1. On the electromagnetic interaction and the anomalous term in the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory

Abstract

The problem of vectorial mesons embedded in an electromagnetic field via Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau (DKP) formalism is reinvestigated. Considering the electromagnetic interaction as a minimal coupling, an incorrect value $(g=1)$ is identified for the gyromagnetic factor ($g$-factor). Furthermore, it is shown that is cumbersome to find analytical solutions due to the presence of the so-called anomalous term for the spin-1 sector of the DKP theory. Suspecting that the anomalous term results from an incomplete version of the DKP equation to describe the electromagnetic interaction, we consider the addition of a non-minimal coupling. This leads to the correct $g$-factor $(g=2)$, and as a consequence, the anomalous term becomes proportional to an external four current. Abstract

This work re-examines the issue of spin-$1$ particles in a ($2+1$)-dimensional Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau oscillator (DKPO) in the presence of an external magnetic field. By following the appropriate procedure for the spin-$1$ sector of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau (DKP) theory, the previously used $6\times 6$ representation in the literature is shown to be reducible to a $3\times 3$ irreducible representation. This approach enabled us to find new aspects of the results recently disseminated in various studies, as well as other considerations overlooked and requiring revision. Abstract

Dictionary learning can be used for image superresolution by learning a pair of coupled dictionaries of image patches from high-resolution and low-resolution image pairs such that the corresponding pairs share the same sparse vector when represented by the coupled dictionaries. These dictionaries then can be used to to reconstruct the corresponding high-resolution patches from low-resolution input images based on sparse recovery. The idea is to recover the shared sparse vector using the low-resolution dictionary and then multiply it by the high-resolution dictionary to recover the corresponding high-resolution image patch. In this work, we study the effect of the sparse recovery algorithm that we use on the quality of the reconstructed images. We offer empirical experiments to search for the best sparse recovery algorithm that can be used for this purpose.

Abstract

A two-interacting-qubit quantum Rabi-like model with vanishing transverse fields on the qubit-pair is studied. Independently of the coupling regime, this model can be exactly and unitarily reduced to two independent single-spin quantum Rabi models, where the spin-spin coupling plays the role of the transverse field. This transformation and the analytical treatment of the single-spin quantum Rabi model provide the key to prove the integrability of our model. The existence of different first-order quantum phase transitions, characterized by discontinuous two-spin magnetization, mean photon number and concurrence, is brought to light.

Abstract

The La Ovejería Tonalite is a N-S elo ngated body that crops out on the eastern side of the Sierra del Aconquija, west of of Tafi del Valle, Tucumán Province, Argentina. It is located just south of thelarger, and probably genetically related, El Infiernillo Granodiorite. The studied pluton has a zoning determined by different grain sizes and mineralogies: the northern outcrops are medium-grained and composed of plagioclase, quartz scarce microcline, and biotite and pistacite (± tourmaline) as major accessories; the southern part of the intrusive is fine grained and composed of plagioclase, quartz scarce microcline, and biotite and sphene as accessory minerals. Two meter thick granitic dikes cross-cut the tonalites. The tonalite is calc-alkaline and peraluminous, with an ASI between 1.10 and 1.48. It intrudes metamorphic basement rocks composed of low grade schists that are characterized by an increase in static metamorphism, by syntectonic intrusions and by the intensity of flow folds.The emplacement of the La Ovejería Tonalite probably occurred during the Lower Paleozoic and was structurally controlled by the Tafi Megafracture, like the other intrusive bodies of the area. The El Infiernillo intrusive is composed of a two-mica (± tourmaline) equigranular granodiorite main facies and a biotite and epidote bearing (without primary muscovite) tonalitic border facies. According to field relations and petrographic, geochemical and structural data, the La Ovejería Tonalite may correspond to the northern border facies of the El Infiernillo intrusive.

10. How the Characteristics of Words in Child-Directed Speech Differ from Adult-Directed Speech to Influence Children's Productive Vocabularies

Abstract

Child-directed speech has long been known to influence children's vocabulary learning. However, while we know that caregiver utterances differ from those directed at adults in various ways, little is known about any differences in the lexical properties of child-directed and adult-directed utterances. We compare over half a million word tokens from adult speech directed at children (from caregiver--child transcriptions) to the same quantity directed at adults. We show that child-directed speech contains greater numbers of words that are lower in phonemic length, higher in frequency, lower in phonotactic probability, and higher in neighborhood density than adult-directed speech; furthermore, child-directed speech explains over twice the variability of children's productive noun vocabularies than adult-directed speech. These findings indicate that children's word production is clearly influenced by the characteristics of the words spoken directly to them and that researchers need to be wary of using adult-directed language corpora when calculating lexical measures.

Abstract

A protocol for generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in a system of $N$ coupled qubits is proposed. The Hamiltonian model assumes $N$-wise interactions between the $N$ qubits and the presence of a controllable time-dependent field acting upon one spin only. Implementing such a scenario is in the experimental reach. The dynamical problem is exactly solved thanks to the symmetries of the Hamiltonian model. The possibility of generating GHZ states under both adiabatic and non-adiabatic conditions is shown and discussed in detail.

Abstract

Managing game species suffering population declines demands effective harvest regulation to allow for species recovery. Striking a balance is crucial to ensure that regulations are not perceived as unfair impositions, potentially leading to non-compliance issues. The European turtle-dove (Streptopelia turtur) is a unique example of such conservation conflict, marked by a temporary moratorium of its hunting in the western European countries in 2021, maintained in subsequent years. Exploring the views of turtle-dove hunters is critical for predicting the acceptability of regulatory measures. Here we explored the preferences and perceptions of Spanish hunters regarding policy changes in European turtle-dove hunting. Specifically, we first investigated hunters' views on the current moratorium and then, using a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE), we assessed their preferences for future management scenarios regarding species recovery and its hunting. The findings revealed heterogeneous perceptions among hunters surveyed about the species' population trends and the procedures to be followed if hunting was reopened in the future (in particular, about who should hunt if small quotas would not allow hunting to occur in all hunting estates), but an overall rejection of the moratorium. The DCE showed that their most favored management option was hunting return in the medium term, and conservation efforts to be carried out across all European and African countries in the migration route. We conclude that transnational cooperative strategies that balance species recovery and science-based hunting regulations are required to achieve a transition to more effective and accepted conservation efforts.

Properly planning and sizing such systems is although an aspect that can greatly influence the sustainability of the intervention, and the arrival to the market of the third generation minigrids poses new challenges to the process. Three main challenges are identified as pivotal for the proper sizing of new generation microgrids: arrival of the main grid, inappropriateness of Net Present Cost as only objective function in the strategy selection process, and necessity to operate on already existing minigrids. Such aspects are addressed in this work by proposing a methodological advancement to an existing open-source microgrid sizing model: a grid outage model alongside the definition of new constraints and variables for the optimization problem with grid-connected microgrids, a multi-objective optimization option, and a brown-field optimization option. The new version of the model is tested on real life case studies in rural Rwanda (greenfield) and Mozambique (brownfield), proving the profitability of grid-connected and grid-extension solutions for sufficiently low connection distances. Sensitivity analyses are performed to assess variations in system size, cost and CO2 emissions with respect to microgrid and grid connection parameters.

Abstract

It is shown that a spin-1/2 fermion coupled to the axially symmetric electromagnetic vector potential has the same matrix structure as that one for the planar Dirac oscillator. In particular, the planar Dirac oscillator can be interpreted as a charged particle minimally coupled to a transverse homogeneous magnetic field.

Abstract

We point out a misleading treatment in the literature regarding to bound-state solutions for the $s$-wave Klein-Gordon equation with exponential scalar and vector potentials. Following the appropriate procedure for an arbitrary mixing of scalar and vector couplings, we generalize earlier works and present the correct solution to bound states and additionally we address the issue of scattering states.
