Abstract Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a well-known complication of congenital heart disease (CHD). The lack of a satisfactory animal model for PAH associated with CHD (PAH-CHD) has limited progress in understanding the pathogenesis of PAH and the development of therapeutic agents. Abstract Background Tongoloa is a genus comprising approximately 20 species, primarily distributed in the mountainous regions of southwest China. The insufficiency of specimen materials and morphological similarities among species render it a taxonomically challenging genus within the Apiaceae family. To elucidate the phylogenetic relationships and taxonomy of Chinese Tongoloa, this study utilized a total of 115 nrITS sequences, including 47 recently obtained sequences, for phylogenetic reconstruction. Results Phylogenetic relationships reconstructed from ITS sequences indicate that the East Asia Clade and the Komarovia Clade are sister groups, and Tongoloa belongs to the East Asia Clade. Species of Tongoloa are subdivided into 3 distinct groups, all sharing similar fruit morphologies and are clearly differentiated from related taxa. Several Tongoloa-like members classified under other genera are interpreted to be closely related to Tongoloa. Morphological and molecular data indicate that Tongoloa, Sinolimprichtia subclade and Chinese Trachydium subclade are separate yet genetically contiguous taxa. It is confirmed that Tongoloa zhongdianensis belongs to the Hymenidium Clade, while Sinocarum is classified within the Acronema Clade. Two new taxa are found in the Hengduan Mountains. Conclusion Tongoloa is a genus within the East Asia Clade of Apiaceae, and the phylogeny reconstructed based on ITS sequences divides it into 3 main groups. By integrating fruit morphology and molecular phylogenetic analyses, we preliminary clarified the intricate taxonomic relationships among Tongoloa and related taxa. These results provide valuable opportunities for a deeper understanding of the phylogeny of Tongoloa.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the relationships between prenatal PM2.5 exposure and childhood growth trajectories during the first 6 years of life. A total of 47,625 pairs of mothers and children were recruited from a prospective birth cohort conducted between 2011 and 2013 in Wuhan, China, and followed for 6 years. We used the group-based trajectory models to classify the population into three trajectory groups: slow growth (n = 13,671, 28.7%), normal growth (n = 29,736, 62.4%), and rapid growth (n = 4218, 8.9%). Multinomial logistic regression models were used to determine the associations of prenatal PM2.5 exposure and childhood growth trajectories. Compared to normal growth trajectory, increased PM2.5 exposure in trimester 1, trimester 2 and the entire pregnancy showed significant associations with an increased risk of the slow growth trajectory but reduced the risk for the rapid growth trajectory, significant association of prenatal PM2.5 exposure with rapid growth trajectory was only observed in the trimester 3. Stratified analyses displayed relatively stronger associations among those mothers with maternal age over 35 years, pre-pregnancy BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, and previous delivery experience. Prenatal exposure to PM2.5, particularly during the midpoint period of pregnancy, was more likely to have a slow growth trajectory and a lower risk of rapid growth trajectory. Maternal age, pre-pregnancy BMI, and previous delivery experience might modify these associations.

Gastric cancer is a significant health concern worldwide. Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is associated with gastric cancer risk, but differences between HP-infected and HP-free gastric cancer have not been studied sufficiently. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of HP infection on the viability and migration of gastric cancer cells and identify potential underlying genetic mechanisms as well as their clinical relevance. Cell counting kit-8, lactate dehydrogenase, wound healing, and transwell assay were applied in the infection model of multiple clones of HP and multiple gastric cancer cell lines. Genes related to HP infection were identified using bioinformatics analysis and subsequently validated using real-time quantitative PCR. The association of these genes with immunity and drug sensitivity of gastric cancer was analyzed. Results showed that HP has no significant impact on viability but increases the migration of gastric cancer cells. We identified 1405 HP-upregulated genes, with their enriched terms relating to cell migration, drug, and immunity. Among these genes, the 82 genes associated with survival showed a significant impact on gastric cancer in consensus clustering and LASSO prognostic model. The top 10 hub HP-associated genes were further identified, and 7 of them were validated in HP-infected cells using real-time quantitative PCR, including ERBB4, DNER, BRINP2, KCTD16, MAPK4, THPO, and VSTM2L. The overexpression experiment showed that KCTD16 medicated the effect of HP on gastric cancer migration. Our findings suggest that HP infection may enhance the migratory potential of gastric cancer cells and these genes might be associated with immunity and drug sensitivity of gastric cancer. In human subjects with gastric cancer, HP presence in tumors may affect migration, immunity, and drug sensitivity.

BackgroundHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is thought to primarily colonize the human stomach and lead to various gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastritis and gastric cancer. Currently, main eradication treatment is triple or quadruple therapy centered on antibiotics. Due to antibiotic resistance, the eradication rate of H. pylori is decreasing gradually. Therefore, searching for anti-H. pylori drugs from herbal sources has become a strategy for the treatment. Our team proposed a Hezi Qingyou Formula (HZQYF), composed of Chebulae Fructus, Ficus hirta Vahl and Cloves, and studied its anti-H. pylori activity and mechanism.MethodsChemical components of HZQYF were studied using UHPLC–MS/MS and HPLC. Broth microdilution method and agar dilution method were used to evaluate HZQYF’s antibacterial activity. The effects of HZQYF on expression of adhesion genes (alpA, alpB, babA), urease genes (ureE, ureF), and flagellar genes (flaA, flaB) were explored using Reverse Transcription-quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) technology. Effects on morphology and permeability of the extracellular membrane were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and N-phenylnaphthalen-1-amine (NPN) uptake. Effect on urease activity was studied using a urease kinetics analysis in vitro. Immunofluorescence staining method was used to examine the effect on adhesion. Western blot was used to examine the effect on cagA protein.ResultsMinimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the formula against H. pylori clinical strains and standard strains were 80–160 μg/mL, and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values were 160–320 μg/mL. The formula could down-regulate the expression of adhesion genes (alpA, alpB, babA), urease genes (ureE, ureF) and flagellar genes (flaA, flaB), change the morphology of H. pylori, increase its extracellular membrane permeability, and decrease its urease activity.ConclusionPresent studies confirmed that HZQYF had promising in vitro anti-H. pylori activities and demonstrated its possible mechanism of action by down-regulating the bacterial adhesion, urease, and flagellar gene expression, which provided scientific bases for further clinical investigations.

BackgroundSuicide is a fatal public health issue for adolescents, and it is of great significance to explore the precursors of suicidal behaviors, especially suicidal ideation. However, the relationship between social anxiety and suicidal ideation and its mechanism are still unclear. The study aims to examine the association between social anxiety and suicidal ideation and the mediating effect through Internet addiction.MethodsA total of 2,278 middle-school students aged 12 to 16 years were recruited through a multistage cluster sampling method in this cross-sectional study. Logistical regression analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) were conducted to examine the direct and indirect effects of social anxiety.ResultsDuring the past year, 262 (11.50%) participants reported suicidal ideation. Females had a higher prevalence of suicidal ideation than males (12.9% vs. 10.0%, p = 0.034), and urban adolescents reported a higher prevalence than their rural counterparts (13.4% vs. 9.6%, p = 0.006). Understanding soil phosphorus (P) distribution and its key drivers is fundamental for sustainable P management. In this study, a 21-year fertilization experiment on black soil was carried out, setting up five fertilization treatments: unfertilized control (CK), nitrogen and potassium (NK), nitrogen, P and potassium (NPK), NPK plus straw (NPKS), and NPK plus manure (NPKM). The distribution and effecting factors of P pools within soil aggregates were investigated. Compared to CK, the NK and NPK treatments decreased calcium-associated P concentration in all aggregate fractions. Meanwhile, the NPK treatment significantly increased the organic P extracted from NaOH in unaggregated particles (3, and NaOH increased as aggregate size increased. This was mainly because straw or manure addition promoted soil organic carbon (SOC) storage in aggregates, creating more sorption sites via association with amorphous metallic minerals, and, thus, facilitating P accumulation. In conclusion, decreasing soil pH by chemical fertilizers is an effective strategy for mobilizing soil P, whereas increasing SOC by straw or manure facilitates P accumulation.

To further improve the performance of distance protection in renewable energy systems, a distance protection method is proposed, which considers the effects of control system and the distributed capacitance effect of the line. When an asymmetric fault occurs in the system, combined with the control characteristics of the converter, the sequence impedance characteristics of the grid and the pure resistive feature of the fault resistance, three unknowns in the fault loop equation can be eliminated, and the solution of the fault distance can be solved in the R-L model. Then, the setting point is set based on the calculation results in the R-L model, and the real electrical quantity at the setting point can be deduced by the calculation formula in Bergeron model. Finally, the equation from the setting point to the fault point is simultaneously solved to reduce the distributed capacitance effect on the distance protection. The simulation results testify that the method is less influenced by the fault features of the converter and fault resistance. It still has good performance in long line.

The aim of this study was to explore whether azithromycin (AZM) attenuates post-inflammatory wheezing through inhibiting hypermethylation of histone H3K27me3 mediated by EZH2. 1,3,6-Trigalloylglucose is a natural compound that can be extracted from the aqueous extracts of ripe fruit of Terminalia chebula Retz, commonly known as “Haritaki”. The potential anti-Helicobacter pylori (HP) activity of this compound has not been extensively studied or confirmed in scientific research. This compound was isolated using a semi-preparative liquid chromatography (LC) system and identified through Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–MS/MS (UPLC-MS/MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Its role was evaluated using Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assay, scanning electron microscope (SEM), inhibiting kinetics curves, urea fast test, Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, Western blot, and Griess Reagent System. Results showed that this compound effectively inhibits the growth of HP strain ATCC 700392, damages the HP structure, and suppresses the Cytotoxin-associated gene A (Cag A) protein, a crucial factor in HP infection. Importantly, it exhibits selective antimicrobial activity without impacting normal epithelial cells GES-1. In vitro studies have revealed that 1,3,6-Trigalloylglucose acts as an anti-adhesive agent, disrupting the adhesion of HP to host cells, a critical step in HP infection. These findings underscore the potential of 1,3,6-Trigalloylglucose as a targeted therapeutic agent against HP infections.

To address the need for high-resolution imaging in lung nodule detection and overcome the limitations of the shallow imaging depth associated with high-frequency ultrasound and the complex structure of lung tissue, we successfully integrated 50 MHz ultrasound transducers with 18-gauge biopsy needles. Featuring a miniaturized size of 0.6 × 0.5 × 0.5 mm3, the 50 MHz micromachined 1-3 composite transducer was tested to perform mechanical scanning of a nodule within a lung-tissue-mimicking phantom in vitro. The high-frequency transducer demonstrated the ability to achieve imaging with an axial resolution of 30 μm for measuring nodule edges. Moreover, the integrated biopsy needle prototype exhibited high accuracy (1.74% discrepancy) in estimating nodule area compared to actual dimensions in vitro. These results underscore the promising potential of biopsy-needle-integrated transducers in enhancing the accuracy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (EUS-FNA) for clinical applications.

As an activator and alarm signal for tumor innate immune therapy, manganese ions can activate the stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway directly or indirectly. However, due to their high positive charge, manganese ions cannot freely penetrate biological membranes, and it is challenging to target them to the cells. Liposomes have been widely used as an effective drug delivery system. Using metal ions as active carriers to establish a gradient is an effective way to load chemotherapy drugs, but its low delivery efficiency and significant degradation of effective drugs by lysosomes may result in reduced therapeutic effects. In this study, we constructed an active drug-loading liposome (LMD@LA) that enters cells through thiol-mediated endocytosis to encapsulate both the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin and manganese ions to achieve sustained manganese ion release. The combination of chemotherapy-induced immunogenic cell death and innate immune therapy with manganese ions was used to treat tumors. The liposome was able to reverse the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, reduce the resistance of B16F10 and 4T1 tumors to doxorubicin, and decrease the migration and invasion abilities of tumors by binding with lipoic acid.

Previous studies suggested that Syzygium aromaticum dried buds (S. aromaticum), which is an edible and medicinal herb, possess potential effect on innate immunity and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection-related inflammation, but the specific action and especially the molecular mechanism have not been well elucidated. The objective of this work was to further explore the effects of Syzygium aromaticum aqueous extract (AE) on innate immunity and H. pylori related-inflammation, especially the potential molecular mechanisms involved. In order to accomplish this, analyses of the phagocytic rate, NO content, ROS level, as well as ELISA, RT-qPCR, and Western blotting et al. assays were carried out. Results indicated that AE increased phagocytic rate, ROS, and cytokine expression levels, meanwhile activated TLR4/MyD88 mediated NF-κB and MAPK pathways and decreased Nrf2/HO-1 signaling. AE also prevented the release of pro-inflammatory substances made by H. pylori-infected RAW 264.7 and GES-1 cells. All things considered, it was shown that AE's ability to boost innate immunity involves inducing macrophage M1 polarization by increasing TLR4/MyD88-mediated NF-κB and MAPK pathways and blocking Nrf2/HO-1 signaling. Additionally, by lowering the production of pro-inflammatory molecules, AE can lessen the inflammation brought on by H. pylori. Considering that S. aromaticum is an edible herbal medicine with immune-enhancing activity and good safety, it deserves further study and utilization for treating diseases including H. pylori infection-related disorders.

A large number of photovoltaic grid-connected operation will cause the decline of system frequency response performance, and the identification of system time-varying inertia is helpful for photovoltaic to participate in the setting of frequency regulation parameters. In view of this, an optimization strategy of photovoltaic frequency regulation control parameters was proposed by identifying the equivalent inertia and damping. Firstly, based on the equivalent model of photovoltaic grid connected system, the prediction error method (PEM) was used to identify the equivalent inertia and damping of the system. Then, the state space prediction model of frequency response of photovoltaic grid connected system was further established, and the parameters of primary frequency modulation coefficient and virtual inertia coefficient of photovoltaic frequency modulation control were optimized to ensure that the equivalent inertia and damping of the system meet the requirements of system frequency modulation. Finallly, the simulation model of three machines and nine nodes standard system was built based on Matlab / Simulink. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the frequency characteristics of photovoltaic grid-connected system and improve the flexibility of photovoltaic frequency regulation, so that the lowest frequency and the maximum frequency change rate increase by 0.1 Hz and decrease by about 50% compared with the traditional primary frequency regulation.

Abstract Increasing both clean water and green energy demands for survival and development are the grand challenges of our age. Here, we successfully fabricate a novel multifunctional 3D graphene-based catalytic membrane (3D-GCM) with active metal nanoparticles (AMNs) loading for simultaneously obtaining the water purification and clean energy generation, via a “green” one-step laser scribing technology. The as-prepared 3D-GCM shows high porosity and uniform distribution with AMNs, which exhibits high permeated fluxes (over 100 L m−2 h−1) and versatile super-adsorption capacities for the removal of tricky organic pollutants from wastewater under ultra-low pressure-driving (0.1 bar). After adsorption saturating, the AMNs in 3D-GCM actuates the advanced oxidization process to self-clean the fouled membrane via the catalysis, and restores the adsorption capacity well for the next time membrane separation. Most importantly, the 3D-GCM with the welding of laser scribing overcomes the lateral shear force damaging during the long-term separation. Moreover, the 3D-GCM could emit plentiful of hot electrons from AMNs under light irradiation, realizing the membrane catalytic hydrolysis reactions for hydrogen energy generation. This “green” precision manufacturing with laser scribing technology provides a feasible technology to fabricate high-efficient and robust 3D-GCM microreactor in the tricky wastewater purification and sustainable clean energy production as well.

Sanguisorba officinalis L., a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) called DiYu (DY) in China, has a strong tradition of utilization as a scorching, blood-cooling, and hemostatic medication, and was used for cancer prevention and treatment due to its potential immune-enhancing and hematological toxicity-reducing effects. Previous studies have reported significant effects of DY on cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC), which is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The first-line cure 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) plays decisive commerce in the sedative of CRC as a clinically available chemotherapeutic agent. One of the primary causes of cancer treatment failure is the acquisition of chemotherapy drug resistance. In order to successfully combat the emergence of chemoresistance, it is essential to identify herbs or traditional Chinese medicine that have adjuvant therapeutic effects on CRC. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether DY could improve the sensitivity, conquer the chemoresistance of 5-FU-resistant CRC cells, and investigate its intrinsic mechanism. Materials and methods: MTT, Hoechst 33258 staining, and flow cytometry assays were used to determine the anticancer activity of DY alone or in combination with 5-FU against 5-FU-resistant CRC cells (RKO-R and HCT15-R) and wound healing assays were conducted to detect cell migration. Transcriptomic techniques were carried out to explore the effect and mechanism of DY on drug-resistant CRC cells. Western Blot and RT q-PCR assays were performed to validate the mechanism by which DY overcomes drug-resistant CRC cells. Results: These results indicated that DY alone or in combination with 5-FU significantly inhibited the proliferation and the migration of resistant CRC cells, and potentiated the susceptibility of 5-FU to drug-resistant CRC cells. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the mechanisms of drug resistance in CRC cells and DY against drug-resistant CRC cells highly overlapped, involved in the modulation of biological processes such as cell migration, positive regulation of protein binding and cytoskeleton, and MAPK (Ras-ERK-MEK), PI3K/Akt, and other signaling pathways. Moreover, DY can mediate the expression of p-R-Ras, p-ERK1/2, p-MEK1/2, p-PI3K, p-AKT, HIF-1A and VEGFA proteins. In addition, DY significantly suppressed the expression of AKT3, NEDD9, BMI-1, and CXCL1 genes in resistant CRC cells. Conclusion: In conclusion, DY could inhibit the proliferation and migration of 5-FU-resistant cells and strengthen the sensitivity of 5-FU to CRC-resistant cells. Furthermore, DY may prevail over chemoresistance through the Ras/MEK/ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways. These findings imply that DY may be a potential drug for clinical treatment or adjuvant treatment of drug-resistant CRC.

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging has been extensively utilized to visualize atherosclerotic coronary artery diseases and to guide coronary interventions. To receive ultrasound signals within the vessel wall safely and effectively, miniaturized ultrasound transducers that meet the strict size constraints and have a simple manufacturing procedure are highly demanded. In this work, the first known IVUS probe that employs a backing-layer-shared dual-frequency structure and a single coaxial cable is introduced, featuring a small thickness and easy interconnection procedure. The dual-frequency transducer is designed to have center frequencies of 30 MHz and 80 MHz, and both have an aperture size of 0.5 mm × 0.5 mm. The total thickness of the dual-frequency transducer is less than 700 µm. In vitro phantom imaging and ex vivo porcine coronary artery imaging experiments are conducted. The low-frequency transducer achieves spatial resolutions of 40 µm axially and 321 µm laterally, while the high-frequency transducer exhibits axial and lateral resolutions of 17 µm and 247 µm, respectively. A bandpass filter is utilized to separate the ultrasound images. Combining in vitro phantom imaging analysis with ex vivo imaging validation, a comprehensive demonstration of the promising application of the proposed miniature ultrasound probe is established.

Abstract Background The genus Ligusticum belongs to Apiaceae, and its taxonomy has long been a major difficulty. A robust phylogenetic tree is the basis of accurate taxonomic classification of Ligusticum. We herein used 26 (including 14 newly sequenced) plastome-scale data to generate reliable phylogenetic trees to explore the phylogenetic relationships of Chinese Ligusticum. Results We found that these plastid genomes exhibited diverse plastome characteristics across all four currently identified clades in China, while the plastid protein-coding genes were conserved. The phylogenetic analyses by the concatenation and coalescent methods obtained a more robust molecular phylogeny than prior studies and showed the non-monophyly of Chinese Ligusticum. In the concatenation-based phylogeny analyses, the two datasets yielded slightly different topologies that may be primarily due to the discrepancy in the number of variable sites. Conclusions Our plastid phylogenomics analyses emphasized that the current circumscription of the Chinese Ligusticum should be reduced, and the taxonomy of Ligusticum urgently needs revision. Wider taxon sampling including the related species of Ligusticum will be necessary to explore the phylogenetic relationships of this genus. Overall, our study provided new insights into the taxonomic classification of Ligusticum and would serve as a framework for future studies on taxonomy and delimitation of Ligusticum from the perspective of the plastid genome.

Pleurospermum is a taxonomically challenging taxon of Apiaceae, as its circumscription and composition remain controversial for morphological similarities with several related genera, leading to a dispute between Pleurospermum in the broad sense and strict sense. While evidence from previous molecular studies recognized plural branching lineages within the Pleurospermum s. l., it did not support the latest delimitation of Pleurospermum s. str. by only two closely related northern species. So far, no proper delimitation for Pleurospermum has come up, and many of the plural taxa in Pleurospermum s. l. remain unresolved, which may be due to poor phylogenetic resolution yielded barely from ITS sequences. Herein, we newly assembled 40 complete plastomes from 36 species of Pleurospermum s. l. and related genera, 34 of which were first reported and generated a well-resolved backbone phylogeny in a framework of the subfamily Apioideae. From the phylogeny with greatly improved resolution, a total of six well-supported monophyletic lineages within Pleurospermum s. l. were recognized falling in different major clades of Apioideae. Combining morphological characteristics with phylogenetic inference, we suggested to re-delimit the Pleurospermum s. str. by introducing nine species mainly from the Himalayan regions and proposed its boundary features; the remaining species were suggested to be excluded from Pleurospermum to incorporate into their more related taxa being revealed. On this basis, the plastome comparison revealed not only the high conservatism but also the mild differences among lineages in plastome structure and gene evolution. Overall, our study provided a backbone phylogeny essential for further studies of the taxonomically difficult taxa within Pleurospermum s. l.

BackgroundThe Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF) is a widely utilized instrument of childhood maltreatment (CM). However, psychometric properties and normative data of the CTQ-SF for Chinese adolescents are still unknown.ObjectiveTo examine psychometric properties and normative data of Chinese version CTQ-SF in a nationally representative sample of Chinese adolescents, including internal consistency reliability, test–retest reliability, structural validity, and convergent validity.MethodA total of 20,951 adolescents aged 12 to 18 years were recruited from five provinces across China. Item analysis was used for 25 clinical items of the CTQ-SF. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to examine fit indices of the factor structure. The Adverse Childhood Experiences Scale (ACEs) was used to evaluate convergent validity. The percentile ranks for scores of the CTQ-SF and each subscales were presented.ResultsAccording to the results of three methods in Item analysis, Item 4 should be dropped. The remaining 24 clinical items achieved satisfactory fits in an alternative four-factor model. The alternative CTQ-SF showed acceptable internal consistency and the Cronbach’s α of the four subscales was 0.824 (Neglect), 0.755 (Sexual Abuse), 0.713 (Physical Abuse), and 0.666 (Emotional Abuse), respectively. Besides, test–retest reliability and convergent validity of the alternative CTQ-SF were also acceptable.ConclusionThe alternative four-factor model CTQ-SF exhibits good reliability and validity among Chinese adolescents. Additionally, the normative information of the CTQ-SF could provide practical support for determining severity of different subtypes of CM.

Abstract Aims Although childhood maltreatment has been widely supported to be a robust predictor of suicide behaviours, the effects of different childhood maltreatment subtypes remain controversial and inconclusive. Moreover, whether the effects differ by sex in urban and rural adolescents is still unknown. This study aimed to quantify the associations between five subtypes of childhood maltreatment and different suicide behaviour involvement. Methods A multistage cluster sampling method was adopted from April to December 2021 for adolescents aged 12 to 18 across five representative provinces of China. The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form was used to measure childhood maltreatment subtypes. Suicide behaviour involvement was classified as none group, suicide ideator, suicide planner and suicide attempter. Confounding variables include demographic characteristics, smoking, drinking alcohol, depression and anxiety. Results Among a total of 18,980 adolescents, 2021 (10.6%) were suicide ideator, 1595 (8.4%) were suicide planner and 1014 (5.3%) were suicide attempter. Rural females had the highest proportion of suicide ideator (13.8%) and suicide planner (11.5%). Multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that five childhood maltreatment subtypes were independently associated with suicide behaviours, except for associations between sexual abuse and suicide ideator as well as suicide planner (p > 0.05). Moreover, these associations differ by sex and residence. After adjusted for interactions of different subtypes, structural equation model indicated that the direct effects of childhood maltreatment subtypes on suicide behaviours from high to low were emotional abuse (β = 0.363, p 0.05). Conclusions Five subtypes of childhood maltreatment have specific and non-equivalence associations with suicide behaviours. Emotional abuse may have the strongest effect, and sexual abuse have an acute effect on suicide behaviours. Suicide prevention programs for Chinese adolescents could focus on those who experienced emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Furthermore, strategies should be tailored by sex and residence, and rural females deserve more attention.

Investigating the dynamics and distribution of soil phosphorus (P) fractions can provide a basis for enhancing P utilization by crops. Four treatments from a 29-year long-term experiment in black soil with maize cropping were involved in this study: no fertilizer (CK), inorganic nitrogen and potassium (NK), inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK), and NPK plus manure (NPKM). We analyzed soil P fractions in different soil layers using a modified Hedley sequential method. The long-term NPKM treatment significantly increased total P by 0.6–1.6 times in the different soil layers. The Olsen-P concentration far exceeded the environmental threshold for soil Olsen-P (50.6 mg kg−1) in the NPKM treatment in the 0–60 cm soil profile. Moreover, the concentrations and proportion of labile and partially labile inorganic P (Pi) fractions (i.e., NaHCO3-extracted Pi, NaOH-extracted Pi, and dilute HCl-extracted Pi) to the sum of all P fractions (Pt) in the 0–60 cm soil profile were higher in the NPKM treatment than in the NPK treatment, indicating that manure could promote the transformation of non-labile into more labile forms of P in soil, possibly by manure reducing P fixation by soil particles. Soil organic matter, Mehlich-3 extractable iron (Fe), and organic-bound aluminum were increased by fertilization, and were the main factors influencing the differences in the P fractions in the 0–20 cm soil layer. Soil mineral components, i.e., free Fe oxide and CaCO3, were the main factors influencing the P fractions in the subsoil. The soil P transformation process varied with soil layer and fertilization. Application of manure fertilizer can increase the labile (Olsen) P concentrations of the various soil layers, and thus should reduce the mineral P fertilizer requirement for crop growth and reduce potential environmental damage.

Abstract Straw incorporation is an effective measure for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) thereby improving soil quality and crop productivity. However, quantitative assessments of the transformation and distribution of exogenous carbon (C) in soil aggregates under various field fertilization practices have been lacking. In this study, we collected topsoil samples (0–20 cm) from three fertilization treatments (no fertilization control, CK; inorganic fertilizer, IF; inorganic fertilizer plus manure, IFM) at a 29-year long-term Mollisol experiment in Northeast China. We then mixed the soil samples with 13C-labeled maize straw (δ13C = 246.9‰), referred as CKS, IFS, and IFMS, and incubated them in-situ for 360 days. Initial and incubated soil samples were separated into four aggregate fractions (> 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2 mm aggregates (2.2–5.8 g kg−1), 1–2 mm aggregates (2.4–4.6 g kg−1), and 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2, 1–2, 0.25–1, and 2 mm aggregates (9.4–16%). Abstract The tremendous increase in industrial development and urbanization has become a severe threat to the Chinese climate and food security. The Agricultural Production System Simulator model was used to simulate soil nitrogen in black soil in Yangling Jilin Province for 20 years. The observed values are consistent with the simulated values. The predicted values of total soil NO3 −–N and NH4 +–N nitrogen are 10 kg ha−1 and 5 kg ha−1 higher than the observed values. The total soil NO3 −–N loss has the same trend as the rainfall, and it increases with the number of rainfall days over the years. The average 20 years losses of NO3 −–N and NH4 +–N observed were 1375.91 kg ha−1, and 9.24 kg ha−1, while in the simulation increase was 1387.01 kg ha−1 and 9.28 kg ha−1, respectively. The difference between the observed and simulated values of NO3 −–N and NH4 +–N of mean loss was 11.15 kg ha−1 and 0.04 kg ha−1 respectively. Moreover, our findings highlight the opportunity further to improve management policies (especially for nitrogen) to maintain crop yield.

Polypropylene-fiber-reinforced foamed concrete (PPFRFC) is often used to reduce building structure weight and develop engineering material arresting systems (EMASs). This paper investigates the dynamic mechanical properties of PPFRFC with densities of 0.27 g/cm3, 0.38 g/cm3, and 0.46 g/cm3 at high temperatures and proposes a prediction model to characterize its behavior. To conduct the tests on the specimens over a wide range of strain rates (500~1300 s−1) and temperatures (25~600 °C), the conventional split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) apparatus was modified. The test results show that the temperature has a substantial effect on the strain rate sensitivity and density dependency of the PPFRFC. Additionally, the analysis of failure models demonstrates that with the melting of polypropylene fibers, the level of damage in PPFRFC under dynamic loading increases, resulting in the generation of a greater number of fragments.

Abstract Background Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection has become an international public health problem, and antibiotic-based triple or quadruple therapy is currently the mainstay of treatment. However, the effectiveness of these therapies decreases due to resistance to multiple commonly used antibiotics. Sanguisorba officinalis L. (S. officinalis), a traditional Chinese medicine clinically used for hemostasis and treatment of diarrhea, has various pharmacological activities. In this study, in vitro antimicrobial activity was used for the preliminary evaluation of S. officinalis against H. pylori. And a pharmacology analysis approach was also utilized to elucidate its underlying mechanisms against H. pylori infection. Methods Micro-broth dilution method, agar dilution method, checkerboard assay, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used for the assessment of anti-bacterial activity. Active ingredients screening, GO analysis, KEGG analysis, construction of PPI network, molecular docking, and RT-qPCR were used to elucidate the underlying pharmacological mechanisms of S. officinalis against H. pylori infection. Results The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of S. officinalis against multiple H. pylori strains including clinically isolated multi-drug resistant (MDR) strains were ranging from 160 to 320 µg/ml. These results showed that S. officinalis had additive interaction with four commonly used antibiotics and could exert antibacterial effect by changing the morphology of bacteria without developing drug resistance. Through network pharmacology analysis, 8 active ingredients in S. officinalis were screened out for subsequent studies. Among 222 putative targets of S. officinalis, 49 targets were identified as potential targets for treatment of H. pylori infection. And these 49 targets were significantly enriched in GO processes such as protein kinase B signaling, protein kinase activity, protein kinase binding, and KEGG pathways such as Pathways in cancer, MicroRNAs in cancer, and TNF signaling pathway. Protein-protein interaction analysis yielded 5 core targets (AKT1, VEGFA, EGFR, SRC, CCND1), which were validated by molecular docking and RT-qPCR. Conclusions Overall, this study confirmed the in vitro inhibitory activity of S. officinalis against H. pylori and explored the possible pharmacological mechanisms, laying the foundation for further research and clinical application.

ObjectiveThe impact of the mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program on psychological outcomes and quality of life (QoL) in lung cancer patients remains unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the MBSR program on psychological states and QoL in lung cancer patients.MethodsEligible studies published before November 2021 were systematically searched from PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang databases. The risk of bias in eligible studies was assessed using the Cochrane tool. Psychological variables and QoL were evaluated as outcomes. We used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system to grade the levels of evidence. Statistical analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.4 and STATA 14.0.ResultsA total of 17 studies involving 1,680 patients were included for meta-analysis eventually. MBSR program significantly relieved cancer-related fatigue (standard mean difference [SMD], −1.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], −1.69 to −0.82; moderate evidence) and negative psychological states (SMD, −1.35; 95% CI, −1.69 to −1.02; low evidence), enhanced positive psychological states (SMD, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.56–1.27; moderate evidence), and improved quality of sleep (MD, −2.79; 95% CI, −3.03 to −2.56; high evidence). Evidence on MBSR programs' overall treatment effect for QoL revealed a trend toward statistical significance (p = 0.06, low evidence).ConclusionBased on our findings, the MBSR program shows positive effects on psychological states in lung cancer patients. BackgroundColorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common malignant cancer worldwide. Sanguisorba officinalis has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antioxidant, and anti-tumor effects, while its molecular mechanism against CRC remains unclear. The aim of this study is to explore the underlying mechanism of S. officinalis against CRC cell lines using network pharmacology and transcriptomic sequencing methods.MethodFirstly, the active ingredients and potential targets of S. officinalis against CRC were screened from databases. Secondly, the networks of ingredient–target, ingredient–target–CRC and protein–protein interaction were constructed. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses of network pharmacology and transcriptomic sequencing were performed. Finally, the effect of S. officinalis against CRC was verified by in vitro experiments.ResultsIn total, 14 active ingredients and 273 potential targets against CRC were identified in S. officinalis by network pharmacology. PI3K–Akt, HIF-1, and MAPK signaling pathways related to cell proliferation were regulated by S. officinalis in enrichment analyses and transcriptomic sequencing. In vitro, S. officinalis inhibited the proliferation and migration of CRC cells and arrested the cell cycle at the G0–G1 phase. The western blot showed that S. officinalis downregulated the expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt, HIF-1A, VEGFA, cyclin D1, c-Myc, and p-MAPK proteins in CRC cells.ConclusionIn conclusion, network pharmacology and transcriptomic sequencing analyses, in combination with in vitro studies, have been successfully applied to study the underlying mechanism of S. officinalis against CRC cells. Our results demonstrate that S. officinalis suppresses the proliferation, survival, and migration of CRC cells through regulating the PI3K–Akt, HIF-1, and MAPK signaling pathways.

BackgroundAutoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is mediated by a cascade of T cell-mediated events directed at liver cells and persistent inflammation within the liver can eventually result in liver cirrhosis. Targeting glutamine metabolism has an impact on T cell activation and differentiation. However, the effect of glutamine metabolism blocking upon AIH remains unknown. We use glutaminase antagonist 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON) for in vitro assays and its prodrug 2-(2-amino-4-methylpentanamido)-DON (JHU083) for in vivo assays to investigate the potential therapeutic effect and molecular mechanism of glutamine metabolism blocking in an AIH murine model.MethodsAIH mice were treated with JHU083 or vehicle before concanavalin A (ConA) administration, and disease severity was examined. Then activation and differentiation [including Th1/Th17 cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL)] of T cells from Vehicle-WT, JHU083-AIH and Vehicle-AIH mice were tested. Furthermore, in vitro T cell activation and differentiation were measured using separated splenocytes stimulated with ConA with or without DON. The activation and differentiation of T cells were tested using flow cytometry, qRT-PCR and ELISA. Phosphorylation level of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and 70 kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase (P70S6K) were examined by western blotting.ResultsJHU083 and DON significantly suppressed the activation of T cells and inhibited the differentiation of Th1/Th17 cells and CTL in vivo and in vitro. Besides, we demonstrated that glutamine metabolism blocking inhibited T cells activation and differentiation through decreasing the mRNA expression of amino acid transporter solute carrier family 7 member 5 (SLC7A5) and mitigating the activation of mTOR signaling.ConclusionsWe proved that targeting glutamine metabolism represents a potential new treatment strategy for patients with AIH and other T cell-mediated disease. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that glutamine metabolism blocking inhibits T cells activation and suppresses the differentiation of Th1/Th17 cells and CTL.

A field experiment lasting 37 years was conducted to evaluate the applications of different rates of pig manure and mineral fertilisers alone or in combination impacts on total phosphorus (Ptotal) and Olsen phosphorus (POlsen) contents and phosphorus activity coefficient (PAC, percentage of POlsen to Ptotal) within soil water-stable aggregates (WSA) in a Mollisol of Northeast China. The contents of Ptotal and POlsen associated with different size classes of WSA significantly (P < 0.05) increased with an increasing rate of applied P. The application of manure alone or combined with mineral fertilisers significantly increased PAC value associated with different size classes of WSA. There were positive correlations between Ptotal and POlsen contents with soil organic carbon (SOC) content within soil WSA. As SOC content increased 1 g/kg, Ptotal and POlsen contents increased 0.06-0.10 g/kg and 7.69-22.2 mg/kg, respectively, and the increase was larger in smaller size classes of WSA. The results suggested that a high manure rate combined with mineral fertilisers is more beneficial for increasing soil phosphorus content and availability. SOC is a vital factor controlling phosphorus content and availability within soil WSA.

Abstract Background The genus Ligusticum consists of approximately 60 species distributed in the Northern Hemisphere. It is one of the most taxonomically difficult taxa within Apiaceae, largely due to the varied morphological characteristics. To investigate the plastome evolution and phylogenetic relationships of Ligusticum, we determined the complete plastome sequences of eight Ligusticum species using a de novo assembly approach. Results Through a comprehensive comparative analysis, we found that the eight plastomes were similar in terms of repeat sequence, SSR, codon usage, and RNA editing site. However, compared with the other seven species, L. delavayi exhibited striking differences in genome size, gene number, IR/SC borders, and sequence identity. Most of the genes remained under the purifying selection, whereas four genes showed relaxed selection, namely ccsA, rpoA, ycf1, and ycf2. Non-monophyly of Ligusticum species was inferred from the plastomes and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences phylogenetic analyses. Conclusion The plastome tree and ITS tree produced incongruent tree topologies, which may be attributed to the hybridization and incomplete lineage sorting. Our study highlighted the advantage of plastome with mass informative sites in resolving phylogenetic relationships. Moreover, combined with the previous studies, we considered that the current taxonomy system of Ligusticum needs to be improved and revised. In summary, our study provides new insights into the plastome evolution, phylogeny, and taxonomy of Ligusticum species.

Aloe vera (L.) Burm.f. is widely used as laxative drugs, cosmetics, and functional food due to a variety of therapeutic effects. However, several studies indicated a colonic carcinogenic activity of Aloe vera. But the underline mechanism has not been well clarified. This study aimed to explore the potential mechanism at the post-transcriptional level. Identification of Differential Expressed Alternative Splicing (DEAS) genes and events and the corresponding functional enrichment analyses were conducted on RKO cells after treated with Aloe vera aqueous extract and its two active components, aloin and aloesin. And RT-qPCR was conducted for validation. Results indicated that they induced 2200, 2342 and 2133 DEAS events, respectively. The GO enrichment and the COG classification results of DEAS genes showed that they were associated with transcription, as well as functions like signal transduction mechanisms. Moreover, DEAS genes related to the two colorectal cancerous pathways, Wnt and Notch pathways, were annotated. In conclusion, aloe extract, aloin and aloesin significantly regulated the DEAS profile of RKO cells. The colonic carcinogenicity of Aloe vera may due to its post-transcriptional regulatory activity through Alternative Splicing (AS) on genes, especially on Wnt-related and Notch-related key genes.

The article defines the historical background, town-planning significance, the principles of construction of the volume-spatial composition, the peculiarities of decoration of the Gùgōng, in China, the largest in the world palace complex, development of which continued during the Ming and Qing dynasties periods. The symbolism of decorative elements and polychromy is analyzed. The article presents basic concepts that characterize the traditional Chinese architecture. In Chinese architecture and works of art, a special role was given to symbolic decoration and polychromy, which was also marked by a certain symbolic meaning. Determined that traditional Chinese architecture is characterized by the following concepts associated with the construction of buildings of various functional purposes, traditional beliefs, elements of structures and symbols: tradition (Chuan tong), architecture (Jian zhu), temple (Si miao), pagoda (Bao ta), palace (Gong dian), park (Gong yuan), Daoism or Taoism (Gao xue), Confucianism (Yu xue), Buddhism (Fuo xue), interior (Shi nei), paintings (Bi hua), arbor (Ting zi), symbol (Fu hao), roof (Wu ding), support or pillar (Zhu zi), folding screen (Ping feng), timber (Mu cai), lotus (Lian hua), dragon (Long). The main colours of traditional Chinese polychromy are the following colours (yan se): red (Hong se de), golden (Yang se de), blue (Lan se de), green (Lv se de), white (Bai se de). Comparative analysis of polychromy of everyday objects, works of art and architecture shows the dominance of open colors and simple images in ancient times and the gradual diversity of compositions and polychromy since the Song and Tang dynasties. Complicating the plot and polychromatic diversity took place in the Yuan period, whereas in the Ming period (XIV c.) formed a certain standard of fresco paintings and decor of religious and secular character, which is concentrated in the ensemble of the Gùgōng Imperial Palace). The location of the palace complex of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the city, the design of the complex itself, its architectural image and the smallest details, reflected a hierarchy of the social structure of the state, symbolized the divine majesty of imperial power, reflected the foundations of philosophy and religious teachings. All the main halls of the outer and inner palaces are grouped into groups of three – according to the format of the trigram of ‘Cyan’, which symbolizes the Sky.

Catalytic reduction has been regarded as one of the most efficient strategy for organic pollutants removal from aqueous solution. However, lack of efficient catalyst prevents its practical application. Herein, we design a simple and environmental friendly fabrication strategy for the 3D Ag nanoparticles/Ti3C2Tx/polyacrylamide (Ag/MX/PAM) composite hydrogel as high efficient catalyst. In this composite hydrogel, the Ag nanoparticles, Ti3C2Tx (MXene) and polyacrylamide (PAM) act as active species, efficient electron transfer medium and high-capacity adsorbent respectively. Due to these synergistic effects for the composite hydrogel catalyst, the electron-transferring ability as well as the adsorption capacity are boosted and thus high catalytic activity achieves towards both methylene blue (MB) and 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction. The superior rate constant k of 8.333 min−1 and turnover frequency (TOF) up to 25.17 min−1 for 4-NP reduction are realized over the 12%-Ag/MX/PAM hydrogel. Impressively, this composite hydrogel with a foam-like bulk structure can be reused easily after catalytic reaction, making it a potential catalyst for reduction of organic pollutants in industrialization.

The objective of this article is to review the recent advancement in piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducer (PMUT) technology and the associated piezoelectric materials, device fabrication and characterization, as well as applications. PMUT has been an active research topic since the late 1990s because of the ultrasound application needs of low cost large 2D arrays, and the promising progresses on piezoelectric thin films, semiconductors, and micro/nano-electromechanical system technology. However, the industrial and medical applications of PMUTs have not been very significant until the recent success of PMUT based fingerprint sensing, which inspired growing interests in PMUT research and development. In this paper, recent advances of piezoelectric materials for PMUTs are reviewed first by analyzing the material properties and their suitability for PMUTs. PMUT structures and the associated micromachining processes are next reviewed with a focus on the complementary metal oxide semiconductor compatibility. PMUT prototypes and their applications over the last decade are then summarized to show the development trend of PMUTs. Finally, the prospective future of PMUTs is discussed as well as the challenges on piezoelectric materials, micro/nanofabrication and device integration.

Metro vehicles have always been known for their high passenger density, frequent traffic flow and strong alternating loads due to their severe running environment. As the major support component, the bogie frame suffers from fatigue damages and receives a high intensity of interest. In this work, a theoretical model is presented between the measured strain and the structural stress via multiple load identification, wherein recognition matrices and stress evaluations of the bogie frame are defined according to the locations found in finite element analysis (FEA). The model is validated through random loading in FE simulation, and the load deviation is within 1.1 kN. A vehicle experiment was performed on the second bogie of the head car on a six-car metro train. The signed von Mises (SVM) stress was calculated at critical locations with the proposed method and compared with what was measured. The excessive part was no more than 14.97%, comparing the reconstructed with the measured amounts. Stress spectra were developed utilizing rain-flow counting and evaluated in terms of the damage accumulation rule with the optimal spectra groups determined from convergence analysis. The evaluation indicates that, when the running mileage increases to the full life cycle of 3,960,000 km, the maximum equivalent damage reaches 0.35 and 0.46 at the gear box base for measured and reconstructed amounts, respectively. Research outcomes suggest that the proposed method offers an alternative for fatigue assessment and maintenance strategies on metro vehicles, as well as other types of rail-transit vehicles.

With the rapid advancement of tracking technologies, the applications of tracking systems in ultrasound imaging have expanded across a wide range of fields. In this review article, we discuss the basic tracking principles, system components, performance analyses, as well as the main sources of error for popular tracking technologies that are utilized in ultrasound imaging. In light of the growing demand for object tracking, this article explores both the potential and challenges associated with different tracking technologies applied to various ultrasound imaging applications, including freehand 3D ultrasound imaging, ultrasound image fusion, ultrasound-guided intervention and treatment. Recent development in tracking technology has led to increased accuracy and intuitiveness of ultrasound imaging and navigation with less reliance on operator skills, thereby benefiting the medical diagnosis and treatment. Although commercially available tracking systems are capable of achieving sub-millimeter resolution for positional tracking and sub-degree resolution for orientational tracking, such systems are subject to a number of disadvantages, including high costs and time-consuming calibration procedures. While some emerging tracking technologies are still in the research stage, their potentials have been demonstrated in terms of the compactness, light weight, and easy integration with existing standard or portable ultrasound machines.

The phosphorus (P) leaching from continuous fertilization is generally neglected in mollisol. The in situ leaching loss of phosphorus (P), especially dissolved organic P, is poorly quantified under organic amendments given its potential environmental risks. In this study, we conducted an in situ soil column experiment, instead of the traditional measuring of the soil layer, in the mollisol area of northeast China to investigate the seasonal variations in different P forms under three typical fertilization practices, including chemical fertilizer (CF), CF supplemented with straw (CFS), and CF co-applied with straw and manure (CFSM). Compared with the CF treatment, CFS treatment generally reduced the leaching loss of dissolved organic P by 57.3% to reduce the total P loss, while the CFSM treatment increased the leaching loss of dissolved inorganic P by 20.9% to increase the total P loss. Other than the effects of management practices, precipitation and temperature-oriented environmental factors significantly affected the seasonal variation in leaching loss of both the dissolved and particulate P forms. We conclude that straw incorporation into the mollisol of northeast China is recommended, considering its low leaching risk of P, while a co-amendment of straw and manure resulted in the opposite. Despite the slight environmental risk of P leaching loss (0.75–1.95% of external P input per year) practically quantified by in situ experiments, a proper reduction in chemical P input with organic amendments may be an effective P fertilizer management strategy in mollisol areas.

Understanding the effects of a fertilization regime on the long-term accumulation and transformation of soil phosphorus (P) is essential for promoting the development of sustainable management of soil P. Based on a 29-year field experiment in Mollisol, the compositions and changes of P forms using a modified Hedley sequential extraction method, solution 31P-NMR and P K-edge XANES and soil properties were investigated under continuous mono maize with and without manure (NPKM and NPK). Results showed a stronger positive related coefficient between soil total P and labile P, and mid-labile P fraction was found in NPKM than in NPK treatment. It indicated NPKM could improve the availability of soil accumulated P and reduce its transformation to stable P. Accumulated inorganic P (Pi) was dominated by aluminum phosphate (Al-P) and monobasic calcium phosphate monohydrate (MCP) for NPK treatment, Al-P, MCP, and tricalcium phosphate for NPKM treatment with XANES analysis, which contributed to the P availability in Mollisol. Moreover, the proportion of IHP with XANES and ratio of orthophosphate diesters to monoesters in NPK compared to NPKM indicated the higher Po lability with NPK treatment. Pi, especially NaHCO3-Pi and NaOH-Pi, were the potential sources of resin-Pi. Soil organic matter (SOM), organic-bound iron, and alumina oxide (Fep + Alp) showed significant influence on the transformation of P forms. Our research suggested that due to the rise in SOM and Fep + Alp, the fertilization regime significantly increased most highly active soil P fractions, especially in NPKM treatment. This work gives new insight into sustainable P management, which benefits the reduction in soil P accumulation.

Fault monitoring of multiphase batch process is a difficult problem in multivariate statistical process monitoring. It needs to consider not only the process monitoring under stable mode, but also the transition mode with strong dynamic nonlinearity. Since the data has different correlations under different operating modes, it is necessary to establish different monitoring models for each process mode, especially the transition process between stable modes. The biggest feature is the dynamic characteristics of the variables. This feature can be better reflected in this transition using a time-varying covariance instead of a fixed covariance during the transition phase. In this paper, a new strategy for batch process sub-phase partition and process monitoring is proposed. Firstly, the three-dimensional data matrix is expanded into a new two-dimensional data according to the time slice expansion strategy. Secondly, the data of each time slice is transformed by Kernel Entropy Component Analysis (KECA), and then the production process is divided into phases according to the spatial angle of the kernel entropy. The production operation process is divided into a stable phase and a transition phase, and monitoring models are respectively established to monitor the production process; Finally, the application of the penicillin fermentation simulation platform shows that the Sub-MKECA phase partition results can reflect the mechanism of the batch process well, and the fault monitoring of the process shows that it can detect faults in time and accurately, and has high practicality value.

More layers in a convolution neural network (CNN) means more computational burden and longer training time, resulting in poor performance of pattern recognition. In this work, a simplified global information fusion convolution neural network (SGIF-CNN) is proposed to improve computational efficiency and diagnostic accuracy. In the improved CNN architecture, the feature maps of all the convolutional and pooling layers are globally convoluted into a corresponding one-dimensional feature sequence, and then all the feature sequences are concatenated into the fully connected layer. On this basis, this paper further proposes a novel fault diagnosis method for a rotor–journal bearing system based on SGIF-CNN. Firstly, the time-frequency distributions of samples are obtained using the Adaptive Optimal-Kernel Time–Frequency Representation algorithm (AOK-TFR). Secondly, the time–frequency diagrams of the training samples are utilized to train the SGIF-CNN model using a shallow information fusion method, and the trained SGIF-CNN model can be tested using the time–frequency diagrams of the testing samples. Finally, the trained SGIF-CNN model is transplanted to the equipment’s online monitoring system to monitor the equipment’s operating conditions in real time. The proposed method is verified using the data from a rotor test rig and an ultra-scale air separator, and the analysis results show that the proposed SGIF-CNN improves the computing efficiency compared to the traditional CNN while ensuring the accuracy of the fault diagnosis.

Cnidium monnieri is an economically important traditional Chinese medicinal plant. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of C. monnieri was determined using the Illumina paired-end sequencing, the GetOrganelle de novo assembly strategy, as well as the GeSeq annotation method. Our results showed that the cp genome was 147,371 bp in length with 37.4% GC content and included a large single-copy region (94,361 bp) and a small single-copy region (17,552 bp) separated by a pair of inverted repeat regions (17,729 bp). A total of 129 genes were contained in the cp genome, including 85 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. We also investigated codon usage, RNA editing, repeat sequences, simple sequence repeats (SSRs), IR boundaries, and pairwise Ka/Ks ratios. Four hypervariable regions (trnD-trnY-trnE-trnT, ycf2, ndhF-rpl32-trnL, and ycf1) were identified as candidate molecular markers for species authentication. The phylogenetic analyses supported non-monophyly of Cnidium and C. monnieri located in tribe Selineae based on the cp genome sequences and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences. The incongruence of the phylogenetic position of C. monnieri between ITS and cpDNA phylogenies suggested that C. monnieri might have experienced complex evolutions with hybrid and incomplete lineage sorting. All in all, the results presented herein will provide plentiful chloroplast genomic resources for studies of the taxonomy, phylogeny, and species authentication of C. monnieri. Our study is also conducive to elucidating the phylogenetic relationships and taxonomic position of Cnidium.

Cardiac hypertrophy is a complex process induced by the activation of multiple signaling pathways. We previously reported that anacardic acid (AA), a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) inhibitor, attenuates phenylephrine (PE)-induced cardiac hypertrophy by downregulating histone H3 acetylation at lysine 9 (H3K9ac). Unfortunately, the related upstream signaling events remained unknown. The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway is an important regulator of cardiac hypertrophy. In this study, we explored the role of JNK/MAPK signaling pathway in cardiac hypertrophy induced by PE. The mice cardiomyocyte hypertrophy model was successfully established by treating cells with PE in vitro. This study showed that p-JNK directly interacts with HATs (P300 and P300/CBP-associated factor, PCAF) and alters H3K9ac. In addition, both the JNK inhibitor SP600125 and the HAT inhibitor AA attenuated p-JNK overexpression and H3K9ac hyperacetylation by inhibiting P300 and PCAF during PE-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Moreover, we demonstrated that both SP600125 and AA attenuate the overexpression of cardiac hypertrophy-related genes (MEF2A, ANP, BNP, and β-MHC), preventing cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and dysfunction. These results revealed a novel mechanism through which AA might protect mice from PE-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. In particular, AA inhibits the effects of JNK signaling on HATs-mediated histone acetylation, and could therefore be used to prevent and treat pathological cardiac hypertrophy.

Background: Bullying tends to peak during adolescence, and it is an important risk factor of self-harm and suicide. However, research on the specific effect of different sub-types of bullying is limited.Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between four common forms of bullying (verbal, physical, relational, and cyber) and self-harm, suicidal ideation (SI), and suicide attempts (SA).Method: This was a cross-sectional study of a sample including 4,241 Chinese students (55.8% boys) aged 11 to 18 years. Bullying involvement, self-harm, SI, and SA were measured via The Juvenile Campus Violence Questionnaire (JCVQ). The association was examined through multinomial logistic regression analysis, adjusted for demographic characteristics and psychological distress.Results: Bullying victimization and perpetration were reported by 18.0 and 10.7% of participants. The prevalence of self-harm, SI, and SA were 11.8, 11.8, and 7.1%, respectively. Relational bullying victimization and perpetration were significantly associated with SI only, SI plus self-harm, and SA. Physical bullying victimization and perpetration were risk factors of self-harm only and SA. Verbal victimization was significantly associated with SI only. Cyber perpetration was a risk factor of SA.Conclusions: The findings highlight the different effects of sub-types of bullying on self-harm and suicidal risk. Anti-bullying intervention and suicide prevention efforts should be prior to adolescents who are involved in physical and relational bullying.

Sibling bullying is a common phenomenon in childhood and adolescence worldwide and has a significant association with mental health distress. However, there have been few studies that have examined the associations between any specific sub-type of sibling bullying and depression as well as anxiety. Besides, the association between sibling bullying and psychological well-being was never explored among the Chinese population. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the associations between the number of sub-types of sibling bullying involvement and depression as well as anxiety among Chinese children and adolescents. Multi-stage stratified cluster sampling was used to recruit 5,926 participants aged 10 to 18 who had at least one sibling living in the household. Different sub-types of sibling bullying involvement were determined by using Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ). The nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) were used to screen clinical ranges of major depression and generalized anxiety disorder, respectively. Of the participants, 1,235 (20.8%) were bullied by siblings, and 1,230 (20.8%) perpetrated bullying behavior against siblings over the past 6 months. After controlling potential confounders, adjusted model of logistic regression analyses indicated that all three sub-types of sibling victimization and perpetration were significantly associated with both depression and anxiety. There were linear associations between the number of sub-types of sibling bullying victimization and depression (adjusted OR = 1.49, 95% CI 1.32 to 1.68) as well as anxiety (adjusted OR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.48 to 1.90). Besides, linear trends were found between the number of sub-types of sibling bullying perpetration and depression (adjusted OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.26 to 1.64) as well as anxiety (adjusted OR = 1.63, 95% CI 1.42 to 1.87). The findings underline dose–response relationships between the number of sub-types of sibling bullying involvement and mental health distress. Intervention programs should be conducted to focus on developing mental health status of those children and adolescents who are involved in multiple sub-types of sibling victimization or perpetration.

The Olsen phosphorus (Olsen-P) concentration of soil is generally a good indicator for estimating the bioavailability of P and environmental risk in soils. To maintain soil Olsen-P at adequate levels for crop growth and environmental sustainability, the relationship between soil Olsen-P and the P budget (the P input minus the output) as well as the variations of soil Olsen-P and P budget were investigated from three long-term (22 years) experiments in China. Five treatments were selected: (1) unfertilized control (CK); (2) nitrogen and potassium (NK); (3) nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium (NPK); (4) nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and straw; (5) nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and manure. The results showed that without P fertilizers (CK, NK), there was a soil P deficit of 75-640 kg ha-1, and the lowest P deficit (mean of CK and NK) was in Eutric Cambisol. Soil Olsen-P decreased by 0.11-0.39 mg kg-1 year-1 in the order of Luvic Phaeozems > Eutric Cambisol > Calcaric Cambisol. Soil Olsen-P and the P deficit had a significantly (P Luvic Phaeozems > Calcaric Cambisol. Under the P fertilizer treatments (NPK, NPKS, and NPKM), soil Olsen-P showed an obvious surplus (except the NPK and NPKS in Luvic Phaeozems) of 122-2190 kg ha-1, and the largest P surplus was found under the NPKM treatment at each site. The relation between soil Olsen-P and the experimental years could be simulated using quadratic equation of one unknown in Calcaric Cambisol for the lower P input after 14 years of fertilization. And soil Olsen-P increased by 1.30-7.69 mg kg-1 year-1 in the order of Luvic Phaeozems > Eutric Cambisol. The relation between soil Olsen-P and the P surplus could be simulated by a simple linear equation except under NPK and NPKS in Luvic Phaeozems. With 100 kg ha-1 P surplus, soil Olsen-P increased by 3.24-7.27 mg kg-1 in the order of Calcaric Cambisol (6.42 mg kg-1) > Eutric Cambisol (3.24 mg kg-1). In addition, the change in soil Olsen-P with a 100 kg P ha-1 surplus (soil Olsen-P efficiency) was affected by the soil organic matter (SOM), pH, and CaCO3 content, etc. In the practice of fertilization, it's not necessary to increase the amount of P fertilizers, farmers should take measure to solve the local problem, for adjust the soil pH of Eutric Cambisol and Calcaric Cambisol, and apply more nitrogen in Luvic Phaeozems. In the area of serious soil P surplus, it is encouraged to stop applying P fertilizers for a few years to take advantage of soil accumulated P and make the high Olsen-P content decrease to a reasonable level.

Background Tetrataenium candicans is a traditional Chinese folk herbal medicine used in the treatment of asthma and rheumatic arthritis. Alongside several Tordyliinae species with fleshy roots, it is also regarded as a substitute for a Chinese material medicine called ‘Danggui’. However, a lack of sufficient sampling and genomic information has impeded species identification and the protection of wild resources. Methods The complete chloroplast genomes of T. candicans from two populations, Tetrataenium yunnanense and Semenovia transilliensis, were assembled from two pipelines using data generated from next generation sequencing (NGS). Pseudogenes, inverted repeats (IRs) and hyper-variable regions were located by Geneious 11.1.5. Repeat motifs were searched using MISA and REPuter. DNA polymorphism and segment screening were processed by DNAsp5, and PCR product was sequenced with Sanger’s sequencing method. Phylogeny was inferred by MEGA 7.0 and PhyML 3.0. Results The complete chloroplast genomes of T. candicans from two populations, T. yunnanense and S. transilliensis, were 142,261 bp, 141,985 bp, 142,714 bp and 142,145 bp in length, respectively, indicating conservative genome structures and gene categories. We observed duplications of trnH and psbA caused by exceptional contractions and expansions of the IR regions when comparing the four chloroplast genomes with previously published data. Analyses on DNA polymorphism located 29 candidate cp DNA barcodes for the authentication of ‘Danggui’ counterfeits. Meanwhile, 34 hyper-variable markers were also located by the five Tordyliinae chloroplast genomes, and 11 of them were screened for population genetics of T. candicans based on plastome information from two individuals. The screening results indicated that populations of T.candicans may have expanded. Phylogeny inference on Apiaceae species by CDS sequences showed most lineages were well clustered, but the five Tordyliinae species failed to recover as a monophyletic group, and the phylogenetic relationship between tribe Coriandreae, tribe Selineae, subtribe Tordyliinae and Sinodielsia clade remains unclear. Discussion The four chloroplast genomes offer valuable information for further research on species identification, cp genome structure, population demography and phylogeny in Apiaceae subfamily Apioideae.

Due to its lethal effect on the human body and other creatures, Cr(VI) ions have attained widespread public attention, and an effective adsorbent for removing Cr(VI) ions is vital. Chitosan (CS)/cellulose nanocrystals grafted with carbon dots (CNCD) composite hydrogel with strong sorption ability and sensitive detection ability for Cr(VI) was formed. The cellulose nanocrystals (CN) offered a natural skeleton for assembling 3D porous structures, and then improved the sorption ability for Cr(VI); moreover, carbon dots (CD) acted as a fluorescent probe for Cr(VI) and provided Cr(VI) adsorption sites. With a maximum adsorption capacity of 217.8 mg/g, the CS/CNCD composite hydrogel exhibited efficient adsorption properties. Meanwhile, with a detection limit of 0.04 μg/L, this hydrogel was used for selective and quantitative detection of Cr(VI). The determination of Cr(VI) was based on the inner filter effect (IFE) and static quenching. This hydrogel retained its effective adsorption ability even after four repeated regenerations. Furthermore, the economic feasibility of the CS/CNCD composite hydrogel over activated carbon was confirmed using cost analysis. This study provided one new method for producing low-cost adsorbents with effective sorption and sensitive detection for Cr(VI).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancer in the world. The first line chemotherapeutic agent, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), plays a predominant role in the clinical treatment of CRC. However, with the wide use of 5-FU, more and more CRC patients have been obtaining drug resistance to 5-FU, which leads to a large amount of treatment failures. One of the effective strategies to overcome this obstacle is to find bioactive natural products from traditional medicine. In our previous work, Sanguisorba officinalis L. was found to exert a strong anti-proliferative activity against 5-FU-senstive/resistant CRC cells. Therefore, several compounds were isolated from this herb and screened for their anti-CRC effects to find promising compounds. Among them, a triterpenoid compound named 3β-[(α-l-arabinopyranosyl) oxy]-urs-12,18(19)-dien-28-oic acid β-d-glucopyranosyl ester (AGE), showed strong activity against both 5-FU-senstive and resistant CRC cells. In order to further study the mechanism of AGE on CRC cells, flow cytometer analysis, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) measurement, Western blotting, and RT-PCR assays were performed. Results demonstrated that AGE induced cell death by apoptosis pathway and autophagy, and inhibited cell proliferation via cell cycle arrest in G0-G1 phase mediated by Wnt signaling pathway. Therefore, AGE may be a potential bioactive compound for CRC treatment in clinic.

As a well-known medical imaging methodology, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging plays a critical role in diagnosis, treatment guidance and post-treatment assessment of coronary artery diseases. By cannulating a miniature ultrasound transducer mounted catheter into an artery, the vessel lumen opening, vessel wall morphology and other associated blood and vessel properties can be precisely assessed in IVUS imaging. Ultrasound transducer, as the key component of an IVUS system, is critical in determining the IVUS imaging performance. In recent years, a wide range of achievements in ultrasound transducers have been reported for IVUS imaging applications. Herein, a comprehensive review is given on recent advances in ultrasound transducers for IVUS imaging. Firstly, a fundamental understanding of IVUS imaging principle, evaluation parameters and IVUS catheter are summarized. Secondly, three different types of ultrasound transducers (piezoelectric ultrasound transducer, piezoelectric micromachined ultrasound transducer and capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducer) for IVUS imaging are presented. Particularly, the recent advances in piezoelectric ultrasound transducer for IVUS imaging are extensively examined according to their different working mechanisms, configurations and materials adopted. Thirdly, IVUS-based multimodality intravascular imaging of atherosclerotic plaque is discussed. Finally, summary and perspectives on the future studies are highlighted for IVUS imaging applications.
