Introduction: Non-normative sexual behaviors were traditionally studied from a psychopathological perspective, although nowadays a distinction is made between paraphilia (nonpathological) and paraphilic disorder (mental disorder). Methods: The present study aims to examine the differences between a group of millennials (n = 173) and centennials (n = 159) in their appetite for these sexual behaviors without the preconception of these behaviors as harmful or pathological. Results: Differences in appetite related to exhibitionism and foot fetishism were found in the first instance, with millennials showing a greater appetite for these. When including sexual orientation in the analysis, in addition to exhibitionism and foot fetishism, differences were found in behaviors related to asphyxiation, bestiality and urophilia. Millennials and homobisexual centennials showed the highest appetite for exhibitionism behaviors, homo-bisexual centennials for choking behaviors and bestiality and homo-bisexual millennials for foot fetishism and urophilia-related behaviors. Discussion: Exploring nonnormative behaviors from a non-psychopathological perspective will help us to understand the evolution of sexual appetite as part of human sexual diversity and to prevent risky behaviors. CRITICAL theory , *AESTHETICS , *CENTENNIALS - Abstract
In this essay to mark the centenary of the Frankfurt School, I situate the (his)story of domination between critical theory and critical fabulism. The version of this (his)story crafted by the first generation of Frankfurt School thinkers is anchored in the idea of 'the masses', and in the first part of the article, I track this through the work of Theodore Adorno, drawing on Grant Kester's writings on 'exculpatory critique'. The second part of the paper pivots to Saidiya Hartman's method of critical fabulism, which affords a way of refiguring the relationship between aesthetics and politics while also refusing the idea of the masses. In contrast to Adorno's Aesthetic Theory, which is an all-or-nothing wager with a future currently foreclosed and forever deferred, in the world(s) that Hartman fabulates, the revolution is always already happening. In the centennial year since Nina Cassian's birth and a decade after her passing, this article delves into her Spargan poems. Drawing comparisons with well-established nonsense verse traditions, this article argues that Spargan is not a constructed language but rather a variety of Romanian-sounding speech. While Spargan poems maintain Romanian prosody and syntactic structures, they intentionally lack semantic content. However, Cassian's careful manipulation of language demonstrates her linguistic creativity. By exploring the boundary between language and nonsense, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of Cassian's literary experimentation and her contribution to the tradition of poetic playfulness in Romanian literature. The essay analyzes the role of Western art institutions in supporting and promoting imperialist views on both the cultural and political history of what once was the Russian Empire, then the Soviet Union, and then the so-called "post-Soviet" space while they universalized and homogenized the multiple, complex, heterogenic, interconnected voices that temporally and spatially fell within the boundaries of the Russian Empire in its various forms. It looks into the case of the market-driven umbrella terms of "Russian art" and "Russian avant-garde," as presented in several exhibitions in major Western museums between 2016 and 2019, dedicated to the centennial of the October Revolution, often called the Russian Revolution. The research focuses on the artists connected to Ukraine. It attempts to do them epistemic justice by restoring the complexity of the interconnections, contexts, and traditions they grew out of and were inspired by, as well as the ones they reworked, deconstructed, and revolutionized. By referring to decolonial thinkers, it combines and compares how imperial thinking, frames of reference, and coloniality work in symbolic and knowledge production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The centenary of IFLA is approaching. IFLA's Library History Special Interest Group has embarked on various projects to prepare for the event, including the compilation of an edited volume of scholarly chapters on IFLA's history. This article originated as a background paper for members of the Library History Special Interest Group and others who may be contemplating conducting research on IFLA with a view to the centenary in 2027. An overview is given of published sources for the historiography of IFLA. These include publications about IFLA published by IFLA and its structures, and by other parties. IFLA's own publications include guidelines and standards; policy statements; reports on the work of its professional units and strategic advisory committees; the IFLA Publications Series; and report series such as the IFLA World Reports and Trend Reports. Much of this material is published on IFLA's websites, both current and archived. It provides valuable evidence of IFLA's activities. In this article, the emphasis is on material about IFLA published by IFLA itself and by other parties. The literature about IFLA includes historical accounts published as articles, books, book chapters and theses. Many contain useful bibliographies. With a view to identifying topics and themes for the historiography of IFLA, the subject matter of some 294 items about IFLA published from 2000 to 2022 inclusive is analysed. Brief attention is paid to possible themes emerging from the literature that may be useful in developing research on IFLA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Through a combination of the methods of theoretical review and historical-narrative analysis, this study seeks to unveil the main catalysts of the Turkish Revolution by addressing its structural and subjective dynamics in tandem. The literature lacks a theoretically-guided and systematic study of the Turkish Revolution, which marked its centenary in 2023—a significant gap that this paper seeks to fill. The article also contributes to the broader field of revolution studies by presenting an integrated framework that transcends the current fragmented state of prevailing theories. Based on a critical synthesis of revolution theories, the first part of our empirical analysis focuses on the structural dynamics underpinning the Turkish Revolution, with special emphasis on two chief factors: administrative and socio-economic breakdown. Demonstrating that the mere existence of class-structural strains and mass grievances does not automatically trigger revolutionary action, the second part reveals how the Revolution unfolded through a convergence of mediating factors associated with collective agency, namely leadership and ideational dynamics. On its seventeenth centenary, I seek to reassess the theological significance of the Nicene Creed, drawing inspiration from Athanasius, who came to see the Creed as a privileged transmission of the apostolic teaching based on the Revelation granted by Christ. I attempt to bring into focus the nature of Revelation, referring to Karl Barth and Jean-Luc Marion. Criticizing the deflationary approach to Nicaea and Athanasius, which has been common of late, I read the layers of meaning in the Creed with special attention to the way the Creed builds on Johannine themes, and I reassess its ousia language. CLIMATE change ,COLOR ,MARINE ecology ,MARINE biology ,CENTENNIALS ,PHYTOPLANKTON - Abstract
The world's oceans and seas are changing rapidly due to several natural and anthropogenic reasons. Among these, the largest and likely most threatening to marine life being the climate crisis and rising sea temperatures. Studying the dominant primary producers of most marine ecosystems, phytoplankton, and their response to these alterations is challenging, yet essential due to the critical role phytoplankton play in both the oceans and wider biosphere. Satellites are a crucial tool used to study phytoplankton but lack the timespan needed to accurately observe abundance patterns in response to climate change. Historical oceanographic data are increasingly being used to understand changes in the abundance of phytoplankton over the last century. Here, we retrace Secchi depth and Forel-Ule colour scale surveys performed during the "Pola" expeditions between 1890-1898 using contemporary satellite data, to assess changes in water colour and clarity (and by extension phytoplankton abundance) in the Red Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea over the past century. The results show a significant greening of both regions investigated as well as a decrease in water clarity. The Red Sea Forel-Ule colour increased by 0.83 (± 0.08) with an average decrease in Secchi depth of 5.07 m (± 0.44). The Forel-Ule colour in the Eastern Mediterranean increased by 0.50 (± 0.07) and the historic Secchi depth readings were an average of 8.85 m (± 0.47) deeper than present day. Changes in Secchi depth between periods were greater than that which may have been caused by differences in the size of the Secchi disk used on the "Pola" expeditions, estimated using traditional Secchi depth theory. There was no clear change in seasonality of phytoplankton abundance and blooms, although winter months saw many of the largest changes in both measured variables. We discuss potential drivers for this change and the challenges and limitations of combining historical and modern datasets of water clarity and colour. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We approached this topic in order to present a tab from the history of Romanian religious music, conditioned by a memorable event: the celebration of the centenary of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Mother of God, a community of nuns within which, among the activities specific to the Greek-Catholic cult, there is also a musical activity sustained, which on this occasion materialized in an album of religious songs dedicated to the Most Holy Mother. In this context, we presented a short history of the Congregation, some data about the musical activity within this community and the stages of work followed in the composition, recording and completion of the album of religious chants entitled Chants dedicated to the Most Holy Mother. In conclusion, the relevance of the musical and spiritual message of these chants is correlated with the activity and mission followed by the nuns within this Congregation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Marsh lateral expansion and retreat are often attributed to sediment availability, but a causal link is difficult to establish. To shed light on this problem, we analyzed changes in salt marsh area along the ~ 200-km-long Georgia coast (USA) from the 1850s to 2010s in relation to total suspended sediment (TSS) and to proxies for river sediment input and local sediment resuspension. Marsh area is characterized by large gains and losses (up to 200 m
2 /m/yr), but relatively small net change (-50 to 50 m2 /m/yr or -0.1 to 0.1%/yr). This has resulted in a general loss of marsh area, except close to the mouths of major rivers, where there is net gain. Net expansion rates decreased in the Savannah Estuary but increased in the Altamaha Estuary from the 1850s–1930s period to the 1930s–2010s period, which are consistent with observed decreases and likely increases in sediment discharge in the two estuaries, respectively. To explain the spatial patterns in the 1930s–2010s marsh area change, we estimated TSS from satellite measurements (2003 to 2020). Along the northern part of the Georgia coast, net marsh gain is positively correlated to the average TSS within the estuarine region. However, this correlation breaks down in more southern areas (Cumberland Sound). Coast-wide, there is a better correlation between TSS associated with new input from the rivers, estimated as the TSS difference between high-discharge (Jan–Mar) and low-discharge (Sept–Nov) months. To identify the effect of wave resuspension in the nearshore, we consider the TSS difference between high-wave, low-discharge (Sept–Nov) and low-wave, low-discharge periods (Jun–Aug). Wave resuspension is relatively uniform along the coast and does not explain spatial patterns of marsh area change. Sediment input from the nearshore is likely contributing to the estuarine sediment budget in Georgia, but it is not sufficient to prevent marsh lateral retreat. To identify the role of tidal resuspension and advection, we consider differences in TSS between low and high tide. This differential is relatively constant along most of the coast, but it is much lower in the southern part of the coast, suggesting a lower tidal action in this region. Sediment resuspended by tides is likely originating from internal recycling (i.e., erosion) within the estuary, and thus does not contribute to marsh lateral expansion. The proposed approach to partition TSS is a general demonstration and could be applied to other coastal regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Earlier proxy‐observational studies, and a sole modeling study, suggest that the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), an important global climate driver, exhibited multi‐scale temporal variability during the Last Millennium (LM; CE 0851–1849, with relatively high number of strong positive IOD events during the Little Ice Age (LIA; CE 1550–1749), and strong negative IOD events during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP; CE 1000–1199). Using nine model simulations from the PMIP3, we study the IOD variability during the LM after due validation of the simulated current day (CE 1850–2005) IOD variability. Majority of the models simulate relatively higher number of positive IOD events during the MWP, and negative IOD events in the LIA, commensurate with simulated background conditions. However, higher number of strong positive IOD events are simulated relative to the negative IODs during the LIA, in agreement with proxy‐observations, apparently owing to increased coupled feedback during positive IODs. Plain Language Summary: The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is a natural climate phenomenon in the tropical Indian Ocean with significant global impacts. Positive IOD (pIOD) events are apparently occurring more frequently in recent decades, which may also be due to under‐sampling associated with limited observations span. Analyzing outputs for last millennium (CE 850–1850) from climate models, validated for historical period, helps in generating relatively longer‐period the paleo‐IOD records. Our analysis of simulations of the last thousand years from multiple models indicates relatively more positive (negative) IOD events in medieval warm period—CE 1000–1200 (Little Ice Age—CE 1550–1749). While during the ICA, background conditions similar to a negative IOD were simulated, models also simulate an increase in relatively‐stronger positive IOD events in its latter part, in agreement with a proxy‐climate record. The simulated centennial changes in positive and negative IOD frequencies are associated with changes in coupled ocean‐atmospheric feedback mechanisms. Key Points: Change in the Indian Ocean mean state from the medieval warm period (MWP) to the Little Ice Age (LIA)Despite negative IOD‐like background conditions in the LIA, models and paleo‐data show more stronger positive IODs thenThere are significant changes in feedback mechanisms of IODs from the MWP to LIA [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this Editorial to the Special Issue "The Friedmann Cosmology: A Century Later", we consider an outstanding character of Friedmann's prediction of Universe expansion, which laid the foundation of modern cosmology. The list of the main discoveries made in cosmology during the last one hundred years is followed by a formulation of the standard cosmological model. The articles contributing to the Special Issue are considered in relation to this model, and to several alternative theoretical approaches. Special attention is paid to unresolved problems, such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy, Hubble tension and the pre-inflationary stage of the Universe evolution. The conclusion is made that astrophysics and cosmology are on the threshold of new fundamental discoveries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Noise in Holocene paleoclimate reconstructions can hamper the detection of centennial to millennial climate variations and diagnoses of the dynamics involved. This paper uses multiple ensembles of reconstructions to separate signal and noise and determine what, if any, centennial to millennial variations influenced North America during the past 7000 years. To do so, ensembles of temperature and moisture reconstructions were compared across four different spatial scales: multi-continent, regional, sub-regional, and local. At each scale, two independent multi-record ensembles were compared to detect any centennial to millennial departures from the long Holocene trends, which correlate more than expected from random patterns. In all cases, the potential centennial to millennial variations had small magnitudes. However, at least two patterns of centennial to millennial variability appear evident. First, large-scale variations included a prominent Mid-Holocene anomaly from 5600–5000 yr BP that increased mean effective moisture and produced temperature anomalies of different signs in different regions. The changes shifted the north–south temperature gradient in mid-latitude North America with a pattern similar to that of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Second, correlated multi-century (∼ 350 years) variations produce a distinct spectral signature in temperature and hydroclimate records along the western Atlantic margin. Both patterns differ from random variations, but they express distinct spatiotemporal characteristics consistent with separate controlling dynamics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aqueous extracts from four different American hops varieties (Mosaic, Chinook, Citra, and Centennial) were produced using the Synergy Pure technique, an innovative extraction distillation process developed by Synergy Flavours, a global specialist in the manufacturing of flavors, extracts and essences. This process is able to preserve and maximize the aromatic characteristics without increasing the bitterness of the final product. Therefore, the aim of this work is to identify the volatile and sensory characteristics of these extracts, with the additional aim to assess their suitability for brewing. GC-MS and sensory analyses were carried out on the four different aqueous extracts. The results highlighted the presence of 33 volatile compounds in a quantity that allowed us to identify the characteristics of the varieties under investigation in each extract. Sensory analysis was carried out using the expert sensory profiling technique. The results regarding the olfactory analysis of the extracts allowed us to define the aroma profiles of the four extracts, highlighting their strong correspondence with the characteristic of the varieties under investigation. Finally, the results showed that the aqueous extracts produced using the Synergy Pure extraction technique had a richer aroma profile, highlighting its higher aptitude in beer production. In 2022, Brazil commemorated two crucial moments in its historical and cultural development. Two hundred years have passed since independence from Portugal and one hundred years since the socalled Modern Art Week (Semana de Arte Moderna) in São Paulo. In addition to celebrations, the year 2022 was also a year of new perspectives on both anniversaries, especially through the lens of the First Nations of Brazil. One of the significant efforts was the article "Centenary of Art Week Mobilizes Indigenous Artists" (Centenário da Semana da Arte mobiliza artistas indígenas) and the "Manifesto of Contemporary Native Brasilian Literature" (Manifesto da Literatura Indígena Contemporânea) contained in it. The text by the Brazilian writer Trudruá Dorrico was intentionally published a week before the anniversary, on February 9, 2022, in the online magazine Ecoa. The analysis of several slogans of the manifesto will focus on the issue of tribal ancestors and "Macunaíma's grandchildren". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MYTH , *CENTENNIALS - Abstract
Analysis of the festivities organized in Tegucigalpa (Honduras) from 5 to 7 May 1905 to celebrate the third centenary of the publication of Don Quixote. The analysis allows us to understand how the figure of Cervantes was received in America as a myth of Hispanism, as well as the most common interpretation of the novel, based on the ideas imposed by Juan Varela and Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo. WORLD War II , *TWENTIETH century , *FRICTION , *IMPERFECTION , *CENTENNIALS - Abstract
The current succession of centenaries of members of a significant group of European composers who made their work in the second half of the twentieth century gives us cause to think again about the historical situation they faced, in the aftermath of the Second World War, and the ways in which their responses to that situation shaped both their creative output and the culture of the times. Using Anna Tsing's notion of friction, as a productive force emanating from the unresolved co-presence of differences, this article examines the work of György Ligeti, and considers how his experience of multiple displacements, as a European Jew who experienced both Nazi and Soviet invasions, contributed to the formation of an aesthetic of mystery and irony, formulated here as the production of the uncertain image. As the Republic of Turkey leaves a century behind, it is important to remember the National Struggle, which was the most important step in the establishment of the Republic, and the names supported the struggle in various fields. In this context, the press constitutes one of the branches of the National Struggle period. However it is not possible to compare the technology of a century ago with today's technological possibilities in terms of news production, transmission and distribution. For this reason the press activities carried out in 1919, especially in the occupied territories are very important. The study which aims to remind us of these activities on the centennial of the Republic, covers the period between 1919, the beginning of the National Struggle and October 29, 1923, when the Republic was proclaimed. In this study, in which Tasvir-i Efkar, Vakit, İkdam, İleri, Akşam, İfham and Yenigün newspapers and their pro-National Struggle attitudes are compiled from various sources, the Istanbul press that supported the struggle is described. The study concludes that the relevant press organs operating under censorship and occupation conditions exhibited a pro-National Struggle and pro-Mustafa Kemal Paşa attitude despite the difficult conditions they were in. Purpose: This study aims to explore the evolution of corporate governance through a 100-year-old Italian Barilla pasta family business from its founding to 1971. The study builds on prior research which has applied the three-circle model of family business systems in a historic context. Design/methodology/approach: Using legal records, five phases in the history of Barilla are noted. Annual reports and other sources have allowed for some more insights into business events and developments. Then, drawing on the three-circle model of family business, the corporate governance regime is mapped to the model and the family actors. Findings: The findings here support extant literature in that the systems in the three-circle model are found to overlap more in a historic setting. Challenges with the three-circle model are also noted, specifically, when corporate governance is considered across a century of an organisation's history. Originality/value: This study supports prior use of three-circle model of a family business in an historic context, providing further evidence the model is not static over time. Contrary to the original three-circle model, this study suggests that family actors can potentially occupy more than one location in the model if the non-human actor of corporate governance and its effect on human actors is also considered. The text commemorates the centenary of the publication of the Vezni Almanac, a literary collection edited by Geo Milev. The article demonstrates that the conceptual content of the almanac and its tendency towards a synthesis of the arts went beyond the national context and joined the international tendencies of the era (anti-traditionalism, anti-mimeticism, primordiality, syntheticism, humanism, etc.). Geo Milev's almanac is also considered in the context of certain Slavic literatures and cultures, with particular emphasis on its similarity to the almanac The Blue Rider, published by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. At the centennial of the Republic, the country finds itself in another moment in which the definitions of secularism or the relationship between government, religion and the public sphere are in an obvious transformation. Since coming to power, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan revolutionized Turkish politics, and in doing so has proven the Kemalists wrong. He is committed to restore Türkiye's greatness, by seeking to create its own "natural spheres of influence" and alternative power centers, without being delimited or conditioned by a regional or international guidelines. Like Türkiye itself, Erdoğan defies simplistic generalizations or Manichaean dualism alike. Türkiye occupies a crucial position - geographically and ideologically - between 'Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia - and the President of the Republic is very aware of the advantages offered by geography, instrumentalizing them to the extent that, at times, neither the East nor the West are very convinced whose side the government in Ankara is on. As the international system is facing unpredictable and fast developments, understanding regional actors' intentions, particularly of those with hegemonic ambitions, is a must. Hence, the aim of this article is to shed some light on the concept of, hedging', used more and more often to explain Türkiye's foreign policy, and to answer to a basic question: What are the main incentives behind alternative diplomatic and security discourse proliferated by Erdoğan's Türkiye? The study addresses the growing importance of sustainable purchasing trends among younger generations, specifically Millennials and Centennials, who are influenced by their digital environment and commitment to sustainable development. We conducted a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Protocols (PRISMA) to examine the role of artificial intelligence (AI) within the sustainable purchasing trends of these generations. The analysis reveals that AI, along with e-commerce, social networks and the sharing economy, is transforming purchasing decisions towards more sustainable and ethical choices. Virtual assistants and platforms such as Ant Forest promote energy-saving and sustainability behaviors among users. Companies can use AI to adapt their sustainable products to consumers' interests and foster a more sustainable marketplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Generation Z, also known as the centennials, has been widely discussed in various studies. Gen Z's behavior in consuming news and information is shown in the way they access information, choose news topics and media platforms, and determine which media they will frequently go to specifically. The purpose of this study is to explore Gen Z's consumption of news on mainstream media and the factors that influence it, and to delve into their perceptions of the function of mainstream media in exercising social control and being a trusted source of information. The method used in the research is qualitative with a case study approach. The results show that Gen Z's exploration of information is influenced by interest, locality, proximity, selfsatisfaction, and incidental matters. These five factors are closely related to the specific characteristics of Gen Z and can be input for local and national mainstream media to follow the direction of development that is now held by the young generation. Mainstream media also remains Gen Z's reference for truth verification; even though they do not have a tendency to be loyal to one media and deliberately access the web pages of mainstream media directly

NATIONAL character , *ANTI-imperialist movements , *SUBCONTINENTS , *DIPLOMACY , *HISTORIOGRAPHY , *COUNTRIES , *AMERICAN national character - Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to trace U.S. imaginaries, representations, and uses made during the cycle of Latin America's centennial celebrations by a number of men of culture, diplomacy, and regional politics who played prominent roles in discussions about how the countries in the subcontinent should position themselves and act toward one another and toward the United States. By analyzing the multiple references and uses of symbols, signs, and other attributes of the Northern nation that circulated between 1910 and 1926 in a series of speeches, conferences, essays, articles, and books -largely unnoticed by the historiography on the subject-, it will be possible to observe how different images of such country were constructed and disseminated in order to promote and legitimize certain political-ideological searches and bets. Contrary to readings that have reduced the Latin American map at the time to the tension between Pan-Americanism and anti-imperialism, this article ultimately aims to make this image more complex by repositioning other uses and meanings around the United States at a particular moment of the continent's history, in which its imperialist expansion encountered a systematic search by Latin American countries to reassert their interests, positions, and national identities.
