Abstract Background This study evaluated the prevalence and types of intracranial lesions through dedicated imaging analysis of primary headaches in children and compared them between patients with and without migraine. Methods This study included 190 children diagnosed with primary headache who underwent neuroimaging, including brain computed tomography (CT), CT angiography (CTA), and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All patients with primary headaches was divided into two groups, namely, the migraine and non-migraine groups, on the basis of data from electronic medical records. Clinical characteristics and imaging findings were evaluated and compared between the two groups. Results Patients with migraine were old and had a longer period from symptom onset to diagnosis. CT was normal in 71 of 95 patients, whereas 7 of 29 patients who underwent CTA had vascular lesions; the migraine group (n = 6/20, [30%]) had higher incidence of vascular lesions than the non-migraine group (n = 1/9, [11.1%]); however, there was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.382). Furthermore, 57.5% (61/106) of children showed normal brain MRI. The most common brain MRI finding was dilated perivascular space (n = 18, [16.8%]). Most perivascular spaces were located in the basal ganglia (n = 72, [75.8%]) and were in linear patterns (n = 58, [63.0%]). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion A low prevalence of significant abnormalities was found in children with primary headaches. Dilated perivascular space was the most common finding in both groups on MRI. CTA showed more vascular lesions in the migraine group than in the non-migraine group. Therefore, further evaluations are needed to reveal the relationship between vascular lesions or dilated perivascular space and pediatric primary headaches.

Objectives: To evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of an anti-rabies monoclonal antibody (mAb), ormutivimab, compared with human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG). Methods: This phase III trial was designed as a randomized, double-blind, non-inferiority clinical trial in patients aged ≥18 years with suspected World Health Organization category Ⅲ rabies exposure. The participants were randomized 1:1 to ormutivimab and HRIG groups. After thorough wound washing and injection of ormutivimab/HRIG on day 0, the vaccination was administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28. The primary endpoint was the adjusted geometric mean concentration (GMC) of rabies virus-neutralizing activity (RVNA) on day 7. The endpoint of safety included the occurrence of adverse reactions and serious adverse events. Results: A total of 720 participants were recruited. The adjusted-GMC of RVNA (0.41 IU/ml) on day 7 in ormutivimab group was not inferior to that in the HRIG group (0.41 IU/ml), with ratio of adjusted-GMC of 1.01 (95% confidence interval: 0.91, 1.14). The seroconversion rate of the ormutivimab group was higher than that of the HRIG group on days 7, 14, and 42. Most local injection sites and systemic adverse reactions reported from both groups were mild to moderate in severity. Conclusion: ormutivimab + vaccine can protect victims aged ≥18 years with category Ⅲ suspected rabies exposure as a component of postexposure prophylaxis. ormutivimab has a weaker influence on the immunity response of rabies vaccines. Introduction: The C-reactive protein -to-albumin ratio (CAR), a novel inflammation-based prognostic score, is useful in predicting clinical outcomes, including those in central nervous system diseases. However, no report has identified the relationship between CAR and long-term clinical outcomes in patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). We aimed to evaluate the relationship between CAR and long-term functional outcomes in patients with mTBI and analyze whether CAR is associated with the presence of fever. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study includes 387 adult patients with mTBI who were treated at a level-1 trauma center between 2017 and 2021. The main exposure variable was an elevated CAR, and the main outcomes were degrees of disability and quality of life measured using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). A multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the effect size of CAR on study outcomes. An interaction analysis was performed between CAR and fever on study outcomes. Results: Elevated CAR had no significant association with poor functional outcomes (aOR [95% CI]: 1.35 [0.39–4.69]) in patients with mTBI. In the interaction analysis, elevated CAR was not associated with increased poor functional outcomes in the absence of fever (1.08 [0.55–2.13]), but a significant increase in poor functional outcomes was observed when elevated CAR was accompanied by fever (1.32 [1.14–2.56)). Conclusions: Elevated CAR with fever increased the risk of poor functional recovery at 6 months after hospital discharge in patients with mTBI. Our study findings suggest the need for strategies for the prevention of long-term poor functional recovery in the presence of high CAR and fever in patients with mTBI.

Amamiclytus wuxingensis sp. nov., the third species of the genus from mainland China, is described and illustrated with specimens collected from Wuxing Village, Leishan County, Guizhou Province, China. Distribution and grouping of the new species are discussed and the key to the East Asian species of the genus is updated to accommodate species recorded from mainland China.

The objective of the present study is to examine the luminescence characteristics of UO2(CO3)34− in detail using time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy. The peak wavelengths and lifetime of UO2(CO3)34− were determined at room temperature using the two excitation laser wavelengths of 266 and 448 nm. The peak wavelengths in the luminescence spectrum exhibited hypsochromic shifts compared with those of UO22+. The lifetime determined from several samples containing various uranium concentrations was 8.9 ± 0.8 ns. Explanations for the hindrance to the observation of the luminescence spectrum of UO2(CO3)34− in previous investigations are discussed. The representative experimental parameters, which might interrupt the measurement of weak luminescence, are the insertion delay time of the detection device, the overlapped luminescence of the background materials and the primary inner filter effect in the sample solution. The aim of this work is to review the laser-based analytical techniques for the quantitative determination of uranium in aqueous solutions. Among the various types of laser-based analytical techniques, two different spectroscopic techniques based on the measurement of laser-induced luminescence of hexavalent uranium ions [U(VI)] in groundwater are reviewed in detail. In the first technique, called time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy, the time-resolved laser-induced luminescence intensities of U(VI) as a function of uranium concentration are measured to obtain the calibration curve. In the second technique, which is based on the simultaneous measurement of the U(VI) luminescence and Raman scattering of water, the calibration curve is obtained by measuring the ratio of the luminescence intensity of U(VI) to the Raman scattering intensity of water for the quantitative determination of uranium. A limit of detection of 0.03 μg/l was achieved at an excitation wavelength of 266 nm using these laser spectroscopic techniques. The results determined using these techniques are in good agreement with the results determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS). Thus, these laser-based analytical techniques will be useful to personnel requiring a rapid determination of uranium before the shipment of samples to an accredited laboratory, where relatively intricate and expensive apparatuses, such as ICPMS and radiochemical spectrometry, are used.
