Poland, still considered by some to be a bastion of Catholicism in Europe, is becoming more secularised every year, and its society resembles the postmodern societies of Western Europe. The changes in religiousness, which affect especially the younger Poles, are so strong that they call into question the validity of the current form of religious education, i.e. school catechesis, which is proving incapable of fulfilling its tasks, e.g. in the function of Christian initiation. Given the above context, the present article has a threefold purpose: The first step is to present the social and educational challenges of school catechesis in Polish schools. Based on these premises, the second step will outline the main similarities and differences in religious education between Poland and Germany, and then the German ‘Carousel of Concepts’ (H. Mendl) of the 1960s, which contributed to the emergence of a possible optimal model of religious education for a postmodern society. In the third and final step, ideas for the future will be formulated for the renewal of religious education in Poland, making it possible to characterise it in a guiding way as a dialogical-educational concept. Black men and boys have been constructed as libidinous threats to white womanhood and white racial purity since the sixteenth century. In the wake of the landmark Brown decision, white citizens fused the Black male rapist trope with segregation theology to create private segregation academies to minimize Black-white contact. These schools remain more segregated than traditional public schools. The participants in this study were recruited to a private Catholic high school where the entire Black population was made up of Black boys who played a sport and whose interracial relationships with white girls triggered resistance. Drawing from qualitative data, the purpose of this paper is to highlight five Black boys' experiences with phallic-based Negrophobia in a predominantly white and private Catholic high school. Findings reveal that participants realized they were transgressing institutional boundaries to preserve a racial order, and their transgressions were constantly policed and monitored. It is sometimes claimed that litotes, the rhetorical trope in which the negation of the contrary is asserted, is largely limited in the New Testament to the Acts of the Apostles, and Paul does not commonly use it. But in fact Paul does use it and with greater sophistication and complexity than Luke. This article reviews the ancient rhetorical handbooks and scholia with respect to litotes, surveys its various functions, and then demonstrates that Paul uses it frequently and deftly as a rhetorical technique of restraint to enhance his credibility. Given recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions, specifically Carson v. Makin, which permit public funding for religious schools, we examine how Catholic diocese and school leaders interpret these legal shifts for Catholic education. We utilize the Catholic education sector in New York City as a case study to examine how Catholic school leaders interpret local, state, and national policy shifts in funding for Catholic education. Specifically, we examine how Catholic school leaders currently navigate public–private partnerships and how they think Makin will affect future funding of Catholic education in New York City. We find that Catholic school leaders are already participating in limited public–private partnerships and are enthusiastic about potential policy windows for opportunities such as tax-credits and religious charter schools. However, Catholic school leaders in New York face challenges in terms of state politics, Catholic identity of schools, and other school-choice advocates including public charter schools. Researchers have studied Catholic schools for decades, often in an attempt to extrapolate from them lessons that may help public schools accomplish similar levels of academic achievement and other desirable goals, such as social mobility, social efficiency, and democratic equality. But research that attempts to understand Catholic education from a secular perspective inevitably misunderstands the purpose of education that Catholic schools themselves claim to pursue, i.e., beatitude. This unique purpose is the source of Catholic school identity. Here, Christopher Hurst argues that by considering Catholic education as the practice of a distinctly Catholic tradition, researchers can authentically assess how well Catholic schools are achieving their own stated goals, and whether their practices can be applied outside of a particular Catholic context. We examined the associations between sense of community (SoC) and multidimensional academic engagement, including whether meaning in life and subjective well-being mediate the relationships. Participants were Nigerian students who completed the Classroom Sense of Community Inventory-School Form (csci-sf), Meaning in Life Questionnaire's (mlq) Presence subscale, Brief Adolescent Subjective Well-being in School Scale (baswss), and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale - Student Version (uwes-s-9). Data was analysed using Model 6 of Hayes' regression-based PROCESS module. Results showed that both presence of meaning and subjective well-being mediated the effects of aspects of SoC on vigour, dedication and overall academic engagement. The effects of SoC on absorption was only mediated by subjective wellbeing. Mediation pathways were not significant for the effects of learning SoC on absorption. In all cases, the strongest mediation existed in the paths linking social SoC to academic engagement through subjective wellbeing. Historically, Australian higher education has been statist, uniform, and secular. Indeed, up until 1989, even communist Poland had more Christian universities than Australia. Only in the last 3½ decades have eight different Christian universities and colleges emerged. This article first explores the origins of these new institutions and the historical factors that allowed for the emergence of Australian Christian higher education (CHE). It then employs the recently developed Operationalizing Christian Identity Guide (OCIG) to determine the extent to which these new Australian institutions use their Christian identity to guide administrative decisions. The OCIG identifies the number of publicly expressed markers that indicate whether and how Christian identity makes a difference in key administrative decisions regarding the life of the institution. These markers include things such as membership requirements for the board, president, faculty, and students; the institution's official rhetoric and mission; the number of required Christian courses; and the nature of co-curricular programming. An analysis of these institutions using the OCIG reveals that Australia's Christian institutions are observably distinct from their secular Australian counterparts in key areas such as mission, hiring practices, curricular requirements, co-curricular opportunities, and student conduct codes. All of these Christian institutions require core courses that extend beyond professional education. Within the Christian sector, significant diversity also exists regarding religious symbols, funding, and governance. A comparison of these Australian institutions to Christian institutions in the United States and Canada, however, finds that Australian institutions operationalize their Christian identities less than institutions in these countries. For over 50 years, a group of Christians has cultivated a movement to revitalize Christian education at secular universities. These leaders formed centers for Christian thought (CCT) to reengage the Christian faith with the intellectual life (and vice-versa) and work with students, staff, and faculty within American universities. At present, there are at least 41 CCT in the USA, but little empirical work has been done to explore this type of Christian education. In this paper, we used a collective case study of five established CCT to answer the following research question: What are the distinctive features of Christian study centers and institutes for Catholic thought, and what is the nature of Christian education they offer? Each center we studied exhibited characteristics unique to its institutional context and yet shared some key educational elements with other centers. In sum, CCT used hospitality and intellectual fellowship to engage the riches of the Christian intellectual tradition to satiate the human appetite to live an integrated life. The center staff believed that living the integrated life would strengthen the global church and thereby benefit the university and society. Although CCT are distinct from Christian colleges and universities, opportunities exist for mutual learning between them that could help perpetuate the Christian intellectual tradition. For example, CCT could benefit from the faith integration conversations happening on Christian campuses, who could, in turn, learn from the holistic approaches of CCT and benefit from hiring faculty who were involved with a center as graduate students. The prevailing current context of neoliberalism has often been viewed as curtailing the prophetic expression of the Catholic identity of Catholic educational institutions (CEIs). This article proposes that only by reclaiming their prophetic identity can CEIs flourish authentically in the neoliberal era. A faith-based approach to addressing the challenges of neoliberalism is presented, drawing upon the principles of prophetic imagination described by Brueggemann. Joseph of Nazareth has a high profile among Catholics globally. His name adorns a multitude of schools, Catholic agencies, cities and towns and he is the patron of numerous causes in the Catholic tradition. This elevated position contrasts markedly with his profile in the Bible, where he is consistently silent when he appears in the narratives, and conspicuously absent in most New Testament accounts. In recent decades, reflections on Joseph's place in the stories of Christian foundations and traditions about him have relied upon a careful reading of the historical Joseph. Pious traditions that emphasised his supplementary, supportive, and subordinate role in the Christian tradition are giving way to thoughtful examinations of the available evidence. Portraits of Joseph offer resources for contributing to the identity of Catholic schools and other agencies which count Joseph as a patron and mentor. This article traces contemporary scholarship on the biblical, historical, and modern conceptualisations of Joseph of Nazareth and explores implications for Catholic identity and religious education in Catholic schools. Catholic schools, in order to be Catholic, lay claim to a particular sense of what these schools are and what they are not; that is, they claim Catholic school identity. Organizations such as Catholic schools have a strong identity if these claims are central to their core mission, distinct from the claims of other organizations, and consistent over time. The distinctiveness of Catholic school identity implies that Catholic educational practice must be rooted in a particularly Catholic tradition, and the centrality of Catholic school identity implies that excellent Catholic schools can derive internal goods only available to these schools. But claims to a distinct identity are undercut by the pursuit of external goods such as wealth, power, and prestige, as these external goods are neither central to the mission of any school, nor do they distinguish Catholic schools from other forms of school. In particular, Catholic school principals must balance their schools' need for legitimacy with their desire to claim a strong Catholic identity. This paper provides a framework for understanding the internal goods that comprise Catholic school identity, the external goods these schools need to survive, and the process of judgment principals must use to maintain Catholic school identity. While the emergence of sex education in the early 20th century is well studied, religious reactions to it remained under-studied. The paper addresses this gap by analysing the emergence of Roman Catholic sex education in the German-speaking area from the turn of the century to the 1930s. It explores official doctrinal guidelines, inner-Catholic debates, and the growing body of Catholic sex education publications. The paper argues that for the Roman Catholic Church, sex education was not a mere pedagogical problem but a topic that raised overarching questions such as how to deal with modern natural sciences, female emancipation, or the secular school system. The findings suggest that lay people and clergy working in pastoral care were the driving force for the modernisation of the discourse vis-à-vis a more conservative church authority. Anchored in the Ignatian ethos of spirituality and education, Jesuit education initially emerged as a vehicle for spiritual development within the Catholic sphere. In Ireland, from the early 19th century onwards, it was strategically aligned with British colonial interests, fostering a unique form of colonial Catholicism. This article examines how Jesuit education served the domestic elite during British rule, employing education strategically to bolster Catholic interests in the 19th century. It focuses on how institutions like Tullabeg and Clongowes became instrumental in merging Catholic education with colonial aims, purportedly under a divine mandate. This scrutiny reveals that the colonial drive towards a Westernized, secular approach in religion and education unexpectedly strengthened religious identities and their political sway, countering the prevalent assumption that modernization equates to secularization. The analysis of the roles played by these premier boarding schools in cultivating colonial Catholicism demonstrates that Jesuit education in Ireland was significant in reshaping the dynamics of religion, education, and politics. This case study highlights the complex outcomes of colonial religious and educational strategies, highlighting the persistent impact of colonialism on Ireland's religious character and societal conversation. The purpose of this paper is to provide curriculum support to religious educators working in Catholic schools. The paper provides a practical response to research advocating serious attention be given to religious educators because they are at the "coalface" of Catholic education, increasingly confronted by content and policy decisions, the diverse values and needs of their students, and other competing cultural and social challenges. Religious educators play a significant role in the evangelising mission of the Catholic Church as interpreters of Scripture and Tradition and can positively or negatively influence the quality of their students' learning and its application. Entitled RECALL, the support offered to religious educators in this paper is research-led and utilises educational, standards-based principles. It is a community-minded approach that aims to build religious literacy and deepen the religious educators' awareness and connections to the legacy of the Catholic Faith Tradition. The desired outcome is to inspire evidence-based conversations encompassing faith and reason, the perceived value and reality of the identity and mission of the Catholic Church, and its impact on Catholic culture and education. Intended to enhance rather than replace existing professional formation, the approach has structures, pedagogical processes, and practices that draw from a set of overarching theoretical considerations. Furthermore, the approach employs three guiding questions for categorising and analysing Catholic content. The questions are: (i) "Who are we as Catholics and what is our mission?" (ii) "What do we believe?" and (iii) "How do we practice?" The proposed curriculum support to religious educators may foster a culture of learning in Religious Education that is focused on improving and progressing the quality of educational outcomes for students. In this article I examine productions of Roman comedy in Latin at the end of the 19th century by several Jesuit schools in the United States. I show that they used these plays to demonstrate the high quality of Catholic education, to gain public support and private patronage, and to defend themselves within the hostile landscape of largely-Protestant U.S. education in this period. I also argue that these Jesuit schools saw Roman comedy as a way to link themselves not only to ancient culture, but also to traditions that once formed the core of the Society of Jesus's educational model. Values of the religious axiology of Catholicism and doctrines of Peronism permeated and mobilized the political action of vast sectors of women and men militants during the first presidencies of Juan Domingo Perón and Domingo Alfredo Mercante's governorship of the province of Buenos Aires. The tensions between Peronism and the catholic Church, existing from times before the break of the 1954 relationship, imposed definitions in personalities identified with both axiologies, about the priority of one or the other. By 1949 the catholic Church was consolidating its aspiration to make catholic education compulsory in the nation's public schools and in the constitutions of several provinces. In the province of Buenos Aires, the minister of Education (1949-1952) Julio César Avanza crowned the achievement of Catholicism. The object of analysis of this article is the recognition of the values that informed the discursive structure of Avanza from its beginnings in political militancy in 1944 until his death in 1958. The analytical question refers to how the ideological values of two axiological frameworks -- which initially shared affinities culminated in confrontation-- have interacted in the definitions of the acts of government of a political person. Catholic education faces a number of serious challenges including cultural and political disrespect for, and hostility towards religion in general and Catholicism in particular, and lack of knowledge of, and commitment to, Catholic beliefs and values among Catholic educational administrators, school managers, teachers, and other staff, as well as the diminishing percentage of even nominally Catholic staff. I set these matters within the context of broader challenges surrounding Catholic education, deriving from three cultural movements: the reformation, the emergence of liberalism, and the scientific revolution, which undermined the synthesis of scripture, theology, and speculative and practical philosophy achieved in the high middle-ages. I propose in response a creative critique showing that what is of authentic value in modernity can be accommodated within the traditional synthesis. I also connect that tradition with strands of eastern philosophy suggesting that the movement of people, ideas, and traditions from Eastern cultures into historically Western societies provides an opportunity for further synthesis of a wisdom-based approach to education. This paper seeks to deepen the understanding of religious plurality using a range of conceptual lenses and then to draw out some implications for a dialogical approach to religious education in Catholic schools. While what was, until very recent times, seen as conventional religious affiliation has certainly weakened in Australia and elsewhere, this does not necessarily lead to a multiplication of communal beliefs, practices and values. Following Smith, Inglehart and others, what has emerged is a dominant cultural hegemony which has a range of characteristics, but the most pertinent for the discussion here is the loss of the transcendent imperative and the subsequent decline in the knowledge of, and identification with, narratives associated with once-dominant religious communities. An understanding of diversity in the current cultural milieu in Australia needs to consider this hegemony as expressed in a commonality of beliefs, values and practices regardless of expressed affiliation, religious or not. Understanding diversity in this framework establishes a basis for better considering what a dialogical approach to religious education would involve. A dialogical approach to religious education is taken as a settled norm and not one that is heavily contested. A number of the implications of the proposed understanding of diversity for religious education are given. Religious education is crucial for the transmission and development of Catholicism. China does not have an organized and institutionalized system for religious education as do Western countries. However, a unique folk religious education system named shanghui (上会) emerged in the localization of Chinese Catholicism. This study explores the development of shanghui through a combination of archival research and fieldwork, using the example of a rural Catholic community in southwest Hubei. Shanghui is a strategic localization practice adopted by the Catholic Church in response to social development and cultural changes. The type of this research is qualitative-descriptive. Thirty schools located in the city of Sorong, covering primary to secondary education levels, were selected as the research locations. Approximately 35 Catholic religion teachers participated as research informants. Interview, observation, and documentation study techniques were used as methods to collect data. This research aims to examine the implementation and effectiveness of the Catholic Religious Education (PAK) learning process in schools. The researchers then attempted to explore further how schools continuously strive to improve the quality of implementing Catholic Religious Education in schools for fostering attitudes and behaviors of religious tolerance in schools. Through the Catholic Religious Education learning model, students are able to: First, adopt a critical attitude towards various issues related to racism, fanaticism, ethnicity, and repressive aspects in society. Second, conduct studies on various issues stemming from diverse perspectives of religions and other beliefs, thereby fostering awareness of cultural diversity and peace. Third, develop cooperative learning skills and decision-making skills so that students are ready to become good citizens in terms of social and democratic aspects as well as tolerant. Pope Francis's dream for a synodal Church has implications for Catholic schools globally, but what exactly are these consequences? This paper explores Francis's vision in the context of Canadian Catholic schools in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories (NWT), where these schools are fully-funded by the government and enroll nearly a quarter million students. Ten exploratory interviews with chief superintendents from these schools—which formed the basis of a larger study—were analyzed to understand potential connections to Francis's vision and his four commitments to synodality: focusing on relationships, a culture of encounter, the essentials of the Christian faith, and local decision-making. The pope differentiates synodality from democratic forms of leadership and demands a communal form of listening and discerning God's Spirit. While the superintendents' style of leadership appeared to mirror synodality in many ways, predominant issues remain to be explored: an emphasis on relationships upends the status quo and gives new directions for the schools; encountering others will inevitably demand prophetic leadership by the system leaders; leading with the essentials of faith will not please everyone in Catholic schooling; and shared authority among the superintendents, bishops, and trustees requires further dialogue. The Agenda provided by the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) represent an opportunity to eradicate poverty, preserve the planet, promote peace, and develop a more prosperous society. This global horizon is reinforced by the religious proposal of the Encyclical "Laudato si", in which Pope Francis reflects on the anthropological, social, and spiritual repercussions of the interaction of human beings with their environmental reality. With the term integral ecology, the Catholic leader proposes processes to put an end of poverty, exclusion, and environmental degradation. This research aims to explore the cornerstones and application of the SDGs and integral ecology in the framework of the Catholic university. The study brings Agenda 2030 into dialogue with the Christian ethical perspective of human development and integral ecology by showing their complementarity. It develops the inclusion of the SDGs and integral ecology objectives in the mission and strategic plan of the Catholic university. For this reason, an action plan is projected in which the values of sustainability are transversally structured in the diverse areas of the university, such as governance, teaching, research, transfer of knowledge and social impact, extracurricular activity, green procurement, infrastructure, energy, waste, water, and mobility. It is known that the fifth grade students at SDK Wolondopo 2 are less active in participating in Catholic Religious Education (PAK) lessons. Students' learning motivation is still relatively low, during the learning process there are still many students who do not pay attention to the teacher who is explaining the material, lessons tend to be teacher-centered and students are less actively involved during the learning process and student learning achievement decreases. The problem in this research is how effective the word guessing method is in PAK learning to increase the activity of class VI students at SDK Wolondopo 2. The aim is to find out the effectiveness of the word guessing method in PAK learning to increase the activity of class VI students at Wolondopo SDK 2. This research method is action research. class using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used in the research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) in which there are influences and relationships between variables. This paper aims to determine the legal position of laws that use the omnibus method in the system of laws and regulations in Indonesia. The focus of the research focused on the legal position of laws using the omnibus method in terms of the provisions of Article 97A of the Law on the Establishment of Laws and Regulations. Using the normative juridical method through literature study, this paper concludes that with the characteristics of laws that use the omnibus method based on the regulations in Article 97A of the Law on the Establishment of Laws and Regulations, these provisions result in inconsistencies in norms with the provisions of the hierarchy of laws and regulations regulated by Article 7 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2), provision number 223 Annex II Law on the Establishment of Laws and Regulations, as well as deviating the principle of legal preverence, namely the principle of lex posterior derogate legi priori. The vagueness and inconsistency in the formulation of Article 97A norms results in legal uncertainty, thus contradicting the guarantee of legal certainty as mandated by Article 28D paragraph (1) of the NRI Constitution of 1945. Thus studying physics is very important as it relates to real life. However, based on the results of a survey that has been carried out in a high school, it is known that student learning outcomes are less / low, this is due to difficulties in understanding fundamental physics concepts, limitations in solving physics problems, and lack of connections between these concepts. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze how the implementation of the application of the PBL model for the learning outcomes of dynamic fluid material students. The method applied in this study is quantitative Quasi Experiment using nonequivalent control group design. From the results of research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the PBL learning model has the potential to improve physical learning outcomes, especially in the context of Dynamic Fluid material. The implications of this research can be used as a basis to recommend the application of the Problem Based Learning model in physics learning to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the concept understanding process at the relevant educational level. Learning outcomes are the mastery and abilities that students have achieved about the material and skills regarding the subject after receiving their learning experience. Learning outcomes can be measured from their own abilities, where in the learning process in the classroom students are more active and the ability of Catholic Religious Educator teachers to apply skills to the teaching and learning process can improve student learning outcomes. In teaching and learning activities at SDK Puubheto, especially in grade III Catholic Religious Education lessons, problems were found in teaching and learning activities, namely; Students feel bored because the classroom atmosphere is not conducive, teachers do not understand the right learning methods according to the age of students and are not skilled in applying learning methods, students are not actively involved in teaching and learning activities, teachers tend to only give assignments so that students lack understanding of the material, and student learning outcomes are low. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the influence of the storytelling method on improving student learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to determine how the influence of the application of storytelling learning methods on Catholic Religious Education subjects in improving learning outcomes. In improving learning outcomes, researchers use the application of storytelling methods in Catholic Religion subjects. The storytelling method is a learning strategy where the delivery is through oral speech by telling stories or events and information that is packaged creatively to attract children's attention. The results of the study found by researchers showed that the learning outcomes of students in each cycle increased from the pre-test results with a percentage of 35.71%, the percentage of post-test cycle I of 50%, and the percentage of post-test cycle II of 100%. It can be said that there is an increase in the learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education through the application of storytelling methods in grade III of Puubheto Catholic Elementary School. Apart from the Syrian refugee mass influx of 2011, which had led the country to severe social and economic constraints, a civic uprising ignited in October 2019 against an incompetent government accused of sectarianism and corruption by the Lebanese people. Thousands of peaceful protesters from different religions and social classes assembled in cities across the country calling for social and economic reforms. Frustration and public anger have escalated in recent years over government's failure to manage the country's waste and economic crisis. Lebanon currently confronts a debt, fiscal, currency and banking crisis which inevitably impacted its educational sector. Unlike many countries where public schools are most commonly frequented, Lebanon relies on its private schools including Catholic Schools to educate two-third of students. While there is a significant body of research concerning Catholic faith formation in a variety of educational contexts around the world, relatively little attention has been devoted to the notion of missionary discipleship as a foundation for Catholic formation. Recently, the National Catholic Education Commission, in its document Leading Formation for Mission, also elaborates a solid definition of formation and stated: 'Formation is imaginative, creative and honours adult learning principles [...] It engages the 'intellect' and is nurtured by appropriate theological content and it engages the 'Spirit' and is characterised by contemplation and action for mission' (2022). This paper seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of formation for missionary discipleship by presenting an evaluation of the efficacy of In Altum, a student-focussed ministry and leadership program developed at the University of Notre Dame Australia in response to the developing magisterial teaching concerning the notion of 'missionary discipleship'. In particular, we examine participants' personal faith development, understanding of missionary discipleship on campus, preparation for future ministry, and understanding of contemporary challenges to discipleship. The study progresses in three parts: First, it provides a brief background to In Altum, including the philosophical and sociological context, as well as the key theological principles underpinning the formation offered within the program. Second, following an overview of the mixed-methodology approach taken in the study, which details both the use of qualitative and quantitative data derived from focus groups and an online survey, the paper presents the results of the study, which sought to investigate the efficacy of the program as it pertained to the following: (a) the building of (personal subjective assessment of) faith in participants; (b) the building of participants' understanding of, and confidence in, the task of evangelisation as missionary discipleship in a secularised context; (c) building a strengthened sense of community amongst the participants. In the third and final section, the reported strengths and weaknesses of the program are examined. The paper also comments on implications for the program on the culture of the university more broadly, including precepts of the program's findings that may be applied in light of the Australian Catholic Plenary Council's findings to enhance the future directions of formation programs in the Catholic University Chaplaincy, with possible application to Catholic secondary schools and parish youth groups. This study endeavours to delve into the repercussions of organizational learning on the knowledge performance of educators within the Catholic schools of Karachi, Pakistan. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design, enlisting the participation of 282 teachers, situated within the secondary schools under the jurisdiction of the Catholic Board of Education in Karachi. The data collection tool employed in this study was the Dimensions of the Learning School Questionnaire (DLSQ). To analyse the collected data, the research harnessed the statistical prowess of the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26 and Smart PLS 4. The findings of the investigation elucidate the existence of a notably positive and statistically significant relationship between individual-level learning and the knowledge performance of teachers. Similarly, this correlation extends to school-level and global-level learning, both exhibiting a significant association with knowledge performance within Catholic schools in Karachi. However, it is noteworthy that team-level learning failed to demonstrate any significant impact on the knowledge performance of these schools. Following participation in an inaugural year-end project-based learning (PBL) ‘Capstone’, teachers in a Catholic middle school were interviewed as a focus group for their reflections on the performance of learners whom they perceived to ‘struggle’ during the academic year. A thematic analysis was conducted to extract categories and themes. Findings indicate the teachers believed PBL substantially benefited the learners, although their cognitive and academic skills were perceived as barriers to successfully meeting PBL learning expectations. Nonetheless, the PBL format was considered to have enhanced the students’ participation, motivation, senses of accomplishment, and ownership of their work. Implications for implementing PBL as a means to create inclusive and appropriate learning environments for all are discussed, as well as how teachers can scaffold ‘struggling’ learners.
