This study analyzes the dynamic model of epidemic disease system based on the maximum entropy approach to reliability. The epidemic disease system is assumed to be composed of several classes, namely susceptible class, infective class, resistance class, exposed class and so on. The dynamics of the populations in each class are depicted by a number of differential equations, where the populations transmitting between the classes are the averages of transmitting populations in microscopic stochastic transmission process. In microscopic transmission process, several basic variables are assumed to be random, such as incubation period, hospitalization duration and so on. To infer the probability distributions of these variables is a main task of this study. Inspired by the recent study of reliability, the maximum entropy based approach is applied to determine the parameters in the dynamic model. The basic idea of this study is presented below. In this study, degrade (hazard) function, which is a fundamental quantity in the disciplines of risk and reliability analysis, is associated with death rate, incidence rate and healing rate. Specifically, death rate and healing rate of the infective people are associated with hazard rate and repair rate of the repaired system in reliability theory, respectively; the incidence rate is associated to the hazard rate during incubation period. By means of the maximum entropy principle, the moments of the period from onset to death, the period from onset to recovery and the incubation period are fused to infer the most probable death rate, incidence rate and healing rate. Applying the maximum-entropy based statistical inference, the information of macroscopic transmission process is fused, such as average values, fluctuations and median values. To the best of our knowledge, the traditional fitting approaches to determine parameters usually rely on the information of macroscopic phenomenon. It is different from these fitting approaches that the maximum-entropy based approach applied in this study relies on the information of microscopic process. Thus this approach is adapted to practice scenario where the limitations of information access and number of samples both exist. And the parameter determination is independent on the choice of the macroscopic epidemic disease dynamic model. After applying the maximum entropy principle based inference and the SEIR (susceptible-infective-exposed-removed) model, several discussions associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are made. With the help of recent information of microscopic transmission process, the parameters in SEIR model are determined directly by the maximum-entropy principle. Then with numerical calculation, dynamics of the populations in infective class, resistance class and exposed class are obtained. Besides, some typical phenomena are revealed by the analytical and numerical results. For example, the calculation shows that the peak of the infectious ratio in transmission process is unique; the infectious ratio of steady state tends to zero when the immunity duration is much larger than the healing period. Additionally, limited immunity duration model is also considered. The relationship between the infectious ratio of steady state and the proportion of immunization duration to healing period is presented.

We explore the spatial enantioseparation of gaseous chiral molecules for the cyclic three-level systems coupled with three electromagnetic fields. Due to molecular rotations, the specific requirements of the polarization directions of the three electromagnetic fields lead to the space-dependent part of the overall phase of the coupling strengths. Thus, the overall phase of the coupling strengths, which differs with $\pi$ for the enantiomers in the cyclic three-level model of chiral molecules, varies intensely in the length scale of the typical wavelength of the applied electromagnetic fields. Under the induced gauge potentials resulting from the space-dependent part of the overall phase and the space-dependent intensities of coupling strengths, we further show spatial enantioseparation for typical parameters of gaseous chiral molecules., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

We systematically study the work statistics for quantum phase transition. For a quantum system approached by an anisotropic conformal field theory near the critical point, the driving protocol is divided into three different regimes for different quench rates, which reflects the competition between the frozen time and the quench timescale. In each regime, we find universal scaling behaviors in work statistics (after renormalization). It is shown that the critical exponents are determined by the space-time dimension $d$, the dynamical critical exponent $z$, the correlation-length exponent $\ensuremath{\nu}$, and the power-law protocols. These universal scalings in nonequilibrium processes may be found in quantum phase transition by measuring the Loschmidt echo or the Ramsey interferometry.

Inside a closed many-body system undergoing the unitary evolution, a small partition of the whole system exhibits a local relaxation. If the total degrees of freedom of the whole system is a large but finite number, such a local relaxation would come across a recurrence after a certain time, namely, the dynamics of the local system suddenly appear random after a well-ordered oscillatory decay process. It is found in this paper, for a collection of $N$ two-level systems (TLSs), the local relaxation of one TLS within has a hierarchy structure hiding in the randomness after such a recurrence: similar recurrences appear in a periodical way, and the later recurrence brings in stronger randomness than the previous one. Both analytical and numerical results that we obtained well explains such hierarchy recurrences: the population of the local TLS (as an open system) diffuses out and regathers back periodically due the finite-size effect of the bath [the remaining $(N-1)$ TLSs]. We also find that the total correlation entropy, which sums up the entropy of all the $N$ TLSs, approximately exhibit a monotonic increase; in contrast, the entropy of each single TLS increases and decreases from time to time, and the entropy of the whole $N$-body system keeps constant during the unitary evolution., 5 pages, 3 figures, comments are welcome

The degradation and recovery processes are multi-scale phenomena in many physical, engineering, biological, and social systems, and determine the aging of the entire system. Therefore, understanding the interplay between the two processes at the component level is the key to evaluate the reliability of the system. Based on the principle of maximum entropy, an approach is proposed to model and infer the processes at the component level, and is applied to repairable and non-repairable systems. By incorporating the reliability block diagram, this approach allows for integrating the information of network connectivity and statistical moments to infer the hazard or recovery rates of the degradation or recovery processes. The overall approach is demonstrated with numerical examples.

Various coarse-grained models have been proposed to study the spreading dynamics in the network. A microscopic theory is needed to connect the spreading dynamics with the individual behaviors. In this letter, we unify the description of different spreading dynamics on complex networks by decomposing the microscopic dynamics into two basic processes, the aging process and the contact process. A microscopic dynamical equation is derived to describe the dynamics of individual nodes on the network. The hierarchy of a duration coarse-grained (DCG) approach is obtained to study duration-dependent processes, where the transition rates depend on the duration of an individual node on a state. Applied to the epidemic spreading, such formalism is feasible to reproduce different epidemic models, e.g., the susceptible-infected-recovered and the susceptible-infected-susceptible models, and to associate with the corresponding macroscopic spreading parameters with the microscopic transition rate. The DCG approach enables us to obtain the steady state of the general SIS model with arbitrary duration-dependent recovery and infection rates. Ultrastrong optomechanical interaction is a significant element for the study of the fundamentals and applications of optomechanical physics, but its realization remains a big challenge in the field of optomechanics. In this work, we propose a reliable scheme to realize a generalized ultrastrong optomechanical-like coupling in a cross-Kerr-type coupled two-bosonic-mode system, in which one of the two bosonic modes is strongly driven. The generalized optomechanical-like interaction takes the form of a product of the excitation number operator of one mode and the rotated quadrature operator of the other mode. Here, both the coupling strength and the phase angle of the rotated quadrature operator are tunable via the driving field. The optomechanical-like coupling can be strongly enhanced to enter the ultrastrong-coupling regime, where the few-photon optomechanical effects such as photon blockade and macroscopic quantum superposition become accessible. The controllability of the quadrature phase angle provides a new degree of freedom for the manipulation of optomechanical systems and enables the implementation of geometric quantum operations. We also present some discussions on the experimental implementation of this scheme. This study will pave the way to the study of quantum physics and quantum technology at the few-photon level in optomechanical systems.

Quantum walk (QW), which is considered as the quantum counterpart of the classical random walk (CRW), is actually the quantum extension of CRW from the single-coin interpretation. The sequential unitary evolution engenders correlation between different steps in QW and leads to a ballistic position distribution. In this paper, we propose an alternative quantum extension of CRW from the ensemble interpretation, named quantum random walk (QRW), where the walker has many unrelated coins, modeled as two-level systems, initially prepared in the same state. We calculate the walker's position distribution in QRW for different initial coin states with the coin operator chosen as Hadamard matrix. In one-dimensional case, the walker's position is the asymmetric binomial distribution. We further demonstrate that in QRW, coherence leads the walker to perform directional movement. For an initially decoherenced coin state, the walker's position distribution is exactly the same as that of CRW. The aging process is a common phenomenon in engineering, biological, and physical systems. The hazard rate function, which characterizes the aging process, is a fundamental quantity in the disciplines of reliability, failure, and risk analysis. However, it is difficult to determine the entire hazard function accurately with limited observation data when the degradation mechanism is not fully understood. Inspired by the seminal work pioneered by Jaynes [Phys. Rev. 106, 620 (1956)PHRVAO0031-899X10.1103/PhysRev.106.620], this study develops an approach based on the principle of maximum entropy. In particular, the time-dependent hazard rate function can be established using limited observation data in a rational manner. It is shown that the developed approach is capable of constructing and interpreting many typical hazard rate curves observed in practice, such as the bathtub curve, the upside down bathtub, and so on. The developed approach is applied to model a classical single function system and a numerical example is used to demonstrate the method. In addition its extension to a more general multifunction system is presented. Depending on the interaction between different functions of the system, two cases, namely reducible and irreducible, are discussed in detail. A multifunction electrical system is used for demonstration.

State functions play important roles in thermodynamics. Different from the process function, such as the exchanged heat $\delta Q$ and the applied work $\delta W$, the change of the state function can be expressed as an exact differential. We prove here that, for a generic thermodynamic system, only the inverse of the temperature, namely $1/T$, can serve as the integration factor for the exchanged heat $\delta Q$. The uniqueness of the integration factor invalidates any attempt to define other state functions associated with the exchanged heat, and in turn, reveals the incorrectness of defining the entransy $E_{vh}=C_VT^2 /2$ as a state function by treating $T$ as an integration factor. As an analogy of best separable approximation (BSA) in the framework of entanglement theory, here we concentrate on the notion of best incoherent approximation, with application to characterizing and quantifying quantum coherence. From both analytical and numerical perspectives, we have demonstrated that the weight-based coherence measure displays some unusual properties, in sharp contrast to other popular coherence quantifiers. First, by deriving a closed formula for qubit states, we have showed the weight-based coherence measure exhibits a rich (geometrical) structure even in this simplest case. Second, we have identified the existence of mixed maximally coherent states (MMCS) with respect to this coherence measure and discussed the characteristic feature of MMCS in high-dimensional Hilbert spaces. Especially, we present several important families of MMCS by gaining insights from the numerical simulations. Moreover, it is pointed out that some considerations in this work can be generalized to general convex resource theories and a numerical method of improving the computational efficiency for finding the BSA is also discussed., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

It has been shown that the nonthermal spectrum of Hawking radiation will lead to information-carrying correlations between emitted particles in the radiation. The mutual information carried by such correlations can not be locally observed and hence is dark. With dark information, the black hole information is conserved. In this paper, we look for the spherically symmetric black hole solution in a $λφ$ fluid model and investigate the radiation spectrum and dark information of the black hole. The spacetime structure of this black hole is similar to that of the Schwarzschild one, while its horizon radius is decreased by the $λφ$ fluid. By using the statistical mechanical method, the nonthermal radiation spectrum is calculated. This radiation spectrum is very different from the Schwarzschild case at its last stage because of the effect of the $λφ$ fluid. The $λφ$ fluid reduces the lifetime of the black hole, but increases the dark information of the Hawking radiation., 12 pages, 6 figures

The study presents a new method to model the degradation and reliability of multi-function complex systems using the hazard rate matrix and Markovian approximation. The system is hierarchically decomposed into a set of states according to the states of its functions, and the hazard rate matrix is proposed to describe the failure rates of the functions. By using Markovian approximation, the elements of the hazard rate matrix can be expressed as a set of dynamical equations involving the failure information about the functions. Consequently, the dynamical behavior of the degradation for the whole system and its functions can be determined using the observed failure data of those functions instead of the lifetime data of the whole system, eliminating the need for lifetime testing data of the whole system in statistical-based reliability assessment. The overall method is illustrated using an example problem, and is further applied to a power system degradation problem to demonstrate its usage in realistic engineering applications.

We study the properties of atom-photon bound states and single-photon cooperative dynamics in a waveguide system which consists of a finite-bandwidth channel with model dispersion and an ensemble of two-level atoms whose size is ignorable when compared with the lattice constant. The bound states are formed by all atoms and a localized photonic excitation. We find that the effect of atomic collection is equivalent to the case of one atom by rescaling the coupling strength with the square root of the atom number, as far as the eigenenergy equation is concerned. Besides, it is found there is a quantum phase transition when more than one type of atom are present. The characteristic lengths and wave functions are analyzed near the phase transition point. The exact analytical results for the cooperative dynamics at the single excitation level are obtained and we point out the dark state in this system leads to a universal population trapping in the time evolution process. This type of trapping obeys a simple law that is only associated with the atom number. A direct conclusion that results from the trapping law is that the single-photon cooperative emission is suppressed when the number of atoms is large enough.

The "lost" information of black hole through the Hawking radiation was discovered being stored in the correlation among the non-thermally radiated particles [Phys. Rev. Lett 85, 5042 (2000), Phys. Lett. B 675, 1 (2009)]. This correlation information, which has not yet been proved locally observable in principle, is named by dark information. In this paper, we systematically study the influences of dark energy on black hole radiation, especially on the dark information. Calculating the radiation spectrum in the existence of dark energy by the approach of canonical typicality, which is reconfirmed by the quantum tunneling method, we find that the dark energy will effectively lower the Hawking temperature, and thus makes the black hole has longer life time. It is also discovered that the non-thermal effect of the black hole radiation is enhanced by dark energy so that the dark information of the radiation is increased. Our observation shows that, besides the mechanical effect (e.g., gravitational lensing effect), the dark energy rises the the stored dark information, which could be probed by a non-local coincidence measurement similar to the coincidence counting of the Hanbury-Brown -Twiss experiment in quantum optics., Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, complete journal-info of Ref.[4] is added, comments are welcome (yhma@csrc.ac.cn)

The objectivity is a basic requirement for the measurements in the classical world, namely, different observers must reach a consensus on their measurement results, so that they believe that the object exists "objectively" since whoever measures it obtains the same result. We find that this simple requirement of objectivity indeed imposes an important constraint upon quantum measurements, i.e., if two or more observers could reach a consensus on their quantum measurement results, their measurement basis must be orthogonal vector sets. This naturally explains why quantum measurements are based on orthogonal vector basis, which is proposed as one of the axioms in textbooks of quantum mechanics. The role of the macroscopicality of the observers in an objective measurement is discussed, which supports the belief that macroscopicality is a characteristic of classicality., 9 pages

Phonon-mediated motion transfer plays an essential role in scalable phononic devices. We present geometric motion transfer between two mechanical resonators, which are indirectly coupled by parametrically coupling to the same intermediate mechanical mode. The phonon-mediated coupling is controlled so that the intermediate mode remains unoccupied after the system undergoes a cyclic evolution. Pure geometric motion transfer between the indirectly coupled mechanical resonators is achieved experimentally through a controlling motion evolution path in the Hilbert space. Because the geometric phase is robust against local fluctuation of the evolution path, our research provides a prospective scenario for noise-resilient phonon-based information processing.

This study presents a general framework for probabilistic information fusion with point, moment, and interval data based on the principle of maximum relative entropy. Two types of interval information, namely, the independent interval and the correlated interval, are naturally incorporated in this framework for probability inference. The relative entropy is alternatively expressed using the hazard rate functions associated with the distributions. The probabilistic information fusion problem is recast into a hazard rate dynamics problem, which is solved using Euler-Lagrange method with point, moment, and interval data as boundary conditions. It provides a novel perspective on probabilistic information fusion such that the fusion mechanism is to seek an optimal hazard rate function in the functional space achieving the least action which is expressed as the relative information entropy. The geometry interpretation of the information fusion with point, moment, and interval data, and the effect of processing sequence are signified. An electronic component reliability problem is used to illustrate the basic idea of the method, followed by a fatigue reliability assessment problem demonstrating the overall method. The effectiveness of the method using limited samples and implicit interval information is emphasized using an aeroengine disk lifing application with a risk requirement in airworthiness.

As an analogy of fully entangled fraction in the framework of entanglement theory, we have introduced the notion of quantum coherence fraction $C_{\mathcal{F}}$, which quantifies the closeness between a given state and the set of maximally coherent states. By providing an alternative formulation of the robustness of coherence $C_{\mathcal{R}}$, we have elucidated the relationship between quantum coherence fraction and the normalized version of $C_{\mathcal{R}}$ (i.e., $\overline{C}_{\mathcal{R}}$), where the role of genuinely incoherent operations (GIO) is highlighted. Numerical simulation shows that though as expected $C_{\mathcal{F}}$ is upper bounded by $\overline{C}_{\mathcal{R}}$, $C_{\mathcal{F}}$ constitutes a good approximation to $\overline{C}_{\mathcal{R}}$ especially in low-dimensional Hilbert spaces. Even more intriguingly, we can analytically prove that $C_{\mathcal{F}}$ is exactly equivalent to $\overline{C}_{\mathcal{R}}$ for qubit and qutrit states. To optimize the performance of a heat engine in finite-time cycle, it is important to understand the finite-time effect of thermodynamic processes. Previously, we have shown that extra work is needed to complete a quantum adiabatic process in finite time, and proved that the extra work follows a \mathcal{C}/\tau^{2} scaling for long control time \tau. There the oscillating part of the extra work is neglected due to the complex energy-level structure of the particular quantum system. However, such oscillation of the extra work can not be neglected in some quantum systems with simple energy-level structure, e. g. the two-level system or the quantum harmonic oscillator. In this paper, we build the finite-time quantum Otto engine on these simple systems, and find that the oscillating extra work leads to a jagged edge in the constraint relation between the output power and the efficiency. By optimizing the control time of the quantum adiabatic processes, the oscillation in the extra work is utilized to enhance the maximum power and the efficiency. We further design special control schemes with the zero extra work at the specific control time. Compared to the linear control scheme, these special control schemes of the finite-time adiabatic process improve the maximum power and the efficiency of the finite-time Otto engine., Comment: 11 pages

We study the energy structure and dynamics of a V-type three-level emitter embedded in a one-dimensional waveguide with model dispersion. Due to the presence of two different couplings between the upper levels and the waveguide modes, we find that the bound states in this system are quite different from the case of a two-level emitter. The energy structure is dependent on the relative position of the emitter's transition frequencies from the band with finite width. We obtain the phase diagrams through numerical analysis. The dynamics of spontaneous emission of the system is calculated exactly in the general case by means of the Green's function approach. The emitted photon is characterized by two components: a localized part and a traveling part, and the average frequency of the traveling part is different from that for resonant scattering. Through the quantum interference between the emitter's two transitions, it is found that the total excitation number of the localized photon and emitter can be greatly enhanced in some case in the spontaneous-emission process.

The optimization of finite-time thermodynamic heat engines was intensively explored recently, yet limited to few cycles, e.g. finite-time Carnot-like cycle. In this paper, we supplement a new type of finite-time engine with quantum Otto cycle and show the better performance. The current model can be widely utilized benefited from the general \mathcal{C}/\tau^{2} scaling of extra work for finite-time adiabatic process with long control time \tau. Such scaling allows analytical optimization of the generic finite-time quantum Otto cycle to surpass the efficiency at maximum power for the Carnot-like engine. We apply the current perturbation method to the quantum piston model and calculate the efficiency at maximum power, which is validated with exact solution., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

Geometric phase, which is acquired after a system undergoing cyclic evolution in the Hilbert space, is believed to be noise-resilient because it depends only on the global properties of the evolution path. Here, we report geometric control of energy transfer between two parametrically coupled mechanical modes in an optomechanical system. The parametric pump is controlled along a closed loop to implement geometric St\"uckelberg interferometry of mechanical motion, in which the dynamical phase is eliminated using the Hahn-echo technique. We demonstrate that the interference based solely on the geometric phase is robust against certain noises. And, more remarkably, we show that the all-geometric approach can achieve a high energy-transfer rate that is comparable to those using conventional dynamical protocols.

Single-photon cooperative dynamics of an assembly of two-level quantum emitters coupled by a bosonic bath are investigated. The bosonic bath is general and it can be anything as long as the exchange of excitations between quantum emitters and bath is present. In these systems, it is found that the population on the excited emitter keeps a simple and universal trapping law due to the existence of system's dark states. Different from the trapping regime caused by photonemitter dressed states, this type of trapping is only associated with the number of quantum emitters. According to the trapping law, the cooperative spontaneous emission at single-photon level in this kind of systems is universally inhibited when the emitter number is large enough., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

We investigate the measurement uncertainties of a triple of positive operator-valued measures (POVMs) based on statistical distance, and formulate state-independent tight uncertainty inequalities satisfied by the three measurements in terms of triple-wise joint measurability. Particularly, uncertainty inequalities for three unbiased qubit measurements are presented with analytical lower bounds which relates to the necessary and sufficient condition of the triple-wise joint measurability of the given triple. We show that the measurement uncertainties for a triple measurement are essentially different from the ones obtained by pair wise measurement uncertainties by comparing the lower bounds of different measurement uncertainties., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

We present coherent phonon-mediated dynamics for addressable motion transfer in a scalable mechanical transducer consisting of three nearest-neighboring coupled micro-cantilevers. To connect two distant cantilevers without direct interaction, two parametric pumps are applied to couple the cantilevers to an intermediate mechanical mode simultaneously. We demonstrate that the distant cantilevers can be coherently coupled even when the intermediate mode is effectively decoupled as a result of two-pump on-resonance coupling. The phonon-mediated coupling is controlled for long-range transferring of both iterating and intra-mode motions while avoid unwanted exciting of the intermediate mode.

We show that, assisted by the Peierls transition of lattice, as a quasi-one dimensional (Q1D) tight binding system, a Mobius molecular device can behave as a simple topological insulator. With the Peierls phase transition to form a domain wall, the solitonary zero modes exist as the ground state of this electron-phonon hybrid system, which is protected by the Z2 topology of the Mobius strip. The robustness of the ground state prevents these degenerate zero modes from their energy spectrum splitting caused by any perturbation.

The symmetries play important roles in physical systems. We study the symmetries of a Hamiltonian system by investigating the asymmetry of the Hamiltonian with respect to certain algebras. We define the asymmetry of an operator with respect to an algebraic basis in terms of their commutators. Detailed analysis is given to the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ and its $q$-deformation. The asymmetry of the $q$-deformed integrable spin chain models is calculated. The corresponding geometrical pictures with respect to such asymmetry is presented., 6 pages

We scheme how to enhance the detection ability of quantum target recognition without using entanglement resources. Based on the commonly used error-correcting codes and corresponding decoding method, our scheme gives lower error probability and higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in comparison with the conventional entanglement protocols. In addition, we further investigate the interplay between the SNR and the detection efficiency in quantum target recognition. Results show that, they behave a completely reverse trend when increasing the auxiliary dimension. This is an important limiting factor when optimizing the detection process. Under the existing experimental conditions, our protocol has stronger ability to resist environmental noise when keeping a certain SNR and detection efficiency. Our scheme provides a potential platform for further research and implementation of quantum target recognition.

The engineering of quantum devices has reached the stage where we now have small-scale quantum processors containing multiple interacting qubits within them. Simple quantum circuits have been demonstrated and scaling up to larger numbers is underway. However, as the number of qubits in these processors increases, it becomes challenging to implement switchable or tunable coherent coupling among them. The typical approach has been to detune each qubit from others or the quantum bus it connected to, but as the number of qubits increases this becomes problematic to achieve in practice due to frequency crowding issues. Here, we demonstrate that by applying a fast longitudinal control field to the target qubit, we can turn off its couplings to other qubits or buses. This has important implications in superconducting circuits as it means we can keep the qubits at their optimal points, where the coherence properties are greatest, during coupling/decoupling process. Our approach suggests another way to control coupling among qubits and data buses that can be naturally scaled up to large quantum processors. A method for switching on/off the coupling between quantum elements could assist in the scaling up of quantum circuits. Demonstrations of small-scale quantum processes made using multiple interacting quantum bits (qubits) is an important step towards the development of quantum computers. Scaling up the number of qubits to enable large-scale quantum processes is challenging, however, as it becomes difficult to control the couplings between them whilst maintaining their desirable properties. An international collaboration led by Xiaobo Zhu from the University of Science and Technology of China now demonstrate a simple approach for switching on and off the coupling between quantum elements. Such a protocol should enable qubits to be kept at their optimal conditions during (de)coupling processes, which could help in the development of large-scale quantum circuits.

The constraint relation for efficiency and power is crucial to design optimal heat engines operating within finite time. We find a universal constraint between efficiency and output power for heat engines operating in the low-dissipation regime. Such constraint is validated with an example of Carnot-like engine. Its microscopic dynamics is governed by the master equation. Based on the master equation, we connect the microscopic coupling strengths to the generic parameters in the phenomenological model. We find the usual assumption of low-dissipation is achieved when the coupling to thermal environments is stronger than the driving speed. The efficiency at maximum power has been investigated extensively, yet the practical control scheme to achieve it remains elusive. We fill such gap with a stepwise Carnot-like cycle, which consists the discrete isothermal process (DIP) and adiabatic process. With DIP, we validate the widely adopted assumption of \mathscr{C}/t relation of the irreversible entropy generation S^{(\mathrm{ir})}, and show the explicit dependence of the coefficient \mathscr{C} on the fluctuation of the speed of tuning energy levels as well as the microscopic coupling constants to the heat baths. Such dependence allows to control the irreversible entropy generation by choosing specific control schemes. We further demonstrate the achievable efficiency at maximum power and the corresponding control scheme with the simple two-level system. We present a coherent switch for motion transduction based on dynamically localized mechanical modes in an optomechanical system consisting of two coupled cantilevers. By placing one of the cantilevers inside a harmonically oscillating optical trap, the effective coupling strength between the degenerate cantilevers can be tuned experimentally. In particular, when the coupling is turned off, we show that mechanical motion becomes tightly bounded to the isolated cantilevers rather than propagating away as a result of destructive Landau-Zener-Stuckelberg-like interference. The effect of dynamical localization is adopted to implement a coherent switch, through which the tunneling oscillation is turned on and off with well-preserved phase coherence. We provide a simple yet efficient approach for full control of the coupling between mechanical resonators, which is highly desirable for coherent control of transport phenomena in a coupled-mechanical-resonator array.

We study the spontaneous decoherence of coupled harmonic oscillators confined in a ring container, where the nearest-neighbor harmonic potentials are taken into consideration. Without any external symmetry-breaking field or surrounding environment, the quantum superposition state prepared in the relative degrees of freedom gradually loses its quantum coherence spontaneously. This spontaneous decoherence is interpreted by the gauge couplings between the center-of-mass and the relative degrees of freedoms, which actually originate from the symmetries of the ring geometry and the corresponding nontrivial boundary conditions. In particular, such spontaneous decoherence does not occur at all at the thermodynamic limit because the nontrivial boundary conditions become the trivial Born-von Karman boundary conditions when the perimeter of the ring container tends to infinity. Our investigation shows that a thermal macroscopic object with certain symmetries has a chance for its quantum properties to degrade even without applying an external symmetry-breaking field or surrounding environment.

Quantum heat engine with ideal gas has been well studied, yet the role of interaction was seldom explored. We construct a quantum Otto heat engine with N repulsive Bosonic particles in a 1D hard wall box. With the advantage of exact solution using Bethe Ansatz, we obtain not only the exact numerical result of efficiency in all interacting strength c, but also analytical results for strong interaction. We find the efficiency \eta recovers to the one of non-interacting case $\eta_{\mathrm{non}}=1-(L_{1}/L_{2})^{2}$ for strong interaction with asympotic behavior $\eta\sim\eta_{\mathrm{non}}-4(N-1)L_{1}\left(L_{2}-L_{1}\right)/(cL_{2}^{3})$. Here, $L_{1}$ and $L_{2}$ are two trap sizes during the cycle. Such recovery reflects the duality between 1D strongly repulsive Bosons and free Fermion. We observe and explain the appearance of a minimum efficiency at a particular interacting strength c, and study its dependence on the temperature., Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures

We study the Hawking radiation of black holes by considering the canonical typicality. For the universe consisting of black holes and their outer part, we directly obtain a non-thermal radiation spectrum of an arbitrary black hole from its entropy, which only depends on a few external qualities (known as hairs), such as mass, charge, and angular momentum. Our result shows that the spectrum of the non-thermal radiation is independent of the detailed quantum tunneling dynamics across black hole horizon. We study a transverse-field Ising model (TFIM) in a rotational reference frame. We find that the effective Hamiltonian of the TFIM of this system depends on the system's rotation velocity. Since the rotation contributes an additional transverse field, the dynamics of TFIM sensitively responses to the rotation velocity at the critical point of quantum phase transition. This observation means that the TFIM can be used for quantum sensing of rotation velocity that can sensitively detect rotation velocity of the total system at the critical point. It is found that the resolution of the quantum sensing scheme we proposed is characterized by the half-width of Loschmidt echo of the dynamics of TFIM when it couples to a quantum system S. And the resolution of this quantum sensing scheme is proportional to the coupling strength \delta between the quantum system S and the TFIM, and to the square root of the number of spins N belonging the TFIM., Comment: 6 pages,6 figures

With the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model as an illustration, we construct a thermodynamic cycle composed of two isothermal processes and two isomagnetic field processes and study the thermodynamic performance of this cycle accompanied by the quantum phase transition (QPT). We find that for a finite particle system working below the critical temperature, the efficiency of the cycle is capable of approaching the Carnot limit when the external magnetic field \lambda_{1} corresponding to one of the isomagnetic processes reaches the crosspoint of the ground states' energy level, which can become critical point of the QPT in large N limit. Our analysis proves that the system's energy level crossings at low temperature limits can lead to significant efficiency improvement of the quantum heat engine. In the case of the thermodynamics limit, analytical partition function is obtained to study the efficiency of the cycle at high and low temperature limits. At low temperatures, when the magnetic fields of the isothermal processes are located on both sides of the critical point of the QPT, the cycle obtains the maximum efficiency and the Carnot efficiency can be achieved. This observation demonstrate that the QPT of the LMG model below critical temperature is beneficial to the thermodynamic cycle's operation., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

AbsractSymmetry degree is utilized to characterize the asymmetry of a physical system with respect to a symmetry group. The scalar form of symmetry degree (SSD) based on Frobenius-norm has been introduced recently to present a quantitative description of symmetry. Here we present the vector form of the symmetry degree (VSD) which possesses more advantages than the SSD. Mathematically, the dimension of VSD is defined as the conjugacy class number of the symmetry group, the square length of the VSD gives rise to the SSD and the direction of VSD is determined by the orders of the conjugacy classes. The merits of applying VSD both for finite and infinite symmetry groups include the additional information of broken symmetry operators with single symmetry breaking perturbation, and the capability of distinguishing distinct symmetry breaking perturbations which exactly give rise to degenerate SSD. Additionally, the VSD for physical systems under symmetry breaking perturbations can be regarded as a projection of the initial VSD without any symmetry breaking perturbations, which can be described by an evolution equation. There are the same advantages by applying VSD for the accidental degeneracy and spontaneous symmetry breaking.

We investigate the behavior of the maximal violations of the CHSH inequality and V$\grave{e}$rtesi's inequality under the local filtering operations. An analytical method has been presented for general two-qubit systems to compute the maximal violation of the CHSH inequality and the lower bound of the maximal violation of V$\acute{e}$rtesi's inequality over the local filtering operations. We show by examples that there exist quantum states whose non-locality can be revealed after local filtering operation by the V$\acute{e}$rtesi's inequality instead of the CHSH inequality., 12 pages, 2 figures
