This study assessed the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of low-dose dexmedetomidine after IV bolus in dogs. Six healthy adult dogs (6.8 ± 3.0 kg) received dexmedetomidine (2 μg.kg -1 IV) over 2 min, using an infusion pump. Blood samples were collected totaling 5 h of monitoring. A validated UHPLC-MS/MS method was used to determine the plasma concentration of dexemedetomidine. For pharmacodynamics, HR, RR, oscillometric MBP, Grint END sedation score were evaluated at baseline (T0), every 3 min (T3 to T21), and after 30 (T30) and 60 (T60) minutes, with p < 0.05. T 1/2 was 28.28 ± 6.14 min; the area under the curve was 467.44 ± 60.42 ng/mL/min. The total clearance was 5.46 ± 0.41 mL/min/kg, the Vdss was 146.19 ± 21.04 mL/kg, and the C max was 3.13 ± 1.15 ng/mL. HR (bpm) decreased significantly from T6 (79 ± 21) to T21 (78 ± 31) compared to T0 (116 ± 28). RR(mpm) decreased from T3 (43 ± 44) to T60 (41 ± 23), with T0 being 70 ± 48. The MBP (mmHg) increased at T18 (151 ± 34), T21 (152 ± 35), and T30 (140 ± 27), compared to T0 (111 ± 22). Sedation occurred at all times post-bolus, with a maximum peak at T12 (END 8 ± 6). The low dose of dexmedetomidine provided sedation in all animals, characterizing rapid metabolization and elimination. Numerous activities in food services can affect worker health and safety, given that daily food preparation routines involve the use of sharp instruments, steam, hot liquids, noise, frozen items, harsh cleaning chemicals, and heavy lifting. The objective of this study was to identify relationships among work activities that affect health and safety among food service workers. The methodology consisted of an integrative review of documentary and bibliographic research, using National Classification of Economic Activities as a data collection criterion and Ministry of Labor and Employment data on work accidents in food services between 2010 and 2020. Work accidents, which may or may not be accompanied by a work accident report, are classified according to type: at work, commuting to work, or occupational illness. During the study period, 169,609 work accidents occurred among food industry workers, which was 12% of the total number of work accidents recorded nationwide in all sectors. The most frequent accident types among food service workers were cuts, burns, falls, and those due to incorrect posture. Training, best practices, professional ethics, functional planning, and periodic and preventive maintenance are important strategies for providing the best working conditions in food services., Competing Interests: Conflicts of interest: None

This study aimed to monitor the effects of dipyrone following multiple administrations in northeastern donkeys. Ten castrated male donkeys, aged 6.4 ± 3 years and weighing 130.6 ± 9.8 kg, were administered dipyrone (25 mg/kg IV) every 12 h, resulting in six administrations (D1 to D6) per animal. Blood samples were collected over a 72 h monitoring period. A validated UHPLC-MS/MS method was employed to determine the plasma concentrations of the 4- methylaminoantipyrine (4-MAA) and 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA). The calculated pharmacokinetic variables of 4-MAA after D1 and D6 were, respectively: Cmax (μg/mL) = 163.60 ± 179.72 and 178.79 ± 196.94; T1/2beta (h) = 2.65 ± 0.65 and 3.37 ± 1.03; and AUC0-t (μg/mL × h) = 240.38 ± 130.87 and 373.52 ± 78.85. The same variables for 4-AA were: Cmax, (μg/mL) = 0.44 ± 0.27 and 0.90 ± 0.31, T1/2beta (h) = 14.77 ± 13.13 and 35.97 and AUC0-t (μg/mL × h) = 3.20 ± 0.43 and 27.73 ± 11.99. Concentrations of 4-MAA exceeded the minimum concentration required for 50% inhibition of cyclooxygenases 1 and 2. However, an accumulation of 4-AA, was observed. Anaplastic large cell lymphoma associated with breast implants is a relatively new disease that deserves attention from the academic community. Brazil figures as one of the protagonists in plastic surgery, however publications are insufficient and very few cases are reported in comparison to other countries. It is a disease with excellent prognosis when diagnosed early and treated effectively, but for this to happen, it is essential that health care professionals and the patient understand its pathology. We reported two cases in a small town during a short period of time. In both cases reported by this study, the patients presented late seroma, associated with pain as a clinical presentation, at 13 and 9 years after the placement of silicone implants with textured polyurethane surfaces. After the procedure, the patients were screened for cancer. Seasonality effects on the mineral profile of goats were evaluated. Fifty males were divided into two groups, one with mineral supplementation and one control. Seasonal evaluation was conducted during four periods: beginning, middle, and end of the dry period and middle of the rainy period. Rib and liver biopsies were performed, and blood was collected at each period to evaluate mineral accumulation. Ca, P, Cu, Fe, Mo, Zn, and Co concentrations were determined using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry after acid digestion. Normal Ca, P, and Mo; low Cu, Zn, and Co; and high Fe levels were observed in the diet. The young animals analyzed showed normal serum and bone Ca and P concentrations, suggesting no need for supplementation throughout the entire year under the conditions of this study. Iron showed high values throughout the year, being potentially dangerous especially owing to its antagonistic relationship with other elements. Cu and Zn deficiency in the diet was observed under the conditions of this study, requiring supplementation with values higher than those contained in the mineral supplement used in the middle and end of the dry period. The supply of specific mineral supplement formulated for animals farmed in the semiarid region is suggested and would reduce costs.

Sarcomas are rare lesions of the liver and represent <1% of primary liver tumors. Embryonic sarcoma (undifferentiated) of the liver is a rare and aggressive malignant tumor that usually occurs in children with a peak incidence between 6 and 10 years. In adults, it is extremely rare with only 13 cases described in patients older than 40 years and 68 cases reported in patients older than 15 years. There is a slight predominance of females in adults. With an emphasis on morphological and immunohistochemical features, as well as on clinical data and imaging studies, we present this case report, in addition to extensive literature review on the topic., Competing Interests: None

Background: Lynch syndrome (LS) diagnosis is underestimated, and most of the patients remain undetected after colorectal resections. The study aims to assess the frequency of LS in patients undergoing surgical treatment for colorectal cancer (CRC)., Methods: A total of 458 CRC patients were operated from January 2005 to December 2008. Positive CRC family history (FH) was present in 118 (25.8%) patients. Histologic sections were reviewed for microsatellite instability (MSI) criteria (Bethesda guidelines), immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis for MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2 proteins, through the avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex, MSI (BAT-25, BAT-26, NR-21, NR-24 and MONO-27) and BRAF somatic mutation., Results: Of the 118 patients with FH, 61 (51.69%) met at least one of the revised Bethesda criteria. IHC was abnormal in 8 (13.1%) and MSI in 12 patients (20%). BRAF was negative in all cases. MSI histopathological included: intratumoral lymphocytes (47.5%), expansive tumors (29.5%) mucinous component (27.8%) and Crohn's like reaction in (14.7%). There was an association between the revised Bethesda criteria with: sex, mucinous histology and Crohn's like reaction; MSI and IHC with PMS2 and MLH1. Revised Bethesda criteria 4 had 10.6 increased chances to display positive MSI. We have proposed a score to contribute as a practical tool in the diagnosis of LS., Conclusions: The frequence of LS in resected CRC patients was 2.6%. The criterion 4 Revised Bethesda was associated more strongly with the presence of MSI.

Simulium (Chirostilbia) vitribasi n. sp. from the Mantiqueira mountain range, in São Paulo and Minas Gerais states, southeastern Brazil, is described and illustrated based on male, female, pupal and larval morphologies. The pupae of the new species is similar to the one of Simulium pertinax Kollar, one of the most voracious black fly species in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil and a target of control programs in these regions. But the pupa of the new species has a large basal fenestra in the gills that distinguishes it from all other S. (Chirostilibia) species. The other life stages of the new species also have morphological characters that distinguish it from the other species in the subgenus: male has scutum black, with patches of thick, golden hairs; female has scutum similar to that of the male, without banding or other markers, abdominal tergites I and II whitish and sternite VIII dark, heavily sclerotized; anal lobe almost as wide as long, with thin, long hairs on its outer margin; larva body cuticle has wide scale-like setae, with lobulated distal margins. Unlabelled: The transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) have been widely used in neonatal hearing screening., Objective: To compare the TEOAEs in newborns at term and preterm vis-à-vis the following variables: ear side, gender, frequency spectrum and gestational age., Method: By means of a cross-sectional cohort of 66 newborns up to the 28th day of life (41 newborns at term and 25 premature babies), we recorded TEOAEs. All the individuals did not have risk indicators for hearing loss., Results: There was a signal/noise ratio improvement with frequency increase. No differences were observed between genders and between the ears, but there were differences among the children born at term and preterm in the frequency bands at 3 kHz and 4 kHz., Conclusion: The TEOAEs test is important for assessing the peripheral auditory system of newborns at term and preterm, making it possible to have responses regardless of gender and gestational age.

Pressure ulcer is a lesion that affects skin layers in some regions of the body and its healing can be followed up using image processing. The analysis of pressure ulcer area is relevant to evaluate its evolution and response to therapeutic procedures. Such areas can be evaluated through contour marking with the softwares Motic and AutoCAD®. In this study 35 volunteers computed areas from two grade III pressure ulcers using these instruments. It was possible to conclude that results are clinically equivalent and so can be considered to follow up healing evolution from pressure ulcers.

The aim of the study was to establish the extended high frequency thresholds (EHF) of school-age children with no hearing complaints. The study was conducted on 50 children aged 8 to 12 years with pure tone thresholds (0.5, 1 and 2 kHz) of 15 dB HL or less, with normal speech discrimination and tympanometry and with the presence of contralateral acoustic reflexes of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 kHz. The children were tested for EHF at frequencies of 9, 10, 11.2, 12.5, 14 and 16 kHz. No significant differences were found between the right and left ear for female and male groups. The results allowed us to group the children into a single sample with mean thresholds (dB) of 8.6 (9 kHz), 6.2 (10 kHz), 8.2 (11.2 kHz), 7.1 (12.5 kHz), 0.4 (14 kHz), and -3.6 (16 kHz). We conclude that, for school-age children, the extended EHF below 15 dBHL could be used as an indication of normal hearing sensitivity.

Objective: To evaluate glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the parametrium, paraurethral tissue and vaginal apex in postmenopausal women with uterine prolapse and to evaluate the effect of 30-day estrogen therapy in these patients., Material and Methods: Double-blind trial of estrogen and placebo in 40 women with a control group of 20 premenopausal women without uterine prolapse. Twenty postmenopausal women with prolapse formed a second group and were treated with placebo for 30 days before vaginal hysterectomy. The third group included 20 postmenopausal women with prolapse who received 0.625 mg oral conjugated estrogens for 30 days before vaginal hysterectomy. Samples of the parametrium, vaginal apex and paraurethral tissue were obtained during surgery., Results: Hyaluronic acid was the predominant GAG detected, followed by dermatan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate and heparan sulfate. In postmenopausal women with prolapse, we did not observe significant differences in total GAGs compared to the control group. However, hyaluronic acid was increased in the parametrium of women receiving estrogen compared to those treated with the placebo (2033.39 ± 3037.90 mg/g vs. 587.87 ± 697.89 mg/g, respectively; p = 0.041)., Conclusions: There are differences in GAGs in the parametrium, paraurethral tissue and vaginal apex between women in premenopause and those in the postmenopause period. Therefore, 30-day estrogen therapy produces significant differences in levels of hyaluronic acid, dermatan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate.

This article analyzes the performance of the professionals who accompany HIV/aids carrier in the direction to identify which its behavior is face the communication or not of the seropositivity of the patient to its sexual partner in a public service of reference in HIV/aids of the city of Fortaleza, Ceará State. The study is of exploratory character with qualitative boarding. The participants of the study were the health professionals of the institution that was accompanying HIV/aids carrier. The collection of the data was made through a half-structuralized interview. The discussions of the data had been made through the Analysis of Content, being possible to identify that the professionals live deeply personal and institutional difficulties, and that they do not feel supported by the institution in relation to the convocation of partners. In this direction, the creation of a protocol for the convocation of the sexual partners becomes necessary.
