International audience; The present paper deals with recent research activities carried out in ONERA regarding laminar/ turbulent transition control within JTI Clean Sky SFWA-ITD (Smart Fixed Wing Aircraft Integrated Technology Demonstrator). Two main topics are investigated here: the first one is the control of the attachment line transition using both passive and active devices, ie either an optimized Anti Contamination Device or wall suction through perforated panels. The second topic is the control of a cross-flow transition process using a passive device made of micronsized roughness elements.

International audience; Hybrid propulsion generally combines a liquid oxidizer with a solid fuel. Compared to solid or bi- liquid engines, this type of propulsion offers advantages in terms of cost and flexibility. For several years, ONERA has been providing expertise in this area, both in experimental and numerical simulations. Various hybrid rocket motors have been designed and tested on ground, including under low ambient pressure conditions and in flight. The Propulsion Laboratory unit of the DMAE uses fully instrumented engine breadboards in order to optimize the oxidizer/fuel pair, as well as the injection system and the combustion efficiency. In addition, 0D and 1D codes for engine design areactively being developed. More recently, studies have been undertaken as part of the LEOP future satellite platforms, with the development of an innovative new combustion chamber.; La propulsion hybride combine généralement un oxydant liquide et un combustible solide. Comparé aux moteurs solides et bi-liquides, ce type de propulsion présente des avantages en termes de coût et de flexibilité. Depuis plusieurs années, l’ONERA offre une expertise dans ce domaine, par la réalisation à la fois d’études expérimentales et de simulations numériques. Différents moteurs hybrides y ont été conçus et testés au sol, y compris dans des conditions de haute altitude, et en vol. L’unité Laboratoire de Propulsion du DMAE utilise des moyens d’essais instrumentés pour optimiser le couple oxydant/combustible mais aussi le système d’injection et le rendement de combustion. En outre des codes 0D et 1D permettant la conception de ces moteurs y sont également développés. Plus récemment, des études ont été entreprises dans le cadre des futures plateformes de satellite de télécommunication avec le développement d’une architecture de chambre de combustion innovante.

This paper focuses on two plasma actuators, developed at ONERA: the DBD actuator (Dielectric Barrier Discharge) and the PSJ actuator (Plasma Synthetic Jet). At the DMAE (Modeling for Aerodynamics and Energetics Department), DBD actuation is investigated for laminar/transition purposes. The results presented deal with 2D configurations including both experimental and modeling works. As regards the activities on the PSJ actuator, most of the work is dedicated to the detailed characterization of the general physics involved in such an actuator. Similarly to the DBD activities, both experimental and modeling investigations are performed in order to be able to develop efficient control strategies using the PSJ actuator., AerospaceLab Journal, Issue 10, December 2015; ISSN: 2107-6596

The influence of laminar-turbulent transition on injection-driven flows fluctuations is investigated. URANS simulations of the transitional flow are compared with a laminar simulation and a cold-flow experiment. The transition in the URANS simulations is imposed using an intermittency function based on experimental observations by Gazanion et al. The simulations evidence a strong influence of the transition on the flow fluctuations. In particular, the amplification of PVS modes is reduced in the transition region, and the vortical structures are damped. The influence of the parameters of the transition model in these phenomena is detailed. It is also showed that using the transition model can improve the relevance with the experiment

International audience; Les conduits dont les parois sont traitées à l'aide de matériaux absorbants acoustiques (liners) peuvent exhiber en présence d'écoulement une instabilité hydrodynamique. Il a été montré dans la littérature que lorsqu'une onde acoustique se propage le long du liner dans une configuration où l'instabilité hydrodynamique se développe, l'onde acoustique est fortement amplifiée au lieu d'être atténuée. Il a aussi été montré par analyse de stabilité locale que le mode hydrodynamique, généralement convectivement instable, peut dans certaines configurations être absolument instable. Nous allons dans nos travaux nous intéresser à cette problèmatique en mettant en œuvre des outils d'analyse de stabilité globale, c'est-à-dire que l'on va étudier la stabilité du problème consistant en l'écoulement de conduit en présence d'un liner de taille finie (et non infini comme en stabilité locale), et donc prendre en compte la présence des ruptures d'impédance entre la zone traitée acoustiquement et la paroi rigide. Nous étudierons comment la présence de ces ruptures d'impédance impacte les propriétés de stabilité de l'écoulement par rapport aux résultats de stabilité locale.
