Context. Until recently, camera networks designed for monitoring fireballs worldwide were not fully automated, implying that in case of a meteorite fall, the recovery campaign was rarely immediate. This was an important limiting factor as the most fragile - hence precious - meteorites must be recovered rapidly to avoid their alteration. Aims. The Fireball Recovery and InterPlanetary Observation Network (FRIPON) scientific project was designed to overcome this limitation. This network comprises a fully automated camera and radio network deployed over a significant fraction of western Europe and a small fraction of Canada. As of today, it consists of 150 cameras and 25 European radio receivers and covers an area of about 1.5 × 10km. Methods. The FRIPON network, fully operational since 2018, has been monitoring meteoroid entries since 2016, thereby allowing the characterization of their dynamical and physical properties. In addition, the level of automation of the network makes it possible to trigger a meteorite recovery campaign only a few hours after it reaches the surface of the Earth. Recovery campaigns are only organized for meteorites with final masses estimated of at least 500 g, which is about one event per year in France. No recovery campaign is organized in the case of smaller final masses on the order of 50 to 100 g, which happens about three times a year; instead, the information is delivered to the local media so that it can reach the inhabitants living in the vicinity of the fall. Results. Nearly 4000 meteoroids have been detected so far and characterized by FRIPON. The distribution of their orbits appears to be bimodal, with a cometary population and a main belt population. Sporadic meteors amount to about 55% of all meteors. A first estimate of the absolute meteoroid flux (mag < -5; meteoroid size ≥∼1 cm) amounts to 1250/yr/10km. This value is compatible with previous estimates. Finally, the first meteorite was recovered in Italy (Cavezzo, January 2020) thanks to the PRISMA network, a component of the FRIPON science project., FRIPON was initiated by funding from ANR (grant N.13- BS05-0009-03), carried by the Paris Observatory, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris-Saclay University and Institut Pythéas (LAM-CEREGE). International audience; We have evaluated the antioxidant effect of green tea on cadmium-induced hepatic dysfunction and stress oxidant in rats. Adult male Wistar rats were administered cadmium by injection with 20 mu moles/Kg bw/3 days for six months. Results revealed a significant (p < 0.05) liver dysfunction, lipid peroxidation and a decline in antioxidant enzymes activities in the liver of cadmium-treated rat compared to control. Compared to vehicle control, the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gammaglytamyl transferase (GGT), acid phosphatase (PAC), phosphatase alkaline (PAL), as well as bilirubin and thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARs) rates were significantly (p < 0.05) increased. Moreover, antioxidants enzymes activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX) and catalase, were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in the liver of cadmium-treated rats. The oral administration of five percent aqueous green tea extract along with cadmium treatment for six months caused a significant (p < 0.05) improvement in cadmium-induced toxicity by significantly decreasing (p < 0.05) the activities of enzymatic markers of liver dysfunction (LDH, GGT, PAC, PAL activities as well as bilirubin rate). Indeed, green tea extract significantly increased (p < 0.05) the enzymatic antioxidants activities (SOD, catalase, GPX) in of rats liver compared with those given cadmium alone. Thus, the oral administration of green tea along with cadmium significantly (p < 0.05) improves cadmium-induced liver dysfunction and stress oxidant in rats' liver.

The mammalian testis is a complex organ which produces spermatozoa and synthesizes steroids. The transformation of androgens into estrogens is catalyzed by aromatase, an enzymatic complex encoded by a single copy-gene (cyp19) which contains 18 exons, 9 of them being translated. In man besides Leydig cells, we have demonstrated the existence of a biologically active aromatase in immature germ cells and in ejaculated spermatozoa. In addition the presence of estrogen receptors (ER alpha and ER beta) in immature germ cells and in spermatozoa has been reported. Concerning aromatase, a 30% decrease of the amount of mRNA is observed in immotile compared to motile sperm fraction from the same sample. In asthenoteratozoospermic, teratozoospermic and asthenozoospermic patients, the aromatase gene expression is decreased respectively by 67%, 52% and 44%, when compared to normospermic controls. Statistical analyses between the sperm morphology and the aromatase/GAPDH ratio have revealed a high degree of correlation (r=-0.64) between that ratio and the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa (especially microcephaly). In men genetically deficient in aromatase diminutions of sperm number and motility have been published. Therefore besides gonadotrophins and testosterone, estrogens are likely playing a relevant role in spermiogenesis and human male gamete maturation.

International audience; Cancers and hepatoprotective prevention using traditional medicines have attracted increasing interest The aim of our study was to characterize the putative protective effects of ethanol and chloroform extracts of Peganum harmala on thiourea-induced diseases in adult male rat. We seek to determine the effects of these plant extracts on body weight, thyroid and endocrine cancer parameters. In addition the putative hepatoprotective effect was checked by the determination of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities and the bilirubin level in the blood. Our data show that ethanol and chloroform extracts of Peganum harmala protected the animal against the carcinogenic effects induced by thiourea since neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and thyroglobulin (TG) levels were back to the normal range. In addition, the observed-hepatocytotoxicity after thiourea treatment was greatly reduced (AST and ALT activities were respectively 270 IU/I and 60 IU/I and in the same order of magnitude as in the untreated rats) as well as the bilirubin levels (6 mu mol/l) especially for animals receiving the choroform preparation. Therefore we may suggest that extracts of Peganum harmala are efficient to reduce the toxicity induced by thiourea in male rat as far as the above parameters are concerned.

A direct approach to identify the cellular source of P450 aromatase in the bank vole testes (seasonally breeding rodents) is the use of immunohistochemistry with a specific antibody that recognizes this enzyme. To confirm the presence of functional aromatase, its activity was measured in microsomal preparations of whole testes and of seminiferous tubules by means of biochemical assay with tritiated androstenedione. The assay was validated using increasing concentrations of both microsomal preparations. Immunoreactive aromatase was found in Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, and germ cells, especially in spermatocytes and spermatids. The aromatase activity was present in microsomal fractions of whole testis and seminiferous tubules. The immunolocalization of P450 aromatase and aromatase activity have been found as photoperiod-dependent.
