The complete set of transport coefficients for two dimensional relativistic degenerate gases is derived within a relaxation approximation in kinetic theory, by considering both the particle and energy frames. A thorough comparison between Marle and Anderson-Witting's models is carried out, pointing out the drawbacks of the former when compared both to the latter and to the full Boltzmann equation results in the non-degenerate limit. Such task is accomplished by solving the relativistic Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation, in both the particle and energy frames, in order to establish the constitutive equations for the heat flux and the Navier tensor together with analytical expressions for the transport coefficients in such representations. In particular, the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity (associated with a generalized thermal force) and the bulk and shear viscosities are analyzed and compared within both models and with the non-degenerate, non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic limits.

We study the quantum tunnel effect through a potential barrier employing a semiclassical formulation of quantum mechanics based on expectation values of configuration variables and quantum dispersions as dynamical variables. The evolution of the system is given in terms of a dynamical system for which we are able to determine effective trajectories for individual particles, in a total resemblance of the Bohmian description of quantum mechanics. We obtain a type of semiclassical confinement for particles in a similar way as with the quantum potential, and also determine a semiclassical transmission coefficient for the tunneling process.

The thermal transport properties of a two dimensional Fermi gas are explored, for the full range of temperatures and densities. The heat flux is established by solving the Uehling-Uhlebeck equation using a relaxation approximation given by Marle's collisional kernel and considering the temperature and chemical potential gradients as independent thermodynamic forces. It is shown that the corresponding transport coefficients are proportional to each other, which leads to the possibility of defining a generalized thermal force and a single transport coefficient. The behavior of such conductivity with the temperature and chemical potential is analyzed and a discussion on its dependence with the relaxation parameter is also included. The relevance and applications of the results are briefly addressed.

An elastic membrane with embedded nematic molecules is considered as a model of anisotropic fluid membrane with internal ordering. By considering the geometric coupling between director field and membrane curvature, the nematic texture is shown to induce anisotropic stresses additional to Canham-Helfrich elasticity. Building upon differential geometry, analytical expressions are found for the membrane stress and torque induced by splaying, twisting and bending of the nematic director as described by the Frank energy of liquid crystals. On elastic spherical membranes, there is no stress induced by the bending energy and the corresponding Laplace-Young law does not involve the elastic bending stiffness. However, when considering an axially symmetrical perturbation that pinches the sphere, it induces nontrivial stresses on the entire membrane. In this paper we introduce a theoretical framework to examine the stress induced by perturbations of geometry around the sphere. We find the local balance force equations along the normal direction to the vesicle, and along the unit binormal, tangent to the membrane; likewise, the global balance force equation on closed loops is also examined. We analyze the distribution of stresses on the membrane as the budding transition occurs. In this work we analyze a non--interacting one dimensional polymer Bose--Einstein condensate in an harmonic trap within the semiclassical approximation. We use an effective Hamiltonian coming from the polymer quantization that arises in loop quantum gravity. We calculate the number of particles in order to obtain the critical temperature. The Bose--Einstein functions are replaced by series, whose high order terms are related to powers of the polymer length. It is shown that the condensation temperature presents a shift respect to the standard case, for small values of the polymer scale. In typical experimental conditions, it is possible to establish a bound for $\lambda^{2}$ up to $ \lesssim 10 ^{-16}$m$^2$. To improve this bound we should decrease the frequency of the trap and also decrease the number of particles.

Using classical differential geometry, the problem of elastic curves and surfaces in the presence of long-range interactions $\Phi$, is posed. Starting from a variational principle, the balance of elastic forces and the corresponding projections ${\bf n}_i\cdot \nabla\Phi$, are found. In the case of elastic surfaces, a force coupling the mean curvature with the external potential, $K\Phi$, appears; it is also present in the shape equation along the normal principal in the case of curves. The potential $\Phi$ contributes to the effective tension of curves and surfaces and also to the orbital torque. The confinement of a curve on a surface is also addressed, in such a case, the potential contributes to the normal force through the terms $-\kappa\Phi -{\bf n}\cdot \nabla\Phi$.
