The aims of this work are to investigate the chemical composition, the antibacterial activity of the essential oil and the chromosome numbers of two populations of Hertia cheirifolia. The samples were collected in the flowering stage, in eastern Algeria locality. The aerial parts of H. cheirifolia were submitted to a hydro-distillation. GC and GC / MS analysed the chemical compositions of the obtained essential oils. The antibacterial activity of essential oils was evaluated using the disks diffusion method against ten bacterial strains. For karyotypic analysis, the squashing method is used. Fifty-eight compounds representing 98.93% of the total oil were identified in H. cheirifolia. The chemical composition is dominated by the presence of major products, α-pinene (48.49 - 53.85%) and Germacrene-D (2.64 - 12.66%). Two distinct chemical breeds were identified, the α-pinene-spathulenol of Batna population, and the α-pinene-germacrene-D of Setif population. The essential oil of H. cheirifolia has a moderate activity against bacteria tested. In contrast, the strains E. coli ATCC 25922, P. syringae ATCC 53543 and E. fecalis ATCC 49452 are resistant to H. cheirifolia essential oils. The observations of root cells meristematic at metaphase of H. cheirifolia gave a diploid chromosome number 2n = 2x = 20, with a basic chromosome number (x= 10).

Ação n.º: TC-14/2017 UIDB/50006/2020 The commensal bacteria Escherichia coli causes several intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases, since it has virulence factors that interfere in important cellular processes. These bacteria also have a great capacity to spread the resistance genes, sometimes to phylogenetically distant bacteria, which poses an additional threat to public health worldwide. Here, we aimed to use the analytical potential of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) to characterize E. coli isolates and identify proteins associated closely with antibiotic resistance. Thirty strains of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase producing E. coli were sampled from various animals. The phenotypes of antibiotic resistance were determined according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) methods, and they showed that all bacterial isolates were multi-resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, and ampicillin. To identify peptides characteristic of resistance to particular antibiotics, each strain was grown in the presence or absence of the different antibiotics, and then proteins were extracted from the cells. The protein fingerprints of the samples were determined by MALDI-TOF MS in linear mode over a mass range of 2 to 20 kDa. The spectra obtained were compared by using the ClinProTools bioinformatics software, using three machine learning classification algorithms. Les recherches sur le Paléolithique moyen récent du versant nord des Pyrénées bénéficient depuis plusieurs années du dynamisme des fouilles de la grotte du Noisetier (Fréchet-Aure, Hautes-Pyrénées). Celle-ci a livré des ensembles lithiques essentiellement réalisés aux dépens de matériaux locaux, complétés par des apports en silex. Des échantillonnages réalisés en différents points des formations alluviales de la Neste et d’affluents ont été comparés avec le matériel archéologique et mettent en évidence un haut degré de sélection dans l’environnement local, témoignage de connaissances fines du milieu montagnard. L’étude pétroarchéologique des silex permet de dessiner un vaste territoire connu ou parcouru. Les études en cours à la grotte Gatzarria (Ossas-Suhare, Pyrénées-Atlantiques) permettent également d’envisager de nouveaux parcours transpyrénéens. For several years, Late Middle Paleolithic research on the Northern side of the Pyrenees has benefited from the dynamism of Le Noisetier Cave excavations (Fréchet-Aure, Hautes-Pyrénées). There, the lithic component is essentially made of local raw materials, completed by imported flint. Samples taken at different points of the alluvial formations of the Neste River and tributaries were compared with artifacts and highlight a high degree of selection in the local environment, evidence of fine knowledge of the mountain context. The petroarcheological study of flint also demonstrates a vast known or traveled territory. Ongoing studies at Gatzarria cave (Ossas-Suhare, Pyrénées-Atlantiques) also allow considering new trans-Pyrenean contacts.

Ficus sycomorus est utilisé en médecine traditionnelle au Burkina Faso dans le traitement de diverses pathologies dont la drépanocytose. Les objectifs de cette étude consistaient d’une part à tester in vitro les effets du décocté aqueux et du macéré hydroéthanolique des feuilles sur les temps de coagulation sanguine et de formation d’agrégat plaquettaire, et d’autre part à identifier par HPLC-MS les composés majoritaires. Les résultats ont montré la formation d’agrégat plaquettaire dans le plasma riche en plaquette au bout de 5,27 min en absence d’extrait de la plante et après l’addition d’acide arachidonique. La coagulation du sang des sujets drépanocytaires SS, SC ainsi que celui du sujet sain AA a été observée respectivement au bout de 6,37 ± 1,6 min ; 7,76 ± 2 min et 11,55 ± 0,8 min en absence d’extrait de la plante. Cependant, en présence des extraits à différentes concentrations (10 ; 20 et 50 mg/mL), aucune formation d’agrégat plaquettaire, ni de coagulation n’a été observée. Les données spectrales ont permis d’identifier 07 composés phénoliques et leurs isomères de formules brutes C21H20O11, C21H20O12, C21H17O13, C16H18O9 et C18H31NO3 dans les feuilles de cette plante. La présence de ces composés phénoliques justifierait la capacité des extraits à ralentir une coagulation excessive.© 2019 International Formulae Group.
