Abstract

In connection with observations made on the impact of beach placer mining, a study area extending from Poompuhar to Nagoor, in Tamil Nadu, had been chosen for regular profiling and sediment sampling since April 2003. The on-set of the tsunami of 26th December 2004 encouraged continuation of the study in order to understand the sudden changes in the sedimentological processes caused by this tsunami. As a profiling survey of the area had been completed on 16th December 2004, an exact quantum of erosion level caused by the tsunami was determined for several stations. Except for Nagoor, all other stations showed erosion of the beaches, with a maximum of 2.5 m, particularly in the Karaikkal area. The study identified two major geomorphologic parts, the first extending from northern Poompuhar to Karaikkal and the second from southern Karaikkal to Nagoor. Changes in the geomorphologic characters observed at these two areas were attributed to the nature of the inner shelf bathymetry. The different beach profiles for the pre- and post-tsunami periods that were prepared through trend analysis, clearly show huge deposition of sediments on the Nagoor beaches. The influence of inlets in Karaikkal, Poompuhar and Nagoor are strongly indicated by the nature of sediments that were deposited on beaches at these locations. When the sediment texture of pre-tsunami deposits is compared with that of post- tsunami deposits, a characteristic shift in kurtosis is observed on all the beaches, while skewness and mean establish a shift on beaches that eroded. Examination of heavy mineral composition in sediments indicates a dramatic shift in concentration, ranging from 19 to 76 % in the Nagoor area. Further study of sedimentological process may shed additional light on tsunami impacts on any beach in the study area, particularly because of the ongoing monitoring and the availability of past baseline records.

Abstract

Decades of research by the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) around the world have concluded that the two most powerful ways to grow and mature as a leader are by way of taking on challenging assignments, and by developing powerful relationships. With India being one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world, Indian CXOs have to lead in an extraordinarily dynamic and complex environment. As they rise in their organizations, CXOs need for leadership development becomes critical. This study endeavors to both to learn from these leaders and to help accelerate their progress. In this report, CXOs in India will receive specific guidance on what constitutes the critical leadership skills--and how to develop these. This report is intended to be a practical resource, one that executives can use regularly as a reference for self- and team development. It covers the following key points: (1) making experiences matter is key to success; (2) CXOs devote 60% of their time to 3 goals; (3) to achieve their goals, CXOs expect to refine their skills in 7 areas; (4) four experiences can help CXOs develop and refine the seven needed skills; and (5) follow a 6R framework to obtain the most learning out of experiences. Abstract

The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS -CoV- 2) accountable for the coronavirus dis - ease 2019 (Covid-19) prompted a catastrophic pandemic striking millions of people with diverse presentations, from asymptomatic to severe, potentially lethal disease requiring unprecedented levels of specialized care and extraordinary resources that have overwhelmed healthcare systems around the world. In this detailed commu- nication we postulating a novel hypothesis, based on the viral replication and transplantation immunology. This based on reviewing published journal articles and text book chapters to account for variable mortality and de- grees of morbidity among various race and origins. Homo sapiens evolution over millions of years, for that the matter the origin of any biologic form of life form initiated by microorganisms. The entire body of a human has several millions of bacterial and viral genomes incorporated over millions of years.
