Abstract

A new Cd(ii) coordination polymers, formulated as [Cd(1,4-chdc)(L)]n (1) (L = 1-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol ligands and 1,4-H2chdc = 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate acid), were successfully synthesized by using L ligand and 1,4-H2chdc acid under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray elemental analyses, diffraction, and IR spectroscopy. Each Cd(ii) atom is a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry connecting the deprotonated 1,4-chdc anion to form a 2D layer, and a 2D layer is formed into a 3D supramolecular structure by the π–π stacking interactions between neighboring layers.

Abstract

A cadmium coordination polymer, [Cd(1,4-NDC)(L)]n (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized by using 1-(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)naphthalen-2-ol (L) and 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2NDC). The complex 1 was characterized by diffraction and elemental analyses. In complex 1, the cadmium ion is distorted octahedral coordinated linking the deprotonated 1,4-NDC anion to form a two-dimensional (2D) layer, and the 2D layer are associated into 3D supramolecular structure via the strong π–π stacking interactions from the conjugated L ligands. In addition, thermogravimetry, powder X-ray diffraction, and the solid-state photoluminescent properties of complex 1 were also studied.

Abstract

Two new Zn(ii) coordination complexes [Zn(L)(dna)(H2O)] (1) and [Zn(L)(glu)]2·H2O (2) (L = 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline, H2dna = 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid, H2glu = glutaric acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, fluorescence spectrum, and infrared spectroscopy. For complex 1, the dna2− anion adopts μ 1 -η 1 :η 1 chelating bidentate mode to coordinate with one Zn(ii) atom and π–π stacking interactions are formed between the L ligands. For complex 2, glu2− anions connect Zn(ii) atoms to form a wavy two-dimensional layer, and the L ligands are attached on two sides of the two-dimensional layer.

50. Self-supporting Ru3+ doped copper phosphate with Pt/C-like hydrogen evolution reaction activity.

Abstract

Designing a bifunctional catalyst with excellent water splitting properties in both alkaline electrolyte and seawater remains a challenge. Metal phosphates are widely reported oxygen evolution reaction (OER) materials. However, their poor conductivity and low electrochemical properties still need to be improved. Since there are almost no corresponding hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) or OER applications of copper phosphate, here we have applied copper foam (CF) as a conductive substrate, as well as a copper source to synthesize self-supporting Cu3(PO4)2/CF. Meanwhile, we introduced Ru3+ into the synthetic environment of Cu3(PO4)2 to optimize its electrochemical performance. Luckily, Ru3+ was evenly doped into Cu3(PO4)2 and the obtained Ru–Cu3(PO4)2/CF showed excellent electrochemical performance in both alkaline electrolyte and seawater. Specifically, it displayed enhanced OER properties over pure Cu3(PO4)2/CF and showed Pt/C-like HER activity during electrocatalytic testing. Corresponding computational theory data confirmed that the introduced Ru improved the inherent electrochemical activity of Ru–Cu3(PO4)2/CF and thereby accelerated its electrocatalytic water splitting properties. Thus, this work not only provides an efficient bifunctional catalyst in both alkaline electrolyte and seawater, but will also lay experimental/theoretical foundations for other metal phosphates.
