Abstract Cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKX) is the key enzyme that has been observed to catalyze irreversible inactivation of cytokinins and thus modulate cytokinin levels in plants. CKX gene family is known to have few members which are, expanded in the genome mainly due to duplication events. A total of nine MiCKXs were identified in Morus indica cv K2 with almost similar gene structures and conserved motifs and domains. The cis-elements along with expression analysis of these MiCKXs revealed their contrasting and specific role in plant development across different developmental stages. The localization of these enzymes in ER and Golgi bodies signifies their functional specification and property of getting modified post-translationally to carry out their activities. The overexpression of MiCKX4, an ortholog of AtCKX4, displayed longer primary root and higher number of lateral roots. Under ABA stress also the transgenic lines showed higher number of lateral roots and tolerance against drought stress as compared to wild-type plants. In this study, the CKX gene family members were analyzed bioinformatically for their roles under abiotic stresses.

Background and Aims: Data focussing on acute kidney injury (AKI) in obstetric patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) are scarce and even more so regarding the role of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalcin (NGAL) in detecting AKI or predicting outcomes in these patients. Hence, we aim to evaluate the incidence of AKI in obstetric ICU patients and validate the role of urinary and serum NGAL in predicting the onset of AKI and mortality. Methods: This prospective observational cohort included 45 obstetric patients admitted in ICU, excluding those with prior renal dysfunction. Serum creatinine and urine output were monitored for the occurrence of AKI during the ICU stay. The outcome of the patient (survival or death) in the ICU and hospital was recorded, and serum and urinary NGAL were determined at the time of ICU admission. Results: AKI occurred in 32 [71.1%; 95% confidence interval (CI): 55.4%, 86.8%] patients during their ICU stay. Serum NGAL showed an area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROCC) of 0.630 (95% CI: 0.417, 0.842) (P = 0.231) for AKI and 0.486 (95% CI: 0.295, 0.676) (P = 0.883) for ICU mortality. Urinary NGAL showed AUROC = 0.472 (95% CI: 0.285, 0.660) (P = 0.772) to predict AKI and 0.430 (95% CI: 0.268, 0.652) (P = 0.684) for ICU mortality. Conclusions: AKI is common amongst critically ill obstetric ICU patients. However, serum and urinary NGAL cannot be advocated to discriminate between patients with or without AKI or between survivors and non-survivors in critically ill obstetric patients.

Abstract Integrating innovation and environmental responsibility has become important in pursuing sustainable industrial practices in the contemporary world. These twin imperatives have stimulated research into developing methods that optimize industrial processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness while mitigating undesirable ecological impacts. This objective is exemplified by the emergence of biochar derived from the thermo-chemical transformation of biomass. This review examines biochar production methods and their potential applications across various aspects of the iron and steel industries (ISI). The technical, economic, and sustainable implications of integrating biochar into the ISI were explored. Slow pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonization are the most efficient methods for higher biochar yield (25–90%). Biochar has several advantages- higher heating value (30–32 MJ/kg), more porosity (58.22%), and significantly larger surface area (113 m2/g) compared to coal and coke. However, the presence of biochar often reduces fluidity in a coal-biochar mixture. The findings highlighted that biochar production and implementation in ISI often come with higher costs, primarily due to the higher expense of substitute fuels compared to traditional fossil fuels. The economic viability and societal desirability of biochar are highly uncertain and vary significantly based on factors such as location, feedstock type, production scale, and biochar pricing, among others. Furthermore, biomass and biochar supply chain is another important factor which determines its large scale implementation. Despite these challenges, there are opportunities to reduce emissions from BF-BOF operations by utilizing biochar technologies. Overall, the present study explored integrating diverse biochar production methods into the ISI aiming to contribute to the ongoing research on sustainable manufacturing practices, underscoring their significance in shaping a more environmentally conscious future.

Abstract Background Hereditary transient neonatal hyperparathyroidism (TNHP) is a rare autosomal-recessive condition caused by variants in TRPV6 gene which encodes for a transient maternal–fetal calcium transport channel. This is characterized by interference with placental maternal–fetal calcium transport causing fetal calcium deficiency. It primarily manifests as defective bone mineralization, narrow and bell-shaped thorax, bone fractures and short bones at birth. The current study aimed to describe a novel TRPV6 variant linked with TNHP in an Indian family and the review of literature. Case presentation The proband is a term female neonate with fetal growth restriction born to a third-degree consanguineous couple. She was noted to have diffuse defective bone mineralization, narrow and bell-shaped thoracic cavity, short bones and curved ribs without any bone fractures. The first pregnancy was affected with similar features in the fetus and had been terminated. Parental whole-exome sequencing suggested heterozygous missense variant in exon 12 of the TRPV6 gene (c.1585G > A, p.Asp529Asn) in both the parents. The proband required non-invasive respiratory support for ten days in neonatal intensive care unit. She had low calcium and high parathyroid hormone (PTH) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels. She received calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D supplements for three months leading to normalization of serum PTH and ALP levels. Whole-exome sequencing of the proband suggested a homozygous missense variant in exon 12 of the TRPV6 gene (p.Asp529Asn; ENST00000359396.9) that results in the amino acid substitution of asparagine for aspartic acid at codon 529. To the best of author’s knowledge, this is the twelfth case of TNHP reported in literature. The novel variant of TRPV6 gene present in this family has not been reported earlier. Conclusion Our finding broadens the genotypic spectrum of TNHP.

Abstract In this study, we investigate the profound impact of the Pöschl–Teller double-ring-shaped Coulomb (PTDRSC) potential to induce persistent currents within the S-states of the hydrogenic atom. The confinement of the system is achieved through an impenetrable spherical boundary. Leveraging first-order perturbation theory, we quantify the charge current across various states induced by the PTDRSC potential with its inherent angular and azimuthal dependence, leading to angular and azimuthal distortion, respectively. Notably, persistent currents are observed within S-states without external excitation mechanisms. The magnitude of the induced current is intricately linked to the strength of the PTDRSC potential parameters. These results underscore the prospect of manipulating persistent currents and their associated induced magnetic fields within S-states by tailoring the potential strength and confining boundary size. This discovery presents a compelling avenue for the controlled generation and experimental verification of induced S-state magnetism, opening new possibilities for innovative applications.

Abstract This study aims to decipher crucial biomarkers regulated by p73 for the early detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) by employing a combination of integrative bioinformatics and expression profiling techniques. The transcriptome profile of HCT116 cell line p53 $$^{-/-}$$ - / - p73 $$^{+/+}$$ + / + and p53 $$^{-/-}$$ - / - p73 knockdown was performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). This was corroborated with three CRC tissue expression datasets available in Gene Expression Omnibus. Further analysis involved KEGG and Gene ontology to elucidate the functional roles of DEGs. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using Cytoscape to identify hub genes. Kaplan–Meier (KM) plots along with GEPIA and UALCAN database analysis provided the insights into the prognostic and diagnostic significance of these hub genes. Machine/deep learning algorithms were employed to perform TNM-stage classification. Transcriptome profiling revealed 1289 upregulated and 1897 downregulated genes. When intersected with employed CRC datasets, 284 DEGs were obtained. Comprehensive analysis using gene ontology and KEGG revealed enrichment of the DEGs in metabolic process, fatty acid biosynthesis, etc. The PPI network constructed using these 284 genes assisted in identifying 20 hub genes. Kaplan–Meier, GEPIA, and UALCAN analyses uncovered the clinicopathological relevance of these hub genes. Conclusively, the deep learning model achieved TNM-stage classification accuracy of 0.78 and 0.75 using 284 DEGs and 20 hub genes, respectively. The study represents a pioneer endeavor amalgamating transcriptomics, publicly available tissue datasets, and machine learning to unveil key CRC-associated genes. These genes are found relevant regarding the patients’ prognosis and diagnosis. The unveiled biomarkers exhibit robustness in TNM-stage prediction, thereby laying the foundation for future clinical applications and therapeutic interventions in CRC management.

Abstract Background Hypertension is one of the burning topics in today’s world. Natural product can open a new window in the treatment as they are lesser side effect compared to synthetic compounds. Paederia foetida a naturally occurring plant has proven its biological importance in many aspects. In this present study, the ethanolic extract of Paederia foetida has effectively proven its antihypertensive activity against Amphetamine-induced hypertension. Results The study was carried out for 4 weeks with five different groups where the groups receiving Paederia foetida (400 mg/kg) for 4 weeks result in decrease in blood pressure and was found helpful in maintaining the sodium and potassium balance in rat’s serum. Amphetamine induces decreasing sodium level that can be countered by Paederia foetida whole plant extract. Geniposide, an active ingredient present in this plant, is having antihypertensive activity, so it was docked against different PDB IDs (3OLL, 3OLS, 5DX3, 5DXE & 6PIT), to find its anti-hypertension effectiveness through computational chemistry. The docking investigations identified that estrogen receptor (PDB ID: 3OLS) exhibited the highest possibility to be the site of action. Docking score of Geniposide with 3OLS was -8.91 which is quit comparable with the internal ligand Estradiol. Conclusion To assess the binding affinity of Geniposide with the estrogen receptor, an additional molecular dynamics simulation was conducted. The result strongly suggests that Geniposide has the potential to function as an activator of estrogen receptor through of β-ligand binding. This key finding reveals that Geniposide may serve as a potential in the treatment of hypertension by modulating the activity of the estrogen receptor.

Abstract Background Increasing patient loads, healthcare inflation and ageing population have put pressure on the healthcare system. Artificial intelligence and machine learning innovations can aid in task shifting to help healthcare systems remain efficient and cost effective. To gain an understanding of patients’ acceptance toward such task shifting with the aid of AI, this study adapted the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2), looking at performance and effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, social influence, hedonic motivation and behavioural intention. Methods This was a cross-sectional study which took place between September 2021 to June 2022 at the National Heart Centre, Singapore. One hundred patients, aged ≥ 21 years with at least one heart failure symptom (pedal oedema, New York Heart Association II-III effort limitation, orthopnoea, breathlessness), who presented to the cardiac imaging laboratory for physician-ordered clinical echocardiogram, underwent both echocardiogram by skilled sonographers and the experience of echocardiogram by a novice guided by AI technologies. They were then given a survey which looked at the above-mentioned constructs using the UTAUT2 framework. Results Significant, direct, and positive effects of all constructs on the behavioral intention of accepting the AI-novice combination were found. Facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation and performance expectancy were the top 3 constructs. The analysis of the moderating variables, age, gender and education levels, found no impact on behavioral intention. Conclusions These results are important for stakeholders and changemakers such as policymakers, governments, physicians, and insurance companies, as they design adoption strategies to ensure successful patient engagement by focusing on factors affecting the facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation and performance expectancy for AI technologies used in healthcare task shifting.

IntroductionRecent advances in generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) have led to the development of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT, which have numerous practical applications. Notably, these models assist programmers with coding queries, debugging, solution suggestions, and providing guidance on software development tasks. Despite known issues with the accuracy of ChatGPT’s responses, its comprehensive and articulate language continues to attract frequent use. This indicates potential for ChatGPT to support educators and serve as a virtual tutor for students.MethodsTo explore this potential, we conducted a comprehensive analysis comparing the emotional content in responses from ChatGPT and human answers to 2000 questions sourced from Stack Overflow (SO). The emotional aspects of the answers were examined to understand how the emotional tone of AI responses compares to that of human responses.ResultsOur analysis revealed that ChatGPT’s answers are generally more positive compared to human responses. In contrast, human answers often exhibit emotions such as anger and disgust. Significant differences were observed in emotional expressions between ChatGPT and human responses, particularly in the emotions of anger, disgust, and joy. Human responses displayed a broader emotional spectrum compared to ChatGPT, suggesting greater emotional variability among humans.DiscussionThe findings highlight a distinct emotional divergence between ChatGPT and human responses, with ChatGPT exhibiting a more uniformly positive tone and humans displaying a wider range of emotions. This variance underscores the need for further research into the role of emotional content in AI and human interactions, particularly in educational contexts where emotional nuances can impact learning and communication.

Multi-functional textiles have become a growing trend among smart customers who dream of having multiple functionalities in a single product. Thus, this study aimed to develop a multi-functional textile from a common textile substrate like cotton equipped with electrically conductive, anti-bacterial, and flame-retardant properties. Herein, a bunch of compounds from various sources like petro-based poly-aniline (PANI), phosphoric acid (H3PO4), inorganic silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs), and biomass-sourced fish scale protein (FSP) were used. The coating was prepared via in-situ polymerization of PANI with the cotton substrate, followed by the dipping in AGNPs solution, layer-by-layer deposition of FSP and sodium alginate, and finally, a dip-dry-cure technique after immersing the modified cotton substrate into the H3PO4 and citric acid solution. The key results indicated that the fabric treated with PANI/Ag-NPs/FSP/P-compound exhibited a balanced improvement in all three desired properties as the electrical resistance was reduced by 44.44 % while showing superior bacterial inhibition against gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli), and produced dense-black carbonaceous char residues, indicating its flame retardant properties as well. Thus, such amicable developments made the cotton textile substrate a multi-functional textile, which showed potential to be used in medical textiles, wearable electronics, fire-fighter suits, etc.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are at the forefront of nanotechnology-based advancements in cancer therapy, particularly in the field of targeted drug delivery. The nanotubes are characterized by their concentric graphene layers, which give them outstanding structural strength. They can deliver substantial doses of therapeutic agents, potentially reducing treatment frequency and improving patient compliance. MWCNTs’ diminutive size and modifiable surface enable them to have a high drug loading capacity and penetrate biological barriers. As a result of the extensive research on these nanomaterials, they have been studied extensively as synthetic and chemically functionalized molecules, which can be combined with various ligands (such as folic acid, antibodies, peptides, mannose, galactose, polymers) and linkers, and to deliver anticancer drugs, including but not limited to paclitaxel, docetaxel, cisplatin, doxorubicin, tamoxifen, methotrexate, quercetin and others, to cancer cells. This functionalization facilitates selective targeting of cancer cells, as these ligands bind to specific receptors overexpressed in tumor cells. By sparing non-cancerous cells and delivering the therapeutic payload precisely to cancer cells, this therapeutic payload delivery ability reduces chemotherapy systemic toxicity. There is great potential for MWCNTs to be used as targeted delivery systems for drugs. In this review, we discuss techniques for functionalizing and conjugating MWCNTs to drugs using natural and biomacromolecular linkers, which can bind to the cancer cells’ receptors/biomolecules. Using MWCNTs to administer cancer drugs is a transformative approach to cancer treatment that combines nanotechnology and pharmacotherapy. It is an exciting and rich field of research to explore and optimize MWCNTs for drug delivery purposes, which could result in significant benefits for cancer patients.

An increased rate of death of Spotted deer (Axis axis) at Jungle Mahal Zoological Park, Jhargram, West Bengal, India was observed. Many other spotted deer of the herd were observed losing body weight. Their body weight was reduced gradually despite the provision of optimum nutrients. During post-mortem examination of the dead spotted deer, typical tuberculosis findings were observed. Samples were sent to the laboratories and were found to be Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) positive. Treatment of MTB was started accordingly. After the treatment phase, multiple samples were sent again to the laboratories and all the samples were negative as per the laboratory reports. It is the first positive report of MTB in Spotted deer in West Bengal, India.

Abstract Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) are inert structures with high aspect ratios that are widely used as vehicles for targeted drug delivery in cancer and many other diseases. They are largely non-toxic in nature however, when cells are exposed to these nanotubes for prolonged durations or at high concentrations, they show certain adverse effects. These include cytotoxicity, inflammation, generation of oxidative stress, and genotoxicity among others. To combat such adverse effects, various moieties can be attached to the surface of these nanotubes. Curcumin is a known anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and cytoprotective compound derived from a medicinal plant called Curcuma longa. In this study, we have synthesized and characterized Curcumin coated-lysine functionalized MWCNTs and further evaluated the cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiapoptotic effect of Curcumin coating on the surface of MWCNTs. The results show a significant decrease in the level of inflammatory molecules like IL-6, IL-8, IL-1β, TNFα and NFκB in cells exposed to Curcumin-coated MWCNTs as compared to the uncoated ones at both transcript and protein levels. Further, compared to the uncoated samples, there is a reduction in ROS production and upregulation of antioxidant enzyme-Catalase in the cells treated with Curcumin-coated MWCNTs. Curcumin coating also helped in recovery of mitochondrial membrane potential in the cells exposed to MWCNTs. Lastly, cells exposed to Curcumin-coated MWCNTs showed reduced cell death as compared to the ones exposed to uncoated MWCNTs. Our findings suggest that coating of Curcumin on the surface of MWCNTs reduces its ability to cause inflammation, oxidative stress, and cell death. Abstract Introduction This case study reports on a suicide attempt involving indoxacarb and vitamin C. Indoxacarb is a neurotoxic insecticide used in agriculture and as a flea controller in pets. Cotton, vegetables, and fruits are treated with indoxacarb, an insecticide that can be applied both indoors and outdoors. It causes skin allergies, methemoglobinemia, and hemolytic anemia. It is also attributed to allergic reactions through ingestion, inhalation, physical contact, and translaminar action. This case report highlights use of vitamin C in methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb poisoning. Indoxacarb poisoning has the potential to be extremely serious and even lethal. In this instance, the patient initially had no symptoms after ingesting a substance containing indoxacarb in an attempt at suicide. However, further tests revealed methemoglobinemia and low oxygen levels. Case presentation A 28-year-old south-east Asian female patient ingested an insecticide containing 5.25% novaluron, 4.5% indoxacarb, and 25% thiamethoxam, and reported that she noticed muddy brown urine but presented with no active signs or symptoms of poisoning. Upon examination, the patient was fully conscious, alert, and hemodynamically stable, but had an oxygen saturation of 84%. Gastric lavage was performed, and blood investigations revealed a muddy-brown-colored blood sample and methemoglobin levels of 12%. The patient was treated with high-dose vitamin C and showed significant improvement, with a drop in methemoglobin levels to 1.2% and an increase in oxygen saturation to 97%. Discussion Indoxacarb poisoning can cause severe methemoglobinemia. Vitamin C may be a useful treatment option for methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb, particularly in cases in which traditional treatment with methylene blue is contraindicated or not tolerated. Hence high doses of ascorbic acid, that is, vitamin C, were administered to the patient, which lowered their methemoglobin levels and improved oxygen levels without much safety concerns. Conclusion This example emphasizes the significance of early indoxacarb poisoning detection and treatment as well as the possible advantages of utilizing ascorbic acid in the management of methemoglobinemia, and highlights the use of vitamin C in the treatment of methemoglobinemia caused by indoxacarb poisoning. Therefore, it is important for healthcare professionals to be aware of the potential for indoxacarb to cause methemoglobinemia and to consider vitamin C as a treatment option.

Abstract Background Heart failure (HF) and diabetes are associated with increased incidence and worse prognosis of each other. The prognostic value of global longitudinal strain (GLS) measured by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has not been established in HF patients with diabetes. Methods In this prospective, observational study, consecutive patients (n = 315) with HF underwent CMR at 3T, including GLS, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), native T1, and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) mapping. Plasma biomarker concentrations were measured including: N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP), high-sensitivity troponin T(hs-TnT), growth differentiation factor 15(GDF-15), soluble ST2(sST2), and galectin 3(Gal-3). AbstractIce cream is a frozen mixture comprising milk, cream, sugar, milk solids-not-fat, stabilizers, and emulsifiers. This study explores the production of ice cream using a Scraped Surface Freezer (SSF) combined with a liquid nitrogen (LN2) freezing technique. The innovative approach involves utilizing liquid nitrogen as a refrigerant and employing gaseous nitrogen released during heat transfer to control the overrun in the final ice cream product. The experimental investigation of SSF involved examining the draw temperature of ice cream and determining its overall heat transfer coefficient. The drawing temperature of −6 °C and overall heat transfer coefficient close to 300 W/(m2°C) was obtained after the process optimization. To better understand what occurs inside SSF, numerical simulation using ANSYS Fluent was used to acquire the flow parameters such as temperature, pressure, and velocity. The flow profile was obtained under the reference operating conditions: feed flow rate = 240 lit/hr, LN2 temperature = −95 °C, and scraper speed =125 rpm. The computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) results reveal confined flow between blades and the inner heat transfer tube surface, causing a directional velocity change. Due to this recirculation, a faster decrease in temperature was observed in this area. The results of the experimental investigation of the SSF were rigorously compared with the CFD results. Based on numerical simulations, the initial freezing point in SSF occurred at an axial distance of 0.2 m.

AbstractThe agricultural tractor serves as a pivotal power source on the farm. However, the optimal utilization of tractor power has often been hindered by factors such as non-matching implement sizes and suboptimal operating skills, leading to underutilization of power potential across diverse field conditions. In response, a study was initiated to formulate a cost-effective embedded system capable of on-the-go digital display and recording of various field performance parameters, ensuring precision in geographical location tracking. An embedded system, seamlessly incorporating a global positioning system (GPS), was successfully integrated onto an agricultural tractor to facilitate the mapping of tractor-implement performance. The developed embedded system employed Hall effect sensors for measuring theoretical speeds at both tractor rear drive wheels, as well as the actual speed at the tractor front wheel. Additionally, forces at the tractor’s three-point linkages were quantified with the assistance of a three-point hitch dynamometer, and tillage depth at the tractor rockshaft was measured using a rotary potentiometer. The obtained data exhibited exemplary results. This comprehensive and integrated system demonstrated the capability to measure, display and record real-time performance parameters, coupled with their precise geographical locations. The system underwent extensive and successful field demonstrations, particularly in the spatial mapping of tractor-implement field performance, utilizing a mounted offset disk harrow and a rigid tine cultivator.

Background The relationship of serial NT‐proBNP (N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide) measurements with changes in cardiac features and outcomes in heart failure (HF) remains incompletely understood. We determined whether common clinical covariates impact these relationships. Methods and Results In 2 nationwide observational populations with HF, the relationship of serial NT‐proBNP measurements with serial echocardiographic parameters and outcomes was analyzed, further stratified by HF with reduced versus preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, inpatient versus outpatient enrollment, age, obesity, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation, and attainment of ≥50% guideline‐recommended doses of renin‐angiotensin system inhibitors and β‐blockers. Among 1911 patients (mean±SD age, 65.1±13.4 years; 26.6% women; 62% inpatient and 38% outpatient), NT‐proBNP declined overall, with more rapid declines among inpatients, those with obesity, those with atrial fibrillation, and those attaining ≥50% guideline‐recommended doses. Each doubling of NT‐proBNP was associated with increases in left ventricular volume (by 6.1 mL), E/e′ (transmitral to mitral annular early diastolic velocity ratio) (by 1.4 points), left atrial volume (by 3.6 mL), and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (by −2.1%). Background The effect of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) variability on adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) is unclear. We aim to investigate the predictive value of HbA1c variability on the risks of all‐cause death and HF rehospitalization in patients with HF irrespective of their diabetic status. Methods and Results Using a previously validated territory‐wide clinical data registry, HbA1c variability was assessed by average successive variability (ASV) or SD of all HbA1c measurements after HF diagnosis. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) and its corresponding 95% CI. A total of 65 950 patients with HF were included in the study. Over a median follow‐up of 6.7 (interquartile range, 4.0–10.6) years, 34 508 patients died and 52 446 required HF rehospitalization. Every unit increment of variability in HbA1c was significantly associated with higher HF rehospitalization (HR ASV, 1.20 [95% CI, 1.18–1.23]) and all‐cause death (HR ASV, 1.50 [95% CI, 1.47–1.53]). Abstract Background Recruitment of internationally qualified nurses as a labour source is a long‐standing human resource strategy being implemented to address the current and increasing global nursing shortage. Internationally qualified nurses transitioning into the health workforce of developed countries following immigration often possess specialty skills. A lack of a clear pathway of specialty skill utilisation makes recognising and using these specialty skills complex for many nurses. The ability for nurses to transition between countries and maintain specialty practice demands immediate attention in the current atmosphere of the global pandemic and the predictions to recruit more specialist nurses from overseas. Aim To identify and synthesise strategies taken by various developed countries in transitioning specialist internationally qualified nurses into practice. Methods An integrative review was conducted to identify common themes, patterns, and best practices in order to inform policy development and improve the successful integration of internationally qualified nurses into the healthcare systems of developed countries. The study employed the Whittemore and Knafl five‐stage integrative review approach. To conduct a comprehensive search, four electronic databases, namely Medline, CINAHL Complete, ProQuest Health, and EMBASE, were systematically searched in October 2021. The search was updated in March 2022 to ensure the inclusion of the most recent literature. Additionally, Google Scholar was utilised to avoid overlooking any important articles. Prior to the full‐text review, three reviewers independently evaluated titles and abstracts. The included papers' quality was determined using the JBI critical appraisal tools. Results This study included 10 papers, comprising three studies and seven reports. However, none of these documents provided information on how internationally qualified nurses could transfer their specialty skills acquired overseas to developed countries after immigrating. The guidelines and policies reviewed only offered generic advice on becoming a specialist nurse. Although some countries mentioned that post‐graduate qualifications were not mandatory for nurse specialists, the majority of documents in this review emphasised the need for a national framework of education at level eight or higher (equivalent to a post‐graduate level) to attain the status of a nurse specialist. Moreover, the included documents did not provide clear information on whether an international specialisation degree would be recognised during the registration process. As a result, confusion persists regarding the requirement of post‐graduate qualifications for nurses aiming to specialise and the recognition of international specialisation degrees during the registration process. Discussion The lack of consistency in defining nurse specialty and the skill transferability among institutions and state borders were evident in this review. According to all the 10 documents analysed, developed countries appear to have minimum policies on the transfer of internationally qualified nurse's specialty skills. Recommendations for policymakers, employers, and aspirant migrants have been proposed. Limited research has been done on how developed countries used their internationally qualified nurses' overseas‐acquired specialist skills after immigration, indicating a lack of a distinct specialist skill transition pathway. Conclusions This review presents data to support the need for greater research in this area to better utilise the abilities that internationally qualified nurses bring from their home country and put them to constructive use in the host country, especially in the context of a global pandemic.

Abstract Background Medical thoracoscopy is an essential tool in the evaluation of patients with pleural effusion who remain undiagnosed despite a thorough pleural fluid workup. Malignancy and tuberculosis are the two most common etiologies in such patients having completely different prognoses. Therefore, correct diagnosis is very important before starting treatment. This study was planned to study the yield of rigid thoracoscopy in such patients and to observe its associated complications. Furthermore, the difference in the profile of patients with malignancy and tuberculosis was also evaluated. Methods This was a single-center, exploratory, observational study done between 1st May 2021 to 31st December 2022. Patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion defined as exudative pleural effusions as per Light’s criteria with negative Gene X pert and twice negative pleural fluid cytology for malignancy, underwent rigid thoracoscopy for confirmation of their diagnosis. Results A total of 160 patients, who fulfilled our inclusion criteria, were included in our study. Male to female ratio was 1.25:1, with a mean age of 57.3 years. The most common etiology observed was malignancy, seen in 120 out of 160 patients (75%), followed by tuberculosis, which was seen in 27 (17%) patients. A final diagnosis could be made in 158 patients, giving a diagnostic yield of 98.8%. 11.8% showed procedure-related complications without any mortality. Conclusion Rigid medical thoracoscopy has a very high diagnostic yield with few complications. A significant proportion of patients with straw-colored effusion can present with malignancy and vice versa. A few with ADA above 40 were diagnosed as having malignancy. Therefore, tissue-based biopsy with thoracoscopy can be easily performed to make a correct diagnosis with huge future implications in such patients.

Biomass solid fuel (BSF) has emerged as a promising renewable energy source, but its morphological and microstructural properties are crucial in determining their physical, mechanical, and chemical characteristics. This paper provides an overview of recent research on BSF. The focus is on biomass sources, BSF processing methods, and morphological and microstructural properties, with a special emphasis on energy-related studies. Specific inclusion and exclusion criteria were established for the study to ensure relevance. The inclusion criteria encompassed studies about BSFs and studies investigating the influence of biomass sources and processing methods on the morphological and microstructural properties of solid fuels within the past five years. Various technologies for converting biomass into usable energy were discussed, including gasification, torrefaction, carbonization, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), and pyrolysis. Each has advantages and disadvantages in energy performance, techno-economics, and climate impact. Gasification is efficient but requires high investment. Pyrolysis produces bio-oil, char, and gases based on feedstock availability. Carbonization generates low-cost biochar for solid fuels and carbon sequestration applications. Torrefaction increases energy density for co-firing with coal. HTC processes wet biomass efficiently with lower energy input. Thermal treatment affects BSF durability and strength, often leading to less durability due to voids and gaps between particles. Hydrothermal carbonization alters surface morphology, creating cavities, pores, and distinctive shapes. Slow pyrolysis generates biochar with better morphological properties, while fast pyrolysis yields biochar with lower porosity and surface area. Wood constitutes 67% of the biomass sources utilized for bioenergy generation, followed by wood residues (5%), agro-residues (4%), municipal solid wastes (3%), energy crops (3%), livestock wastes (3%), and forest residues (1%). Each source has advantages and drawbacks, such as availability, cost, environmental impact, and suitability for specific regions and energy requirements. This review is valuable for energy professionals, researchers, and policymakers interested in biomass solid fuel.

This study focuses on human resource management (HRM) practices that encourage employee engagement. It aims to explore the relationship between HRM practices and employee engagement and also investigates the moderating role of employee gender between both variables. The study applied a cross-sectional research design alongside correlational and regression analysis to evaluate the responses of 410 employees working in unicorn startups based in Gurgaon, New Delhi, and Mumbai through the structured survey questionnaires. Regarding the respondents’ gender, the majority are male (70%), and female constitutes 30%. However, the study results demonstrated that no matter an employee’s age or gender, effective HRM practices have a strong positive correlation with employee engagement (β = 0.93; p < 0.001). The results of the regression model show that HRM practices have explained 87% of the variance in employee engagement, which indicates that most of the employee engagement level depends on the best HRM practices of the organization. The gender differences do not significantly moderate this relationship. The F value in ANOVA analysis showed the overall significance of the model. The findings illustrated that by improving skills and promoting employee engagement, individuals experience heightened satisfaction levels and assume greater responsibility for their assigned duties. Abstract: Objective: The study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of non-adherence to medications among patients with type 2 diabetes attending a lifestyle clinic in a tertiary care hospital in West Bengal, India; to identify the environmental barriers to self-care practices, including diet, exercise, glucose testing and medication; and to identify the socio-demographic and environmental determinants of medication non-adherence. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed among the patients with type 2 diabetes taking oral hypoglycemic drugs and attending a lifestyle clinic of a teaching hospital in 2021. The participants were interviewed in clinical settings via a structured questionnaire in the local language. Medication adherence was assessed with Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS), and environmental barriers were assessed with the Environmental Barrier Assessment Scale (EBAS). Results: Among 178 participants, a high level of adherence (MMAS score 8.0) was found among 3 (1.7%) participants, and moderate adherence (MMAS score 6.0 to 7.75) was found among 67 (37.6%; 95% CI 30.3%, 44.9%) participants. The prevalence of non-adherence was 60.7% (95% CI: 53.4%, 68.0%). The overall mean barrier score was 134 (SD 13). All environmental barrier components were distributed equally among the predictor variables except the diet score, which was lower among men (mean difference 1.3; 95% CI: 0.04, 2.5) and people with higher education (mean difference 1.8; 95% CI: 0.6, 3.1). Conclusion: The study indicated poor adherence to OHA in this population. Barriers to self-care practice and medication adherence were observed acrross all socio-economic strata. Poor medication adherence poses a major challenge to clinicians and public health experts in achieving treatment goals.

Nanocellulose, especially originating from a natural source, has already shown immense potential to be considered in various fields, namely packaging, papermaking, composites, biomedical engineering, flame retardant, and thermal insulating materials, etc. due to its environmental friendliness and novel functionalities. Thus, a thorough characterization of nanocellulose is a hot research topic of research communities in a view to judge its suitability to be used in a specific area. In this work, a kind of green and environment-friendly nanocellulose was successfully prepared from okra fiber through a series of multi-step chemical treatments, specifically, scouring, alkali treatment, sodium chlorite bleaching, and sulfuric acid hydrolysis. Several characterization techniques were adopted to understand the morphology, structure, thermal behavior, crystallinity, and toxicological effects of prepared nanocellulose. Obtained data revealed the formation of rod-shaped nanocellulose and compared to raw okra fiber, their size distributions were significantly smaller. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns displayed that compared to the crystalline region, the amorphous region in raw fiber is notably larger, and in obtained nanocellulose, the crystallinity index increased significantly. Moreover, variations in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) peaks depicted the successful removal of amorphous regions, namely, lignin and hemicelluloses from the surface of fiber. Thermostability of synthesized nanocellulose was confirmed by both Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Cytotoxicity assessment showed that the okra fiber-derived nanocellulose exhibited lower to moderate cellular toxicity in a dose-dependent manner where the LD50 value was 60.60 μg/ml.

The lipid-based drug delivery system (LBDDS) is a well-established technique that is anticipated to bring about comprehensive transformations in the pharmaceutical field, impacting the management and administration of drugs, as well as treatment and diagnosis. Various LBDDSs verified to be an efficacious mechanism for monitoring hypertension systems are SEDDS (self-nano emulsifying drug delivery), nanoemulsion, microemulsions, vesicular systems (transferosomes and liposomes), and solid lipid nanoparticles. LBDDSs overcome the shortcomings that are associated with antihypertensive agents because around fifty percent of the antihypertensive agents experience a few drawbacks including short half-life because of hepatic first-pass metabolism, poor aqueous solubility, low permeation rate, and undesirable side effects. This review emphasizes antihypertensive agents that were encapsulated into the lipid carrier to improve their poor oral bioavailability. Incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as nanotechnology and targeted drug delivery, LBDDS holds promise in addressing the multifactorial nature of hypertension. By fine-tuning drug release profiles and enhancing drug uptake at specific sites, LBDDS can potentially target renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system components, sympathetic nervous system pathways, and endothelial dysfunction, all of which play crucial roles in hypertension pathophysiology. The future of hypertension management using LBDDS is promising, with ongoing reviews focusing on precision medicine approaches, improved biocompatibility, and reduced toxicity. As we delve deeper into understanding the intricate mechanisms underlying hypertension, LBDDS offers a pathway to develop next-generation antihypertensive therapies that are safer, more effective, and tailored to individual patient needs.

One of the major causes of death on the globe is cancer. The fourth most frequent malignancy in women worldwide is cervical cancer. Several cancer patients are remaining incurable due to the emergence of medication resistance, despite notable advances in cancer research over the previous few decades. The importance of natural sources as possible therapeutic candidates may be significant. Anthraquinones are one of the many chemical families of natural products, and they stand out for their wide range of structural variations, notable biological activity, and low toxicity. A natural substance called emodin, an anthraquinone derivative, is present in the roots and rhizomes of several plants. This substance has demonstrated antineoplastic, anti-inflammatory, antiangiogenic, and antiproliferative properties. It is also capable of preventing cancer spread and can reverse cancer cells’ multidrug resistance. Emodin, a broad-spectrum inhibitor of cancer cells, have anticancer properties in many different types of biological pathways. These molecular mechanisms in cancer cells include the suppression of cell growth and proliferation, deterioration of the cell cycle arrest, the start of apoptosis, antimetastasis, and antiangiogenic impact. Therefore, the aim of the present review summarised the antiproliferative and anticarcinogenic qualities of cervical cancer of emodin.

Abstract Receptor-interacting protein kinases (RIPK)-1 and -3 play crucial roles in cell fate decisions and are regulated by multiple checkpoint controls. Previous studies have identified IKK1/2- and p38/MK2-dependent checkpoints that phosphorylate RIPK1 at different residues to inhibit its activation. In this study, we investigated TNF-induced death in MAPK-activated protein kinase 2 (MK2)-deficient cells and found that MK2 deficiency or inactivation predominantly leads to necroptotic cell death, even without caspase inhibition. While RIPK1 inhibitors can rescue MK2-deficient cells from necroptosis, inhibiting RIPK3 seems to switch the process to apoptosis. To understand the underlying mechanism of this switch, we screened a library of 149 kinase inhibitors and identified the adenosine analog 5-Iodotubercidin (5-ITu) as the most potent compound that sensitizes MK2-deficient MEFs to TNF-induced cell death. 5-ITu also enhances LPS-induced necroptosis when combined with MK2 inhibition in RAW264.7 macrophages. Further mechanistic studies revealed that 5-ITu induces RIPK1-dependent necroptosis by suppressing IKK signaling in the absence of MK2 activity. These findings highlight the role for the multitarget kinase inhibitor 5-ITu in TNF-, LPS- and chemotherapeutics-induced necroptosis and its potential implications in RIPK1-targeted therapies.

Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) has presented a new scope in the field of Precision Agriculture. With the application of cloud computing and WiFi-based long-distance network in IoT, it is possible to connect the farmers of rural areas effectively and harness the benefit of its advancement. In the present research work, an IoT-based scalable network architecture has been designed for two capabilities 1. For starting and stopping the tractor engine from a remote location and 2. For real-time tracking of the position and monitoring the engine status on a developed website. The developed system consists of the on-board unit (OBU), web server, and google map-based web application. The OBU consists of the Engine Control Sub Unit (ECSU) along with a GPS tracking sub unit for presenting real-time information on the developed web application. The ECSU consists of an RF-based wireless transmitting and receiving system to start and stop the remotely situated tractor engine. As the tractor engine starts it automatically powers up the GPS device for acquiring real-time information i.e. Longitude, Latitude, Time, speed, and Date from satellites, and sends it to the OBU. The Raspberry Pi-3 which has been used as the central processing unit in OBU, gathers both position and engine information and processes it after that sends it to the webserver, where these data are stored in the database of the web server and can be retrieved as a request for position browsing on the map. Finally, a web application was created using Python, language and also embedded with Google Map to retrieve and display real-time information. The developed system enables tractor owners to monitor the real-time position and status of the engine of their targeted tractor on Google Map. The developed system was found to be very simple and can be used by skilled farmers as well.

Cow mastitis is a polyetiological disease involving pathogenic microorganisms. Antibiotics are used to treat sick animals, which contributes to the development of resistant clones of bacteria, and consumption of the corresponding milk leads to the spread of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. The purpose of the work is to determine strains of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the milk of cows suffering from subclinical mastitis. Bacteriological studies of mammary gland secretion samples were performed by inoculating the sediment obtained after centrifugation of the examined material on an agarised nutrient medium (with 5% ram erythrocytes). The study of antimicrobial sensitivity was performed by the disk diffusion method. It was established that pathogens with multiple resistance to antibiotics circulate among cows suffering from mastitis on the farm, which indicates their indiscriminate use in animal therapy schemes, in particular mastitis. It was found that the overall level of phenotypic resistance to antimicrobial agents of the examined isolates was within 19-33% (in Staphylococcus spp. – 19.9%, in E. coli – 33.2%, in Enterococcus spp. – 32.5%). The analysis of the results allowed assigning the culture study to the category of multiresistant: 31.6% of cultures of Staphylococcus spp. demonstrated resistance to five groups of antibiotics; 54.5% of Escherichia cultures – up to five groups of antibiotics; 37.5% of cultures of Enterococcus spp. resistant to three groups of antibiotics. It was established that 100% of the studied cultures of Staphylococcus spp. are sensitive to netilmicin, sparfloxacin, gatifloxacin and clarithromycin. Therewith, 100% of the examined cultures of Enterococcus spp. sensitive to gentamicin, norfloxacin, and nitrofurantoin, and 100% of the examined E. coli cultures were sensitive to cephalothin, meropenem, gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, nitroxoline, and gatifloxacin. Thus, dairy cows suffering from subclinical mastitis are a source of bacteria with multiple resistance to antibiotics and carry risks for consumers due to the consumption of dairy products contaminated with pathogens of zoonotic diseases, which requires proper control by veterinary service specialists

AbstractThe power take-off (PTO) torque measuring system was designed, which includes a torque transducer and a digital wireless system to receive, process, and display the observed PTO torque. A dynamic PTO torque transducer was developed using strain gauges to fit in between the PTO shaft of the tractor and the universal shaft of the implement and simulated using SolidWorks software with 1000 Nm twisting moment along with 100 N load. To transmit torque signals from the revolving PTO shaft, an embedded system was developed. The embedded system was tested in the laboratory and under actual field conditions. The digital wireless embedded system comprised an amplifier cum analog to digital converter to amplify the received signal from the torque transducer and convert it into a digital value. A microcontroller processes the digital value given by the amplifier, and radio frequency (RF) receiver module was mounted on the Xbee explorer to receive the transmitted data from the RF module of signal processing and transmitter unit. The developed system was tested under field conditions, and data were compared with the existing commercial torque transducer. The results showed that the relative deviation between the observed mean PTO torque values obtained from the developed torque transducer and that from the existing torque transducer was 8.57% and 9.06% at 2.5 km/h and 3.5 km/h, respectively.

The present study was conducted to determine health status and milk quality of goats reared under stall fed and free range grazing system. The research areas reported higher THI throughout the summer. Respiration rate (RR) and heart rate (HR) was significantly higher during summer in both the groups. Both groups had significantly increased neutrophils and eosinophils during the summer and increased Hb, PCV, and lymphocyte during the winter. Stall fed goats had significantly higher MDA during summer. The free range group had significantly higher levels of SOD and GSH in the summer and winter, respectively.Vitamins C and E levels declined during the summer. In both the groups, summer levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and plasma alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were significantly higher but remained within the reference range. During the summer, both groups of goats showed a significant decrease in plasma glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol. Total proteins (TP) and Albumin both significantly declined during the winter in both the groups. Total immunoglobulins significantly increased during the winter in the free range group. Throughout the winter and the summer, respectively, the fat percentage increased in the milk of the stall-fed and free-range groups. Moreover, solid not fat (SNF) significantly declined in stall fed group during the winter. Also, there was no discernible difference in the amount of milk proteins between the groups; however, during the summer, it was discovered that stall-fed goats had more of them. The milk lactose significantly increased in both the groups in the time of summer though the increase was remarkable in stall fed goats. The present study indicated that stall fed and free range reared goats in winter and summer exhibit physiological variation in their health state, milk production, and composition.

Abstract Deceleration is considered a commonly practised means to assess Foetal Heart Rate (FHR) through visual inspection and interpretation of patterns in Cardiotocography (CTG). The precision of deceleration classification relies on the accurate estimation of corresponding event points (EP) from the FHR and the Uterine Contraction Pressure (UCP). This work proposes a deceleration classification pipeline by comparing four machine learning (ML) models, namely, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Random Forest (RF), Naïve Bayes (NB), and Simple Logistics Regression. Towards an automated classification of deceleration from EP using the pipeline, it systematically compares three approaches to create feature sets from the detected EP: (1) a novel fuzzy logic (FL)-based approach, (2) expert annotation by clinicians, and (3) calculated using National Institute of Child Health and Human Development guidelines. The classification results were validated using different popular statistical metrics, including receiver operating characteristic curve, intra-class correlation coefficient, Deming regression, and Bland-Altman Plot. The highest classification accuracy (97.94%) was obtained with MLP when the EP was annotated with the proposed FL approach compared to RF, which obtained 63.92% with the clinician-annotated EP. The results indicate that the FL annotated feature set is the optimal one for classifying deceleration from FHR.

Abstract Powdery mildew is one of the serious diseases of garden pea which causes a large number of yield losses. Genetic resistance is quite effective, being cost-effective and environment friendly than fungicide applications. In the present studies an initial attempt has been made to identify resistant genotypes against powdery mildew disease developed from hybridization followed by validation of the disease. The experimental material comprised of 48 genotypes that includes 44 advanced breeding lines was evaluated for powdery mildew incidence in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications at two locations under field conditions [Palampur (winter 2017–18 and 2018–19) and Kukumseri (summer 2018)] and in vitro at Palampur [detached leaf method and polyhouse conditions]. Ten lines viz., SP7, SN-1, SN-6-1, SN-7-1, SN-2, SN-5-2, SN-6-2, SN-10, SN-21 and SP-281 showed resistant reaction along with check Palam Sumool while 27 lines were identified as moderately resistant in comparison to susceptible check Azad P-1. Besides, six lines namely, SP-2, SP-5, SP-10, SP-24, SA-4 and SP-12-1 gave moderately susceptible reaction along with checks Pb-89 and Palam Priya. Only, SP-19 was categorized as susceptible. The high yielding lines SP-3, SP-6 and SP-22 showed moderately resistant reaction in both natural and artificial conditions. Validation of resistance using molecular markers revealed that neither the parental genotypes nor the progenies possess the er1 gene of JI1559. The er2 linked marker ScOPX-171700 was polymorphic between Palam Sumool and Palam Priya but the marker didn’t show polymorphism between er2 harboring line (JI2480). These results suggested that the lines showing resistance under field conditions may have some other genes or alleles for resistance and further confirmation is needed by developing mapping populations with specific gene or gene combinations.

Background: Understanding the protein's subcellular localization and secretory nature can greatly improve the target identification for diagnostic assays and drug discovery, although their identification in laboratory experiments is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. In order to identify proteins that could be targeted for therapeutic intervention or the development of diagnostic assays, we used a variety of computational tools to predict the subcellular localization or secretory nature of mycobacterial proline-glutamate/proline-proline-glutamate (PE/PPE) proteins. Methods: PSORTb version 3.0.3, TBpred, and Gpos-mPLoc analyses were performed on 30 selected PE/PPE protein sequences, while, SignalP 6.0, SignalP 5.0, Phobius, PSORTb version 3.0.3 and TBpred were used for signal sequence predictions. Results: Gpos-mPLoc and TBpred had the highest concordance for extracellular prediction, while PSORTb and TBpred had the highest concordance for prediction of membrane localization. The tools for predicting the secretory nature of proteins had little agreement. Conclusion: Multiple computational tools must be considered to provide an indication of the subcellular localization of PE/PPE proteins. Laboratory experiments should be used to confirm the findings of the tools.

Background: Post-COVID-19 cases are being reported with features of hyperinflammatory state causing multiple system dysfunctions in previously healthy children. Objectives: To describe clinical characteristics, laboratory, and radiological profile of children affected with COVID-19-related multisystem inflammatory syndrome postsecond wave in India and compare them with respect to adverse outcome. Materials and Methods: This prospective, observational study was conducted in the department of pediatrics of a tertiary care center in Eastern India over a period of 3 months. Demographic data, clinical details, biochemical parameters, and treatment with clinical outcome were recorded. Children who survived the clinical course were compared with those died during hospital stay. Results: Thirty-five children with a median age of 4.8 (3.9) years were included who were admitted between June 16 and September 15, 2021. Only 17.14% had reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction positivity previously with 77.14% had positive COVID-19 serology. Most common features were fever (100%), edema (68.6%), gastrointestinal (71.4%), mucocuteneous (65.7%), cardiovascular (57.1%), and neurological symptoms (45.7%). Background: Coronavirus outbreak severely affected the psychological health of frontline health-care workers, including nurses. Nurses relatively face many more psychological problems compared to other health-care workers. This study aimed to assess nurses' fear, stress, and anxiety status during the Omicron, a new variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, outbreak in India. Materials and Methods: This questionnaire survey included 350 frontline nurses working at a tertiary care teaching hospital in North India. The information was collected using the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, Impact of Event Scale-Revised, and Fear of COVID-19 Scale. Nurses working in the hospital since COVID-19 outbreak were included in the study. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to compute the results. Results: Nurses hospitalized after contracting an infection (odds ratio [OR] – 3.492, 95% confidence interval – 1.644–9.442, P < 0.002) and attended training on COVID-19 (OR – 2.644, 95% CI – 1.191–5.870, P < 0.017) reported high distress than their counterparts. Likewise, nurses hospitalized after contracting an infection (β = 3.862, P < 0.001 vs. β = 2.179, P < 0.001) and have no training exposure on COVID-19 management and care (β = 2.536, P = 0.001 vs. β = 0.670, P = 0.039) reported higher fear and anxiety, respectively. Likewise, married participants (β = 1.438, P < 0.036) who lost their friends and colleagues in the pandemic (β = 0.986, P = 0.020) reported being more frightened and anxious. Conclusions: Participants reported experiencing psychological burdens, especially nurses hospitalized after contracting an infection and who lost their friends and colleagues to COVID-19. High psychological distress may be a potential indicator of future psychiatric morbidity. Authors recommend a variant-specific training to improve nurses' mental health to combat the pandemic.

Abstract The TNF receptor-interacting protein kinases (RIPK)-1 and 3 are regulators of extrinsic cell death response pathways, where RIPK1 makes the cell survival or death decisions by associating with distinct complexes mediating survival signaling, caspase activation or RIPK3-dependent necroptotic cell death in a context-dependent manner. Using a mass spectrometry-based screen to find new components of the ripoptosome/necrosome, we discovered the protein-arginine methyltransferase (PRMT)-5 as a direct interaction partner of RIPK1. Interestingly, RIPK3 but not RIPK1 was then found to be a target of PRMT5-mediated symmetric arginine dimethylation. A conserved arginine residue in RIPK3 (R486 in human, R415 in mouse) was identified as the evolutionarily conserved target for PRMT5-mediated symmetric dimethylation and the mutations R486A and R486K in human RIPK3 almost completely abrogated its methylation. Rescue experiments using these non-methylatable mutants of RIPK3 demonstrated PRMT5-mediated RIPK3 methylation to act as an efficient mechanism of RIPK3-mediated feedback control on RIPK1 activity and function. Therefore, this study reveals PRMT5-mediated RIPK3 methylation as a novel modulator of RIPK1-dependent signaling.

Proximal point algorithm is one of the most popular technique to find either zero of monotone operator or minimizer of a lower semi-continuous function. In this paper, we propose a new modified proximal point algorithm for solving minimization problems and common fixed point problems in CAT(0) spaces. We prove Δ and strong convergence of the proposed algorithm. Our results extend and improve the corresponding recent results in the literature.

Although granule cell dispersion (GCD) in the hippocampus is known to be an important feature associated with epileptic seizures in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), the endogenous molecules that regulate GCD are largely unknown. In the present study, we have examined whether there is any change in AEG-1 expression in the hippocampus of a kainic acid (KA)-induced mouse model of TLE. In addition, we have investigated whether the modulation of astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) expression in the dentate gyrus (DG) by intracranial injection of adeno-associated virus 1 (AAV1) influences pathological phenotypes such as GCD formation and seizure susceptibility in a KA-treated mouse. We have identified that the protein expression of AEG-1 is upregulated in the DG of a KA-induced mouse model of TLE. We further demonstrated that AEG-1 upregulation by AAV1 delivery in the DG-induced anticonvulsant activities such as the delay of seizure onset and inhibition of spontaneous recurrent seizures (SRS) through GCD suppression in the mouse model of TLE, while the inhibition of AEG-1 expression increased susceptibility to seizures. The present observations suggest that AEG-1 is a potent regulator of GCD formation and seizure development associated with TLE, and the significant induction of AEG-1 in the DG may have therapeutic potential against epilepsy.

Several types of pollutants have acute adverse effects on living bodies, and the effective removal of these pollutants remains a challenge. Safranin O (a biological dye) and merbromin (a topical mercury-containing antiseptic) are considered organic pollutants, and there are only a few reports on their removal. Synthesized and well-characterized (through PXRD, FTIR, FESEM, and EDS analysis) MOF-5 was used for the first time in the removal of safranin O and merbromin from simulated wastewater and real wastewater. In both cases, MOF-5 effectively removed contaminants. We found that in simulated wastewater, the highest efficiency of removal of safranin O was 53.27% (for 15 mg/L) at pH 10, and for merbromin, it was 41.49% (for 25 mg/L) at pH 6. In the case of real wastewater containing natural ions (Na+, K+, F−, Cl−, SO42−, PO43−, Mg2+, and Ca2+) and other molecules, the removal efficiencies of these two dyes decreased (34.00% and 26.28% for safranin O and merbromin, respectively) because of the presence of other ions and molecules. A plausible mechanism for the removal of these pollutants using MOF-5 was proposed.

Doxorubicin is one of the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of various forms of cancer. In order to attain maximum efficacy, it is important to deliver the maximum concentration of anticancer drug to the cancerous tumours. One strategy to achieve this, is the use of nanocarriers. Nanocarriers, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), are able to maximize drug delivery, while decreasing side effects. This study describes an in silico protocol, used to study the pH dependent loading of doxorubicin to multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Several computational models were developed, starting with a pristine nanotube, a carboxylated nanotube, and lysine-carbohydrate functionalized nanotubes. For each model, 100 doxorubicin molecules were added, and 300 ns of molecular dynamics simulation were performed, on acidic and neutral conditions. Our results presented a dynamic molecular-level demonstration that the systems with acidic pH had lower adsorption when compared to their neutral pH counterparts. Furthermore, carbohydrate-modified lysinated MWCNTs had higher adsorption than the pristine or carboxylated nanotubes. These results are in agreement with the previous experimental work and indicate that sugar-tethered multiwalled carbon nanotubes are promising tools for the delivery of doxorubicin to cancer cells.

T cells are an important component of adaptive immunity and T-cell-derived lymphomas are very complex due to many functional sub-types and functional elasticity of T-cells. As with other tumors, tissues specific factors are crucial in the development of T-cell lymphomas. In addition to neoplastic cells, T- cell lymphomas consist of a tumor micro-environment composed of normal cells and stroma. Numerous studies established the qualitative and quantitative differences between the tumor microenvironment and normal cell surroundings. Interaction between the various component of the tumor microenvironment is crucial since tumor cells can change the microenvironment and vice versa. In normal T-cell development, T-cells must respond to various stimulants deferentially and during these courses of adaptation. T-cells undergo various metabolic alterations. From the stage of quiescence to attention of fully active form T-cells undergoes various stage in terms of metabolic activity. Predominantly quiescent T-cells have ATP-generating metabolism while during the proliferative stage, their metabolism tilted towards the growth-promoting pathways. In addition to this, a functionally different subset of T-cells requires to activate the different metabolic pathways, and consequently, this regulation of the metabolic pathway control activation and function of T-cells. So, it is obvious that dynamic, and well-regulated metabolic pathways are important for the normal functioning of T-cells and their interaction with the microenvironment. There are various cell signaling mechanisms of metabolism are involved in this regulation and more and more studies have suggested the involvement of additional signaling in the development of the overall metabolic phenotype of T cells. These important signaling mediators include cytokines and hormones. The impact and role of these mediators especially the cytokines on the interplay between T-cell metabolism and the interaction of T-cells with their micro-environments in the context of T-cells lymphomas are discussed in this review article.

Asparagus racemosus is known for its diverse content of secondary metabolites, i.e., saponins, alkaloids, and a wide range of flavonoids. Flavonoids, including phenols and polyphenols, have a significant role in plant physiology and are synthesized in several tissues. Despite the diverse role of flavonoids, genetic information is limited for flavonoid biosynthesis pathways in A. racemosus. The current study explores full-scale functional genomics information of A. racemosus by de novo transcriptome sequencing using Illumina paired-end sequencing technology to elucidate the genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis pathways. The de novo assembly of high-quality paired-end reads resulted in ∼2.3 million high-quality reads with a pooled transcript of 45,647 comprising ∼76 Mb transcriptome with a mean length (bp) of 1,674 and N50 of 1,868bp. Furthermore, the coding sequence (CDS) prediction analysis from 45,647 pooled transcripts resulted in 45,444 CDS with a total length and mean length of 76,398,686 and 1,674, respectively. The Gene Ontology (GO) analysis resulted in a high number of CDSs assigned to 25,342 GO terms, which grouped the predicted CDS into three main domains, i.e., Biological Process (19,550), Molecular Function (19,873), and Cellular Component (14,577). The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway database was used to categorize 6,353 CDS into 25 distinct biological pathway categories, in which the majority of mapped CDS were shown to be related to translation (645), followed by signal transduction (532), carbohydrate metabolism (524), folding, sorting, and degradation (522). Among these, only ∼64 and 14 CDSs were found to be involved in the phenylpropanoid and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways, respectively. Quantitative Real-time PCR was used to check the expression profile of fourteen potential flavonoid biosynthesis pathway genes. The qRT-PCR analysis result matches the transcriptome sequence data validating the Illumina sequence results. Moreover, a large number of genes associated with the flavonoids biosynthesis pathway were found to be upregulated under the induction of methyl jasmonate. The present-day study on transcriptome sequence data of A. racemosus can be utilized for characterizing genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis pathways and for functional genomics analysis in A. racemosus using the reverse genetics approach (CRISPR/Cas9 technology).

Crystalline beta zeolite molecular sieve with SiO2/Al2O3 molar ratio of 28.5 was synthesized by the hydrothermal crystallization method and examined for methanol dehydration reaction. The micro-mesoporous beta zeolite was active between 280 and 450°C. Dimethyl ether (DME) was observed as the predominant product at all reaction temperatures, with a maximum selectivity of 47.9% at 300°C and a methanol turnover frequency (TOFMeOH) of 741.9 h−1. At increased reaction temperatures, beta zeolite showed enhanced strong acid site fraction, promoting higher hydrocarbon formation following the olefin-based cycle. It was revealed that the crystallinity, porosity and acidity of beta zeolite change in the reaction environment. Amorphous carbon deposition occurred on beta zeolite, which involved a loss in crystallinity to some extent. The temperature increase showed a pore-broadening phenomenon at elevated temperature regions. Regeneration cycle testing demonstrated beta zeolite activity maintained stable throughout a 280 h time-on-stream period.

Background: Vaccination for COVID-19 has become a cornerstone management plan for many countries. Australian state governments made vaccinations mandatory for all healthcare workers. Despite evidence on the important role vaccines hold in preventing or decreasing serious disease, there have been many nurses and midwives who have demonstrated vaccine hesitancy. This hesitancy has also been present in undergraduate nursing and midwifery students. The aim of this study was to explore factors influencing Australian nursing and midwifery students' intentions towards receiving the COVID-19 vaccine; identify the barriers and facilitators to obtaining the COVID-19 vaccine; and understand students' perceptions of mandating the COVID-19 vaccine and identify any impact on their studies.. Methods: Cross-sectional mixed method study utilising an online survey platform. Data were analysed using binomial and multinomial logistic regression through Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. A content analysis was completed for the qualitative data. Results: There were 715 participants and 556 who completed the survey in full. Nurses made up the majority of participants (n = 409), 133 participants were midwives and 30 were in dual nursing/midwifery programs. Education and communication were identified as two major factors that facilitate vaccine acceptance. Conclusions: Vaccines are integral in the prevention of contracting COVID-19 or reducing the severity of the symptoms. However, many nursing and midwifery students have shown reluctance towards getting vaccinated. The mandate to be vaccinated to attend clinical placement has led to the inability of some students to complete their course. The findings from this study are valuable in informing the future COVID-19 vaccination strategies and improving vaccine acceptance. COVID-19 remains a global health risk and therefore further research is needed of vaccine acceptance amongst the future health workforces. It is crucial knowledge for policy makers and healthcare services as they plan for any future pandemics and implement Australia's national vaccine strategy.
