Objective: to analyze the repercussions of transphobia on trans men's and transmasculine people's health., Method: a qualitative study carried out with 38 participants, 35 trans men and three trans men, who attended specialized transgender health services in Bahia, Brazil. In-depth interviews were carried out between June 2019 and February 2020. The Discourse of Collective Subject technique was used and interpretation based on the theoretical concept of transphobia., Results: transphobia has intra and interpersonal repercussions on the life and health of trans men and transmasculine people who attend health services. There were experiences of violence in the private space, fraying of family ties; discrimination in the school space; limitation in professional/work opportunities; barriers to self-care and access to health services; elaboration of trans identity protection strategies; consequences of transphobia on psycho-emotional health., Conclusion: transphobia is a social disease that affects different life and health dimensions. It causes damage to the socialization of trans men and transmasculine people, in addition to health service spaces as well as in family environments, schools, universities and at work, which result in non-adherence to self-care, distancing from health services and psycho-emotional distress.

Objective: to map the expressions of ageism directed to older adults in health services and the respective coping measures., Method: a scoping review of primary studies in English, Spanish and Portuguese, without time delimitation and collected from 14 databases. Selection of the titles, abstracts and full text was in charge of two independent and blinded reviewers, totaling a corpus comprised by 41 articles. Data extraction was performed by pairs. The data were presented in narrative summaries and charts., Results: the ageism expressions are understood at the interpersonal level through images and attitudes that depreciate, devalue life and delegitimize older adults' needs, as well as at the institutional level, which confers barriers to accessing health services, generating non-assistance and neglect. The coping measures consist of educational interventions and expansion of communication channels between aged people, health professionals and managers., Conclusion: the results may make health professionals vigilant for care/neglect guided by age bias and sensitive for coping with ageism by obtaining diverse scientific knowledge. The analysis of the phenomenon in the Unified Health System context constitutes a knowledge gap, as well as the implicit ageism expressions. (1) Ageism expressions involve interpersonal and institutional relationships. (2) Ageism directed to older adults permeates from diagnosis to treatment. (3) The coping measures comprise educational actions and also scientific research studies. (4) It is necessary to recognize the presence of ageism in health services. (5) It is necessary to recognize care/neglect practices guided by age bias.

Objective: To analyze the transitions experienced by mothers and children/adolescents with sickle cell disease after the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: A qualitative study involving 19 mothers of children and adolescents with sickle cell disease. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews via WhatsApp, followed by Thematic Analysis and Descending Hierarchical Classification with the help of Interface de R pour les Analyses Multidimensionnelles de Texteset de Questionnaires and interpreted in the light of Afaf Meleis' Transition Theory., Results: Support from family members for displacement; mothers' adherence to the routine of daily stimuli and physical exercises favored healthy transitions; lack of remote health care; low socioeconomic resources; interruption of the physiotherapy service; and maternal overload favor unhealthy transitions., Final Considerations: Efforts/movements by mothers ensure the healthy transition of children/adolescents with sickle disease during the pandemic, while supporting their unhealthy transition.

Health-related stigma, a form of devaluation related to a health condition, is common in individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD). Pain is the hallmark symptom of SCD, and health-related stigma is often described during care-seeking for pain management. Few published instruments measure health-related stigma in individuals with SCD. This study builds on the psychometrics of the 30- and 40-item Sickle Cell Disease Health-Related Stigma Scale (SCD-HRSS). In a sample of 197 adults with SCD, the results support the reliability and validity of a 21-item scale, the SCD-HRSS-Short Form, with an overall Cronbach's alpha reliability of 0.91 and discriminant validity with the PROMIS-29 subscales (anxiety, depressive symptoms, pain interference, physical fatigue, sleep, and role satisfaction). A shorter yet reliable and valid scale may decrease the burden for this underrepresented, minoritized population while still providing important information regarding their experiences of stigmatization.

Objective: to understand the biographical ruptures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent and young trans men and transmasculine people in the Brazilian context., Method: qualitative study - multicenter, online survey. A total of 97 self-identified trans men and 22 transmasculine people participated and completed a semi-structured form in two stages. The data was subjected to Reflective Thematic Content Analysis. The interpretation was made on a sociological basis, based on the concept of biographical rupture., Results: five categories were derived: interruption of hormonization, surgeries and specialized follow-up; discomforts caused by the rupture of masculine characteristics, self-image, self-perception, and identity; vulnerability from the losses of family members and significant people, employment, and weakening of support networks; emergence of psycho-emotional problems, such as loss of meaning in life; demands for nursing care and valuing the life of transmasculine adolescents and young men in post-pandemic times., Conclusion: the biographical ruptures caused by the pandemic threatened the identities of trans and transmasculine people of adolescents and youth, degraded and interrupted biographies, leading them to the loss of meaning in life. Nursing professionals can be strategic and essential in overcoming threats by intervening early., Keypoints: (1) Shows biographical ruptures in transmasculinities during the pandemic. (2) Elucidates threats to achieving the desired trans identity. (3) Reveals barriers in services that hinder hormone transition. Objectives: to analyze self-care deficit among older men in the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil and to discuss the implications for nursing practice., Methods: web survey, multicentric, qualitative. A total of 120 older men participated, applying a form from April to June 2020 and April to August 2021. Reflective Thematic Analysis, interpreted by Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory, was used., Results: temporally, the self-care of older men was manifested in the self-care requirements - affective bonds, self-care for development - meditation and self-care with health deviations - remote consultations. Fully, partially compensatory, educational/support systems mobilized self-care., Final Considerations: as care managers, nurses can strengthen the support network for older men by activating professionals from the multidisciplinary team, family members, caregivers and the community to promote self-care and correct health deviations in times of crisis.

Background: Sickle cell disease is the most common genetic hemoglobinopathy globally and systemically affects body functioning, decreasing exercise capacity., Objective: To assess exercise capacity through the 6-minute walk test (6MWT) and biomarkers in children and adolescents with sickle cell disease., Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study involving 20 children and adolescents from Brazil. Demographic and socioeconomic data were obtained. Baseline measurements included biomarkers (red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, white blood cells, platelets, reticulocytes, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, C-reactive protein, interleukin 6, and fetal hemoglobin). The following data were obtained before, during, and after the 6MWT: heart rate, blood pressure, and peripheral oxygen saturation., Results: Eighteen children and adolescents ages 5-14 years old were analyzed, 61.1% boys, 100% black or brown, and 61.1% in primary education, with low household income. The average distance walked in 6MWT was 463.8 (137.7) m, significantly less than the predicted value (P < .001). The distance of 6MWT was associated positively with age (P = .042) and inversely with reticulocyte count (P = .42) and interleukin 6 (P = .00). Age modified the effect of interleukin 6 in younger children (P = .038)., Conclusion: Our findings suggest increased baseline levels of biomarkers of hemolysis and inflammation impact on 6MWT performance.

Objective: to describe the methodological process of developing a nursing care protocol for children with sickle cell disease in the emergency room., Method: convergent care research, carried out in a public pediatric hospital in the state of Bahia, with 12 emergency nurses specialist. Data production took place between July 2020 and April 2021, with semi-structured interviews, observation in a field diary and convergence groups, according to the research phases: conception, instrumentation, scrutiny and analysis., Results: The final result was the construction of a nursing care protocol for children with sickle cell disease in the emergency room for use in the study field., Final Considerations: the Convergent Care Research proved to be an excellent methodological procedure for intervention in the health service, whose nursing care protocol was based on the reflections of professionals on evidence-based practices, whose consensus can enable safe and quality care.

Touriga Nacional is a well-adapted Portuguese grape variety in São Francisco River Valley (northeastern Brazil). Nevertheless, it has only been indicated to short-term consumption because of the lack of chemical stability, which is attributed to low grape acidity and incomplete phenolic maturity. Therefore, we used Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled High-resolution Mass Spectrometry, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and chemometrics (PCA and PLS-DA) to evaluate the grape maturity and maceration time on chemical composition of wines from two harvest seasons. Moreover, we investigated how these experimental factors could affect their chemical stability. Grapes maturity showed to be the main effect. Overall, phenolic acids and short-chain organic acids were found to be at higher levels in wines produced with unripe grapes from February and shorter maceration time (p < 0.05). Proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids were increased in wines macerated for longer time using overripe grapes harvested in July. Objectives: to evidence and analyze the health needs of mothers of children with Congenital Zika Syndrome., Methods: a total of 44 articles published between October/2015 and March/2021 on PubMed, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science and Science Direct were included. The RTI bank and CASP score were applied to classify the methodological quality of the studies. Reflective content analysis and Cecílio and Matsumoto's taxonomy were used for analysis. Visual map was used as a technique for presenting the results., Results: mothers need access to social protection, family-centered, multi-professional empathetic monitoring, cultivating bonds and affection by professionals, sharing of care between health network services, strengthening the social support network and fostering coexistence groups between them., Final Considerations: intersectoral initiatives must be implemented for better housing conditions, fighting stigma, holding parents accountable and resuming life project.

Objective: to evaluate the factors associated with emotion regulation in men with internet access living in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: an epidemiological survey, conducted with 1015 men. An electronic form was applied containing sociodemographic and occupational characteristics, support and coping strategies, as well as emotional and behavioral aspects. Emotion regulation was assessed using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire . Results: The prevalence values observed were 44.6% for Low Cognitive Reappraisal and of 47.1% for High Emotional Suppression. The following factors were identified as associated: (a) with Low Cognitive Reappraisal: being aged 30 years old or more, practicing physical activity, worrying about social distancing and having positive emotions and feelings; and (b) with High Emotional Suppression: being heterosexual, non-white race/skin color, having security support or public administration, not sanitizing food, worrying about lack of physical activity and not having negative emotions. Conclusion: the adoption of emotion regulation strategies was associated with individual, contextual and emotional/behavioral characteristics. Masculinity ideals seem to exert an influence on these relationships.

Objective: To analyze the relationships between sociodemographic variables, intolerance to uncertainty (INT), social support, and psychological distress (i.e., indicators of Common Mental Disorders (CMDs) and perceived stress (PS)) in Brazilian men during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: A cross-sectional study with national coverage, of the web survey type, and conducted with 1006 Brazilian men during the period of social circulation restriction imposed by the health authorities in Brazil for suppression of the coronavirus and control of the pandemic. Structural equation modeling analysis was performed., Results: Statistically significant direct effects of race/skin color (λ = 0.268; p -value < 0.001), socioeconomic status (SES) (λ = 0.306; p -value < 0.001), household composition (λ = 0.281; p -value < 0.001), PS (λ = 0.513; p -value < 0.001), and INT (λ = 0.421; p -value < 0.001) were evidenced in the occurrence of CMDs. Black-skinned men with higher SES, living alone, and with higher PS and INT levels presented higher prevalence values of CMDs., Conclusions: High levels of PS and INT were the factors that presented the strongest associations with the occurrence of CMDs among the men. It is necessary to implement actions to reduce the stress-generating sources as well as to promote an increase in resilience and the development of intrinsic reinforcements to deal with uncertain threats.

Objective: to analyze the stigma characteristics perceived in the experience of men who had COVID-19., Method: this qualitative study involved men living in Brazil, diagnosed with COVID-19, who answered semi-structured questions in an online form. Data were subjected to thematic and lexical analysis, interpreted in the light of the stigma theory., Results: 92 men, adults, cisgender, heterosexual, of mixed race/color, belonging to middle class, living in the urban area, with higher education participated. The stigma characteristics evidenced were the occurrence of leave, perception of impolite treatment, use of labels and discrimination by co-workers, family members, neighbors and even healthcare professionals, with consequences for the psycho-emotional dimension., Final Considerations: discrimination and exclusion derived from stigma surprised men marked by class and gender privileges, little used to being downgraded in interactions when compared to other groups.

Objective: To describe coping strategies, concerns and habits of Brazilian men during the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: Cross-sectional, descriptive and nationwide study, carried out in 2020 with a total of 1015 men living in Brazil. A descriptive statistic was used., Results: Young (41.2%), black (61.4%), highly educated (66.8%), high income (33.2%), living with family/friends (49.7%) and formal workers (65.6%) predominated. As coping strategies predominated: exclusive use of the private health system (36.4%), support from family/friends (78.2%) and leisure (97.7%) and domestic activities (64.9 %). Social distancing (59.7%), economic (58.0%) and work situations (44.4%) were the main reasons for concern. Among the prevention/control attitudes, hand washing (94.3%) and social distancing (91.0%) prevailed. Media consumption (84.6%) and health risk (65.4%) were the main increased habits., Conclusion: Brazilian men adopted coping strategies recommended by health authorities, with concerns and habits of potential risk to physical and mental health.

Objectives: to analyze the characteristics of stigma in the interactions of people with pain and sickle cell disease and the coping strategies adopted., Methods: qualitative study, conducted in Bahia's reference units between January and July 2018. In-depth interviews were applied to 25 adults, followed by content analysis and interpretation in light of the Sociological Theory of Stigma., Results: four categories emerged from the data: Stigma in interactions with family members; Stigma in interactions with people in the general public; Stigma in interactions with health workers; and Strategies for coping with stigma., Final Considerations: in the participants' interactions, stigma produced discrediting pain reports, labeling and stereotyping, blaming patients for not improving their health, discrimination, racism, inadequate pain assessment, and delay in care. Coping included silencing, covering up, aggressive behavior, exposure to risk, reading religious texts and praises, and church attendance.

Objective: To comprehend the daily rites of child-mothers with congenital Zika virus syndrome for the prevention of COVID-19 during the pandemic., Method: Study with a qualitative-exploratory approach, in the light on the comprehensive sociology of Michel Maffesoli, carried out in WhatsApp groups of associations of families of children with the syndrome. 44 mothers answered the online questionnaire between April and May 2020. Lexical and similarity analyzes were used through IRaMuTeQ., Results: Mothers encourage exercises for child development and help the children's school activities, watch television, sew, cook, support other mothers on social networks and find satisfaction in not meeting previously established schedules. To prevent COVID-19, mothers adopt physical distance, try to consume healthy foods and intensify hygiene measures., Final Considerations: Child-mothers experience, in physical distance being closer to their children and other mothers through the networks, and adopt preventive care to COVID-19, with care overload.

Objectives: to build and validate the content of an educational manual for the inclusion of family members of hospitalized children in the prevention and early identification of complications associated with IVT through the peripheral route., Methods: it was a methodological study of construction and validation of the content of an instructional material. The validation process took place using the Delphi Technique, adopting a content validation index equal to or greater than 0.80 as a desirable consensus., Results: the handbook was validated in the second assessment round in all categories: content, language, illustration, layout, motivation, culture, and applicability. The Global Content Validation Index was 0.98., Conclusions: because of the high values obtained (> 0.8), after the second evaluation, the handbook is considered validated in terms of content, by expert judges.

Objective: to characterize the content of Youtube™ videos related to nursing professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: a qualitative study that examined 47 videos on Youtube™ posted between 11/03 and 11/04 2020, which were subjected to thematic analysis., Results: four categories emerged: "the role of nurses in care production during the pandemic", which addresses the management of services and individual care; "Overview of the pandemic from the perspective of nurses in different countries", presenting experiences and encouraging physical distance; "Tributes and motivation to mobilize the category", in addition to targeted tributes, calls for nurses to claim their rights; "Criticisms and demands to improve working conditions", which highlights the insecurity of care provision settings., Final Considerations: nursing work conditions in different countries, recognition of the importance of professionals during the pandemic, and claims of the category to improve working conditions were the main content found on Youtube™.

This article presents a systematized reflection and discussion around two guiding axes: the first discusses aging and vulnerabilities to biological, physical, cognitive, social and affective losses that require specific attention, as well as vulnerabilities to COVID-19 to which institutionalized elderly people are exposed; the second, we reflect on the adoption of restrictive and protective measures to prevent the spread of the virus, aiming to keep the elder health and mitigate the effects of the pandemic. The conclusion is that the pandemic has increased the many vulnerabilities to which institutionalized older people were already exposed, adding vulnerability to a new disease, such as COVID-19, due to its high lethality and comorbidity, aggravated by precariousness of long-term Brazilian institutions due to the negligence of public authorities, civil society, the management of the institution and the families of the patients. Objective: to understand how men's feelings and emotions contribute to the Covid-19 framing in Brazil., Method: Asocial-historical, qualitative study, carried out with 200 men resident in Brazil, through online search on digital platform.The grasped data were analyzed by the Collective Subject Discourse method in the light of the reference of epidemic disease proposed by Charles Rosemberg., Results: Negative feelings and anxiety prevailed due to the knowledge about the growing number of hospitalized patients and deaths from the pandemic conveyed in the news. For men, the optimism is necessary to encourage attitudes with responsibility and trust that the crisis will be overcome.Subsequently, men present a set of attitudes and behaviors for coping with the pandemic.Moreover,the acceptance signals the emergence of the fourth dramaturgical act of the Covid-19framing., Conclusion: Men's feelings and emotions, in this historic context, pervade three of the four acts of the Covid-19 framingin Brazil.

Objective: To evaluate epidemiological aspects of priapism in patients with sickle cell disease, and these aspects impact on adult sexual function., Methods: This was a cross-sectional study including individuals with sickle cell disease who were evaluated at a reference center for sickle cell. Participants completed a structured questionnaire about their sociodemographic characteristics and priapism events. Sexual function was assessed using validated two instruments, the Erection Hardness Score and one about the sex life satisfaction., Results: Sixty-four individuals with median aged of 12 (7 to 28) years were interviewed. The prevalence of priapism was 35.9% (23/64). The earliest priapism episode occurred at 2 years of age and the latest at 42 years. The statistical projection was that 71.1% of individuals of the study would have at least one episode of priapism throughout life. Patients with episodes of priapism (10/23) had significantly worse erectile function Erection Hardness Score of 2 [1-3]; p=0.01 and were less satisfied with sexual life 3 [3-5]; p=0.02., Conclusion: Priapism is usually present in childhood, and severe episodes are associated with cavernous damage, impairment in the quality of the erection, and lower sexual satisfaction.

Objectives: To capture and analyze the structure of homeless people's social representations about self-care., Methods: Research based on the theory of social representations, with 122 people in street situation. A semistructured questionnaire and free evocation technique were applied with the inducing words "caring for myself is". The evocations were processed by the software Evoc and Iramuteq, allowing to identify central and peripheral elements and the connection between them., Results: For the group studied, "feeding oneself, personal hygiene, protecting oneself and visiting the doctor" are actions and attitudes that represent caring for themselves. In the streets, "feeding oneself" is an essential action for living/surviving that underpins the others., Final Considerations: Despite behaviors based on the biomedical model, self-care was represented by extended actions to meet basic human needs. This study offers elements of reflection to rethink care practices developed by health professionals.

Objective: To analyze scientific productions about the repercussions of intestinal ostomy on male sexuality and discuss its implications for planning nursing care., Method: Integrative literature review conducted in the databases Scientific Electronic Library Online, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Sciverse Scopus, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health, with no pre-established time frame and using the descriptors "sexuality," "ostomy," "colostomy," "men" and "nursing.", Results: 21 articles were included to compose the interpretative analysis. Studies have shown that intestinal ostomy can affect male sexuality and reflect negatively on biophysiological, psychoemotional, and sociocultural dimensions. Final Considerations: Through education strategies in programs that follow-up ostomized men from preoperative to rehabilitation, the nurse can assist in adapting to reality, as well as in the quality of life.

Objective: To understand the experiences and care practices of mothers of children with congenital Zika syndrome., Methods: A qualitative study with collection held in Feira de Santana - Bahia, between September and November 2017, from in-depth interviews and Story-Drawing with 11 family members of children, using thematic content analysis., Results: Mothers take care from experiences with health professionals and groups of mothers. They reorganize themselves in order to optimize time, streamline domestic activities, teach family members, and navigate care spaces. They experience the routine organizing the home, taking care of the children and, specifically, the child with syndrome, referring to: bedtime; giving a shower; changing diapers; feeding; playing; and, stimulating, actions mediated by intense crying and environmental preparation., Conclusion: The experiences are unique and exceptional, conforming the social representation of the mothers as a group, the "mothers of micro", an aspect that differs from other experiences.

Objective: To understand spirituality/religiosity as experienced by people with sickle cell disease, and its influence on coping with the disease., Method: A qualitative, descriptive, and exploratory study conducted in the State of Bahia. Twenty-nine respondents participated in semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was used to analyze the empirical material., Results: Individuals with sickle cell disease experience spirituality/religiosity motivated by their hope for a miracle, and fear of death; among their rites are: reading religious materials, individual and group prayer, and attendance at worship services. The effects on their health include: comfort by means of coping by comparing two evils, anxiety relief, social support, and lifestyle changes; however, spirituality/religiosity may be impaired., Final Considerations: This study demonstrates the need to qualify health professionals to address spiritual issues of these individuals during illness, with the aims of diagnosing suffering and anguish, and providing care, comfort and strengthening of the spiritual bonds of these individuals.

Introduction: Evidence indicates an increase in the prevalence of enuresis in individuals with sickle cell disease. The present study aims to evaluate the prevalence and impact of enuresis on quality of life in individuals with sickle cell disease., Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated individuals with sickle cell disease followed at a reference clinic, using a questionnaire designed to evaluate the age of complete toilet training, the presence of enuresis and lower urinary tract, and the impact on quality of life of these individuals., Results: Fifty children presenting SCD (52% females, mean age ten years) were included in the study. Of those, 34% (17/50) presented as HbSC, 56% with HbSS (28/50), 2% Sα-thalassemia (1/5) and 8% the type of SCD was not determined. The prevalence of enuresis was 42% (21/50), affecting 75% of subjects at fi ve years and about 15% of adolescents at 15 years of age. Enuresis was classifi ed as monosymptomatic in 33.3% (7/21) and nonmonosymptomatic in 66.6% (14/21) of the cases, being primary in all subjects. Nocturia was identifi ed in 24% (12/50), urgency in 20% (10/50) and daytime incontinence 10% (5/50) of the individuals. Enuresis had a signifi cant impact on the quality of life of 67% of the individuals., Conclusion: Enuresis was highly prevalent among children with SCD, and continues to be prevalent throughout early adulthood, being more common in males. The rapidly increasing number of cases of Zika virus and limited understanding of its congenital sequelae (e.g., microcephaly) led to stories of fear and uncertainty across social media and other mass communication networks. In this study, we used techniques generic to netnography, a form of ethnography, using Internet-based computer-mediated communications as a source of data to understand the experience and perceptions of families with infants diagnosed with Zika-related microcephaly. We screened 27 YouTube™ videos published online between October 2015 and July 2016, during which the Zika epidemic started, peaked, and declined. We identified three themes: (a) experiencing the news of a diagnosis of Zika-associated microcephaly; (b) experiencing feelings and expectations of the 'imperfect' child; and (c) seeking to understand microcephaly to care for the child. We found that families experienced distressing feelings of shock, sadness, hopelessness, and pain, while dealing with emerging and sometimes conflicting information being transmitted by news outlets, uncertainty about the child's health, and healthcare providers' lack of clarity to guide the family members.
