Introduction: Injection pain is a common concern among patients, including those receiving dental injections. Local Anaesthesia (LA) is a crucial procedure in dentistry to ensure painless treatment. Vibration stimuli have shown promise in raising the pain threshold, managing orofacial pain, musculoskeletal pain, and relieving dental pain. However, many vibrotactile devices available in the market are not affordable for common dentists. Aim: To compare pain perception in patients undergoing bilateral extractions using OroQuiver-assisted LA administration versus conventional LA administration. Materials and Methods: A randomised split-mouth clinical trial was conducted with 17 patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral extractions. LA was administered with and without OroQuiver on the right and left-sides, respectively. Pain assessment was performed using Wong Baker's Facial Rating Scale and a questionnaire sheet comparing patient comfort following LA administration on both sides. Results: There was a significant difference in the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score for pain experienced during LA injections using the vibrotactile device (4.29±1.1) compared to the conventional method (7.2±1.5). None of the patients reported discomfort with the device. The device reduced anxiety towards dental injections in 14 patients, and 16 patients indicated they would recommend the device to others. Conclusion: OroQuiver effectively reduced injection-related pain regardless of the type of nerve block administered. Aim: To assess the accuracy of metastasis in cervical nodes using preoperative palpation method, ultrasonography with colour doppler (USG) and computed tomography (CT) in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methodology: Thirty‐one biopsy‐proven patients with OSCC who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. The nodal status of each was assessed by clinical palpation, USG and CT and compared with the post‐operative histopathological result. The results were evaluated statistically for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value and accuracy. Results: The accuracy of clinical palpation, USG and CT in diagnosing a node as metastatic was 70.9%, 100% and 87%, respectively, showing ultrasonography to be better than CT, followed by CT and clinical palpation. Conclusion: The accuracy and sensitivity of USG in the detection of cervical lymph node metastases make it a potentially promising and cheap preoperative tool for staging neck node metastases. Ankylosis is one of the most disruptive maladies affecting the masticatory system with trauma being the most common cause. Pseudoankylosis though uncommon can cause functional and psychological discomforts for the patient. Described here is operative management of a case of posttraumatic pseudoankylosis in a 27-year-old female, having fractured condylar head dislocated anteriorly and medially, with eventual fusion to sigmoid region. Retromandibular approach for condylar fracture has been advocated by many authors to be advantageous over other approaches given that they cause good cosmetic results, lower risk of facial nerve injury, reduced operation time. The rehabilitation of patients with edentulous alveolar ridge is always a challenge, more so in case of a long standing atrophic mandible. Mandible, the largest movable bone in the maxillofacial skeleton is associated with many soft tissue attachments which imparts dislodging forces to prosthesis. In addition to this, the rate of resorption of the mandibular ridge is four times that of the maxilla. These factors make the environment of the mandibular arch less favorable to complete denture stability and retention. An ideal solution would be to augment the atrophic alveolar ridge with native bone of the individual which shall eliminate the possible complications, associated with conventional ridge augmentation procedures. With advent of modern technology, and increased biological understanding, the principles of distraction osteogenesis are increasingly being applied to the craniofacial skeleton and have been found to be a viable option in augmenting the native alveolar bone in the mandible. A case of pleomorphic adenoma involving the minor salivary glands of the upper lip, in a 42-year-old man is reported. On gross examination, the tumor presented as a well circumscribed cystic lesion containing whitish cheese like material along with scanty solid areas. Microscopically cystic cavity exhibited keratin, cholesterol clefts and cell debris. A small amount of solid tumor elements was found to be associated with the cyst wall which helped in the confirmation of diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with wide spectrum of symptoms and few effective therapies. Evidence is suggestive of an association between immune system dysfunction and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) among children with ASD. Immunoglobulins (Ig) are found to be increased in the circulation of individuals with autism. The prospective study was aimed to estimate and correlate the levels of IgG4 in blood and saliva of children with autism., Methodology: Blood and unstimulated saliva were collected from 172 children (55 ASD, 57 healthy control, and 60 suspected parasitic infection) aged 0-18 years. Routine blood investigations were done. Serum and salivary IgG4 levels were analyzed using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. Data were subjected to statistical analysis., Results: ELISA tests showed that the IgG4 levels in serum and saliva were significantly increased (P<0.05) in children with ASD as compared to normal control children. Both serum and saliva IgG4 levels showed a significant positive correlation (P<0.05)., Conclusion: IgG4 can be used as a potential biomarker for the early detection of ASD. Further, saliva can be a diagnostic, noninvasive assessment tool for health monitoring of children with autism. Lay summary: The collection of saliva is easy and painless compared to other sample collection methods. The present study shows that, among children with autism, brain-reactive antibody, immunoglobulin G4 (gG4), is increased both in blood and saliva, and there is a significant correlation between the two levels. Aim: To analyze the efficacy of three different concentrations of Ocimum sanctum extract against various microorganisms, Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus sanguis, Lactobacillus acidophilus., Materials and Methods: Ethanolic extract of Ocimum sanctum was prepared by the hot extraction method. The extract was diluted with an inert solvent, dimethyl sulfoxide to obtain 3 different concentrations (2.5, 5 and 10%) of the extract. 0.2% chlorhexidine was used as a positive control and dimethyl sul-foxide was used as a negative control. The extract, along with the controls, was then subjected to microbiological investigation to determine which concentration among the 3 different concentrations of extract gave a wider inhibition zone against S. mutans, S. mitis, S. sanguis, L. acidophilus. The zones of inhibition were measured in millimeters., Results: Ocimum sanctum leaf extract demonstrated maximum antimicrobial activity against microorganisms responsible for dental caries at the 10% concentration level although 5 and 2.5% were also effective. Maximum activity was seen against S. mutans and S. sanguis with 10% extract., Conclusion: Ocimum sanctum leaf extract was effective against all the microorganisms. A mucocele is a common pathological lesion involving the minor salivary glands. It usually presents as an asymptomatic small superficial swelling over the lower labial mucosa. However, uncommon variants of oral mucoceles sometimes occur. Such lesions may be difficult to diagnose due to their unusual size and atypical clinical presentation. This article describes the case of a deeply embedded large mucocele over the buccal mucosa. Ultrasonography was used to visualize the size and position of the lesion, and aspiration was used to help in the eventual diagnosis. An intraoral approach was used in the complete removal of the lesion.
