Health and the access to medical services are key factors in the functioning of a sustainable society. In order to provide access to medical and health services, in the conditions of digitalization and implementation of ITC technologies, it is necessary to innovate and achieve synergies between digital and medical technologies. Digitization, innovation and research should be complementary fi elds that represent the engines of a modern digital economy. In this context, the main objective of this paper is to perform an analysis on the online medical systems, both nationally and internationally. This analysis aims to identify the technologies and tools for information and prevention, existing ICT products in the medical fi eld and online medical platforms from Romania and abroad. The main aspects identifi ed in the analysis will represent the premises for designing an innovative online platform, which will aim to increase the visibility of scientifi c information, facilitate access to medical materials and provide personalized digital medical services, created by members of the innovative cluster network „For Health Dunarea de Jos”, existing in the South-East region of Romania.

The research focused on the elaboration of the Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) for the optimization of Smart Manufacturing Processes (SMP) using three types of condition monitoring (CM). The paper presents some considerations regarding the Smart Manufacturing Processes (SMP), especially focused on the Additive Manufacturing (AM) process, by Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology and the way in which the CM and mathematical and probabilistic models can be used, for achieving CBM. The experiments focused on testing three different types of CM: vibration (by vibrometers), sound (by sound level meters) and temperature (by thermal camera and infrared thermography). The experiments and results were analysed, data were processed and a probabilistic model was designed, based on statistical methods, using features/key indicators and their thresholds values. Furthermore, a specific model based on Bayesian network was developed, for achieving CBM of the SMP, specifically to the AM/FDM process. This technique and approach can represent a successful integration of a large number of data monitoring sets and complex modelling and analysis capabilities which can lead in the end to an optimisation of the SMP.

This article presents different ways in which new virtual reality technologies can be used in the development of software applications dedicated to supporting organizational learning/training processes. Thus, virtual reality can offer employees of enterprises in the Romanian economy access to an advanced training system by creating virtual environments that simulate real scenarios in which users have total freedom of movement and interaction with the constituent elements. Virtual Reality addresses to senses and perception. The VR technologies presented in this article address not only basic senses such as vision or hearing, but also senses such as balance or intuition. Thus, the brain is helped by the entire sensory system to receive a rich flow of information that starts from the environment and comes to mind. Therefore, if we present the artificially created information to the senses, the way in which reality is perceived will also be altered. In this context, we will also present the current state of the virtual reality technologies that can be used to implement VR applications as well as the essential principles applicable to the development of virtual reality applications. At the same time, the article shows how the use of virtual reality can support the three important aspects of vocational training: work experience - users having the opportunity to be in unfamiliar workplaces in a 360 degree perspective, learning skills – virtual reality helps to identify the balance between acquiring knowledge and training the experience, allowing the same scenarios to be scanned several times, without additional costs or inconveniences, access to a different perspective - allowing the user to perform actions normally performed by experienced employees.

Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a fusion manufacturing process in which the heat energy of an electric arc is employed for melting the electrodes and depositing material layers for wall formation or for simultaneously cladding two materials in order to form a composite structure. This directed energy deposition-arc (DED-arc) method is advantageous and efficient as it produces large parts with structural integrity due to the high deposition rates, reduced wastage of raw material, and low consumption of energy in comparison with the conventional joining processes and other additive manufacturing technologies. These features have resulted in a constant and continuous increase in interest in this modern manufacturing technique which demands further studies to promote new industrial applications. The high demand for WAAM in aerospace, automobile, nuclear, moulds, and dies industries demonstrates compatibility and reflects comprehensiveness. This paper presents a comprehensive review on the evolution, development, and state of the art of WAAM for non-ferrous materials. Key research observations and inferences from the literature reports regarding the WAAM applications, methods employed, process parameter control, optimization and process limitations, as well as mechanical and metallurgical behavior of materials have been analyzed and synthetically discussed in this paper. Information concerning constraints and enhancements of the wire arc additive manufacturing processes to be considered in terms of wider industrial applicability is also presented in the last part of this paper.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a new generation platform for the smart city ecosystem that offers valuable information on multiple urban dimensions, and whose knowledge provides a direct impact on a large spectrum of users with different interests. This platform will provide a powerful monitoring and control infrastructure that will enable planners to make critical management decisions both on tactical and strategic levels based on the knowledge acquired from the platform software components. This chapter describes such a component called Citizen Incident Reporting, which is a software module that allows citizens to effectively participate in the local governance by documenting their concerns and sending reports to the government order management services. As such, the mobile application will provide better communication between citizens that can spot problems and authorities responsible for their resolution within the Smart City ecosystem.

The polypropylene material meets the needs and requirements in automotive industry due to its features such as wide range of physical properties, ease of processing, and low cost. This research has focused on the investigation of the behavior of polypropylene during ultrasonic welding process. The lap welded samples were examined by modern methods such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Also, the morphology of the non-welded and welded regions of the polypropylene samples was analyzed by Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) method. TGA and DSC results showed a negligible difference between the mass loss of the molded and the welded propylene materials. Furthermore, the SEM images revealed the formation of voids in close correlation with vibration amplitude. The paper addresses the development of advanced welding technologies with two and three solid wires for joining of HSLA API-5l X70 (High-strength low-alloy) steel plates with thickness of 19.1 mm. The experiments were performed using a multi-wire Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) system that was developed for welding of steels with solid, tubular and cold wires, in different combinations. The main goal of the research was to assess the mechanical performances of the welded joints achieved by multi-wire SAW technology and then to compare them with the single wire variant, as reference system. The welded samples were firstly subjected to NDT control by examinations with liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and gamma radiation, with the aim of detecting the specimens with flaws and afterwards to reconsider and redesign the corresponding Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). The defect-free welded samples were subjected to tensile, Charpy V-notch impact and bending testing in order to analyse and report the mechanical behaviour of API-5l X70 steel during multi-wire SAW process. The experimental results were processed and comparatively discussed. The challenge of the investigation was to find the appropriate welding technology which responds simultaneously to the criteria of quality and productivity. Further research on metallurgical behaviour of the base material will be developed, in order to conclude the complete image of the SAW process effects and to understand how the multi-wire technologies affect the mechanical and metallurgical characteristics of the API-5L X70 steel used in pipelines fabrication.

The development of welding technologies and techniques used for advanced materials joining should be closely linked with the design and development of equipment and also with the expectations of end-users involved in the cutting-edge manufacturing engineering. In order to reach this objective, the researchers, developers and producers should work together for designing new welding processes, technologies and equipment that meet the requirements of productivity and cost-effective manufacturing processes. Combining the multiple-arc & multi-process welding solutions, the system presented in this paper was designed to perform longitudinal butt and fillet welds of high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels plates of medium and large thickness, frequently encountered in shipbuilding, oil and gas onshore and offshore industries. The welding system can be easily used for achieving long seams specific to complex ship blocks or sections, pipelines sections, beams, girders and stringers for railway wagons. Based on the modularity concept, the architecture of this innovative welding system was designed as a structure of multiple interchangeable slides, used for positioning and assembling the welding heads typical for gas metal arc welding, submerged arc welding and Laser welding processes. Due to its versatility, adaptability and functionality, the system allows end-users to select the suitable combination of welding processes, in order to obtain butt and fillet HSLA steels welded joints. By controlling and monitoring the process parameters in real time, significant advantages such as weld geometry, high deposition rate and high penetration and, consequently, improved productivity, controlled cooling rate and, hence, reduced stress and strain are achieved. Due to its modularity and versatility, the system can be successfully used in different industrial applications, in several combinations of GMAW, SAW and LASER-hybrid welding processes, for joining of similar and dissimilar materials.

The High Entropy Alloys have been developed in the last two decades by mixing at least four chemical elements in equiatomic or quasi-equiatomic proportions. Due to the large range of structures and outstanding properties, these advanced materials can be used for structural, high-temperature, wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, oxidation-resistant, and electrical elements. In order to extend the applicability area of High Entropy Alloys and to improve the knowledge in terms of their behaviour, the researchers worldwide have investigated the phenomena generated by the welding process and its effects produced on their properties. The findings have revealed that these special alloys can be recommended to be used both in high and low-temperature applications. This paper presents a review focused on the weldability and behaviour of CoCrFeMnNi, AlCoCrCuFeNi, AlCrFeCoNi, and CoCrFeNi alloys during Friction Stir Welding, Electron Beam Welding, Laser Beam Welding, and Tungsten Inert Gas. Original results related to the weldability and behaviour of new AlCrFeMnNi alloys developed and subjected to Shielded Metal Arc Welding, as a technical solution for performing morpho-functional structures used in the military field, are presented and discussed, too. The experimental results demonstrated that an appropriate selection of joining technique and filler metal, as well as an optimal combination of process parameters led to performing quality joints, free of defects.
