Seventeen healthy volunteers (age 25– 65 years) tested 13 devices to measure these parameters and assessed their usability attributes.Results: Patients identified irritants such as chemicals, allergens, weather changes, and physical activity as triggers that were the most relevant to deteriorating asthma control. Device testing in healthy volunteers revealed variable data formats/units and quality issues, such as missing data and low signal-to-noise ratio. Based on user preference and data capture validity, a spirometer, vital sign monitor, and sleep monitor formed the iPREDICT integrated system for continuous data streaming to develop a personalized/predictive algorithm for asthma control.Conclusion: These findings emphasize the need to systematically compare devices based on several parameters, including usability and data quality, to develop integrated digital technology programs for asthma care.Keywords: asthma, devices, digital, predictive algorithm, sensors

In this paper, the improvement of the ferroelectric properties of Bi0.5(Na0.8K0.2)0.5TiO3 ceramics through the implementation of different processing conditions is studied. Ceramic powders were obtained by solid state reaction, after mechanochemical activation of the starting reagents. Thermal evolution of starting powders was analyzed by differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetry (DTA-TGA). Crystalline phases of powders, thermally treated at temperatures ranging between 550 and 800 ºC, were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The influence of the sintering temperature on the BNKT-system was characterized by Raman microspectroscopy, and impedance spectroscopy. It was found that samples sintered at 1100 ºC showed the highest density and the lowest dielectric loss values. Moreover, in these samples, secondary phases were not detected by XRD.En este trabajo se estudian las condiciones de procesamiento de sistemas Bi0.5(Na0.8K0.2)0.5TiO3 (BNKT) que permitan obtener materiales cerámicos con buenas propiedades ferroeléctricas. Los reactivos de partida fueron activados mecanoquímicamente y mediante análisis térmico diferencial y termogravimetría (ATD-ATG) se determinaron las temperaturas de descomposición, mientras que por difracción de Rayos X (DRX) se identificaron las diferentes fases cristalinas. El efecto de la temperatura de sinterización en el sistema BNKT fue caracterizado mediante microespectroscopía Raman y espectroscopía de impedancia. Se determinó que las muestras sinterizadas a 1100 ºC no presentan fases secundarias, y proporcionan los mayores valores de densidad, y las menores pérdidas dieléctricas. En estas muestras mediante DRX no se registró la presencia de fases secundarias.

In this work, CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) ceramics were prepared by solid state reaction at 900°C for 12 h and sintered at 1100°C during 3 h. The main phase detected through X-ray diffraction (XRD) was CCTO. Also, by means of Raman spectroscopy, it was observed a secondary phase rich in CuO. A dielectric constant higher than 13.000ε0 was obtained by Impedance spectroscopy measurements in the range between 25 to 106Hz. The value could be explained by the effect of dipolar and space charge polarization processes.En este trabajo se prepararon cerámicos basados en CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) por reacción en estado sólido a 900°C y posterior sinterizado a 1100°C. Mediante difracción de rayos X (DRX) se comprobó la presencia de CCTO. A través de espectroscopía Raman se observó la presencia de una fase secundaria rica en CuO. Las mediciones de espectroscopía de impedancia demostraron que este material presenta una constante dieléctrica mayor a 13.000ε0 en el intervalo comprendido entre 25 y 106 Hz. Este valor es atribuido a la presencia de mecanismos de polarización de carga espacial y dipolar.

The objective of this work was to analyze different processing condition of Na1/2K1/2NbO3 (KNN) in order to obtain a material with good properties and without secondary phases. Solid state reaction method was used and the influence of milling time, calcination temperature and time, and sintering temperature was analyzed. It was found that sintering temperatures were limited by the component decomposition. Also, it was observed that samples sintered at 1125 ºC showed the highest density and permittivity with a homogeneous structure. In general, samples calcined at higher temperatures and times showed the best properties.El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar diferentes condiciones de procesamiento del K1/2Na1/2NbO3 (KNN) que permitan obtener un material con buenas propiedades y libre de fases secundarias. Se implementó el método de activación mecanoquímica de los precursores y posterior reacción en estado sólido. Se analizaron las principales condiciones de procesamiento (tiempo de molienda, temperaturas de calcinación y sinterizado), y se determinaron las propiedades dieléctricas y microestructurales de cada sistema. Se encontró que las temperaturas máximas de calcinación estuvieron limitadas por la descomposición de los constituyentes. También se observó que las pastillas sinterizadas a 1125ºC registraron mayor densidad, mayor permitividad y una microestructura homogénea. En general, se observó que los sistemas calcinados a mayores temperaturas y por tiempos mayores tuvieron mejores propiedades.

In order to improve the dielectric behaviour of epoxi/BaTiO3, in this work the influence of micrometric aluminum metal flakes (Al), on the dielectric properties of epoxy / BaTiO3 composites was studied. Epoxy resin, Al and BaTiO3 were mixed using an ultrasonic mixer and composites were deposited onto glass substrates by dipping technique. Obtained materials presented good dielectric properties at room temperature, and relaxation process appeared due to the resin behaviour. Obtained results were compared with those reported in literature for similar systems.Con el objetivo de mejorar el comportamiento dieléctrico de los compuestos epoxi/BaTiO3, en este trabajo se estudió la influencia de partículas metálicas de aluminio (Al), con forma de escamas y tamaño micrométrico, sobre las propiedades dieléctricas de sistemas epoxi / BaTiO3. El material compuesto fue obtenido por la técnica de inmersión o “dipping”. La mezcla de los componentes fue llevado a cabo en mezclador ultrasónica y la deposición se realizó sobre sustratos de vidrio. Los materiales obtenidos presentaron buenas propiedades dieléctricas a temperatura ambiente, sin alcanzar el límite de percolación, y los fenómenos de relajación fueron generados por los dominios de la resina. Los valores obtenidos fueron comparados con los reportados en la bibliografía para sistemas similares.

Tin oxide is the compound more used in the gas sensor production, mainly to reduce gases like CO and H2. Their electrical properties are strongly dependent of its surface. For this is of great importance to synthesize nanoscale tin oxide particles to use they later in the films conformation. The synthesis of SnO2-TiO2 nanoparticles by polymeric precursor method is reported in this work. The particles were characterized by DTA/TG, FT-IR, XRD and SEM. Also, the electrical response of thick films measured under oxygen and carbon monoxide atmospheres is was analyzed.El óxido de estaño, SnO2, es el compuesto más utilizado en la fabricación de sensores de gas, principalmente para gases reductores como el CO y H2. Dado que la respuesta de estos sensores depende fuertemente de su superficie, es de gran interés desarrollar métodos de síntesis que permitan obtener nanopartículas de estos compuestos para utilizarlas posteriormente en la conformación de películas. En el presente trabajo se describe adecuadamente el método del precursor polimérico utilizado para obtener nanopartículas de SnO2-TiO2. Los polvos cerámicos obtenidos se caracterizaron mediante ATD/TG, DRX, FTIR, y MEB. Además, se analizó el comportamiento eléctrico de las películas gruesas obtenidas, cuando son expuestas a atmósferas de O2 y CO.

Tin oxide, is a compound used in many technological applications among them as gas sensor and in the production of varistors, electronic devices, electrocatalitic electrodes and fotovoltaic cells, among others. In this work the controlled precipitation method was used to synthesize tin oxide of nanometric size using tin sulfate precursor. The control of different stages of the synthesis process was carried out through the variation of the system pH registrations, potentiometric titration,; This curve contain information on the different processes that take place in the system and it can be used to guarantee the process reproducibility. Additionally we propose a mechanism to explain the nucleation of solid phase in the solution. The hydrolysis and policondensation reactions are very important for this mechanism. Precipitate washing with an ethylendiamine solution permitted eliminated of SO4 2- and it permitted to obtain the tin oxide as the principal crystalline phase at room temperature. The characteristics of the obtained ceramic powder were determined using infrared espectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).El óxido de estaño es un compuesto ampliamente utilizado en aplicaciones tecnológicas destacándose como catalizador, sensor de gas, en fabricación de varistores, dispositivos electrónicos, electrodos electrocatalíticos y celdas fotovoltaicas, entre otros. En el presente trabajo se utilizó el método de precipitación controlada (MPC) para sintetizar óxido de estaño de tamaño nanométrico, empleando como precursor sulfato de estaño. El control de las diferentes etapas del proceso de síntesis se realizó a través de los registros de variación de pH, valoración potenciométrica, del sistema. Con base a esta información y el estudio de espectroscopía infrarroja realizada en la fase sólida, a diferentes valores de pH, se propone un mecanismo de formación de las partículas donde las reacciones de hidrólisis y condensación son muy importantes. Se analizó, además, el efecto del lavado del precipitado con etilendiamina y se verificó la eliminación del anión sulfato con este proceso, obteniéndose al final óxido de estaño, SnO y SnO2, como principales fases cristalinas, a temperatura ambiente. Las características del óxido de estaño nanométrico se determinaron utilizando espectroscopía infrarroja de transmisión FTIR, difracción de rayos X (DRX), y microscopía electrónica de transmisión (MET).

In this work, the incorporation of several concentrations of the La3+ ion into the BaTiO3 lattice was studied. It was verified that low La3+ concentrations inhibits the grain growth and produces a highly densified material. However, a delay in the sintering behavior in ceramics with high doping concentrations was observed. The La3+ donor incorporation in the BaTiO3 modified the defects structure, favored titanium vacancies formation, and stabilized a pseudocubic phase. This effect influences the dielectric properties and the cubic-tetragonal transition temperature.En este trabajo se estudió la incorporación del ión La3+ en la red de BaTiO3. Se comprobó que bajas concentraciones de La3+ inhiben el crecimiento de los granos de BaTiO3 significativamente, a la vez que originan un material altamente densificado. Sin embargo, se confirmó que existe un límite de concentración de La2O3 a partir del cual se observó un retardo en el sinterizado del BaTiO3. La incorporación de La3+ como donor en el BaTiO3 modificó su estructura de defectos, favoreció la formación de vacantes de titanio y lo estabilizó en una fase pseudocúbica. Este efecto también se refleja en las propiedades dieléctricas del material y en la temperatura de transición de fases cúbica-tetragonal.

The dependence of the electrical conductivity Pd-doped SnO2 thick films in an oxygen atmosphere is studied. The conduction mechanism when the atmosphere is changed from vacuum to oxygen can be explained considering the modification of the intergranular potencial barriers. The films exposure at temperatures higher than 300°C favors the oxygen indiffusion that causes the annihilation of oxygen vacancies. The difference between thick films doped with Pd and films without additives is analyzed.En este trabajo se estudia la dependencia de la conductividad eléctrica en oxígeno de películas de SnO2 dopadas con Pd. Los cambios en la conductividad, al modificar la atmósfera de vacío a aire, pueden ser explicados si consideramos que la adsorción de oxígeno produce un incremento en el ancho y en el alto de las barreras de potencial intergranulares. La exposición de las películas a estos gases a temperaturas mayores que 300°C favorece la difusión interna del oxígeno lo que provoca la aniquilación de vacantes de oxígeno y por ende la alteración de las barreras intergranulares. Se analiza en particular la diferencia en el comportamiento eléctrico entre las películas de SnO2 dopadas y sin dopar.

ATHENA has been designed as a general purpose detector capable of delivering the full scientific scope of the Electron-Ion Collider. Careful technology choices provide fine tracking and momentum resolution, high performance electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry, hadron identification over a wide kinematic range, and near-complete hermeticity. This article describes the detector design and its expected performance in the most relevant physics channels. It includes an evaluation of detector technology choices, the technical challenges to realizing the detector and the R&D required to meet those challenges.

The aim of this work is to study the impact of two different and typical donor –dopants; Nb2O5 and La2O3, on the electrical properties of BaTiO3. Besides, the influence of Nb5+ and La3+ on the charge compensation mechanism was evaluated. On this way, it was determined that, the defect structure is not only affected by the dopant ion but also by its concentration. Amount of dopant also affects the electrical properties of BaTiO3 ceramics. In fact, for low Nb2O5 or La2O3 concentration, electronic compensation prevails, leading to a low – resistive material with an important PTCR effect. By EPR an increases in the oxygen vacancies with a low lanthanum addition was determined. This phenomenon could be associated to the lanthanum acceptor behavior. On the other hand, high dopant concentration leads to a high – resistive material showing GBBL characteristics. In this case, a high content of double – ionized barium vacancies able to trap electrons, and a thin glassy – phase film covering the BaTiO3 grains lead to a high – resistive material. This phenomenon encourages the hypothesis in which barium vacancies act as acceptor centers at the grain boundaries in BaTiO3 ceramics.En este trabajo, se estudia el impacto de la adición de Nb2O5 o La2O3 sobre las propiedades eléctricas de cerámicos basados en BaTiO3. Asimismo, se estudia la influencia de estos dos típicos dopantes en los mecanismos de compensación de cargas. En este sentido, se ha determinado que la estructura de defectos en el BaTiO3 no sólo se encuentra afectada por el tipo de dopante sino tambien por su concentración. En efecto, para bajas concentraciones de Nb2O5 o La2O3, predomina un mecanismo de compensación de cargas por generación de electrones. Sin embargo, los resultados de EPR muestran que la adición de una pequeña cantidad de La2O3 produce un notable incremento en la concentración de vacantes de oxígeno respecto del BaTiO3 sin dopar. Este fenómeno podría estar asociado con un comportamiento aceptor del La al incorporarse en los sitios de Ti. Por otra parte, se ha verificado que la concentración de dopante también condiciona las propiedades eléctricas obtenidas. En efecto, en los dos sistemas estudiados se observó que para materiales dopados con una baja concentración de aditivo existe un comportamiento eléctrico tipo semiconductor a temperatura ambiente, con un efecto PTCR. Por el contrario, se ha verificado que altas concentraciones de aditivo producen un material con importantes características GBBL a temperatura ambiente y un comportamiento resistivo tipo NTCR al incrementarse la temperatura. En este caso, la reducción de un gran contenido de vacantes iónicas tipo VBa” y la existencia de una fase vítrea rodeando los granos originan un material altamente resistivo. Este fenómeno refuerza la hipótesis en la cual vacantes de bario actúan como centros aceptores en los bordes de grano de BaTiO3.

In this work, a theoretical fitting to the experimental PTCR effect in slightly Nb-doped BaTiO3 from the Heywang-Jonker model is simulated. Besides, a qualitative approach was used to evaluate the GBBL characteristics of strongly Nb - doped BaTiO3. In both cases, a link between the electrical properties and the defect profile developed in these based - BaTiO3 ceramics was established. From the results, good agreement between experimental and calculated results was obtained for the PTCR ceramics. Asmall increment in Nb2O5 concentration leads to an increasing in the concentration of occupied acceptor states, the energy of the surface state and also the barrier height. In these cases, microstructural observations shown an important grain growth with average grain size between 10 and 100μm. EPR results clearly indicate low concentration of cationic vacancies for these materials. This phenomenon is associated to a charge-compensation mechanism in slightly-doped BaTiO3, that result in a semiconducting behaviour. On the other hand, the electrical behaviour of strongly–doped BaTiO3 moves away from the PTCR effect, and the material becomes insulating with noticeable GBBL characteristics. In this case, microstructural observations along defect structure analysis encourage the hypothesis in which barium vacancies act as acceptor at grain boundaries and play and important role in restricting grain growth of Nb2O5-BaTiO3 ceramics.En este trabajo se determinó la influencia de la concentración de Nb2O5 sobre el comportamiento PTCR de cerámicos basados en BaTiO3. Por otra parte, se estudió el impacto de una gran concentración del dopante sobre el comportamiento GBBL del BaTiO3. En ambos casos, se estableció una relación entre las propiedades eléctricas observadas y la estructura de defectos iónicos desarrollada. La aplicación del modelo de Heywang-Jonker permite el ajuste teórico de las curvas de resistividad – temperatura de los cerámicos PTCR estudiados. Se determinó que la incorporación de concentraciones crecientes de Nb2O5 se traduce en un incremento de la densidad de estados aceptores, en la energía de estados superficiales y en la altura de la barrera de potencial a temperatura ambiente. En estos materiales, la presencia de un mecanismo de compensación de cargas electrónico en granos que han alcanzado un gran desarrollo, origina un comportamiento tipo semiconductor. Sin embargo, la incorporación de altas concentraciones de Nb2O5 provoca una alejamiento del comportamiento PTCR y el material exhibe un efecto NTCR junto con fuertes características GBBL (grain boundary – barrier layer). Las observaciones microscópicas y el análisis de la estructura de defectos iónicos respaldan la hipótesis en la que las vacantes de bario actúan como estados aceptores y ejercen un importante rol en la inhibición del crecimiento de grano durante el sinterizado del BaTiO3 dopado con Nb2O5.

In this work the dependence of the electrical conductivity in air and in carbon monoxide of SnO2 films is studied. The conduction mechanism when the atmosphere is changed from vacuum to air and vacuum to carbon monoxide can be explained considering the modification of the intergranular potential barriers. The films exposure at temperatures higher than 300°C favors the oxygen indiffusion that causes the annihilation of oxygen vacancies.En este trabajo se estudia la dependencia de la conductividad eléctrica en aire y en monóxido de carbono de películas de SnO2. El proceso de conducción, al cambiar la atmósfera de vacío a aire y de vacío a monóxido de carbono, puede ser explicado si consideramos cómo la adsorción de estos gases altera las barreras de potencial formadas en los bordes de grano. La exposición de las películas a estos gases a temperaturas mayores que 300°C favorece la difusión interna del oxígeno lo que provoca la aniquilación de vacantes de oxígeno.

ZnO-Varistors have been studied by scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy. Tunnelling current-voltage characteristics indicate that grains present a rectifying behaviour. Since the prebreakdown zone is controlled by Schottky barriers formed by intergranular states, current density vs. temperature curves were fitted considering the tunnelling current through these barriers. Then, the Schottky barrier heights determined using the model are compared with the barrier heights obtained from the scanning tunnelling spectroscopy analysis in the grain boundary.Varistores de ZnO fueron estudiados mediante el empleo de microscopía y espectroscopía de efecto túnel. Las curvas de corriente túnel vs. tensión indican que las muestras presentan una conducta rectificante. Dado que la conducción en la zona de pre-ruptura es controlada por la formación de barreras de Schottky en los bordes de grano debidas a la presencia de estados intergranulares, las curvas de densidad de corriente vs. temperatura fueron ajustadas considerando la corriente túnel que atraviesa dichas barreras. La altura de las barreras de Schottky determinada con el modelo es comparada con las alturas obtenidas a través del análisis de barrido por espectroscopía túnel (STS) en la región del borde de grano.

Ceramic materials based on BaTiO3 modified with small amounts of antimony show interesting electric properties which make them valuable for electronic industry. These properties depend on the microestructure of the material, which is controlled by both the dopant concentration and the doping process. The aim of the present work is to study the microstructure development of Sb-doped BaTiO3 materials for concentrations ranging from 0.05 to 0.6 mol%. Doping was carried out following two different methods, the traditional mixing of oxides and surface doping starting from Sb(O(CH)3CH3)3. Materials sintered between 1300-1400ºC show quite different microstructure. For surface doped materials, a Sb2O3 concentration of 0.05 mol % leads to well densified matrials with homogeneous fine-grained microstructure. On the other hand, the traditional oxide doped materials show exaggerated grain growth.Los materiales cerámicos basados en titanato de bario con pequeñas cantidades de antimonio, exhiben interesantes propiedades que hacen posible su aplicación en la fabricación de dispositivos electrónicos. Estas propiedades dependen de la microestructura final del material, que está a su vez condicionada por la concentración de dopante y la vía utilizada para su incorporación. En este trabajo se estudia la evolución microestructural de materiales de BaTiO3 dopados con Sb en concentraciones entre 0.05 y 0.60 % mol. El dopado se ha realizado por la vía clásica a partir de Sb2O3 y mediante el proceso de dopado en superficie a partir de Sb(O(CH)3CH3)3. Los materiales sinterizados en el intervalo de temperaturas comprendido entre 1300 y 1400ºC, muestran una microestructura bien diferenciada. Para los materiales dopados en superficie, una concentración equivalente de 0.05 % mol de Sb2O3 permite obtener materiales con elevada densidad y microestructura homogénea con tamaño de grano controlado. En el caso del material dopado por la vía clásica se observa crecimiento exagerado de grano.

BackgroundHeterozygote carriers of potentially pathogenic variants in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene have increased asthma risk. However, the frequency and impact of CFTR variation among individuals with asthma is unknown.ObjectiveTo determine whether potentially pathogenic CFTR variants associate with disease severity and whether individuals with two potentially pathogenic variants exist in a severe asthma-enriched cohort.MethodsWe analyzed sequencing data spanning a 190.5Kb region of CFTR in participants from the Severe Asthma Research Program (SARP1-3). Potentially pathogenic, rare CFTR variants (frequency  G] and one Arg1070Trp) and a homozygote for the VVCC, 5 T; TG12.ConclusionsWe found potentially pathogenic CFTR variants within a severe asthma-enriched cohort, including three compound heterozygote genotypes variably associated with CF in NHW individuals. These findings provide the rationale for CFTR sequencing and phenotyping of CF-related traits in individuals with severe asthma.

The objective was to identify how emotional intelligence and coping with stress explain students’ concern about returning to face-to-face classes post COVID-19.Methods: This was an explanatory and cross-sectional study. The sample by intention was 588 students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale (REIS), the Stress Coping Questionnaire (CAE), and the ACAD-COVID-19 scale were used. For data collection, the instruments were digitized. Bivariate analysis with Chi-square and multivariate logistic regression was performed.Results: The mean age of the participants was 19.72 years; most were single and without children (96.9% and 96.8%, respectively). 74.3% did not work, 80.8% were from the first years of study, and 52.7% belonged to nursing school. About 94.2% of participants indicated having adequate emotional intelligence, 91.3% expressed coping with adequate stress, and 67.2% indicated serious concern about returning to face-to-face classes. An association was found between gender (p=0.042), age (p=0.002), year of study (p=0.027), emotional intelligence (p=0.001), and coping with stress (p=0.001) with concern for return to face-to-face classes. Emotional intelligence identified as adequate (OR: 2.580; IC95%: 1.117– 5.960) and coping with stress identified as adequate (OR: 2.008; IC95%: 1.018– 3.960) are more likely to express serious concern about the return to face-to-face classes after the COVID-19 pandemic.Conclusion: According to the results, the need to safeguard the psychological aspects of students is highlighted, especially emotional intelligence, as well as to improve coping with stress so that they can better manage concerns about returning to face-to-face classes. The educational authorities should implement strategies to improve these aspects in order to ensure the adequate return to face-to-face classes in new scenarios.Keywords: emotional intelligence, coping, psychological stress, expression of concern, health science students
