Aim: This review article summarizes the current clinical practice guidelines around disease definitions and risk stratifications, and the treatment of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Recently completed and ongoing clinical trials of novel and investigational therapies in Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)-naive, BCG-recurrent, and BCG-unresponsive patient populations are also described, e.g., those involving immune checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies, other chemotherapy regimens, vaccines, and viral-or bacterial-based treatments. Finally, a brief overview of enhanced cystoscopy and drug delivery systems for the diagnosis and treatment of NMIBC is provided. Background: A global shortage of access to BCG is affecting the management of BCG-naive and BCG-recurrent/unresponsive NMIBC; hence, there is an urgent need to assist patients and urologists to enhance the treatment of this disease. Methods: Searches of ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, and Google Scholar were conducted. Published guidance and conference proceedings from major congresses were reviewed. Conclusion: Treatment strategies for NMIBC are generally consistent across guidelines. Several novel therapies have demonstrated promising antitumor activity in clinical trials, including in high-risk or BCG-unresponsive disease. The detection, diagnosis, surveillance, and treatment of NMIBC have also been improved through enhanced disease detection. (C) 2021 Pfizer Inc. and the Author(s). Elsevier Inc.

We briefly review the Trajectory Statistical Methods (TSMs) most used in literature for source identification, essentially based on the concept of Residence Time. Then, we introduce a statistical methodology that, starting from the Concentration Field method, takes into account only the peak values in the concentration time series measured at multiple receptor sites. We use virtual simulations to evaluate the performance of our approach. In order to derive concentration time series at multiple receptors, the Lagrangian Dispersion Model (LSM) FLEXPART is used, in the time forward mode, to simulate dispersion from a known emission source. Then, virtual concentration data are available in the receptor sites. As in many TSMs, Residence Times need to be computed and, to this goal, we use FLEXPART, but in the backward mode, that is, FLEXPART is applied to compute the backward trajectories from the receptor sites. Then, our proposed statistical method is applied to the computed Residence Times and to the concentration data to reconstruct the spatial distribution of emission sources. The numerical results show that our approach could overcome the problem of ghost sources. Further, the proposed method requires simulation times shorter that those required in other methods, since it makes use of a relatively small set of trajectories. This could be of some interest in the characterization of impact studies and local climatic scenarios.

In order to evaluate and compare the advantages related with the use of the robust counterpart of three models of portfolio selection, we performed an implementation of the models both in a robust and a non-robust way. The comparison is done through an ex-post analysis on the results obtained by the ex-ante implementation of each model in selecting from a set of 28 European hedge funds during 2007, a “wonderful” year of data for model stressing and backtesting. As we shall see, the strategies obtained by means of the robust approach have a definitely better performance and, among the robust models, CVaR dominates the other competitors because of its coherent nature.

The fragile histidine triad (FHIT) gene at chromosome 3p14.2 is a tumor suppressor gene that is altered mainly by deletion in a large fraction of human tumors, including breast cancers. To evaluate the potential of FHIT gene therapy in this type of cancer, we have studied the biological effects of adenoviral FHIT transduction (Ad-FHIT) in breast cancer cell lines. The results showed that, after FHIT restoration in BT-549, MDA-MB-436, and HCC1806 cells, they underwent apoptosis by activation of the intrinsic pathway. In all three cell lines infected with Ad-FHIT, we have found activation of caspase-2, which is required for permeabilization of mitochondria, release of cytochrome c, and apoptosis. Furthermore, Fhit overexpression produces alteration in cell cycling properties, as well as reduction of the tumorigenic potential in nude mice.

This paper presents the impact of different scenarios of future emissions from ships taking into account the implementation of the Directive 2012/33/EU as far as the sulphur content in fuels is concerned in the port of Brindisi. This is one of the most important of the Adriatic Sea, located in the south-east coast of Italy. Ship emissions are estimated through the MEET methodology using appropriate emission factors for manoeuvring and hoteling phases. Numerical simulations of NOx, SO2 and primary PM emissions and dispersion are performed by means of the mesoscale model BOLCHEM coupled with ADMS-Urban dispersion model. This study extends our previous work presented at the 15th Harmo Conference in Madrid, by considering different sulphur content in the fuel oil to analyse the impact of future emission scenarios on the foreseen reduction of pollutant concentrations and assess the potential improvement of air quality in the port area.
