Genome editing technologies are promising to improve the genetic structure of farm animals against diseases as well as increase economically important yields. Among these technologies, CRISPR has revolutionized the science of genome editing due to its numerous advantages such as accuracy, usefulness, and time-efficiency. Genome editing in large animals has always been complicated due to many technical and other complicated limitations. On the other hand, CRISPR may provide several alternatives to carry out the difficult task with more feasibility and better results. Many of the disease-promoting genes in animals have been knocked down using the CRISPR gene-editing technique thereby helping the animals to become resistant to the particular diseases. Moreover, genetic defects can be treated by knocking down the genes in animals by using CRISPR technology. Though the CRISPR technology is relevantly new, and it has not been used more comprehensively for genome editing in large animals, but still there are numerous studies making use of the CRISPR technology in chicken and pig genome editing. Furthermore, CRISPR-adopted gene editing has been used very extensively and it has generated favorable results to improve plant production to cope with the food security problem in the world. In this review, we discuss the methodology and feasibility of some of the CRISPR-based gene-editing technology and the success stories in animal science. Moreover, we will also discuss the future application of CRISPR genome editing in developing disease-resistant farm animals with more yield than before.

The aim of this study was to determine the growth performance of Akkaraman sheep raised under semi-intensive conditions in the Çiftlik district of Niğde province. A total of 6300 heads of Akkaraman ewes (6000 ewes and 300 rams) were housed in 30 farms located in the Çiftlik district and were evaluated between 2016 and 2020. Birth weight data from 28481 lambs and live weight data from 27234 lambs were used at the age of 90 days. The average birth weight of Akkaraman sheep lambs was 4.07 kg, the average live weight was 24.18 kg at the 90th day. The Effect of year, dam age, herd, birth type, and sex were found statistically significant on birth weight and 90-day live weights of the Akkaraman lambs. it can be concluded that the breeding program carried out on Akkaraman sheep raised in Çiftlik district can improve growth characteristics of lambs., Bu çalışmanın amacı Niğde İli Çiftlik ilçesinde yarı entansif koşullarda yetiştirilen Akkaraman kuzuların büyüme performansını saptamakdır. Araştırmanın hayvan materyalini, Çiftlik ilçesine bağlı 30 işletmede bulunan 300 baş koç, 6000 baş Akkaraman koyunu ile onların kuzuları oluşturmuştur. Araştırma 2016-2020 yılları arasında 5 yıl sürdürülmüş ve çalışma süresince 28841 baş kuzu doğum ağırlığı, 27234 baş kuzunun 90. gün canlı ağırlığı saptanmıştır. Akkaraman ırkı kuzuların doğum ağırlığının ortalaması 4.07 kg ve 90. gün canlı ağırlık ortalaması da 24.18 kg olarak belirlenmiştir. Kuzuların doğum ağırlıkları ve 90. gün canlı ağırlıkları üzerine yıl, ana yaşı, sürü, doğum tipi ve cinsiyetin etkisi önemli bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak, Çiftlik ilçesinde  yetiştirilen Akkaraman ırkı koyunlar üzerinde yürütülen ıslah çalışması kuzuların büyüme özelliklerinin iyileştirilebileceği kanaatine varılmıştır

Conventional breeding programs have limitations while working with the quantitative traits and traits with low heritability. Furthermore, the identification of defective genes that can cause the development of a disease cannot be identified through conventional strategies until the development of the disease. The Discovery of molecular markers has made it easier for animal breeders and animal geneticists to enhance the productivity of animal breeding programs. Different kinds of molecular markers, RAPDs, SNPs, AFLPs, QTLs, and SSR are being used in animal breeding for gene mapping, phylogenetic studies, disease resistance studies, genetic conservation, and genetic diversity. Molecular markers also provide the advantage of working with low heritability and complex quantitative traits. QTL markers are being used for quantitative traits like milk production meat production because they are linked to quantitative trait genes. Marker-assisted breeding has helped the breeding programs to increase the efficiency of the breeding programs. Molecular markers like SNPs can be used to detect the mutation in genes at an early age. Microsatellites have been used at a very large scale for phylogenetic identification. In this review, we will discuss the importance and application of molecular markers in animal breeding and genetics.

The aim of the study was to determine the demographic structure of sheep breeding farms in the province of Niğde related to herd management, herd health, farmers' expectations and problems. The study was conducted by collecting the data from 154 sheep breeders directly by surveying them in person in the province of Niğde in 2019-2020. It was determined that the average age of the breeders engaged in sheep breeding in Niğde was 34.4, and the education Level of 52.6% was primary school, 38.5% secondary school, 6.7% high school and 2.2% university graduates. The results showed that generally (94.4%) Akkaraman sheep are raised in the commercial sheep farms and their average herd size is 133.6 heads. It was found that the 61.8% of sheep breeding is done in village herds, 50.3% of sheep are housed in closed pens and 93.7% of the needs for shepherds is met from within the family. A 62.3% of the commercial farms keep breeding rams in the herd throughout the year and 93.9% of the ram participation method is by free-standing. while the breeders meet the breeding animal supply from their own farms at a rate of 88.1%; and also, these breeders get a 61.4% of their income source from the sale of sheep meat. The major problems of the breeders are the inadequacy of pastures, high feed prices, finding buyers the lower value of animal products, insufficient support and incentives, and importing the animal products and not being able to provide qualified breeding rams., Bu çalışma 2019-2020 yılında Niğde ilinde sürü yönetimi personeli kurs programına katılan ve merkeze bağlı köylerde koyunculuk yapan 154 yetiştiriciye ait işletmelerin demografik yapısı, çiftleştirme yöntemi ve doğum mevsimi, sağım yöntemi, sürü sağlığı uygulamaları ile beklenti ve sorunlarının belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılmıştır. Niğde il merkezine bağlı köylerde koyunculuk yapan işletmelerdeki yetiştiricilerin yaş ortalamasının 34,4 olduğu, eğitim durumlarının yarıdan fazlasının (%52,6) ilkokul; %38,5?inin ortaokul %6,7?sinin lise ve %2,2?sininde üniversite mezunu olduğu saptanmıştır. İşletmeler genellikle (%94,4) Akkaraman ırkı koyun yetiştirmekte ve sürü büyüklüğü 133,6 baş?dır. Koyun yetiştiriciliğinin %61,8?i köy sürü halinde yapıldığı, koyunların %50,3?nün kapalı ağıllarda barındırıldığı ve çoban ihtiyacının %93,7?sinin aile içinden karşılandığı belirlenmiştir. Koyunculuk işletmeleri öncelikli sorun olarak; meraların korunması, hazine arazilerinin tarıma açılmaması, yem fiyatlarının düşürülmesi ve damızlık koç temini olarak sıralamışlardır.

Livestock is the major contributor in the agriculture sector, besides meat and hides, and milk is the chief product obtained in terms of nutrition from livestock. 85% of the global milk production is obtained from cows followed by buffalo (11%), goat (2.3%), sheep (1.4%), and camel (0.2%). In contrast to Cow, Sheep farming is famous in its worth as it does not depend on seasonality for its peak production and rich in milk fat contents. The advanced market of dairy products prefers the prebiotics and probiotics of sheep milk in comparison to other livestock. Awassi sheep is known as a very popular and proliferative breed in the non-European region due to its ability to absorb the environmental deviation and adapts the feeding fluctuation from steppe to the highly intensive system. In general, Awassi ewe can produce an average of 60-80 liters milk with lactation length of 150 days under different methods of production while an improved Awassi ewe can yield 504 liters milk within 214 days of lactation length under a well-managed production system. Turkish Awassi breed reported an increase from 67 kg to 152 kg in 7 years through proper selection and breeding. In the middle east, the Awassi is considered as a triple purpose breed but it's a very famous type of rearing is as a dairy sheep. Several factors including lactation length and number, birth type, electrical conductivity, season, parity, milking frequency and production year are considered important for the awassi sheep production.  &nbsp,   &nbsp

This study was carried out in 2019 order to obtain the current information about the livestock activities, which constitute the main sources of income of the Yoruks, which still exist in the Mediterranean and Eastern Anatolia regions. This study was carried out in 60 enterprises that are still engaged in nomadic stockbreeding. 28 open-ended questions were asked in the questionnaire. In this study, various data about Yoruk were collected through observation, questionnaire and interview. The answers to the open-ended questions were evaluated in the study. During the interviews, audio recordings were taken with permission. In addition, various visuals of the culture of the bearers were also photographed. When the data obtained from the study are evaluated, it is seen that today and still the verbal and practical knowledge they have learned from their ancestors in animal breeding and animal feeding subjects, which are the main economic activities of the participants. The most distinctive features of the judges are that they define themselves as people who can solve all kinds of problems. However, especially young people do not want to be nomadic in the future. As a reason for this situation, they show the problems they experienced in education, low income, high cost of animal feed, lack of state support for the participants, lack of communication problems such as telephone and internet in pasture, highland and overwintering areas., Bu çalışma, halen Akdeniz ve Doğu Anadolu bölgesinde varlıklarını sürdüren Yörüklerin başlıca gelir kaynaklarını oluşturan hayvancılık faaliyetleri ile konargöçer kültürüne ait güncel bilgilerin elde edilmesi amacıyla 2019 yılında yapılmıştır. Yörükler, kadim geleneklerine uygun olarak göçer yaşamı benimsemiş gruplardır. Bu nedenle de yaşamlarını sürdürebilecekleri ve yıl boyunca farklı mevsimlerde hayvanlarını besleyebilecekleri otlaklara, yaylak ve kışlaklara ihtiyaç duymuşlardır. Bu çalışma halen göçer hayvancılık yapan 60 işletmede yürütülmüştür. Ankette 28 adet açık uçlu soru sorulmuştur.  Bu çalışmada Yörüklerle ilgili çeşitli veriler gözlem, anket ve mülakat yoluyla toplanmıştır.
