The present study investigates the presence of α-terpinyl ethyl ether in wine and gives insights on the chemical processes leading to its formation. The analytical determination of (S)-α-terpinyl ethyl ether and (R)-α-terpinyl ethyl ether enantiomers was obtained by enantioselective comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography. Applying the two isomers as variables in combination with closely related terpenes, an accurate classification model of wines for the grape variety was successfully applied to a representative set of single-variety wine samples. Although presenting relatively low absolute concentrations, α-terpinyl ethyl ether (along with α-terpineol) resulted to be an inevitable and irreversible degradation product of linalool. In fact, a conversion study from enantiomerically pure (R)-linalool showed a major loss of the initial chiral configuration, i.e. only a very small enantiomeric excess characterized the product. α-Terpineol itself was also confirmed to be a precursor of α-terpinyl ethyl ether, however this process showed a smaller conversion over two weeks than from linalool, and without losses of the initial chiral configuration. In the real samples, the concentration of α-terpinyl ethyl ether was found to be much lower than that of α-terpineol, regardless of the alcohol-to-water ratio. Finally, olfactory descriptors were qualitatively attributed to each α-terpinyl ethyl ether enantiomer.

O objetivo deste texto foi narrar experiências da extensão universitária desenvolvidas por estudantes e professores dos cursos de Fisioterapia e Medicina da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina com mulheres que vivem com transtornos psiquiátricos. Foram realizadas 32 oficinas de arte-cuidado no âmbito do projeto Nise da Silveira, incluindo dispositivos como a pintura, contação de histórias, música, escrita, fotografia, dança e colagem. Participaram 30 mulheres que residem em um Lar de Acolhimento no município de Araranguá, Santa Catarina. As experiências narradas trazem em si a potência para transformar a forma como estudantes da área da saúde significam e ofertam cuidado a pessoas com transtornos psiquiátricos. Ainda, contribuem para qualificar a formação e a atuação de profissionais implicados com a realidade social, com o Sistema Único de Saúde e com a vida, cuja ética baseia-se no vínculo, na produção de novas subjetividades e em práticas pautadas no afeto.

Este estudo analisa narrativas sobre violência no âmbito do cuidado contra pessoas idosas dependentes no Brasil. A pesquisa possui abordagem qualitativa e caráter multicêntrico, realizada no ano de 2019 em oito municípios brasileiros: Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Fortaleza, Recife, Teresina, Manaus e Araranguá. Foram entrevistas semiestruturadas com 193 pessoas: 64 pessoas idosas com dependência física e/ou cognitiva, 72 cuidadores familiares, 27 cuidadores formais, vinte profissionais de saúde e dez gestores. As informações foram analisadas por meio da “Análise de narrativa”. Abandono, negligência e maus-tratos foram evidenciados. As violências foram cometidas pelos familiares e no ambiente domiciliar. As consequências para as pessoas idosas incluem sofrimento psicológico, adoecimento físico e redução da qualidade de vida. Constatou-se a importância dos profissionais de saúde na identificação da violência, a negligência estatal na atenção e a implementação de políticas públicas específicas.

Abstract This registered report evaluated the efficacy of an Italian adaptation of the "Identity Project," a school-based intervention promoting adolescents' cultural identity. Migration background and environmental sensitivity were explored as moderators. After adapting and piloting the intervention, a randomized controlled trial was conducted between October 2021 and January 2022 on 747 ethnically diverse adolescents (M[subscript age] = 15 years, 53% girls, 31% with migration background) attending 45 classrooms randomly assigned to the intervention or control condition. Bayesian analyses confirmed the efficacy of the Italian IP in enhancing exploration processes (Cohen's d = 0.18), whereas no cascading effect on resolution emerged. Youth with higher (vs. lower) levels of environmental sensitivity benefited more in terms of exploration. Implications for developmental theory and practice are discussed.

A global challenge for developmental psychology is to better understand how young people around the world make sense of their identities growing up in pluralistic societies. The study of ethnic-racial identity provides an important lens for this process. This paper describes how five European countries (Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, and Sweden) adapted the Identity Project, an 8-week school-based intervention originally developed in the United States to promote adolescents' ethnic-racial identity exploration and resolution. Across the five countries, deep structure adaptations included revised or added content regarding key terminology used, a focus on migration and foreignness rather than "race," and discussions regarding national and regional identities, in addition to ethnic-racial identities, and how they may relate to one another. The process and content of adaptation we describe addresses two fundamental issues relevant to a globalized developmental psychology: (1) contributing to theoretical advances on key aspects of development by taking sociohistorical context seriously, and (2) moving between etic and emic perspectives to arrive at psychological constructs that can be appropriately studied across diverse cultural contexts.

O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender as motivações e as implicações do cuidado de familiares idosos dependentes realizado por homens. Com base em pesquisa qualitativa realizada entre julho e dezembro de 2018 em seis cidades nas cinco regiões brasileiras, foram entrevistados 11 homens que desempenham a tarefa de cuidadores informais. Eles assumiram essa tarefa em razão de as mulheres estarem exaustas e adoecidas, assim como por reciprocidade afetiva e marital. Os filhos manifestaram desconforto na administração de cuidados pessoais aos pais, enquanto os cônjuges apresentaram dificuldades com atividades domésticas. Os cuidadores solitários estavam cansados, com dores, privação do sono, sintomas depressivos e solidão. O suporte prestado por familiares e cuidadores formais mostrou-se valioso para amenizar o sofrimento dos cuidadores que relutavam em pedir ajuda. Há necessidade de os profissionais de saúde estarem atentos aos prestadores de cuidados informais aos familiares.

Tropical rainforests offer a diverse array of real or potential forest products (FP). However, the ongoing conversion of these forests to agriculture raises concerns about the future availability and sustainability of FP. In this study, we examined the changes in availability (tree density and above-ground biomass) and species richness of native trees, recognized by local communities as sources of FP, with the forest-to-agriculture conversion in a Mesoamerican tropical rainforest region. Specifically, we tested hypotheses on whether species with FP had a higher, equal, or lower reduction in the availability, diversity, and probability of persistence than species without FP with the forest conversion. We interviewed landowners to identify tree species with FP and documented management practices and regulations for using these species. In fourteen 1 km2 landscapes, encompassing the entire range of forest-to-agriculture conversion (from 0 % to ∼100 % old-growth forest cover), we analyzed changes in the availability and richness of species with and without FP. In each landscape, we randomly established 30 plots (each 706.8 m2, totaling 420 plots and 29.7 ha sampling area) covered by old-growth forest, secondary forest, or agricultural fields (mostly cattle pastures). Over four years, we surveyed all trees with a diameter at breast height ≥ 10 cm in these plots. With the forest conversion, assemblages of tree species with FP exhibited a higher reduction in aboveground biomass than species without FP. However, assemblages of species with FP exhibited a significantly lower reduction in abundance, species richness, and a higher probability of persistence than assemblages of species without FP. Furthermore, we found evidence of implementing forest management practices favoring the preservation of species with FP in agricultural lands. Thus, we conclude that people intentionally foster the persistence of valuable species in their agricultural fields, which could have important implications for the structure and composition of future regenerating forests on abandoned agricultural lands. In the long term, this might lead to an overabundance of locally valuable species, as observed in old-growth tropical rainforests that native people ancestrally managed.

Coastal flooding is recognized as one of the most devastating natural disasters, resulting in significant economic losses. Therefore, hazard assessment is crucial to support preparedness and response to such disasters. Toward this, flood map databases and catalogues are essential for the analysis of flood scenarios, and furthermore they can be integrated into disaster risk reduction studies. In this study and in the context of the European Coastal Flood Awareness System (ECFAS) project (GA 101004211), which aimed to propose the European Copernicus Coastal Flood Awareness System, a catalogue of flood maps was produced. The flood maps were generated from flood models developed with LISFLOOD-FP for defined coastal sectors along the entire European coastline. For each coastal sector, 15 synthetic scenarios were defined focusing on high-frequency events specific to the local area. These scenarios were constructed based on three distinct storm durations and five different total-water-level (TWL) peaks incorporating tide, mean sea level, surge and wave setup components. The flood model method was extensively validated against 12 test cases for which observed data were collated using satellite-derived flood maps and in situ flood markers. Half of the test cases represented well the flooding with hit scores higher than 80 %. The synthetic-scenario approach was assessed by comparing flood maps from real events and their closest identified scenarios, producing a good agreement and global skill scores higher than 70 %. Using the catalogue, flood scenarios across Europe were assessed, and the biggest flooding occurred in well-known low-lying areas. In addition, different sensitivities to the increase in the duration and TWL peak were noted. The storm duration impacts a few limited flood-prone areas such as the Dutch coast, for which the flooded area increases more than twice between 12 and 36 h storm scenarios. The influence of the TWL peak is more global, especially along the Mediterranean coast, for which the relative difference between a 2- and 20-year return period storm is around 80 %. Finally, at a European scale, the expansion of flood areas in relation to increases in TWL peaks demonstrated both positive and negative correlations with the presence of urban and wetland areas, respectively. This observation supports the concept of storm flood mitigation by wetlands.

The use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for 3D reconstruction through photogrammetry has gained significant attention in recent years. With the advancement of technology and the availability of affordable drones with high-resolution cameras, capturing aerial images for creating detailed 3D models has become more accessible, however, UAV survey flight planning still presents challenges. The planning stage is essential in aerial photogrammetry as it sets the foundation for efficient and accurate surveying. Proper predictive planning ensures a smooth workflow on site, generating high-quality datasets for reconstruction while minimizing the need for repeat surveys. This approach not only reduces costs but also mitigates potential errors and delays during the survey process.Within the presented frame of reference, the present study explores the use of UAVs for 3D reconstruction through photogrammetry, focusing on optimizing flight paths and view planning. It addresses challenges such as safety, navigation, and image dataset optimization. The study presents the current advancement of custom parametric workflow developed in Rhino/Grasshopper. The workflow is targeted for average users, aiming to simplify the process and integrate it with architectural and planning workflows. The approach involves four algorithms, including proxy model generation, visibility analysis, path generation, and camera position estimation. The iterative process enhances precision through progressive refinement of the proxy model, offering potential for predictive modelling and effective photogrammetry utilization in UAV planning. Objective: To describe the process of translation into Brazilian Portuguese and cross-cultural adaptation of the French Reflux Symptom Score-12 questionnaire used for the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux. Methods: This was a cross-cultural translation and adaptation study of a health instrument, with a cross-sectional design. It was carried out in eight stages: translation from French into Brazilian Portuguese, cultural adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the first version (pilot test 1), adaptation by a panel of experts, application of the second version (pilot test 2), back translation, reviewing by a committee in conjunction with the author of the original instrument and, application of the final version. The Brazilian Portuguese versions of the questionnaire were applied to individuals with symptoms and signs of laryngopharyngeal reflux who underwent pHmetry and esophageal manometry at the study site. Results: In pilot test 1, the first version of the RSS-12 in Brazilian Portuguese was applied to 30 patients. The patients had no difficulty to understand any of the 12 symptom items, but 15 patients (50%) had difficulty interpreting the symptom frequency score. After adapting the format of the frequency score, a version 2 of the RSS-12 in Brazilian Portuguese was applied to another 23 patients, who completed the questionnaire in full without any difficulty. Along with the review committee, the author of the original RSS-12 considered the version 2 to be adequate and did not propose any changes, so it was approved as the final version of the Brazilian Portuguese RSS-12. Conclusion: The Brazilian Portuguese version of the instrument, called Reflux Symptom Score-12 PT-BR, shows good understanding and linguistic, conceptual and content equivalence, in relation to the original Reflux Symptom Score-12.

ABSTRACT Schwannomas commonly develop in the cervical region, 25% – 45% of cases are diagnosed in this anatomical region. Tracheal neurogenic tumors are exceedingly rare and can be misdiagnosed as invasive thyroid carcinomas or other infiltrating malignancies when present at the level of the thyroid gland. Here, we present a case of synchronous benign cervical schwannoma with tracheal invasion and papillary thyroid carcinoma in a patient who was initially hospitalized for COVID-19. The patient presented with dyspnea that was later found to be caused by tracheal extension of a cervical tumor. Surgical excision was performed, and the surgical team proceeded with segmental tracheal resection, removal of the cervical mass, and total thyroidectomy. The specimen was sent for pathological analysis, which revealed synchronous findings of a benign cervical schwannoma with tracheal invasion and papillary thyroid carcinoma. The literature on this subject, together with the present case report, suggests that neurogenic tumors should be included in the differential diagnosis of obstructing tracheal cervical masses. Surgical excision is the first-line of treatment for benign cervical schwannomas.

Resumo Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo compreender as experiências e os sentidos atribuídos pelas mulheres para se tornarem cuidadoras de idosos dependentes, à luz da análise da socialização de gênero. Estudo qualitativo com 53 cuidadoras familiares, realizado de junho a setembro de 2019, nas cidades de Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Araranguá, Manaus, Fortaleza e Teresina. A análise das informações guiou-se pelo referencial teórico-metodológico da hermenêutica-dialética. Os achados foram organizados em quatro categorias: a função cuidadora como algo “natural” da mulher; homens ausentes no ato de cuidar e a manutenção da masculinidade; a responsabilidade marital de esposas e a identidade de gênero para o cuidar; a economia e o cisheteropatriarcado como norteadores para assumir o cuidado. As mulheres exercem o cuidado em decorrência da socialização de gênero. Esse fato é potencializado pelas circunstâncias de estarem solteiras, residirem com a pessoa idosa, ausência masculina na partilha do cuidado, responsabilidade marital e pressão para se retirarem do mercado de trabalho. Em conclusão, o modelo de cuidado centrado na família é sustentado pelas mulheres devido as dinâmicas sociais construídas em uma sociedade capitalista e centrada no cisheteropatriarcado. Isto sinaliza para a necessidade de a sociedade intervir, refletir e propor ações para um cuidado equilibrado entre homens e mulheres.

Maize is a versatile crop, which allows from the production of whole plant silage to the harvest of grain maize, but it is necessary to verify the genotypes with these potentials according to the region of cultivation. Thus, the objective of this work was to identify the aptitude of maize for biomass for silage and grain in two years of second season cultivation in Dourados-MS. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Western Agriculture, Dourados, MS, Brazil under field conditions in the experimental design was in randomized complete block in a 6x2 factorial scheme be six maize genotypes (BRS1010, KWS9606, BRS3046, 1P2224, 1Q2383, CAPO) and two growing years (2021 and 2022) with five replications. The agronomic traits of plant biomass for silage (plant and ear heigh, stem diameter number of leaves, green mass yield plant, leaf, steam more tassel and ear, dry matter yield in the plant and efficiency of land) and maize grain (ear diameter ear length, number of grain rows per ear, number of grains per row in ears, hundred seed weight and grain yield) were evaluated. There was an increase in the values of the traits for whole maize plant in the year 2022 compared to the year 2021. The maize genotypes indicated for biomass for silage were BRS3046, KWS9606 and 1Q2383, as for maize grain, the experimental genotypes that are under development, 1P2224 and 1Q2383, are promising options for the region.

Introdução: Os transtornos psiquiátricos são síndromes multifatoriais com elevada prevalência, fazendo parte das 5 entre as 10 principais causas de incapacidade no mundo. Nas mulheres os transtornos mais comuns são os de humor e os ansiosos. Analisando o fator de gênero, já se sabe que as mulheres possuem mais fatores de vulnerabilidade para ocorrência desses transtornos, sendo a sexualidade um desses. Objetivo: Compreender como se constituíram as experiências sexuais de mulheres com transtornos psiquiátricos graves internadas no Instituto de Psiquiatria de Santa Catarina. Método: Estudo com abordagem qualitativa cuja coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com 22 mulheres hospitalizadas no ano de 2021. As narrativas foram interpretadas por meio da Análise de Conteúdo do tipo temática com base na hermenêutica dialética, cujo foco foram as determinações sociais, culturais e históricas vivenciadas pelas mulheres. Resultados: A maioria das mulheres entrevistadas era branca, heterossexual e com ensino médio completo. As experiências sexuais relatadas envolvem práticas abusivas, especialmente violência sexual na infância e/ou na vida adulta. Ainda, falta de autoestima com o corpo e a sexualidade e ausência de cuidado dos profissionais de saúde em relação à sexualidade das mulheres internadas emergiram das narrativas. A maioria das participantes se sentiu à vontade para abordar o tema durante as entrevistas, mas não falavam sobre o assunto com os profissionais. Conclusão: A sexualidade de mulheres com transtornos psiquiátricos é resultado da vulnerabilidade social vivenciada por elas ao longo da vida, devendo ser abordada como parte do cuidado integral em saúde.

ABSTRACT Laryngeal cancer ranks third among the most common head and neck neoplasms. The most common histological subtype is squamous cell carcinoma, and neuroendocrine tumors are rare. An even rarer entity is a composite tumor with both these histologies. This case reports a metastatic combined carcinoma of squamous cells and large neuroendocrine cells, presenting favorable response to treatment with a total laryngectomy followed by adjuvant therapy including chemo-, radio-, and immunotherapy.
