Abstract

It is a critical issue to reduce the enormous amount of data in the processing, storage and transmission of a hologram in digital format. In photograph compression, the JPEG standard is commonly supported by almost every system and device. It will be favorable if JPEG standard is applicable to hologram compression, with advantages of universal compatibility. However, the reconstructed image from a JPEG compressed hologram suffers from severe quality degradation since some high frequency features in the hologram will be lost during the compression process. In this work, we employ a deep convolutional neural network to reduce the artifacts in a JPEG compressed hologram. Simulation and experimental results reveal that our proposed "JPEG + deep learning" hologram compression scheme can achieve satisfactory reconstruction results for a computer-generated phase-only hologram after compression.

Abstract

We propose a method to generate arbitrary perfect Poincaré beams using one spatial light modulator (SLM). A polarization beam splitter is used to generate two polarization beams that are orthogonally (x and y) polarized. Half of the SLM helps shape the x-polarized beam; simultaneously, the other half of the SLM shapes the y-polarized beam. By adding different or the same spiral phases to the orthogonally polarized beams, any point on the Poincaré surface can be reached. The proposed approach is experimentally evaluated. The ring diameter remains the same when different polarization orders and topological charges are programmed. The generation of perfect Poincaré beams including fundamental Poincaré sphere, high-order Poincaré sphere, and hybrid Poincaré sphere are demonstrated in our system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Digital micromirror devices (DMDs), owing to their rapid refresh rates, are among the most commonly used spatial light modulators in holographic three-dimensional near-eye displays. However, the modulation of DMD is typically confined to binary amplitude modulation, resulting in a noticeable presence of zero-order and conjugate noise, which significantly occupies the spatial bandwidth of the display optics and reduces the quality of optical reconstruction. To address these issues, we propose a computational framework of generating optimized binary computer-generated holograms for DMD-based holographic near-eye displays. Our work employs an iterative-based optimization strategy within a band-limited diffraction computation, thereby enhancing the display quality while achieving a considerable field of view by eliminating zero-order and conjugate noise. The proposed method is verified experimentally by displaying true three-dimensional images with low speckle noise and high contrast, opening a path towards next-generation of virtual reality/augmented reality display devices. 33. Identification and Expression Profiling Analysis of the Cation/Ca2+ Exchanger (CCX) Gene Family: Overexpression of SlCCX1-LIKE Regulates the Leaf Senescence in Tomato Flowering Phase.

Abstract

Cation gradients in plant cellular compartments are maintained by the synergistic actions of various ion exchangers, pumps, and channels. Cation/Ca2+ exchanger (CCX) is one of the clades of the Ca2+/cation antiporter super family. Here, five SlCCX genes were identified in tomato. Sequence analysis indicated that SlCCXs have the conserved motifs as the CCX domain. Analysis of the expression level of each member of tomato CCX gene family under cation (Mg2+, Mn2+, Na+, and Ca2+) treatment was determined by qRT-PCR. Tomato CCX demonstrated different degrees of responding to cation treatment. Changes in SlCCX1-LIKE expression was induced by Mg2+ and Mn2+ treatment. Analysis of the expression of SlCCX genes in different tissues demonstrated that constitutive high expression of a few genes, including SlCCX1-LIKE and SlCCX5 , indicated their role in tomato organ growth and development. Overexpression of SlCCX1-LIKE dramatically induced leaf senescence. Transcriptome analysis showed that genes related to ROS and several IAA signaling pathways were significantly downregulated, whereas ETH and ABA signaling pathway-related genes were upregulated in overexpression of SlCCX1-LIKE (OE-SlCCX1-LIKE) plants, compared with the wild type (WT). Moreover, overexpression of SlCCX1-LIKE plants accumulated more ROS content but less Mg2+ content. Collectively, the findings of this study provide insights into the base mechanism through which CCXs regulate leaf senescence in tomato. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
