the high F activity of the system, which increased the solubility of Al within the magmato-hydrothermal fluids in the system. (2) Fe-rich garnets (Adr75–98Grs25–2) have trapezohedral faces, and are both anisotropic with oscillatory zoning and isotropic. These second-generation Fe-rich garnets (Grt II) have high ΣREE concentrations, are LREE-enriched and HREE-depleted, and generally have positive but variable Eu anomalies. All of the Fe-rich garnets contain high-salinity fluid inclusions with multiple daughter minerals with salinities of 33–80 wt.% NaCl eq. Some of them show higher temperatures of halite dissolution (465–591 °C) than liquid–vapor homogenization temperatures (319–473 °C), and several Fe-rich garnets contain inclusion groups indicative of boiling. The Grt II are associated with high-temperature, hypersaline fluids that were segregated from magma at a depth of at least 5.6 km and reacted with carbonates at depths shallower than 2.0 km. (3) Al-rich garnet veins (Adr14–60Grs86–40) contain allotriomorphic crystals, have lower HFSE (high field strength element) and REE concentrations than the other garnets, and have HREE-enriched and LREE-depleted patterns with small Eu anomalies that are typical of the majority of garnets. The Grt III most likely formed from residual metasomatic fluids.

Multi-sensor information fusion problem contains many characteristic indexes, and thus it can be resolved using a multi-attribute decision making method. Information entropy is used to objectively determine the attributes weights, and thus it can overcome the subjective randomness. The aim of this paper is to develop a new multi-sensor object recognition method based on close value method. The example of part recognition proves that the proposed method is both feasible and effective.

Hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) plays an important role in angiogenesis-osteogenesis coupling during bone regeneration, which can enhance the bone healing capacity of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) by improving their osteogenic and angiogenic activities. Previous studies transduced the HIF-1α gene into MSCs with lentivirus vectors to improve their bone healing capacity. However, the risks due to lentivirus vectors, such as tumorigenesis, should be considered before clinical application. Dimethyloxaloylglycine (DMOG) is a cell-permeable prolyl-4-hydroxylase inhibitor, which can activate the expression of HIF-1α in cells at normal oxygen tension. Therefore, DMOG is expected to be an alternative strategy for enhancing HIF-1α expression in cells. In this study, we explored the osteogenic and angiogenic activities of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) treated with different concentrations of DMOG in vitro, and the bone healing capacity of DMOG-treated ASCs combined with hydrogels for treating critical-sized calvarial defects in rats. The results showed that DMOG had no obvious cytotoxic effects on ASCs and could inhibit the death of ASCs induced by serum deprivation. DMOG markedly increased vascular endothelial growth factor production in ASCs in a dose-dependent manner and improved the osteogenic differentiation potential of ASCs by activating the expression of HIF-1α. Rats with critical-sized calvarial defects treated with hydrogels containing DMOG-treated ASCs had more bone regeneration and new vessel formation than the other groups. Therefore, we believe that DMOG enhanced the angiogenic and osteogenic activity of ASCs by activating the expression of HIF-1α, thereby improving the bone healing capacity of ASCs in rat critical-sized calvarial defects.

Lithium-based chemicals are known to their signal effect on restraining alkali-silica reaction but uncertain influence on workability and mechanical property in the concrete. The aim of this research is to analyze the effects of three lithium additiveslithium nitrate (LiNO3), lithium hydroxide (LiOH) and lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) at various dosages, with an extensive comparison on fluidities, setting times and compressive strength of cement pastes. The experimental study shows that test results vary with the type of admixture. In general, three conclusions can be made: 1) lithium nitrate and lithium hydroxide can enhance the fluidity of cement paste, but lithium carbonate has opposite effects; 2) all three lithium salts shorten setting time as well as decrease the strength at suitable dosages; 3) the variations in lithium additives dosages have different influence on the cement pastes setting time and compressive strength development.

The Hongniu-Hongshan porphyry and skarn copper deposit is located in the Triassic Zhongdian island arc, northwestern Yunnan province, China. Single-zircon laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry U–Pb dating suggests that the diorite porphyry and the quartz monzonite porphyry in the deposit area formed at 200 Ma and 77 Ma, respectively. A Re–Os isotopic date of molybdenite from the ore is 78.9 Ma, which indicates that in addition to the known Triassic Cu–(Au) porphyry systems, a Late Cretaceous porphyry Cu–Mo mineralization event also exists in the Zhongdian arc. The quartz monzonite porphyry shows characteristics of a magnetite series intrusion, with a high concentration of Al, K, Rb, Ba, and Pb, low amount of Ta, Ti, Y, and Yb, and a high ratio of Sr/Y (average 26.42). The Cretaceous porphyry also shows a strong fractionation between light and heavy rare earth elements (average (La/Yb) N 37.9), which is similar to those of the Triassic subduction-related diorite porphyry in the Hongniu-Hongshan deposit and the porphyry hosting the Pulang copper deposit. However, in contrast to the older intrusions, the quartz monzonite porphyry contains higher concentrations of large ion lithophile elements and Co, and lesser Sr and Zr. Therefore, whereas the Triassic porphyry Cu–(Au) mineralization is related to slab subduction slab in an arc setting, the quartz monzonite porphyry in the Hongniu-Hongshan deposit formed by the remelting of the residual oceanic slab combined with contributions from subduction-modified arc lithosphere and continental crust, which provided the metals for the Late Cretaceous mineralization.

Managing tumors of the proximal fibula may require en bloc resection of the fibular head with the attachment site of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) and biceps femoris tendon. The aim of the present study was to evaluate knee stability and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) functional score of patients with proximal fibula tumors. Twenty-nine patients with proximal fibula tumors were retrospectively reviewed (18 patients in the reconstruction group and 11 patients in the non-reconstruction group). A comparative analysis was conducted of knee stability (measuring the degree of lateral joint space opening using varus stress radiographs with a 30o knee flexion) and MSTS functional score between the two groups. The mean follow-up period was 42.8±20.9 months (range 24–117) and 40.8±26.0 months (range 24–117) for the reconstruction and the non-reconstruction groups, respectively. Fifteen patients (83.3%) in the reconstruction group had a stable knee, one (5.6%) had grade 1 instability and two (11.1%) had grade 2 instability. Four patients (36.4%) in the non-reconstruction group had a stable knee, three (27.3%) had grade 1 instability, one (9.1%) had grade 2 instability and three (27.3%) had grade 3 instability. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is considered as a prime mediator of angiogenesis and has been implicated in carcinogenesis and metastasis. Various studies examined the relationship between VEGF overexpression with the clinical outcome in patients with osteosarcoma but yielded conflicting results. Electronic databases updated to April 2013 were searched to find relevant studies. A meta-analysis was conducted with eligible studies which quantitatively evaluated the relationship between VEGF overexpression and survival of patients with osteosarcoma. Survival data were aggregated and quantitatively analyzed. We performed a meta-analysis of eight studies that evaluated the correlation between VEGF overexpression and survival in patients with osteosarcoma. Combined hazard ratios suggested that VEGF overexpression had an unfavorable impact on overall survival (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.75, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.21-2.28) in patients with osteosarcoma for overall populations, 2.37 (1.35-3.39) in Asian studies but not in non-Asian studies (HR = 1.51, 95% CI: 0.89-2.14). No significant heterogeneity was observed among all studies. VEGF overexpression indicates a poor prognosis for patients with osteosarcoma. However, the prognostic value of VEGF on survival in osteosarcoma patients still needs further large-scale prospective trials to be clarified.

We selected cervical cross section image from CVH-F1 (Chinese Visible Human Female, No.1) database. After labeling the relative structures, we made 3D reconstruction of brachial plexus and surrounding tissue by computer reconstruction technique. In cervical cross section image, tissues like vertebrae, disc, spinal dura mater, spinal cord, vertebral artery, nerve root and muscles can be recognized, which ensure the ideal effect of 3-D reconstruction. In conclusion, we can make 3-D reconstruction of brachial plexus through computer technique which may serve for anatomical study of brachial plexus compression. After that we made vertical section on the nerve and calculate the ratio between area of nerve and its gap. In result, it is suggested that the nerve passage for root and strand is comparatively narrower.
