Abstract

The Speckle Imager via MUlti Layer Atmospheric Turbulence Object Reconstructor (SIMULATOR) is a lab-based testbed instrument developed to test for speckle correlation-based techniques in the optical regime. However, this instrument can be used as a testbed against post-processing techniques or algorithms like lucky imaging, phase diversity method etc. The SIMULATOR can emulate 3D atmospheric turbulence behaviour using a three-layer turbulence screen, giving the user command over important site characteristics like wind profile, global fried parameter, global isoplanatic patch, mid-layer and high-layer height effects etc. This testbed is unique in that it can mimic a broad range of site and telescope characteristics accurately without the need for manual intervention or tuning of parameters. The current version can handle a Field of View (FoV) of up to $0.3^{\circ}$, bandwidth ranges from 4860 to 6560 nm and can cover atmospheric turbulence heights up to 83 km., Comment: SPIE conference proceedings 2022

Abstract

Devasthal Optical Telescope Integral Field Spectrograph (DOTIFS) is a new multi-Integral Field Unit (IFU) instrument, planned to be mounted on the 3.6m Devasthal optical telescope in Nainital, India. It has eight identical, fiber-fed spectrographs to disperse light coming from 16 IFUs. The spectrographs produce 2,304 spectra over a 370-740nm wavelength range simultaneously with a spectral resolution of R=1200-2400. It is composed of all-refractive, all spherical optics designed to achieve on average 26.0% throughput from the telescope to the CCD with the help of high transmission spectrograph optics, volume phase holographic grating, and graded coated e2v 2K by 4K CCD. We present the optical and opto-mechanical design of the spectrograph as well as current development status. Abstract

We present fore-optics and calibration unit design of Devasthal Optical Telescope Integral Field Spectrograph (DOTIFS). DOTIFS fore-optics is designed to modify the focal ratio of the light and to match its plate scale to the physical size of Integral Field Units (IFUs). The fore-optics also delivers a telecentric beam to the IFUs on the telescope focal plane. There is a calibration unit part of which is combined with the fore-optics to have a light and compact system. We use Xenon-arc lamp as a continuum source and Krypton/Mercury-Neon lamps as wavelength calibration sources. Fore-optics and calibration unit shares two optical lenses to maintain compactness of the overall subsystem. Abstract

Devasthal Optical Telescope Integral Field Spectrograph (DOTIFS) is a new multi-object Integral Field Spectrograph (IFS) being designed and fabricated by the Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, India, for the Cassegrain side port of the 3.6m Devasthal Optical Telescope, (DOT) being constructed by the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital. It is mainly designed to study the physics and kinematics of the ionized gas, star formation and H II regions in the nearby galaxies. It is a novel instrument in terms of multi-IFU, built in deployment system, and high throughput. It consists of one magnifier, 16 integral field units (IFUs), and 8 spectrographs. Each IFU is comprised of a microlens array and optical fibers and has 7.4'' x 8.7'' field of view with 144 spaxel elements, each sampling 0.8'' hexagonal aperture. The IFUs can be distributed on the telescope side port over an 8' diameter focal plane by the deployment system. Optical fibers deliver light from the IFUs to the spectrographs. Eight identical, all refractive, dedicated spectrographs will produce 2,304 R~1800 spectra over 370-740nm wavelength range with a single exposure. Volume Phase Holographic gratings are chosen to make smaller optics and get high throughput. The total throughput of the instrument including the telescope is predicted as 27.5% on average. Observing techniques, data simulator and reduction software are also under development. Currently, conceptual and baseline design review has been done. Some of the components have already been procured. Abstract

To travel securely on roads, traffic signs are very important. The main cause of road accidents is laxity in viewing the traffic signboards and analysing them wrongly. To avoid all these problems, the new system is implemented. This system helps in identifying the traffic sign and sends a voice command to the driver, so that the driver will take necessary actions to travel safely. The system is trained by using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN/ConvNet), helps in classification and recognisation of traffic sign images. To make the system more accurate, a particular dataset is taken and trained by defining a set of classes. The German Traffic Sign Recognition Benchmark dataset was used for classification of sign boards,it contains more than 40 classes and more than 50000 images of traffic signs. After detecting the sign, a voice command is sent to notify the driver and aware him/her to follow the necessary rules on the road. This paper equates the performance of some trail runs on a real dataset of online shopping reviews with and without features estimations of users' behavior. Abstract

Background Calcaneal fractures account for approximately 2% of all fractures, with displaced intra-articular fractures comprising 60% to 75% of these injuries1. Studies in fracture patterns, soft-tissue management, and outcomes of calcaneal fractures have led to the debate on the optimal management of calcaneal fractures. Several Prospective randomized studies have shown equivocal outcomes with operative and nonoperative treatment. However, recent trends in the literature suggest that restoration of physiologic parameters of length, height, and alignment of the calcaneus may lead to better long-term results. Initial studies using extensile approaches showed higher rates of wound complications with operative treatment; however, recent studies have shown lower complication rates with sinus tarsi and other minimally invasive techniques. Regardless of the mode of treatment, calcaneal fractures are associated with numerous complications and guarded outcomes with signicant longterm morbidity. Objectives 1. To comparatively study the functional outcome of calcaneum fracture when treated conservatively with that of operative management 2. To study complication when treated conservatively with that of operative management METHODS Study was conducted in Department of Orthopedics, Basaveshwara Teaching and General Hospital, Kalaburagi.30 patients with 30 calcaneum fracture were included in the study. Outcome of conservative and operative management was compared using Creighton Nebrasaka health foundation scoring system. Pre treatment and post treatment (at follow up) Bohler's angle was also compared. Chisquare analysis and paired t test was done to compare the results of conservative and operative management. Restoration of the RESULTS Bohler's angle was better with operative management as compared to conservative management. Functional outcome for type I fractures was better with conservative management. For type II and type III functional outcome was relatively better with operative management for type IV fractures the outcome was signicantly better with operative management. A signicant correlation was seen between the post treatment Bohler's angle and C-N scores. Interpretation & Conclusion Conservative management has better functional outcome for undisplaced fractures. Where as displaced and comminuted fractures anatomical reduction and restoration of Bohler's angle is very important. Bohler's angle has a prognostic importance and correlates well with the functional outcome

Abstract

Early detection of the plant diseases is critical to avoid losses in the yield and quality of the agricultural product. The studies of the plant diseases have been widely researched to detect abnormality in plant growth using visually observable patterns on the plant. Plant monitoring and disease detection is needed to ensure sustainability in agriculture. However, it is usually very difficult to monitor the plant diseases manually as they require real-time and precision detection. Image processing is commonly used for the detection of plant diseases which involved image acquisition, pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction and classification. In this paper, an Artificial Intelligence based image processing algorithm is proposed to detect diseases on a Chilli plant using its leaves images. 47. A Study on Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Performance of 6061 Aluminium Alloy: Galvanized Mild Steel Electron Beam Welds at Varying Welding Parameters

Abstract

Dissimilar welds of steel and aluminium alloys have an inherent problem of the vast difference in solid solubility which questions their integrity. The present study elaborates on the mechanical failure and corrosion degradation of 6061 Al—galvanized mild steel lap joints fabricated by electron beam welding as a function of varying parameters such as processing speed, voltage and current. The interfaces of two weld specimens were examined using scanning electron microscopy, phase analysis by micro-area X-ray diffraction and hardness testing by Vickers micro-hardness tester. Results showed the generation of the intermetallic layer at the weld seam–mild steel interface in the specimens. The composition of the Al–Fe intermetallics in the layer was confirmed by micro-XRD analysis. The layer width increased with increased heat input and average width varied between 11 and 16 µm in the specimens. The micro-hardness of the layer was found to increase with a decrease in processing speed during welding. The corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of welds were evaluated as per ASTM G 67-04 and D 1002, respectively. The microstructures at weld interfaces have shown intergranular corrosion after nitric acid exposure for 24 h according to ASTM G 67-04. Weight loss analysis was done after the corrosion test. It was identified that welds fabricated at higher voltage exhibited greater weight loss of 55.9 mg and specimen joined at lower voltage was found to exhibit a weight loss of 41.1 mg, respectively. High intermetallic layer thickness in the welds resulted in failure at the weld seam region during lap shear testing.

Abstract

Fungal infections are a common cause of morbidity and mortality among patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). We present the clinical manifestations, and management of five CAPD patients with fungal peritonitis seen during the last seven years. Microscopy and culture of the peritoneal fluid tested positive for fungus in all patients. Filamentous fungi were identified as the causative fungi among four patients and Candida nonalbicans was the cause in one patient. Catheter was removed and appropriate antifungal therapy was given to all the patients. Four patients recovered and one died due to ventilator associated infection. Previously treated bacterial infections, old age more than 50 years, diabetes and hypertension were recognised as the risk factors leading to fungal infection among CAPD patients.
