The composite containing nanosilver uniformly deposited on matrix composed of CaHPO4 x 2H2O (brushite, ca 89 mass %), CaHPO4 (monteonite, ca 9.5 mass%), and Ag3PO4 (0.5 mas%) was obtained by addition of calcium nitrate and silver nitrate aqueous solution at 30:1 Ca:Ag molar ratio into excess of (NH4)2PO4 solution at pH 5.0 – 5.5. The article presents the results of studies on the effects wrought on the corrosion resistance of the alloy matrix phase inter-metallic FeAl. Researches were carried out on the Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB alloy and involved the oxidation of the samples after the crystallization after plastic deformation made by extrusion. The tests were performed in an oven in air at 1100°C for 100, 300 and 500 h. Determined to change the mass of the samples after corrosion research setting kinetics of corrosion processes, as well as an analysis of the microstructure of the alloy after the crystallization and after forming. The structure was examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis with EDS chemical composition of the corrosion products. The test results revealed that plastic deformation during extrusion of intermetallic alloy led to structural changes, the effect of which was to improve the heat resistance at a temperature of 1100°C.

In this study, the structure, chemical composition and topography of oxide layers produced on the surface of the AISI 321 austenitic steel in the annealing process were analyzed. Heat treatment was done at 980°C temperature for 1 hour time in different conditions. The annealing was done in a ceramic furnace in oxidation atmosphere and in vacuum furnaces with cylindrical molybdenum and graphite chambers. The analysis was carried out using the following methods: a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX), a transmission electron microscope (TEM) equipped with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX), an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a secondary ion mass spectrometer with time-of-flight mass analyzer (TOF SIMS) and an atomic force microscope (AFM). The oxide layer formed during annealing of the AISI 321 steel at 980°C consisted of sub-layers, diversified in the chemical composition. The thickness of the oxidized layer is depended on the annealing conditions. In a ceramic furnace in oxidation atmosphere, the thickness of the oxide layer was of 300-500 nm, in a vacuum furnace with molybdenum and graphite heating chambers, it ranged from 40 to 300 nm and from a few to 50 nm, respectively. TOF SIMS method allows to get average (for the surface of 100 μm × 100 μm) depth profiles of concentration of particular elements and elements combined with oxygen. In oxide layers formed in vacuum furnaces there are no iron oxides. Titanium, apart from being bounded with carbon in carbides, is a component of the oxide layer formed on the surface of the AISI 321 steel.

Obecnie każdy wyprodukowany samochód musi być wyposażony w katalizator, w którym metale szlachetne takie jak platyna, pallad czy rod pełnią funkcje katalityczne. Czas życia katalizatorów jest ograniczony, zatem zostają one zastąpione nowymi, a stare stanowią ważne źródło platynowców. Zużyte katalizatory samochodowe przerabiane są hydrometalurgicznie lub pirometalurgicznie. Jednakże pierwszym etapem takiego przerobu powinna być analiza chemiczna. W pracy analizie na zawartość platyny poddano kilka różnych nośników katalitycznych pochodzących z różnych samochodów. Do tego celu posłużył elektronowy mikroskop skaningowy. Przedstawiono strukturę analizowanych nośników katalitycznych, ich analizę chemiczną jak również wykresy EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrum). Przeprowadzono dyskusję wyników i możliwych metod odzysku platyny.

Samochodowe konwertory katalityczne mają ograniczony czas życia, po czym katalizator ten należy wymienić lub poddać regeneracji. Zużyte katalizatory zawierają niewielkie ilości metali szlachetnych, a możliwość odzysku tych metali jest istotna ze względów ekonomicznych i ekologicznych. Równie atrakcyjne źródło metali szlachetnych stanowi wycofany sprzęt elektroniczny. Metale szlachetne w płytkach elektronicznych są zlokalizowane głównie w obwodach drukowanych układów scalonych, które są najbardziej zróżnicowane pod względem składu. Niejednorodność materiałowa tych elementów powoduje, że nie ma uniwersalnego sposobu przetwarzania tego rodzaju złomu. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na metody pirometalurgiczne i hydrometalurgiczne stosowane na świecie do odzysku metali szlachetnych ze zużytych katalizatorów samochodowych oraz od- padów elektronicznych. Przedstawiono wyniki badań próby wspólnego przetopu odpadów elektronicznych z odpadami zużytych katalizatorów samochodowych. Odpady elektroniczne w postaci drukowanych płytek obwodowych zostały wykorzystane jako nośnik i główne źródło miedzi, metalu pełniącego rolę metalu zbieracza platynowców, obecnych w katalizatorach. Otrzymano stop Cu-Fe-Au-Pt odzyskując w ten sposób platynę na poziomie około 78%.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań mających na celu porównanie odporności korozyjnej stopów na osnowie fazy międzymetalicznej Fe40A15CrTiB po krystalizacji i po przeróbce plastycznej ze stalą odporną na korozję gatunku X 12CrCoNi2120. Badania wykonano dla stali w temperaturze 700°C oraz dla stopu Fe40A15CrTiB w temperaturze 1100°C w środowisku: 9% O2+0,2 HC1 + 0,08% SO2+ N2. Określono zmiany masy po badaniach korozyjnych, wykonano obserwacje stanu powierzchni, określono skład chemiczny i fazowy produktów korozji. Uzyskane rezultat)' badań wykazały bardzo dobrą odporność stopów Fe40A15CrTiB na korozję wysokotemperaturową w środowisku zawierającym tlen, siarkę i chlor w porównaniu do odporności korozyjnej stali gatunku X12CrCoNi2120. Wyniki badań prowadzonych w tym zakresie stanowią podstawę do dalszych prac badawczych.

β-Ga2O3 nanocrystals have been successfully obtained by the high-energy ball milling method. The obtained nanocrystalline powders have been characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and luminescent spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction patterns show a single gallium oxide structure formed in the milling process with a small amount of α-Ga2O3 phase. The grains of irregular shape were identified with the TEM technique. HRTEM images confirmed the formation of the β-Ga2O3 nanocrystals with a size distribution of 50–80 nm. Three luminescence bands peaked at about 2.52, 2.91, and 3.26 eV were observed in photoluminescence spectra. The gradual blue shift of the emission maxima at the excitation in the fundamental absorption edge under the different milling conditions was detected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Effect of Ga addition on the structure of vitreous As2Se3 is studied using high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine structure techniques. The "8-N" rule is shown to be violated for Ga atoms and, possibly, for certain number of As atoms. On the contrary, Se keeps its 2-fold coordination according to "8-N" rule in the amorphous phase throughout all the compositions. Crystalline inclusions appear in the amorphous structure of the investigated glasses at Ga concentrations greater than 3 at. %. These inclusions are presumably associated with Ga2Se3 crystallites and transition phases/defects formed at the boundaries of these crystallites and host amorphous matrix. The existence of Ga-As and Se-Se bonds in the samples with higher Ga content is supported by present studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present an experimental investigation of the temperature dependence of the TO-phonon mode frequencies for the HgTe-based II-VI semiconductor solid solutions. In the case of the ternary Hg0.9Zn0.1Te solid solution was shown a discontinuity in the temperature dependence of the HgTelike T0-mode and of the ZnTe-like T1-mode, similar to the Hg0.85Cd0.15Te system [Sheregii et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 045504 (2009)]. A generalization of the theoretical temperature shift of the phonon mode frequency as analytic equation is derived that includes both the anharmonic contribution and the electron-phonon e-p interaction which in this case is returnable--the electron subsystem effect on the phonon one. Data show that our equation satisfactorily describes the temperature shift of both Hg0.85Cd0.15Te and Hg0.90Zn0.10Te containing Dirac point (Eg ≡ Γ6 - Γ8=0) although one of the two constants describing the anharmonic shift of the HgTe-like mode should be positive what is abnormal too. In the case of the Hg0.80Cd0.20Te and Hg0.763Zn0.237Te solid solution, the role of the returnable e-p contribution is negligible but a positive temperature shift for the HgTelike modes occurs. This result does not allow to explain the positive temperature shift of these modes merely by the contribution of the (e-p) interaction. Indeed, the relativistic contribution to the chemical bonds induces an abnormal temperature shift of the electron states in Hg-based semiconductors - the effect is expected since the Hg d spin-orbit split contribution to chemical bonds may lead to an abnormal temperature shift of the HgTe-like modes. Ancient man‐made glass artefacts provide vital information about the physical and chemical processes occurring over the long‐term period of weathering conditions. Despite the obvious complications associated with purity, non‐optimal conditions of synthesis and unknown thermal prehistory, the studies are important in the context of surface chemical degradation and structural relaxation theories. The soda‐lime‐silica glass from the sixth‐century bce period of Eastern Europe are studied in this paper by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and electron microscopy techniques. The dense, amorphous, about 43 μm‐thick SiO2 layer was detected on the surface of all artefacts; it formed a sharp boundary with the rest of the bulk. Thermal studies show that the ancient soda‐lime‐silica glass did not lose much enthalpy during about 2600 years of natural storage. The results suggest important modifications to a general glass corrosion theory and favour the existence of a terminal temperature for glass relaxation, below which the enthalpy of a macrosystem remains stable. Although the applied methods are rarely used in archaeology, the developed approach allows the value of recovered glass artefacts to be expanded beyond just their cultural or historical significance. This work presents far-infrared reflectivity spectra collected with synchrotron radiation on specially prepared CdTe monocrystals in the temperature region of 30–300 K. The investigated samples were of three different types characterized by the three different levels of hydrogenation—strong, middle, and low ones. In order to interpret the experimental data, the imaginary part of the dielectric function was evaluated by means of Kramers-Kronig transformation. To determine quantitatively the influence of hydrogen atoms on the phonon and vibrational spectra of hydrogenated CdTe crystals we used the special statistical model proposed in this paper. This model takes into account the tetrahedron as the basic structural unit and distinguishes the contribution of the hydrogen-bearing tetrahedra from the contribution of the hydrogen-free ones to the crystal phonon spectra.
