9. VR-Caps: A Virtual Environment for Capsule Endoscopy

Abstract

Current capsule endoscopes and next-generation robotic capsules for diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases are complex cyber-physical platforms that must orchestrate complex software and hardware functions. The desired tasks for these systems include visual localization, depth estimation, 3D mapping, disease detection and segmentation, automated navigation, active control, path realization and optional therapeutic modules such as targeted drug delivery and biopsy sampling. Data-driven algorithms promise to enable many advanced functionalities for capsule endoscopes, but real-world data is challenging to obtain. Physically-realistic simulations providing synthetic data have emerged as a solution to the development of data-driven algorithms. In this work, we present a comprehensive simulation platform for capsule endoscopy operations and introduce VR-Caps, a virtual active capsule environment that simulates a range of normal and abnormal tissue conditions (e.g., inflated, dry, wet etc.) and varied organ types, capsule endoscope designs (e.g., mono, stereo, dual and 360{\deg}camera), and the type, number, strength, and placement of internal and external magnetic sources that enable active locomotion. VR-Caps makes it possible to both independently or jointly develop, optimize, and test medical imaging and analysis software for the current and next-generation endoscopic capsule systems. To validate this approach, we train state-of-the-art deep neural networks to accomplish various medical image analysis tasks using simulated data from VR-Caps and evaluate the performance of these models on real medical data. 20. AN ANALYSIS OF FIBER PROPERTIES IN SECOND CROP COTTON CULTIVATED USING TWO DIFFERENT SOWING METHODS.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of various sowing methods on the quality characteristics of second-crop cotton fiber during the 2015-2016 production seasons in the trial field of the Batı Akdeniz Agricultural Research Institute in Antalya, Turkey. Seven cotton genotypes, including five commercial cotton cultivars and two cotton lines, were employed in a randomized block experimental design with divided plots. Two different tillage processes, namely direct sowing on stubble and sowing after traditional tillage, were implemented. Significant differences were observed among genotypes for all examined fiber quality traits. Notably, short fiber ratio and elasticity properties exhibited significant differences between applications. Short fiber ratios ranged from 6.26% to 7.95%, with a significant year*genotype interaction. Fiber strengths varied between 30.65 g/tex and 37.69 g/tex, with a significant year*application interaction. These variations were attributed to the climatic environmental factors during the trial seasons and the region's extended history, indicating their substantial impact. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Growing stages of plants are the most sensitive phase to abiotic stress which leads to decrease in yield. The object of this study was to evaluate the biochemical and molecular properties of seven tomato cultivars and to observe their responses to salinity during growth stages. Greenhouse experiment was performed to study differences in genotypes response to salinity with four doses (50 mM, 100 mM, 150 mM and 200 mM). Differences in growth parameters, proline accumulation, lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide were tested in order to put forward the relative tolerance or sensitivity of tomato cultivars. These results were also supported by expression using semi quantitative RT-PCR of two stress related genes, SIVOZ1, and SIWRKY8. Overall results demonstrated that, all evaluated parameters increased with 200 mM NaCI treatment for all cultivars. Although the effects of salinity stress differentiated in different genotypes, our results provided some evidence that Seyran, Ciko and Indigo Rose Black tomato cultivars had higher salt tolerance potential than rest of the cultivars. This is the first report of evaluation of Turkish tomato hybrids based on biochemical and molecular data and results could be useful for determination of future breeding strategies for salt tolerance in tomato.

Abstract

Matrices representations of integrations of wavelets have a major role to obtain approximate solutions of integral, differential and integro-differential equations. In the present work, operational matrix representation of rth integration of Jacobi wavelets is introduced and to find these operational matrices, all details of the processes are demonstrated for the first time. Error analysis of offered method is also investigated in present study. In the planned method, approximate solutions are constructed with the truncated Jacobi wavelets series. Approximate solutions of the modified Camassa-Holm equation and Degasperis-Procesi equation linearized using quasilinearization technique are obtained by presented method. Applicability and accuracy of presented method is demonstrated by examples. The proposed method is also convergent even when a minor number of grid points. The numerical results obtained by offered technique are compatible with those in the literature.

38. Genome-wide Development and Physical Mapping of SSR Markers in Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris L.).

Abstract

Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is one of the important sugar crops. Thus, development of molecular tools to understand molecular mechanism of agronomic traits such as root yield and sucrose content by using comprehensive genome analysis is important for sugar beet molecular breeding. A prime to such a comprehensive genome analysis is high throughout marker development. In the present study, mining of sugar beet genome for simple sequence repeats (SSRs) revealed 37704 motifs. Dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant accounting for 69.3 %. A total of 22500 SSR primers were developed and these markers were physically mapped in sugar beet genome. The markers distributed over nine chromosomes and the map had a higher resolution (16.73 kb/SSR). Also 102 SSR markers were found to be putatively associated with carbohydrate synthesis. The present study is the first report of genome-wide development of SSR markers and construction of SSR based physical map in sugar beet. SSR markers increased the number of available sugar beet specific SSR markers by 55-fold. SSR markers developed in the present study are valuable molecular genetic tools for comprehensive genome analysis to facilitate sugar beet molecular breeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
