We study the $2k$-Hitchin equations introduced by Ward \cite{Ward 2} from the geometric viewpoint of Higgs bundles. After an introduction on Higgs bundles and $2k$-Hitchin's equations, we review some elementary facts on complex geometry and Yang-Mills theory. Then we study some properties of holomorphic vector bundles and Higgs bundles and we review the Hermite-Yang-Mills equations together with two functionals related to such equations. Using some geometric tools we show that, as far as Higgs bundles is concern, $2k$-Hitchin's equations are reduced to a set of two equations. Finally, we introduce a functional closely related to $2k$-Hitchin's equations and we study some of its basic properties., Comment: 24 pages; major changes and typos corrected; sections 2 to 5 have been rewritten; Proposition 3 has been added

Mathematical Physics ,High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
In this article we study an integrable deformation of the Kapustin-Witten equations. Using the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal-Groenewold description an integrable $\star$-deformation of a Kapustin-Witten system is obtained. Starting from known solutions of the original equations, some solutions to these deformed equations are obtained., Comment: 17 pages, no figures

We review the notion of Gieseker stability for torsion-free Higgs sheaves. This notion is a natural generalization of the classical notion of Gieseker stability for torsion-free coherent sheaves. We prove some basic properties that are similar to the classical ones for torsion-free coherent sheaves over projective algebraic manifolds. In particular, we show that Gieseker stability for torsion-free Higgs sheaves can be defined using only Higgs subsheaves with torsion-free quotients; and we show that a classical relation between Gieseker stability and Mumford-Takemoto stability extends naturally to Higgs sheaves. We also prove that a direct sum of two Higgs sheaves is Gieseker semistable if and only if the Higgs sheaves are both Gieseker semistable with equal normalized Hilbert polynomial and we prove that a classical property of morphisms between Gieseker semistable sheaves also holds in the Higgs case; as a consequence of this and the existing relation between Mumford-Takemoto stability and Gieseker stability, we obtain certain properties concerning the existence of Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics, simplesness and extensions in the Higgs context. Finally, we make some comments about Jordan-H\"older and Harder-Narasimhan filtrations for Higgs sheaves., Comment: 16 pages, some minor corrections, last section has been shortened

We introduce the notion of $T$-stability for torsion-free Higgs sheaves as a natural generalization of the notion of $T$-stability for torsion-free coherent sheaves over compact complex manifolds. We prove similar properties to the classical ones for Higgs sheaves. In particular, we show that only saturated flags of torsion-free Higgs sheaves are important in the definition of $T$-stability. Using this, we show that this notion is preserved under dualization and tensor product with an arbitrary Higgs line bundle. Then, we prove that for a torsion-free Higgs sheaf over a compact K\"ahler manifold, $\omega$-stability implies $T$-stabilty. As a consequence of this we obtain the $T$-semistability of any reflexive Higgs sheaf with an admissible Hermitian-Yang-Mills metric. Finally, we prove that $T$-stability implies $\omega$-stability if, as in the classical case, some additional requirements on the base manifold are assumed. In that case, we obtain the existence of admissible Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics on any $T$-stable reflexive sheaf., Comment: 12 pages, some typos corrected

Mathematical Physics ,Mathematics - Differential Geometry - Abstract
We introduce the notion of Hermitian Higgs bundle as a natural generalization of the notion of Hermitian vector bundle and we study some vanishing theorems concerning Hermitian Higgs bundles when the base manifold is a compact complex manifold. We show that a first vanishing result, proved for these objects when the base manifold was K\"ahler, also holds when the manifold is compact complex. From this fact and some basic properties of Hermitian Higgs bundles, we conclude several results. In particular we show that, in analogy to the classical case, there are vanishing theorems for invariant sections of tensor products of Higgs bundles. Then, we prove that a Higgs bundle admits no nonzero invariant sections if there is a condition of negativity on the greatest eigenvalue of the Hitchin-Simpson mean curvature. Finally, we prove that invariant sections of certain tensor products of a weak Hermitian-Yang-Mills Higgs bundle are all parallel in the classical sense., Comment: 10 Pages, some typos corrected and minor changes

We study the basic properties of Higgs sheaves over compact K\"ahler manifolds and we establish some results concerning the notion of semistability; in particular, we show that any extension of semistable Higgs sheaves with equal slopes is semistable. Then, we use the flattening theorem to construct a regularization of any torsion-free Higgs sheaf and we show that it is in fact a Higgs bundle. Using this, we prove that any Hermitian metric on a regularization of a torsion-free Higgs sheaf induces an admissible structure on the Higgs sheaf. Finally, using admissible structures we proved some properties of semistable Higgs sheaves., Comment: 18 pages; some typos corrected

We review the notions of (weak) Hermitian-Yang-Mills structure and approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structure for Higgs bundles. Then, we construct the Donaldson functional for Higgs bundles over compact K\"ahler manifolds and we present some basic properties of it. In particular, we show that its gradient flow can be written in terms of the mean curvature of the Hitchin-Simpson connection. We also study some properties of the solutions of the evolution equation associated with that functional. Next, we study the problem of the existence of approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structures and its relation with the algebro-geometric notion of semistability and we show that for a compact Riemann surface, the notion of approximate Hermitian-Yang-Mills structure is in fact the differential-geometric counterpart of the notion of semistability. Finally, we review the notion of admissible hermitian structure on a torsion-free Higgs sheaf and define the Donaldson functional for such an object., Comment: 24 pages; part of my PhD thesis; some typos corrected and minor changes

- Abstract
Background: Hepatic hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors of the liver, most of them asymptomatic. Surgical management includes enucleation, embolization, and liver resection. We present a case with symptomatic hepatic hemangioma susceptible to surgical treatment. Case Presentation: A 73-year-old man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a history of two small hemangiomas started with pain in the right upper quadrant. Computerized tomography showed multiple hypodense lesions highly suggestive of hepatic hemangioma. Tumor markers were found at normal levels. A right hepatectomy guided with indocyanine green and intraoperative ultrasound was performed minimal bleeding and pulmonary complications. Conclusion: Hepatectomy for giant hemangiomas combined with ultrasound and indocyanine green is a feasible option in patients with comorbidities, decreasing bleeding risk, and allowing complete and surgical resection.

- Abstract
Although submarine landslides have been studied for decades, a persistent challenge is the integration of diverse geoscientific datasets to characterise failure processes. We present a core-log-seismic integration study of the Tuaheni Landslide Complex to investigate intact sediments beneath the undeformed seafloor as well as post-failure landslide deposits. Beneath the undeformed seafloor are coherent reflections underlain by a weakly-reflective and chaotic seismic unit. This chaotic unit is characterised by variable shear strength that correlates with density fluctuations. The basal shear zone of the Tuaheni landslide likely exploited one (or more) of the low shear strength intervals. Within landslide deposits is a widespread “Intra-debris Reflector”, previously interpreted as the landslide’s basal shear zone. This reflector is a subtle impedance drop around the boundary between upper and lower landslide units. However, there is no pronounced shear strength change across this horizon. Rather, there is a pronounced reduction in shear strength ∼10-15 m above the Intra-debris Reflector that presumably represents an induced weak layer that developed during failure. Free gas accumulates beneath some regions of the landslide and is widespread deeper in the sedimentary sequence, suggesting that free gas may have played a role in pre-conditioning the slope to failure. Additional pre-conditioning or failure triggers could have been seismic shaking and associated transient fluid pressure. Our study underscores the importance of detailed core-log-seismic integration approaches for investigating basal shear zone development in submarine landslides.

- Abstract
People across the world and throughout history have gone to great lengths to enhance their physical appearance. Evolutionary psychologists and ethologists have largely attempted to explain this phenomenon via mating preferences and strategies. Here, we test one of the most popular evolutionary hypotheses for beauty-enhancing behaviors, drawn from mating market and parasite stress perspectives, in a large cross-cultural sample. We also test hypotheses drawn from other influential and non-mutually exclusive theoretical frameworks, from biosocial role theory to a cultural media perspective. Survey data from 93,158 human participants across 93 countries provide evidence that behaviors such as applying makeup or using other cosmetics, hair grooming, clothing style, caring for body hygiene, and exercising or following a specific diet for the specific purpose of improving ones physical attractiveness, are universal. Indeed, 99% of participants reported spending >10 min a day performing beauty-enhancing behaviors. The results largely support evolutionary hypotheses: more time was spent enhancing beauty by women (almost 4 h a day, on average) than by men (3.6 h a day), by the youngest participants (and contrary to predictions, also the oldest), by those with a relatively more severe history of infectious diseases, and by participants currently dating compared to those in established relationships. The strongest predictor of attractiveness-enhancing behaviors was social media usage. Other predictors, in order of effect size, included adhering to traditional gender roles, residing in countries with less gender equality, considering oneself as highly attractive or, conversely, highly unattractive, TV watching time, higher socioeconomic status, right-wing political beliefs, a lower level of education, and personal individualistic attitudes. This study provides novel insight into universal beauty-enhancing behaviors by unifying evolutionary theory with several other complementary

This study provides novel insight into universal beauty-enhancing behaviors by unifying evolutionary theory with several other complement

- Abstract
The application of dental wear study to murids has always been ruled out because of their omnivorous diet, which does not leave significant wear on the dentition. Nevertheless, in our work we select Apodemus sylvaticus (wood mouse) as the object of study for several reasons: its seasonal diet, its ability to resist the gastric juices of predators, the fact that it has not undergone major morphological changes since its appearance 3 million years ago, and its widespread distribution throughout much of Europe and part of Africa. The importance of this work lies in the modifications we make to the dental wear methodology for its application to murids. These enable us to obtain quantitative data on the entire tooth surface. The sample chosen was a total of 75 lower first molars from two different archaeological sites: Teixoneres cave and Xaragalls cave. The chronology of the samples chosen ranges from Marine Isotope Stages 5-3. The data obtained reveal that the part of the tooth that shows most wear is the distal part (entoconid). Furthermore, the results provide us with relevant information on the types of accumulations of remains in the caves (short vs. long term), as well as on the seasonality of Neanderthal occupations during the Upper Pleistocene (MIS5-3) of the northeastern Iberian Peninsula.© 2022. The idea that On Certainty reveals a third Wittgenstein has become common in the recent literature. In particular, Avrum Stroll argues that said work sets forth a new and powerful version of non-homogeneous foundationalism. The article examines that foundationalism and defends the argument that On Certainty deploys the methodology used in the Philosophical Investigations in order to point out a new form of logical impossibility. The article also shows how Stroll defends a position associated with substantialist readings of the Tractatus, and recommends an austere reading of On Certainty.
