Background: Periodontal intra-bony defects are challenging conditions in dental practice, often requiring regenerative approaches for successful treatment. This clinical study aimed to compare the effectiveness of plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) versus xenogenic bone graft (BXG) in addressing intra-bony defects. Methods: Forty patients aged between 30 and 50 years presenting with generalized periodontitis were included. The study assessed various parameters, including relative attachment level (RAL); probing pocket depth (PPD); gingival marginal level (GML); intra-bony defect depth (IBDD) at baseline, 3, and 6 months; and level of pain, post-operative bleeding, and swelling, as patient-reported outcomes during the first seven days post operation. Results: The results revealed that both PRGF and BXG treatments led to significant reductions in IBDD over the 6-month study period. PRGF demonstrated significant advantages in GML enhancement and post-operative pain management during the initial post-treatment days. However, BXG showed a significantly greater reduction in IBDD compared to PRGF. Post-operative bleeding and swelling levels were comparable between the two treatments. Conclusions: These findings underscore the efficacy of both PRGF and BXG in periodontal regeneration, with treatment decisions guided by patient-specific factors and clinical goals. Introduction: The study of facial profiles in the dental field is very important for the diagnosis and the dental and orthodontic treatment plan. The aim of this study is to analyze the three-dimensional morphology of the faces of 269 growing patients with Class I and II occlusions, focusing on children aged between 6 and 9 years old. The analysis was conducted using a non-invasive computerized system, which allowed for the automatic collection of facial landmarks and the subsequent reconstruction of three-dimensional coordinates. Materials and methods: The sample comprised 269 children within the specified age range. Each child's facial features were captured using the non-invasive computerized system, which utilized two infrared CCD cameras, real-time hardware for label recognition, and software for three-dimensional landmark reconstruction. Sixteen cutaneous facial landmarks were automatically collected for each participant. From these landmarks, 10 angular and 15 linear measurements, as well as five direct distance rates, were derived. The mean values for each age class were calculated separately for children with bilateral Angle Class I occlusion and compared with those for children with bilateral Class II occlusion. In all children, the left and right occlusal classes were measured as suggested by Katz. Results: The analysis revealed notable differences, primarily in the three-dimensional angular measurements between children with Class I and II occlusions. Specifically, Class II children exhibited more convex faces in the sagittal plane and a less prominent lower jaw compared to Class I children. However, no significant differences were observed in linear measurements, except for the lower facial height rate, which varied inconsistently across age groups between the two occlusion types. Discussion and Conclusions: the findings of this research highlight distinct three-dimensional facial morphological differences between children with Class I and II occlusions. While Class II children tended to have more convex facial profiles and less prominent lower jaws, linear measurements showed minimal variation between the two occlusion types. Introduction: Transparent orthodontic aligners have revolutionized dentistry and orthodontics since the 1990s, offering advantages over traditional fixed appliances in terms of hygiene, comfort, and aesthetics. With the increasing demand for invisible orthodontic treatments, clear aligners have gained popularity, prompting research into materials to enhance their efficacy and performance. Materials and Methods: A scoping review was conducted using electronic databases (Pubmed, Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus) to identify studies on clear aligner materials published in the last decade. Selection criteria focused on studies specific to dental materials, excluding those unrelated to materials or clear aligners. Results: The review included 11 relevant studies evaluating 17 different clear aligner materials. Materials such as polyvinyl chloride derivatives, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), and polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PETG) were commonly used. The studies assessed mechanical, physical, chemical, and optical properties, as well as thermoforming effects, stress decay, and surface characteristics. Discussion and Conclusions: Various materials exhibited distinct properties, with PETG materials offering transparency and flexibility, while TPU-based materials like Smart Track providing durability and elasticity. Thermoforming affected mechanical properties, with both PETG and TPU materials showing decreased efficacy post-thermoforming. Polymer blending improved mechanical properties, but variations existed among different brands and materials. Clear aligner materials exhibit diverse characteristics, influencing their suitability for orthodontic use. PETG-based materials offer transparency and flexibility, while TPU-based materials provide durability and elasticity.
