Este artículo da cuenta de una investigación que tiene por objeto evaluar cambios en la estructura urbana de ciudades de rango medio insertas en la economía global. Se escoge Copiapó por el espectacular crecimiento económico derivado del modelo orientado a las exportaciones frutícolas de uva de mesa, que constituyó la nueva base económica de una región tradicionalmente minera y semiárida del norte chileno. Luego de 30 años de aplicación del modelo se analizan los cambios en la ciudad y el territorio empleando referentes conceptuales propios del proceso tales como: los “servicios de producción avanzada” y los “artefactos de globalización”./The current paper disseminates research results. Its purpose was to evaluate changes in urban structure of medium-size cities which are involved in the global economy. Copiapó was selected because of its spectacular economic growth supported by grapes table export-oriented model. Then grapes table become a new economic base in a traditional mining and semi-arid region in the Chilean northern. Changes on cities and territory were examined after 30 years of applying model. Conceptual references from globalization framework were applied such as “advanced production services” and “globalization artifacts”.

On a global scale, organisms face significant challenges due to climate change and anthropogenic disturbance. In many ectotherms, developmental and physiological processes are sensitive to changes in temperature and resources. Developmental plasticity in thermal physiology may provide adaptive advantages to environmental extremes if early environmental conditions are predictive of late-life environments. Here, we conducted a laboratory experiment to test how developmental temperature and maternal resource investment influence thermal physiological traits (critical thermal maximum: CT max and thermal preference: T pref ) in a common skink ( Lampropholis delicata ). We then compared our experimental findings more broadly across reptiles (snakes, lizards and turtles) using meta-analysis. In both our experimental study and meta-analysis, we did not find evidence that developmental environments influence CT max or T pref . Furthermore, the effects of developmental environments on thermal physiology did not vary by age, taxon or climate zone (temperate/tropical). Overall, the magnitude of developmental plasticity on thermal physiology appears to be limited across reptile taxa suggesting that behavioural or evolutionary processes may be more important. However, there is a paucity of information across most reptile taxa, and a broader focus on thermal performance curves themselves will be critical in understanding the impacts of changing thermal conditions on reptiles in the future.

Objective: To understand the experiences of adults over 65 years of age with type 2 diabetes mellitus, regarding foot self-care., Method: Qualitative phenomenological study with a descriptive approach. It is carried out in the facilities of the Primary Care Center of Les Planes de Sant Joan Despí, Barcelona, belonging to the Catalan Institute of Health. For the data collection, a semi-structured and individual interview was used, with a script of basic aspects to be explored, not closed and focused on the objectives of the research. The interviews were carried out between June 2019 and December 2020. A thematic analysis was carried out concomitantly with the collection of these., Results: A final sample of 13 persons (4 men and 9 women) participated in the study. Adherence to diabetic foot self-care recommendations is irregular. Participants explain risky behaviours despite knowing that they can cause injury to feet previously considered high risk. The evaluation of the podiatrist supposes an economic cost that some people cannot afford., Conclusions: The nurse has to do an exhaustive follow-up of how persons with diabetes take care of her feet, insisting on preventive recommendations not only in the annual review but every time the person attends the diabetes follow-up consultation. Effective nurse-podiatrist communication is needed to improve prevention and follow-up of people at risk of diabetic foot disease., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier España, S.L.U. All rights reserved.)

The thermal conductivity of nanostructures can be obtained using atomistic classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, particularly for semiconductors where there is no significant contribution from electrons to thermal conduction. In this work, we obtain and analyze the thermal conductivity of amorphous carbon (aC) nanowires (NW) with a 2 nm radius and aC nanotubes (NT) with 0.5, 1 and 1.3 nm internal radii and a 2 nm external radius. The behavior of thermal conductivity with internal radii, temperature and density (related to different levels of sp3 hybridization), is compared with experimental results from the literature. Reasonable agreement is found between our modeling results and the experiments for aC films. In addition, in our simulations, the bulk conductivity is lower than the NW conductivity, which in turn is lower than the NT conductivity. NTs thermal conductivity can be tailored as a function of the wall thickness, which surprisingly increases when the wall thickness decreases. While the vibrational density of states (VDOS) is similar for bulk, NW and NT, the elastic modulus is sensitive to the geometrical parameters, which can explain the enhanced thermal conductivity observed for the simulated nanostructures.

Objective: We assessed the prevalence of bullying and cyberbullying in 12-16-year-olds and the association with student self-reports after a police informative talk., Design: We used a survey to assess the impact of the intervention: 1458 high school students received a police informative talk during the 2018-2019 school year and completed the self-administered EBIP-Q and ECI-Q questionnaires. Perceptions of conduct and bystanders' attitudes were assessed. Correspondence indexes were calculated using Cohen's kappa and gender differences studied using logistic regression., Results: 81.34% (95% CI: 79.33-83.34) of students were involved in bullying and 54.75% (95% CI: 52.19-56.76) in cyberbullying. Almost 90% of participants did not perceive their real bullying correctly. Girls were more frequently victims of bullying and cyberbullying (OR = 1.67 and OR = 1.22, p = .004), but more frequently self-reported being bullies or victim/bully (OR = 0.57 and 0.39, p < .05). Male bystanders reported 7.33% (p < .001) more feelings of inadequacy than girls when witnessing bullying., Conclusion: Poor self-reporting reflects poor understanding of bullying and cyber-bullying. Police information sessions might produce the opposite reactions in adolescents, as they reduce bullying to visible, harmful violence. Educators should focus on adolescent relationships rather than violence prevention. A friendly, male-targeted approach is needed., (© 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

Background: Early adverse stress is a risk factor for the appearance of mental health ailments during adulthood., Aim: To systematically review treatment outcomes on mental health symptoms and functional domains, and of interventions aimed at treating adults with depressive disorders and early adverse stress (EAS)., Material and Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis including experimental and quasi-experimental published studies indexed in the CINAHL, EMBASE, PubMed, and Web of Science databases, which explored the effectiveness of treatment interventions for depressive disorders in adults exposed to EAS. Data on outcomes was extracted from the included studies. A narrative, qualitative approach or a quality-effects model for meta-analysis were used for synthesizing these data., Results: Thirteen studies were included. Psychological or combined treatment interventions for depression in adults exposed to EAS may be effective in reducing trauma-related symptoms and social dysfunction in the short-and mid-term, with small effect size and without substantive heterogeneity. The assessment of anxiety symptoms and health-related quality of life yielded mixed results., Conclusions: Despite the ubiquity of EAS and its adverse and long-lasting consequences for well-being and health, treatment alternatives are scant. This review suggests that there are treatment interventions for depression in adults exposed to EAS that may achieve integral mental health benefits, alleviating its impact on various symptoms and functional domains, when EAS is explicitly considered in the treatment intervention.

Background: Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF) is an instrument to assess child abuse and neglect Aim: to adapt and confirm the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the CTQ-SF in Chile., Material and Methods: The CTQ-SF was applied to 89 clinically depressed subjects (77.5% women) who consulted at an outpatient mental health clinic. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), reliability (Cronbach's α) tests, and convergent validity analyses with clinical markers of complex depression were carried out., Results: The Chilean version of the CTQ-SF demonstrated an acceptable fit to a five-factor model, with adequate psychometric properties. The CFA revealed that a better fit to a five-factor model would be achieved after elimination of two items from the physical neglect scale, the less reliable scale of the questionnaire. The physical abuse scale discriminated between patients with a complex depression versus non-complex depression, and all the CTQ-SF's scales discriminated between patients with high suicide risk and/or history of psychiatric admissions versus those patients without this background., Conclusions: the Chilean version of the CTQ-SF shows evidence of structural and discriminant validity, and reliability, in a clinical sample. Better alternatives to specifically assess the physical neglect construct should be developed.

Objective: To learn about the experiences of adolescents diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis., Method: Integrative review of the literature published within a specified time frame., Results: For both sexes, the predominant clinical symptom of this condition appears to be the negative effect that the deformity exerts on perceived self-image. Quantitative studies used numerical scores to assess perceptions of body image but did not analyse emotional aspects. Patients treated surgically were found to have a better self-image than patients treated with a brace. Quality of life was improved by a reduction in the magnitude of the curve., Conclusion: Spinal deformity exerts a psychological effect on adolescent girls.
