Abstract Background Elucidating the intricacies of the sugarcane genome is essential for breeding superior cultivars. This economically important crop originates from hybridizations of highly polyploid Saccharum species. However, the large size (10 Gb), high degree of polyploidy, and aneuploidy of the sugarcane genome pose significant challenges to complete genome sequencing, assembly, and annotation. One successful strategy for identifying candidate genes linked to agronomic traits, particularly those associated with sugar accumulation, leverages synteny and potential collinearity with related species. Results In this study, we explored synteny between sorghum and sugarcane. Genes from a sorghum Brix QTL were used to screen bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries from two Brazilian sugarcane varieties (IACSP93-3046 and SP80-3280). The entire region was successfully recovered, confirming synteny and collinearity between the species. Manual annotation identified 51 genes in the hybrid varieties that were subsequently confirmed to be present in Saccharum spontaneum. This study employed a multifaceted approach to identify candidate genes for sugar accumulation, including retrieving the genomic region of interest, performing a gene-by-gene analysis, analyzing RNA-seq data for internodes from Saccharum officinarum and S. spontaneum accessions, constructing a coexpression network to examine the expression patterns of genes within the studied region and their neighbors, and finally identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Conclusions This comprehensive approach led to the discovery of three candidate genes potentially involved in sugar accumulation: an ethylene-responsive transcription factor (ERF), an ABA 8’-hydroxylase, and a prolyl oligopeptidase (POP). These findings could be valuable for identifying additional candidate genes for other important agricultural traits and directly targeting candidate genes for further work in molecular breeding.

RESUMO Objetivou-se analisar a existência de diferenças nas funções executivas de crianças nos momentos antes e durante o isolamento social pela COVID-19. Participaram 338 pais/responsáveis de crianças com idades entre seis e 11 anos ( M =8,42; DP =0,91). A coleta de dados foi realizada em formato digital, com aplicação de questionário demográfico e Escala de estórias para avaliação das funções executivas infantis. Os resultados revelaram que as crianças apresentaram maior dificuldade nas funções executivas durante o isolamento social, quando comparado com antes do isolamento, foram identificadas diferenças no perfil de funcionamento executivo ao considerar: sexo, idade, ano escolar e presença de dificuldades de aprendizagem. É importante que profissionais de psicologia estejam atentos aos aspectos cognitivos da infância no período pós-pandêmico, durante um processo de avaliação psicológica, deve-se analisar o momento de surgimento das dificuldades no funcionamento executivo da criança avaliada, uma vez que os prejuízos podem ter surgido durante o período de isolamento.

Abstract When using the reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) technique for quantitative assessment of microRNA (miRNA) expression, normalizing data using a stable endogenous gene is essential; however, no universally adequate reference gene exists. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to determine, via the RNA-Seq technique, the most adequate endogenous normalizer for the expression assessment of plasma miRNAs in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Two massive sequencing procedures were performed (a) to identify differentially expressed miRNAs between patients with COVID-19 and healthy volunteers (n = 12), and (b) to identify differentially expressed miRNAs between patients with severe COVID-19 and those with mild COVID-19 (n = 8). The endogenous normalizer candidates were selected according to the following criteria: (1) the miRNA must have a fold regulation = 1; (2) the miRNA must have a p-value > 0.990; and (3) the miRNAs that were discovered the longest ago should be selected. Four miRNAs (hsa-miR-34a-3p, hsa-miR-194-3p, hsa-miR-17-3p, and hsa-miR-205-3p) met all criteria and were selected for validation by RT-qPCR in a cohort of 125 patients. Of these, only hsa-miR-205-3p was eligible endogenous normalizers in the context of COVID-19 because their expression was stable between the compared groups.

ABSTRACT Objective: Describe the activities aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), implemented by a polytechnic higher education institution, in the northern region of Portugal. Methods: This is an experience report from a Higher Education Institution, which characterizes the contribution to the SDGs, within the scope of teaching, research, campus and leadership. Results: In total, 1247 activities were mapped, with a preponderance in the “people” dimension (685 activities), with SDG 3 being the most prominent. Scientific articles contribute significantly to the SDGs, with a notable discrepancy between automatic (Scopus) and manual classifications, indicating a tendency to underestimate the impact of nursing studies. Conclusion: The results demonstrate the significant contribution of this institution to the SDGs, with a special focus on health and education. This contribution reflects the mission of the institution, which involves training competent and socially conscious health professionals, but simultaneously the need for greater awareness and training of the teaching staff.

Objetivo: A pesquisa tem como objetivo identificar o processo de elaboração orçamentária em uma indústria por meio dos aspectos humanos, que estão envolvidos entre cada responsabilidade atribuída aos seus envolvidos. O estudo focou uma indústria de grande porte da cidade do Recife – Pernambuco – Brasil. Metodologia: Como metodologia foi aplicado o aspecto descritivo e qualitativo na condução do estudo. Após essa a definição dos parâmetros da pesquisa, ocorreu a entrevista com o controller da empresa através de um questionário semiestruturado, servindo como base na analisa dos resultados, na tentativa de entender a maneira como funciona o processo de elaboração do orçamento e os seus aspectos humanos envolvidos nessa atividade. Resultados: Nas conclusões, pode-se dizer que o papel de cada pessoa envolvida no processo de elaboração do orçamento precisa estar bem definido e mapeado, principalmente, na maneira como as pessoas envolvidas precisaram atuar, esses pontos definem bem o sucesso no momento de fixar o orçamento dentro da indústria. Contribuições do estudo: O orçamento colaborativo é um tema significativo devido ao número de pessoas que são direta e indiretamente afetadas pela natureza do orçamento. Este estudo considerou as importantes necessidades dos usuários externos e usuários internos de informações financeiras e como essas interações humanas podem influir na elaboração da peça orçamentária.

Abstract Background Lifestyle and habits, cardiovascular risk factors (CRF), bone and mental health, dietary habits, physical activity, among others are developed in childhood and adolescence. Family environment has shown to play an important role in these outcomes. However, whether the parent-child relationship lifestyle habits and health parameters can be influenced by physical activity patterns still unclear. The objective of this study will be to monitor and investigate the associations between lifestyle habits between parents and their children longitudinally, as well as verify whether in more active parents, the possible associations with lifestyle habits are different from those of parents considered less active. Methods The sample will consist of parents (father, mother, or both) and their children /adolescents. The participants will be recruited through public call by flyers spread across all the regions of the city and also through social media. The health parameters will include cardiovascular (cardiac autonomic modulation, blood pressure and resting heart rate), bone mineral density, anthropometric indices, handgrip strength, mental health (quality of life, anxiety and depression symptoms and stress), self-reported morbidities and musculoskeletal pain. Lifestyle habits will include physical activity levels, sedentary behavior, sleep parameters, eating patterns, smoking and alcohol consumption. Sociodemographic variables of age, sex, ethnicity and socioeconomic status will be considered as covariates. The follow-up visits of data collection will be scheduled after a period of 12 months from the baseline assessment during every twelve months. Discussion The family environment has great potential to determine lifestyle habits in children and adolescents. Based on the results presented in the present study, we hope that health promotion actions can be better designed in the family environment.

Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Recent research has demonstrated how epigenetic mechanisms regulate the host–virus interactions in COVID-19. It has also shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are one of the three fundamental mechanisms of the epigenetic regulation of gene expression and play an important role in viral infections. A pilot study published by our research group identified, through next-generation sequencing (NGS), that miR-4433b-5p, miR-320b, and miR-16–2-3p are differentially expressed between patients with COVID-19 and controls. Thus, the objectives of this study were to validate the expression of these miRNAs using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and to perform in silico analyses. Patients with COVID-19 (n = 90) and healthy volunteers (n = 40) were recruited. MiRNAs were extracted from plasma samples and validated using qRT-PCR. In addition, in silico analyses were performed using mirPath v.3 software. MiR-320b was the only miRNA upregulated in the case group com-pared to the control group. The in silico analyses indicated the role of miR-320b in the regulation of the KITLG gene and consequently in the inflammatory process. This study confirmed that miR-320b can distinguish patients with COVID-19 from control participants; however, further research is needed to determine whether this miRNA can be used as a target or a biomarker.

Stem cell factor (SCF) is a major mast cell growth factor, which could be involved in the local increase of mast cell number in the asthmatic airways. In vivo, SCF expression increases in asthmatic patients and this is reversed after treatment with glucocorticoids. In vitro in human lung fibroblasts in culture, IL-1beta, a pro-inflammatory cytokine, confirms this increased SCF mRNA and protein expression implying the MAP kinases p38 and ERK1/2 very early post-treatment, and glucocorticoids confirm this decrease. Surprisingly, glucocorticoids potentiate the IL-1beta-enhanced SCF expression at short term treatment, implying increased SCF mRNA stability and SCF gene transcription rate. This potentiation involves p38 and ERK1/2. Transfection experiments with the SCF promoter including intron1 also confirm this increase and decrease of SCF expression by IL-1beta and glucocorticoids, and the potentiation by glucocorticoids of the IL-1beta-induced SCF expression. Deletion of the GRE or kappaB sites abolishes this potentiation, and the effect of IL-1beta or glucocorticoids alone. DNA binding of GR and NF-kappaB are also demonstrated for these effects. In conclusion, this review concerns new mechanisms of regulation of SCF expression in inflammation that could lead to potential therapeutic strategy allowing to control mast cell number in the asthmatic airways.

Abstract Objectives Bronchiolitis is a leading cause of infant hospitalisation in the first year of life, and it preferentially affects infants born to mothers with asthma. Here, we evaluate cord blood granulocytes in infants born to mothers with asthma participating in the Breathing for Life Trial (BLT), to investigate early life determinants of bronchiolitis hospitalisation within the first year of life. Methods Cord blood from 89 participants was collected into EDTA tubes and processed within 6 h of birth. Cells were stained in whole cord blood for eosinophils (CD45+, CD193+, CD16−), and neutrophils (CD45+, CD193−, CD16+). Medical records were reviewed for bronchiolitis hospitalisation in the first 12 months of life. Statistical analyses were conducted using Stata IC16.1. Results Logistic regression adjusted for caesarean section, gestational age, maternal smoking during pregnancy, foetal heart deceleration during labour, and season of birth revealed an association between cord blood eosinophil levels and bronchiolitis hospitalisation in the first 12 months of life with an Area Under the Curve (AUC) of the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve of 0.943 (aOR = 1.35, P = 0.011). Neutrophils were associated with the risk of bronchiolitis hospitalisation in a univariable logistic regression (OR = 0.93, P = 0.029); however, there was no statistical significance in the adjusted model. Conclusions Higher eosinophil numbers in cord blood were associated with bronchiolitis hospitalisation in the first 12 months in a cohort of infants born to asthmatic mothers. This suggests that susceptibility to bronchiolitis in later life is influenced by the immune cell profile prior to viral infection.

IntroductionThe honey bee ectoparasitic mite, Varroa destructor, is one of the main causes of honey bee colony loss worldwide. Synthetic acaricides are the most commonly used strategy for varroa control, however, resistance to these acaricides has emerged. Consequently, the use of organic acids for varroa control is gaining more interest among beekeepers. For example, oxalic acid (OA) is a natural compound that has been shown to be an effective acaricide against varroa mites, however, the potential toxicity of OA to adult bees and queens is poorly understood. The objective of the study was to evaluate the toxicity of incremental doses of vaporized OA on honey bee workers and queens.MethodsWe exposed 32 colonies to incremental doses (0, 5, 10 or 20 g per colony) of vaporized OA once per week over four consecutive weeks and we monitored the acute and long-term toxicity. We investigated the short-term effects of OA administration by evaluating adult bee mortality, brood production, and population size. Next, we evaluated the long-term effects of OA application on both worker bees and queens. Regarding workers, we investigated their ability to rear new queens. As for queens, we measured acceptance, performance, and sperm quality.ResultsWe found that colonies treated with 20 g OA (20 times the label dose) had a statistically significant increase in worker bee mortality, with a non-significant, 23% decrease in brood relative to controls. No significant differences were observed in queen performance nor sperm quality.DiscussionWe found that repeated application of vaporized OA, at up to 20 times the label dose, had no significant short-term nor long-term, negative effects on colony or queen health, with the exception of a short-term increase in adult bee mortality in the 20 g OA-treated group. The results of this study support the safety of higher-than-label doses of OA for honey bee colonies. The observed increase in adult bee mortality in the 20 g OA dose group in this study suggests that OA doses should be maintained below 20 g per brood chamber.

As Doenças Crônicas não Transmissíveis são uma crescente na população idosa. Essas, dentre outras causas, desencadeiam um aumento no consumo de medicamentos, levando a polifarmácia. Objetivo: Analisar a prevalência da polifarmácia associada a funcionalidade em pessoas idosas hospitalizadas. Metodologia: Estudo transversal, quantitativo, realizado com indivíduos hospitalizados de 60 anos ou mais (n=673). Foi realizada coleta de dados à beira leito, utilizando o instrumento validado Índice de Vulnerabilidade Clínico-Funcional. Empregou-se como variável dependente o uso concomitante de cinco ou mais medicamentos (polifarmácia) e as variáveis independentes foram questões relacionadas as características funcionais – autopercepção de saúde, esquecimento relatado por familiar, esquecimento piorado nos últimos meses, dificuldade para caminhar, quedas no último ano e incontinência esfincteriana. Realizou-se teste de qui-quadrado e regressão logística. Resultados: A prevalência de polifarmácia foi de 28% e esteve associada a deixar de tomar banho sozinho (OR=1,70;IC95%=1,16-2,50;p=0,007), incontinência esfincteriana (OR=2,08;IC95%=1,41-3,07;p

O projeto de edifícios com vários pavimentos com estruturas de aço não é um procedimento usual no Brasil. Credita- se este fato, em parte, à preocupação dos projetistas com o comportamento destas estruturas, quando em situação de incêndio. Neste artigo são realizados alguns experimentos numéricos, em ambiente MATLAB, com o objetivo de avaliar a eficiência do uso de materiais de proteção térmica sobre o aquecimento de perfis de aço. É feita a comparação entre a resistência ao fogo de um perfil de aço com e sem proteção. Compara-se também o uso de diferentes materiais de proteção (argamassas) e o efeito da espessura da proteção no aumento do tempo de resistência ao fogo. Nos experimentos numéricos realizados, a aplicação da proteção térmica nos perfis de aço prolongou o tempo para atingir a temperatura crítica de 11,8 minutos (sem proteção) para valores entre 50 e 127 minutos, variando este tempo conforme o material e a espessura da proteção utilizada.

Neste artigo é feita a avaliação do desempenho de uma estação de tratamento de esgotos (ETE) e da influência do lançamento do efluente tratado na qualidade da água de um arroio local, baseada em dados operacionais, relativos ao ano de 2019, fornecidos pela CORSAN. A ETE Parque Marinha, inaugurada no início da década de 1980, consiste num sistema de lodos ativados com aeração prolongada, composto por um tanque de aeração (reator) e um decantador secundário. Para o esgoto foram avaliados os parâmetros demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, sólidos suspensos totais, demanda química de oxigênio, nitrogênio amoniacal, fósforo total, etc. No corpo receptor foram avaliados também o oxigênio dissolvido e pH. O sistema foi bastante eficiente na remoção de DBO e DQO, mas a eficiência na remoção de nutrientes, especialmente nitrogênio amoniacal, foi baixa.

Abstract The cGAS-STING pathway appears to contribute to dysregulated inflammation during coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, inflammatory factors related to long COVID are still being investigated. In the present study, we evaluated the association of cGAS and STING gene expression levels and plasma IFN-α, TNF-α and IL-6 levels with COVID-19 severity in acute infection and long COVID, based on analysis of blood samples from 148 individuals, 87 with acute COVID-19 and 61 in the post-COVID-19 period. Quantification of gene expression was performed by real-time PCR, and cytokine levels were quantified by ELISA and flow cytometry. Abstract Background Exhaled nitric oxide is a marker of airway inflammation. Air pollution induces airway inflammation and oxidative stress. Little is known about the impact of air pollution on exhaled nitric oxide in young infants. Methods The Breathing for Life Trial recruited pregnant women with asthma into a randomised controlled trial comparing usual clinical care versus inflammometry-guided asthma management in pregnancy. Four hundred fifty-seven infants from the Breathing for Life Trial birth cohort were assessed at six weeks of age. Exhaled nitric oxide was measured in unsedated, sleeping infants. Its association with local mean 24-h and mean seven-day concentrations of ozone, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, particulate matter less than 10 μm (PM10) and less than 2.5 μm (PM2.5) in diameter was investigated. The air pollutant data were sourced from local monitoring sites of the New South Wales Air Quality Monitoring Network. The association was assessed using a ‘least absolute shrinkage and selection operator’ (LASSO) approach, multivariable regression and Spearman’s rank correlation. Results A seasonal variation was evident with higher median exhaled nitric oxide levels (13.6 ppb) in warmer months and lower median exhaled nitric oxide levels (11.0 ppb) in cooler months, P = 0.008. LASSO identified positive associations for exhaled nitric oxide with 24-h mean ammonia, seven-day mean ammonia, seven-day mean PM10, seven-day mean PM2.5, and seven-day mean ozone; and negative associations for eNO with seven-day mean carbon monoxide, 24-h mean nitric oxide and 24-h mean sulfur dioxide, with an R-square of 0.25 for the penalized coefficients. These coefficients selected by LASSO (and confounders) were entered in multivariable regression. The achieved R-square was 0.27. Conclusion In this cohort of young infants of asthmatic mothers, exhaled nitric oxide showed seasonal variation and an association with local air pollution concentrations.

RESUMO Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a atuação dos Núcleos Ampliados de Saúde da Família e da Atenção Básica (Nasf-AB) na perspectiva da dimensão técnico-pedagógica, a partir dos níveis contextuais definidos por Hinds, Chaves e Cypress. Desenvolvido de 2016 a 2017, trata-se de estudo de casos múltiplos, realizado em três municípios pertencentes à macrorregião de saúde de Sobral, Ceará, Brasil. Teve como fontes de informação dados documentais (relatórios de planejamento de atividades e registros fotográficos), observação do processo de trabalho do Nasf, seguindo roteiro estruturado, e seis grupos focais com equipes de Saúde da Família (eSF) e Nasf. Verificou-se a necessidade de reorganização da gestão do trabalho das equipes, a fim de superar desafios como comunicação e reconhecimento dos seus papéis, de forma a melhorar a operacionalização das ações, objetivando fortalecer a integração e avançar na construção de políticas e serviços resolutivos e de qualidade.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of caffeine on cognitive parameters in premenstrual syndrome women of childbearing age undergoing caffeine withdrawal, observing the influence of cytochrome P450 enzyme isozyme 1A2 genotypes. This is a crossover study with 26 women (all participants) grouped according to genotype (17 AA and 9 AC/CC). The cognitive assessment was carried out before and after caffeine or placebo. A significant increase in attention was showed both after placebo and caffeine administration, however, no statistical difference was observed between caffeine and placebo groups. This occurred both for all participants and in the genotype groups. Working memory was improved for all participants, and in the AC/CC group after placebo ingestion; the same did not occur after caffeine intake. In the AA group, no significant changes were observed for placebo or caffeine. Caffeine does not promote effects on cognitive performance in premenstrual syndrome women after caffeine abstinence.

Objetivo: O presente estudo se destina a compreender a percepção das mulheres que fazem sexo com mulheres, referente ao cuidado que recebem nos serviços de saúde, no âmbito de sua saúde sexual e reprodutiva, a fim de verificar se o atendimento ofertado atende a integralidade de seu direito à saúde e, também, evidenciar o papel dos profissionais de saúde na garantia desses direitos. Metodologia: Foi realizada revisão de literatura nacional para elaboração do instrumento de coleta de dados e pesquisa qualiquantitativa através de formulário e entrevista individual via internet. Resultados: Foram obtidas 287 respostas, as falas revelaram as seguintes categorias: A- Violência física sofrida em serviços de saúde, B- Negligência e falta de acolhimento em consultas ginecológicas e em serviços de saúde, C- Presunção da heterossexualidade nos serviços de saúde, D- Invisibilidade e violência moral e psicológica. Conclusão: Evidenciou-se que mulheres que fazem sexo com mulheres ainda sofrem uma série de discriminações e violências nos serviços de saúde, ao buscarem cuidados integrais, principalmente no que tange aos seus direitos sexuais e reprodutivos. COVID-19 is a multisystem disease with many clinical manifestations, including liver damage and inflammation. The objective of this study is to analyze inflammation biomarkers in relation to the clinical outcome and respiratory symptoms of COVID-19. This is a retrospective cohort of patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Hospital Regional do Baixo Amazonas from 2020 to 2022. Data were collected from electronic medical records from admission to the 30th day of hospitalization and soon after hospital discharge. A total of 397 patients were included in the study. In the longitudinal follow-up of liver markers, a significant difference was found for AST on day 14, with a higher median in the death group. Among the hematological markers, lymphopenia was observed throughout the follow-up, with the death group having the most altered values. When comparing the evolution of biomarkers in the Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) and Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV) groups, AST showed a significant difference only on day 14 and GGT on day 1, being greater in the IMV group, and indirect bilirubin on day 7 being more altered in the NIV group. In conclusion, death during hospitalization or a more severe form of COVID-19 was related to significant changes in liver and inflammatory biomarkers.

Several technological approaches have been used to develop vaccines against COVID-19, including those based on inactivated viruses, viral vectors, and mRNA. This study aimed to monitor the maintenance of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in individuals from Brazil according to the primary vaccination regimen, as follows: BNT162b2 (group 1; 22) and ChAdOx1 (group 2; 18). Everyone received BNT162b2 in the first booster while in the second booster CoronaVac, Ad26.COV2.S, or BNT162b2. Blood samples were collected from 2021 to 2023 to analyze specific RBD (ELISA) and neutralizing antibodies (PRNT50). We observed a progressive increase in anti-RBD and neutralizing antibodies in each subsequent dose, remaining at high titers until the end of follow-up. Group 1 had higher anti-RBD antibody titers than group 2 after beginning the primary regimen, with significant differences after the 2nd and 3rd doses. Group 2 showed a more expressive increase after the first booster with BNT162B2 (heterologous booster). Group 2 also presented high levels of neutralizing antibodies against the Gamma and Delta variants until five months after the second booster. In conclusion, the circulating levels of anti-RBD and neutralizing antibodies against the two variants of SARS-CoV-2 were durable even five months after the 4th dose, suggesting that periodic booster vaccinations (homologous or heterologous) induced long-lasting immunity.

RESUMO Este artigo problematiza os efeitos da judicialização da evasão escolar na vida de alunas-mães citadas nos processos judiciais por abandono intelectual, instaurados em uma comarca do sul do Paraná, em 2018. Utiliza como aporte teórico os estudos foucaultianos, de desigualdade de gênero e raça. As fontes de dados são o Questionário Evasão Escolar e dados dos históricos escolares e das matrículas, empreendendo uma análise interseccional dos marcadores sociais raça e gênero. Os resultados encontrados indicam um percurso de reprovações e desistências anteriores à maternidade e à judicialização da evasão escolar, escondendo um longo processo de fracasso escolar, que resultou na expulsão. Os processos judiciais reforçam os deslocamentos das biopolíticas para as alunas grávidas e com filhos/as, produzindo a desigualdade de gênero e raça no espaço escolar, e evidenciam a fragilidade das políticas públicas que garantam, de fato, o direito à educação para as alunas-mães.

In this context, the Wagner Group has emerged as a new instrument that can be used in the pursuit of Russian interests and objectives abroad. Through a comparative case study that draws on Western and Russian academic and journalistic sources, as well as Russian strategic and legal documents, the research aims to understand the role of the Wagner Group in Russian foreign policy. To this end, we begin by investigating the concept of a private military company, then we look into the Group’s origin, history of operations and modus operandi. In addition, we identify other ‘Western’ private military companies and compare their activities and the level of scrutiny they receive in relation to the Russian group. We conclude our research by identifying attempts by international law to respond to the emergence of Wagner and other private military groups.

Neste artigo, buscamos refletir sobre o fortalecimento de produções artístico-literárias variadas, especialmente produzidas de modo independente, por autoras do Semiárido baiano que se apresentam tanto como espaços de criação coletiva, como veios importantes de resistência, considerando que, por meio delas, mulheres vêm ajuntando-se, a fim de fortalecerem seus processos criativos, mas, sobretudo, para darem dizibilidade às suas experiências enquanto sujeitos políticos diversos, abrigando assim uma pluralidade de existências, territórios, linguagens, temáticas interseccionais, que provocam fissuras nos padrões canônicos e colonizadores.

O objetivo foi caracterizar as atividades acadêmicas de estudantes com deficiência visual do ensino superior em situação de ensino remoto durante a pandemia da COVID-19. A pesquisa teve delineamento exploratório descritivo e método de análise de conteúdo com amostra de conveniência. Foi desenvolvida por meio de recursos tecnológicos, com a utilização de roteiro de entrevista semiestruturado e do questionário Critério de Classificação Econômica Brasil. Participaram nove estudantes do ensino superior adultos com deficiência visual. Os dados foram analisados por meio de análise de conteúdo. Não houve diferença significativa entre estudantes de graduação e pós-graduação quanto à dificuldade em utilizar os recursos eletrônicos, contudo, os pós-graduandos relataram maior cansaço e problemas de saúde nesse período relacionados ao aumento da demanda e uso excessivo de tela. É necessário refletir sobre aspectos positivos do ensino remoto emergencial que poderiam ser utilizados no ensino presencial para estudantes com deficiência visual e estabelecer um plano de estratégias acessíveis para ofertas futuras.

Não é de hoje que o aumento da violência urbana e da criminalidade tem se mostrado presente em nossa sociedade. Para além da insegurança e do medo que assombram a sociedade, muitos são os percalços causados nas cidades pelas interferências do poder paralelo junto às comunidades, uma vez que substituem a atuação da municipalidade na efetivação de políticas públicas. É em oposição a esta lógica que Dardot e Laval ao discorrer sobre a teoria dos comuns, se posicionam criticamente face à “ideologia de Estado” por não promover ações com vistas aos interesses coletivos em detrimento dos interesses individuais. Desta feita, o presente artigo busca refletir sobre os desafios das cidades em meio à crescente violência em seus territórios, principalmente, por colocar em xeque as ações promovidas pelos atores da Segurança Pública pelo Poder Local. Para elucidar tal problemática, utilizaremos como recursos metodológicos, a pesquisa documental e revisão bibliográfica, tendo como base artigos acadêmicos e livros. Vislumbra-se demonstrar a partir dos autores referenciados, como a violência e a desigualdade social seguem interligados, e quão necessário se faz romper com a ideia de que os indivíduos são os responsáveis pela segurança, cabendo ao Estado prover e assegurar este direito.

The present work aimed to evaluate emulsion gels from plant sources and their application in frankfurter-type sausages by determining the nutritional, physical-chemical, and microbiological properties of the formulations. Emulsifying capacity and emulsion stability were evaluated with canola oil, water, and three different vegetable-sourced flours (oat, flaxseed, and coconut) to select the emulsion gels. From these results, vegan sausages were formulated to resemble frankfurters and meat Frankfurter-type sausages were employed in the control. Emulsion gels from flaxseed and oat flours displayed high emulsifying capacities and more resistance once the gelling agent was added. Both vegetable-sourced sausages displayed significant differences in protein, fat and sodium. Stability, pH, and water activity did not present significant alterations in 120 days of storage. It was possible to conclude that vegetable-sourced emulsion gels allow the formulation of plant-based sausages with enhanced nutritional properties when compared to traditional meat sausages.

Neste artigo é feita a avaliação do desempenho de uma estação de tratamento de esgotos (ETE) e da influência do lançamento de seu efluente na qualidade da água de um arroio local, baseada em dados operacionais, relativos ao ano de 2019, fornecidos pela CORSAN. Para avaliar a eficiência da ETE foram analisados os parâmetros demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, sólidos suspensos totais, demanda química de oxigênio, nitrogênio amoniacal, fósforo total, Escherichia Coli e Sólidos sedimentáveis. No corpo receptor forram analisados também o oxigênio dissolvido e pH. O sistema foi muito eficiente na remoção de DBO, mas a eficiência na remoção de nutrientes foi baixa. Foi realizado um balanço de massa para OD, o qual mostrou que no período de avaliação a vazão do arroio Martins variou entre 2.163,1 m3.d-1 e 80.921,2 m3.d-1, com média de 30.860,0 m3.d-1.

O objetivo foi determinar as propriedades químicas dos frutos do maracujá do mato (Passiflora cincinnata Maxwell.), com a finalidade de disseminar conhecimentos sobre o potencial nutritivo desse fruto nativo da região semiárida do Nordeste brasileiro. O experimento teve início com a aquisição dos frutos obtidos do Povoado Atalho localizado no município de São José do Piauí. Os maracujás do mato foram escolhidos de forma aleatória, onde foram lavados em água corrente para a remoção das impurezas, seguidamente, imersos numa solução de hipoclorito de sódio, no qual foram submergidos por 15 minutos, e sucessivamente, realizou-se a lavagem usando água potável e posta em bancadas para secar naturalmente, sobre temperatura ambiente 25 ± 2 ºC. Em seguida, cortou-se manualmente os frutos com uma faca em sentido longitudinal e depois peneirado para separar o suco das sementes. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC), onde foram realizadas quatro análises nas polpas e utilizado dez repetições para cada análise. Mediante o teste de SST do maracujá do mato apresentou média de 11,60 ºBrix. Em relação à ATT, a média encontrada foi de 4,91 g de ácido cítrico 100 mL, a relação ºBrix/ATT foi de 2,43, o pH foi 2,34 e o AA encontrado foi de 81,92 mg 100g -1. As propriedades químicas analisadas na polpa do maracujá do mato (Passiflora cincinnata Maxwell.) indicaram possuir potencial nutritivo para uso industrial e para o consumo in natura, sendo capaz de instituir uma relevante fonte alimentar rica, principalmente, em vitamina C.

Introdução: O intenso processo inflamatório desencadeado pela covid-19 tem sido apontado por diversos autores. Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto de marcadores inflamatórios no prognóstico de pacientes com tumores sólidos internados com SARS-CoV-2/covid-19 na primeira onda da pandemia no Brasil. Método: Estudo de coorte com pacientes maiores de 18 anos com câncer, internados em um centro público de referência no tratamento oncológico, com SARS-CoV-2/covid-19, no período de março a setembro de 2020. Os seguintes marcadores inflamatórios foram analisados: razão neutrófilo-linfócito (RNL), derivação da razão neutrófilo-linfócito (dRNL) e razão plaqueta-linfócito (RPL). Foi considerado desfecho deste estudo a ocorrência de óbito durante a internação hospitalar. A associação entre as variáveis independentes e o desfecho foi analisada por meio de regressão logística univariada e múltipla. Resultados: Dos 185 pacientes, a maioria apresentava idade

Introduction Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonellosis (iNTS) is mainly caused by Salmonella enterica serovars Typhimurium and Enteritidis and is estimated to result in 77 500 deaths per year, disproportionately affecting children under 5 years of age in sub-Saharan Africa. Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonellae serovars are increasingly acquiring resistance to first-line antibiotics, thus an effective vaccine would be a valuable tool in reducing morbidity and mortality from infection. While NTS livestock vaccines are in wide use, no licensed vaccines exist for use in humans. Here, a first-in-human study of a novel vaccine (iNTS-GMMA) containing S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis Generalised Modules for Membrane Antigens (GMMA) outer membrane vesicles is presented.Method and analysis The Salmonella Vaccine Study in Oxford is a randomised placebo-controlled participant-observer blind phase I study of the iNTS-GMMA vaccine. Healthy adult volunteers will be randomised to receive three intramuscular injections of the iNTS-GMMA vaccine, containing equal quantities of S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis GMMA particles adsorbed on Alhydrogel, or an Alhydrogel placebo at 0, 2 and 6 months. Participants will be sequentially enrolled into three groups: group 1, 1:1 randomisation to low dose iNTS-GMMA vaccine or placebo; group 2, 1:1 randomisation to full dose iNTS-GMMA vaccine or placebo; group 3, 2:1 randomisation to full dose or lower dose (dependant on DSMC reviews of groups 1 and 2) iNTS-GMMA vaccine or placebo.The primary objective is safety and tolerability of the vaccine. The secondary objective is immunogenicity as measured by O-antigen based ELISA. Further exploratory objectives will characterise the expanded human immune profile.Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval for this study has been obtained from the South Central—Oxford A Research Ethics Committee (Ethics REF:22/SC/0059). Appropriate documentation and regulatory approvals have been acquired. The composition of pumpkin seeds includes bioactive compounds, proteins, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and dietary fibers. Thus, the objective of this research was to develop and evaluate the nutritional and quality standard of beef burgers supplemented with pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita moschata) added in different proportions. To process the pumpkin seed flour (PSF), the seeds were sanitized, dried in an oven, crushed, and sieved. Through such means, three formulations of beef burgers were prepared, named S (without the addition of PSF), F5 (with the addition of 5% (w/w) of PSF), and F10 (with the addition of 10% (w/w) of PSF). The respective results for burgers P, F5, and F10 were as follows (w/w): proteins 17.61%, 18.04%, 19.86%; lipids 12.19%, 12.42%, 14.55%; ash 1.77%, 1.86%, 1.94%; fibers 0%, 0.88%, 1.76%; phenolic compounds 39.55, 82.93, 90.30 (mg/g); and total antioxidant capacity 11.09%, 18.48%, 24.45%. Regarding the sensory analysis attributes, tasters gave sample F10 scores lower than 7. However, the standard and F5 samples showed results higher than 7 for all parameters. For the determination of shelf life, an expiration date of 30 days was established. It was observed that adding PSF to industrialized products adds nutritional value with the inclusion of polyunsaturated fats, phenolic compounds, and dietary fibers.

Este estudo propõe uma análise dos programas governamentais em âmbito federal que compõem o conjunto da política pública educacional voltados à Educação Básica. Delimita-se este tema a partir das premissas da Constituição Federal de 1988, observando o compromisso da Educação em promover o preparo ao exercício da cidadania e sua qualificação para o trabalho, por meio da promoção de um ensino de qualidade. O problema que orienta essa pesquisa é buscar quais são os problemas políticos de ordem coletiva no âmbito da educação básica que os programas dentro da política pública educacional, criados em âmbito federal, visam solucionar? A hipótese repercute de diferentes formas já que são diversas as demandas no âmbito da educação a serem solucionadas. O trabalho utiliza-se do método dedutivo, apresentando os seguintes resultados: grande percentual dos programas constituidores da política pública educacional visa soluções para os grandes desafios sociais na educação, com foco na diminuição dos diferentes níveis de escolaridade, e as diferenças sociais dentro da sala de aula; lidam, portanto, com problemas de ordem coletiva trazidos ao plano político, considerando a conceituação de que uma política pública enfrenta um problema público, entendido como coletivamente relevante.
