Abstract

Thermally expandable microspheres (TEMs) are hollow polymeric particles in which a blowing gas has been encapsulated. This property makes them excellent for thermal insulation applications, such as lightweight fillers. This study has developed a viable technology for further improving thermal insulation properties in the field that needs excellent thermal insulation of textile fabrics. The ATO/TEMs composites were designed and prepared to reduce sunlight radiation by the charge gravity method. The test results showed that the ATO‐coated TEMs effectively block thermal radiation from sunlight. The temperature difference between ATO/TEMs treated cotton and the uncoated cotton fabric was 9 °C, and the thermal conductivity coatings were 0.0432 W/m⋅K. The UPF value of ATO/TEMs (ILs) coated cotton fabric is 440, significantly higher than pure cotton. Abstract

Liquid metals show unparalleled advantages in printable circuits, flexible wear, drug carriers, and electromagnetic shielding. However, the efficient and large-scale preparation of liquid metal nanodroplets (LM NDs) remains a significant challenge. Here, we propose a simple and efficient method for the large-scale preparation of stable eutectic gallium indium nanodroplets (EGaIn NDs). We compared different preparation methods and found that droplets with smaller particle sizes could quickly be produced using a shaking technique. The size of EGaIn NDs produced using this technique can reach 200 nm in 30 min and 100 nm in 240 min. Benefiting from the simple method, various surfactants can directly modify the surface of the EGaIn NDs to stabilize the prepared droplets. In addition, we discovered that shaking in an ice bath produced spherical nanodroplets, and after shaking for 30 min in a non-ice bath, rod-shaped gallium oxide hydroxide (GaOOH) appeared. Furthermore, the EGaIn NDs we produced have excellent stability&mdash, after storage at room temperature for 30 days, the particle size and morphology change little. The excellent stability of the produced EGaIn NDs provides a wider application of liquid metals in the fields of drug delivery, electromagnetic shielding, conductive inks, printed circuits, etc.

Abstract

Heat dissipation coatings with high thermal conductivity play an important role in the thermal management of many industrial applications. It is still a big challenge to prepare highly thermal conductive coatings in the industry. Herein, we report a novel approach to prepare highly conductive thermal polyurethane composite coatings which contain dopamine-modified conductive fillers. Graphene oxide (GO), carbon nanotube (CNT), and nano-diamond (ND) were used as two-dimensional (2D), one-dimensional (1D), and zero-dimensional (0D) thermal conductive fillers respectively. The thermal conductivity test results indicate that GO and CNT can form a “bridge-like” structure and build more heat conduction channels. The test shows that the 2D + 1D combination has better thermal conductivity and more synergistic effect than the 2D + 0D combination.

Abstract

Liquid metal is increasingly attracting attention because of the fluidity properties and the electrical and thermal conductivity of metals. However, the preparation of stable liquid metal nanoparticles (LM NPs) is facing a great challenge. Liquid metal is prone to be oxidized when exposed to water and air. Because of the high density and surface tension, liquid metal tends to aggregate and precipitate. To address this challenge, we have developed a grinding technology that not only produces LM NPs with a narrower size distribution but also has high production efficiency and high concentration (more than 10 wt.%). A new polymer was synthesized to reduce the particle size and stabilize the NPs during the grinding process. The LM NPs stabilized with comb-like polymer have a smaller diameter of about 120 nm in deionized water and 80 nm in propylene glycol methyl ether (PM), which can maintain relative stability for a period of >90 days. The high concentration LM NPs play an important role in the fields of electronic product cooling, biomedicine, tissue engineering, intelligent hardware, 3 D printing, flexible electronics, artificial intelligence, aerospace, and so on. 36. Direct Printing of Disperse Dye Inks to Polyester Fabrics without Chemical Pretreatment

Abstract

Direct inkjet digital printing is a relatively green and environmentally friendly textile printing method with a wide range of applications in the textile printing and dyeing industry. However, pretreatment of the fabric is required before digital printing, which will generate certain energy consumption and wastewater. In this study, a digital direct inkjet printing method was developed to improve the printing accuracy of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics without any pretreatment. A kind of direct inkjet printing ink was prepared by the response change in temperature viscosity. The increase in viscosity inhibits ink bleeding on the fabric, thereby improving printing accuracy. A thermosensitive direct inkjet printing disperse dye ink was prepared by adding cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and 3-methylsalicylic acid (3MS) to the ink. By evaluating the changes in the ink particle size, shear viscosity, and temperature viscosity, it was found that this thermosensitive ink has an excellent average particle size and special changes in viscosity with increasing temperature. When this heat-sensitive ink is printed on a polyester fabric, the fabric does not need pretreatment to improve the clarity of printing, and the printed fabric has satisfactory color fastness to friction and washing.
