Abstract

It is shown that the compactification a la Randall Sundrum of the so called, five dimensional Einstein Chern Simons action gravity leads to an action for a four dimensional scalar tensor gravity that includes a Gauss Bonnet term, which belongs to a particular case of the action of the Horndeski theory. The five dimensional action includes new gravitational degrees of freedom that were introduced requiring that the action be invariant under symmetries greater than the usual Poincare or (A)dS symmetries, namely the so called generalized Poincare algebras B5., Comment: To be published in Nucl. Abstract

We consider the curvatures 2 form asociated with AdSL4 valued one-form gauge connetion, and then we construct a four-dimensional action that generalize the Einstein-Hilbert gravity. It is shown that the Maxwell extension of Einstein gravity can be obtained from AdSL4-gravity making use of the Inonu-Wigner contraction method. In the same way, by gauging the AdSL5 spacetime algebra, the Einstein-Hilbert gravity is extended including the vector fields kab and ha which are associated with non-Abelian tensors and non Abelian vectors charges in the AdSL5 algebra. The B5 extension of Einstein gravity can be obtained from AdSL5 gravity using of the above mentioned contraction procedure. Some aspects of a gravity based on the algebra AdSL6 are considered in an appendix.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Management of endometrial cancer is advancing, with accurate staging crucial for guiding treatment decisions. Understanding sentinel lymph node (SLN) involvement rates across molecular subgroups is essential. To evaluate SLN involvement in early-stage (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics 2009 I-II) endometrial cancer, considering molecular subtypes and new European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO) risk classification. METHODS: The SENECA study retrospectively reviewed data from 2139 women with stage I-II endometrial cancer across 66 centers in 16 countries. Patients underwent surgery with SLN assessment following ESGO guidelines between January 2021 and December 2022. Molecular analysis was performed on pre-operative biopsies or hysterectomy specimens. RESULTS: Among the 2139 patients, the molecular subgroups were as follows: 272 (12.7%) p53 abnormal (p53abn, 1191 (55.7%) non-specific molecular profile (NSMP), 581 (27.2%) mismatch repair deficient (MMRd), 95 (4.4%) POLE mutated (POLE-mut). Tracer diffusion was detected in, at least one side, in 97.2% of the cases; with a bilateral diffusion observed in 82.7% of the cases. By ultrastaging (90.7% of the cases) or one-step nucleic acid amplification (198 (9.3%) of the cases), 205 patients were identified with affected sentinel lymph nodes, representing 9.6% of the sample. Of these, 139 (67.8%) had low-volume metastases (including micrometastases, 42.9%; and isolated tumor cells, 24.9%) while 66 (32.2%) had macrometastases. Significant differences in SLN involvement were observed between molecular subtypes, with p53abn and MMRd groups having the highest rates (12.50% and 12.40%, respectively) compared with NSMP (7.80%) and POLE-mut (6.30%), (p=0.004); (p53abn, OR=1.69 (95% CI 1.11 to 2.56), p=0.014; MMRd, OR=1.67 (95% CI 1.21 to 2.31), p=0.002). Abstract

We study the electronic structure of an ordered array of poly(para-phenylene) chains produced by surface-catalyzed dehalogenative polymerization of 1,4-dibromobenzene on copper (110). The quantization of unoccupied molecular states is measured as a function of oligomer length by scanning tunneling spectroscopy, with Fermi level crossings observed for chains longer than ten phenyl rings. Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy reveals a graphene-like quasi one-dimensional valence band as well as a direct gap of 1.15 eV, as the conduction band is partially filled through adsorption on the surface. Tight-binding modelling and ab initio density functional theory calculations lead to a full description of the organic band-structure, including the k dispersion, the gap size and electron charge transfer mechanisms which drive the system into metallic behaviour. Therefore the entire band structure of a carbon-based conducting wire has been fully determined. Abstract

Background: The SUCCOR cohort was developed to analyse the overall and disease-free survival at 5 years in women with FIGO 2009 stage IB1 cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to compare the use of adjuvant therapy in these women, depending on the method used to diagnose lymphatic node metastasis. Patients and Methods: We used data from the SUCCOR cohort, which collected information from 1049 women with FIGO 2009 stage IB1 cervical cancer who were operated on between January 2013 and December 2014 in Europe. We calculated the adjusted proportion of women who received adjuvant therapy depending on the lymph node diagnosis method and compared disease free and overall survival using Cox proportional-hazards regression models. Inverse probability weighting was used to adjust for baseline potential confounders. Results: The adjusted proportion of women who received adjuvant therapy was 33.8% in the sentinel node biopsy + lymphadenectomy (SNB+LA) group and 44.7% in the LA group (p = 0.02), although the proportion of positive nodal status was similar (p = 0.30). That difference was greater in women with negative nodal status and positive Sedlis criteria (difference 31.2%, p = 0.01). Here, those who underwent a SNB+LA had an increased risk of relapse [hazard ratio (HR) 2.49, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.98–6.33, p = 0.056] and risk of death (HR 3.49, 95% CI 1.04–11.7, p = 0.042) compared with those who underwent LA. Conclusions: Women in this study were less likely to receive adjuvant therapy if their nodal invasion was determined using SNB+LA compared with LA. These results suggest a lack of therapeutic measures available when a negative result is obtained by SNB+LA, which may have an impact on the risk of recurrence and survival.

Abstract

The physical mechanisms responsible for pulsar timing glitches are thought to excite quasi-normal mode oscillations in their parent neutron star that couple to gravitational wave emission. In August 2006, a timing glitch was observed in the radio emission of PSR B0833-45, the Vela pulsar. At the time of the glitch, the two co-located Hanford gravitational wave detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave observatory (LIGO) were operational and taking data as part of the fifth LIGO science run (S5). We present the first direct search for the gravitational wave emission associated with oscillations of the fundamental quadrupole mode excited by a pulsar timing glitch. No gravitational wave detection candidate was found. We place Bayesian 90% confidence upper limits of 6.3e-21 to 1.4e-20 on the peak intrinsic strain amplitude of gravitational wave ring-down signals, depending on which spherical harmonic mode is excited. Abstract

Progenitor scenarios for short gamma-ray bursts (short GRBs) include coalescenses of two neutron stars or a neutron star and black hole, which would necessarily be accompanied by the emission of strong gravitational waves. We present a search for these known gravitational-wave signatures in temporal and directional coincidence with 22 GRBs that had sufficient gravitational-wave data available in multiple instruments during LIGO's fifth science run, S5, and Virgo's first science run, VSR1. We find no statistically significant gravitational-wave candidates within a [-5, +1) s window around the trigger time of any GRB. Using the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U test, we find no evidence for an excess of weak gravitational-wave signals in our sample of GRBs. Abstract

We present a search for gravitational waves from 116 known millisecond and young pulsars using data from the fifth science run of the LIGO detectors. For this search ephemerides overlapping the run period were obtained for all pulsars using radio and X-ray observations. We demonstrate an updated search method that allows for small uncertainties in the pulsar phase parameters to be included in the search. We report no signal detection from any of the targets and therefore interpret our results as upper limits on the gravitational wave signal strength. The most interesting limits are those for young pulsars. We present updated limits on gravitational radiation from the Crab pulsar, where the measured limit is now a factor of seven below the spin-down limit. This limits the power radiated via gravitational waves to be less than ~2% of the available spin-down power. For the X-ray pulsar J0537-6910 we reach the spin-down limit under the assumption that any gravitational wave signal from it stays phase locked to the X-ray pulses over timing glitches, and for pulsars J1913+1011 and J1952+3252 we are only a factor of a few above the spin-down limit. Of the recycled millisecond pulsars several of the measured upper limits are only about an order of magnitude above their spin-down limits. For these our best (lowest) upper limit on gravitational wave amplitude is 2.3x10^-26 for J1603-7202 and our best (lowest) limit on the inferred pulsar ellipticity is 7.0x10^-8 for J2124-3358., Comment: 39 pages, 5 figures, Accepted in The Astrophysical Journal

Abstract

We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave bursts associated with 137 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that were detected by satellite-based gamma-ray experiments during the fifth LIGO science run and first Virgo science run. The data used in this analysis were collected from 2005 November 4 to 2007 October 1, and most of the GRB triggers were from the Swift satellite. The search uses a coherent network analysis method that takes into account the different locations and orientations of the interferometers at the three LIGO-Virgo sites. We find no evidence for gravitational-wave burst signals associated with this sample of GRBs. Using simulated short-duration (<1 s) waveforms, we set upper limits on the amplitude of gravitational waves associated with each GRB. We also place lower bounds on the distance to each GRB under the assumption of a fixed energy emission in gravitational waves, with typical limits of D ~ 15 Mpc (E_GW^iso / 0.01 M_o c^2)^1/2 for emission at frequencies around 150 Hz, where the LIGO-Virgo detector network has best sensitivity. Abstract

We report on new LEED, STM and ARPES studies of alkali/Si(111) previously established as having a Mott insulating ground state at surface. The observation of a strong temperature dependent Franck-Condon broadening of the surface band together with the novel $\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3}\to2(\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{3})$ charge and lattice ordering below 270 K evidence a surface charge density wave (SCDW) in the strong e-ph coupling limit ($g\approx8$). Both the adiabatic ratio $\hbar\omega_0/t\approx0.8$ and the effective pairing energy $V_{eff}=U-2g\hbar\omega_0\approx-800$ $meV$ are consistent with the possible formation of a bi-polaronic insulating phase consisting of alternating doubly-occupied/unoccupied dangling bonds as expected in the Holstein-Hubbard model., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. accepted in Physical Review Letters (2009)

Abstract

We present direct upper limits on gravitational wave emission from the Crab pulsar using data from the first nine months of the fifth science run of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO). These limits are based on two searches. In the first we assume that the gravitational wave emission follows the observed radio timing, giving an upper limit on gravitational wave emission that beats indirect limits inferred from the spin-down and braking index of the pulsar and the energetics of the nebula. In the second we allow for a small mismatch between the gravitational and radio signal frequencies and interpret our results in the context of two possible gravitational wave emission mechanisms., Comment: Accepted for Ap. Abstract

Riparian buffers are expedient interventions for water quality functions in agricultural landscapes. However, the choice of vegetation and management affects soil microbial communities, which in turn affect nutrient cycling and the production and emission of gases such as nitric oxide (NO), nitrous oxide (N2O), nitrogen gas (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO2). To investigate the potential fluxes of the above-mentioned gases, soil samples were collected from a cropland and downslope grass, willow and woodland riparian buffers from a replicated plot scale experimental facility. The soils were re-packed into cores and to investigate their potential to produce the aforementioned gases via potential denitrification, a potassium nitrate (KNO3 -) and glucose (labile carbon)-containing amendment, was added prior to incubation in a specialized laboratory DENItrification System (DENIS). The resulting NO, N2O, N2 and CO2 emissions were measured simultaneously, with the most NO (2.9 ± 0.31 mg NO m-2) and N2O (1413.4 ± 448.3 mg N2O m-2) generated by the grass riparian buffer and the most N2 (698.1 ± 270.3 mg N2 m-2) and CO2 (27,558.3 ± 128.9 mg CO2 m-2) produced by the willow riparian buffer. Thus, the results show that grass riparian buffer soils have a greater NO3 - removal capacity, evidenced by their large potential denitrification rates, while the willow riparian buffers may be an effective riparian buffer as its soils potentially promote complete denitrification to N2, especially in areas with similar conditions to the current study. Abstract

Objective: Based on the SUCCOR study database, our primary objective was to identify the independent clinical pathological variables associated with the risk of relapse in patients with stage IB1 cervical cancer who underwent a radical hysterectomy. Our secondary goal was to design and validate a risk predictive index (RPI) for classifying patients depending on the risk of recurrence. Methods: Overall, 1116 women were included from January 2013 to December 2014. We randomly divided our sample into two cohorts: discovery and validation cohorts. The test group was used to identify the independent variables associated with relapse, and with these variables, we designed our RPI. The index was applied to calculate a relapse risk score for each participant in the validation group. Results: A previous cone biopsy was the most significant independent variable that lowered the rate of relapse (odds ratio [OR] 0.31, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.17–0.60). Additionally, patients with a tumor diameter >2 cm on preoperative imaging assessment (OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.33–3.5) and operated by the minimally invasive approach (OR 1.61, 95% CI 1.00–2.57) were more likely to have a recurrence. Based on these findings, patients in the validation cohort were classified according to the RPI of low, medium, or high risk of relapse, with rates of 3.4%, 9.8%, and 21.3% observed in each group, respectively. With a median follow-up of 58 months, the 5-year disease-free survival rates were 97.2% for the low-risk group, 88.0% for the medium-risk group, and 80.5% for the high-risk group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Previous conization to radical hysterectomy was the most powerful protective variable of relapse. Our risk predictor index was validated to identify patients at risk of recurrence.

Abstract

Agricultural soils are a major source of the potent greenhouse gas and ozone depleting substance, N2O. To implement management practices that minimise microbial N2O production and maximise its consumption (i.e. complete denitrification) we must understand the interplay between simultaneously occurring biological and physical processes, especially how this changes with soil depth. Meaningfully disentangling these processes is challenging and typical N2O flux measurement techniques provide little insight into subsurface mechanisms. Additionally, denitrification studies are often conducted on sieved soil in altered O2 environments which relate poorly to in situ field conditions. Here, we use a novel dual headspace system with field-relevant O2 concentrations to incubate intact sandy clay loam textured agricultural topsoil (0-10 cm) and subsoil (50-60 cm) cores for 3-4 d at 50 and 70% water filled pore space (WFPS), respectively. 15N-N2O pool dilution and an SF6 tracer were used to determine the relative diffusivity (Ds/D0) and the net N2O emission and gross N2O emission and consumption rates. The relationship between calculated fluxes from the below- and above- soil core headspaces confirmed that the system performed well. We found no difference in Ds/D0 between soil depth fractions, which was probably because of the preservation of preferential flow pathways in intact cores. Both gross N2O emissions and uptake were not different with depth but were higher in the 50% WFPS, contrary to expectation. We attribute this to aerobic denitrification and simultaneously occurring denitrification and nitrification for the gross consumption and emission of N2O, respectively. Here, we developed a novel system that allows careful control of conditions and, with a headspace below and above a soil core, a more realistic reconstruction of in situ gas dynamics. We provide further evidence of substantial N2O consumption in drier soil and without net negative N2O emissions. The results from this study are important for the future application of the 15N-N2O pool dilution method and N budgeting and modelling, as required for improving management to minimise N2O losses.

Abstract

Purpose Summer catch crop (CC) has been introduced into the vegetable rotating system in greenhouse fields to reduce nitrogen (N) losses through crop uptake and residual N immobilization. However, the effects of planting sorghum with high N uptake and biomass, and biological nitrification inhibition (BNI) potential as a CC on soil N dynamics and subsequent crop yield remain unclear. Methods In the two-year field experiment, the comprehensive effects of planting sorghum as CC on subsequent eggplant yield, soil mineral N dynamics, ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) and bacteria (AOB) amoA gene abundances were determined, in comparison to the sweet corn and fallow treatments. Results Compared to the fallow and sweet corn, planting sorghum as CC increased subsequent eggplant yield by 24.88% and 18.94% in the 2014–2015 and 2015–2016 over-winter growing season, respectively. CC planting reduced soil nitrate (NO3−-N) accumulation during the summer fallow season. Sorghum planting could significantly maintain higher level of ammonium (NH4+-N) concentration during the summer fallow season and the first month of succeeding over-winter season. In addition, sorghum planting reduced soil net nitrifying potential, which could be partially attributed to the decreased amoA gene abundance of AOA at the 0–30 and 30–60 cm soil layers and AOB at 0–30 cm soil layer. Conclusion We conclude that planting sorghum in the summer fallow season is a promising strategy to retain soil NH4+-N, reduce soil NO3−-N accumulation, and enhance subsequent eggplant yield.

30. Optimising the culture environment for early juvenile pot-bellied seahorses Hippocampus abdominalis Leeson, 1827 (Teleostei : Syngnathidae)

Abstract

The general aim of this study was to address questions on early juvenile Hippocampus abdominalis husbandry posed by research and commercial ventures. Experiments assessed the effect of tank colour, temperature, salinity, stocking density, photoperiod and substrate on survival, growth and Artemia ingestion of cultured juveniles. Seahorses are visual feeders; experiments tested the effects of eight background colours (black, blue, green red, orange, yellow, white and clear) and three photoperiods on prey intake and growth. Ten minute observations and growth trials indicated no significant differences among treatments. Seahorses improved growth in 16:08 (L: D) compared to constant light and 08:16 (L:D). Seahorses under continuous light did not improve growth despite continuous feeding opportunity. A subsequent study on adults indicated that H. abdominalis produces elevated levels of plasma melatonin during the scotophase and low levels in the photophase. The aquarium trade in seahorses is primarily focused on tropical species. To assess the adaptability of H. abdominalis to tropical conditions, the effect of four temperatures (17, 20, 23 and 26 °C) on juvenile survival and growth was investigated in two 6-week experiments. Seahorse growth was higher at 20 and 23 °C than 17 °C while 100% mortality occurred at 26 °C. The availability of space in seahorse culture depends on the availability of the attachment substrate in addition to free tank space used during swimming and forgaing. The effect of different stocking-densities and substrate preferences on H. abdominalis was examined. Four stocking densities (45, 30, 15 and 5 juveniles 3 `1^-1`) were tested on newborns over six weeks. A second experiment aimed to remove the mortality effect experienced during the first experiment using 21-day-old fish to test three stocking-densities (25, 15 and 5 juveniles 3 `1^-1`). There were no significant differences between treatments in both trials. Juveniles were provided with three choices in substrate diameter (0.17, 0.55, 0.90 mm) and mesh-density (5, 10 and 24 mm in bar-length, giving high, medium and low mesh density). Newborns and 28-day-old seahorses displayed preference for larger diameters and low mesh-density. Commercial facilities culturing H. abdominalis occasionally experience reduced salinities during seasonal rainfall runoff. To determinate the adaptability of this species to low salinities, juveniles were direct- and gradual-transferred from 32 ppt to salinities do iii to 5 ppt. Juveniles grew and survived in a range of 32 to 15 ppt while 5 ppt produced 100 % mortality. From the study, the environmental conditions which potentially promote optimal juvenile growth and survival are a temperature of 20 °C, a salinity of 20 ppt, a stocking density of 5 seahorses r and a photoperiod of 16:08 (L:D). The information from this study identifies the baseline for future research protocols and provides scientific information on the husbandry of If. abdominalis juveniles that can be applied to commercial culture.

Abstract

Background Methane (CH4) has a global warming potential (GWP) 28 times that of carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year horizon. Riparian buffers strips are widely implemented for their water quality protection functions along agricultural land, but conditions prevailing within them may increase the production of radiative greenhouse gases (GHGs), including CH4. However, a few information is available regarding the dynamics of unintended emissions of soil CH4 in these commonplace features of agroecosystems and how the dynamics compare with those for agricultural land. Aims To understand the dynamics of soil CH4 fluxes from a permanent upslope pasture and contiguous riparian buffer strips with different (grass, willow, and woodland) vegetation as well controls with no buffer vegetation, an experiment was carried out using the static chamber technique on a replicated plot-scale facility. Methods Gas fluxes were measured periodically with soil and environmental variables between June 2018 and February 2019 at North Wyke, UK. Results Soils under all treatments were sinks of soil CH4 with the willow riparian buffer (–2555 ± 318.7 g CH4 ha–1) having the lowest soil CH4 flux followed by the grass riparian buffer (–2532 ± 318.7 g CH4 ha–1), woodland riparian buffer (–2318.0 ± 246.4 g CH4 ha–1), no-buffer control (–1938.0 ± 374.4 g CH4 ha–1), and last, the upslope pasture (–1328.0 ± 89.0 g CH4 ha–1), which had a higher flux. Conclusions The three vegetated riparian buffers were more substantial soil CH4 sinks, suggesting that they may help reduce soil CH4 fluxes into the atmosphere in similar agroecosystems.

Abstract

Purpose Nitrogen (N) transfer from white clover (Trifolium repens cv.) to ryegrass (Lolium perenne cv.) has the potential to meet ryegrass N requirements. This study aimed to quantify N transfer in a mixed pasture and investigate the influence of the microbial community and land management on N transfer. Methods Split root 15N-labelling of clover quantified N transfer to ryegrass via exudation, microbial assimilation, decomposition, defoliation and soil biota. Incorporation into the microbial protein pool was determined using compound-specific 15N-stable isotope probing approaches. Results N transfer to ryegrass and soil microbial protein in the model system was relatively small, with one-third arising from root exudation. N transfer to ryegrass increased with no microbial competition but soil microbes also increased N transfer via shoot decomposition. Addition of mycorrhizal fungi did not alter N transfer, due to the source-sink nature of this pathway, whilst weevil grazing on roots decreased microbial N transfer. N transfer was bidirectional, and comparable on a short-term scale. Conclusions N transfer was low in a model young pasture established from soil from a permanent grassland with long-term N fertilisation. Root exudation and decomposition were major N transfer pathways. N transfer was influenced by soil biota (weevils, mycorrhizae) and land management (e.g. grazing). Previous land management and the role of the microbial community in N transfer must be considered when determining the potential for N transfer to ryegrass.

Abstract

Healthy soils are key to sustainability and food security. In temperate grasslands, not many studies have focused on soil health comparisons between contrasting pasture systems under different management strategies and treatment applications (e.g. manures and inorganic fertilisers). The aim of this study was to assess the responses of soil health indicators to dung, urine and inorganic N fertiliser in three temperate swards: permanent pasture not ploughed for at least 20 years (PP), high sugar ryegrass with white clover targeted at 30% coverage reseeded in 2013 (WC), and high sugar ryegrass reseeded in 2014 (HG). This study was conducted on the North Wyke Farm Platform (UK) from April 2017 to October 2017. Soil health indicators including soil organic carbon (SOC, measured by loss of ignition and elemental analyser), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total nitrogen (TN), C:N ratio, soil C and N bulk isotopes, pH, bulk density (BD), aggregate stability, ergosterol concentration (as a proxy for fungi biomass), and earthworms (abundance, mass and density) were measured and analysed before and after application of dung and N fertilizer, urine and N fertiliser, and only N fertiliser. The highest SOC, TN, DOC, ergosterol concentration and earthworms as well as the lowest BD were found in PP, likely due to the lack of ploughing. Differences among treatments were observed due to the application of dung, resulting in an improvement in chemical indicators of soil health after 50 days of its application. Ergosterol concentration was significantly higher before treatment applications than at the end of the experiment. No changes were detected in BD and aggregate stability after treatment applications. We conclude that not enough time had passed for the soil to recover after the ploughing and reseeding of the permanent pasture, independently of the sward composition (HG or WC). Our results highlight the strong influence of the soil management legacy in temperate pasture and the positive effects of dung application on soil health over the short term. In addition, we point out the relevance of using standardised methods to report soil health indicators and some methodological limitations.

Abstract

Objective: Based on the SUCCOR study database, our primary objective was to identify the independent clinical pathological variables associated with the risk of relapse in patients with stage IB1 cervical cancer who underwent a radical hysterectomy. Our secondary goal was to design and validate a risk predictive index (RPI) for classifying patients depending on the risk of recurrence. Methods: Overall, 1116 women were included from January 2013 to December 2014. We randomly divided our sample into two cohorts: discovery and validation cohorts. The test group was used to identify the independent variables associated with relapse, and with these variables, we designed our RPI. The index was applied to calculate a relapse risk score for each participant in the validation group. Results: A previous cone biopsy was the most significant independent variable that lowered the rate of relapse (odds ratio [OR] 0.31, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.17–0.60). Additionally, patients with a tumor diameter >2 cm on preoperative imaging assessment (OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.33–3.5) and operated by the minimally invasive approach (OR 1.61, 95% CI 1.00–2.57) were more likely to have a recurrence. Based on these findings, patients in the validation cohort were classified according to the RPI of low, medium, or high risk of relapse, with rates of 3.4%, 9.8%, and 21.3% observed in each group, respectively. With a median follow-up of 58 months, the 5-year disease-free survival rates were 97.2% for the low-risk group, 88.0% for the medium-risk group, and 80.5% for the high-risk group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Previous conization to radical hysterectomy was the most powerful protective variable of relapse. Our risk predictor index was validated to identify patients at risk of recurrence.

El trastorno obsesivo compulsivo afecta al 2.6% de la población en México y es un una problemática que afecta severamente la calidad de vida de las personas que lo padecen, siendo clasificado por la OMS como la décima causa de discapacidad en el mundo, por lo que es un problema de salud que necesita atención por parte de los profesionales de la salud. Existen estudios sobre diversos tratamientos para este trastorno, entre ellos se encuentran el tratamiento de exposición y prevención de respuesta y el tratamiento cognitivo. El tratamiento puede ser percibido como aversivo y entre el 25 y el 35 por ciento de los pacientes abandonan el tratamiento debido a la ansiedad que experimentan por la exposición, el Laboratorio de Enseñanza Virtual y Ciberpsicología presenta un tratamiento basado en realidad virtual para poder exponer de forma controlada y menos aversiva a los pacientes obsesivo-compulsivos, el tratamiento se basa en la exposición y prevención de respuesta pero dando la facilidad al terapeuta de poder graduar de mejor forma los estímulos y la posibilidad de poder replicar los eventos la cantidad de veces que sea necesario. Por otra parte al paciente le permite exponerse en un ambiente virtual que le puede parecer seguro y que le permitirá hacer la exposición de forma gradual y menos aversiva. Los ambientes virtuales creados para dicho propósito son lugares contextualizados a la cultura mexicana y que están relacionados con la vida cotidiana del paciente para ayudar a éste a mejorar su calidad de vida así como reducir la evitación y ansiedad experimentada.

In the context of global warming and related carbon capture & utilization strategies, the thermocatalytic hydrogenation of CO2 is one possible route toward the production of “green” fuels and platform chemicals [1]. As far as methanol production is concerned, besides the industrial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 syngas-to-methanol catalyst, some other materials have been proposed to increase the methanol yields and the catalyst stability, but they mostly involve rare or strategic elements such as Au, Pd, In, Ga, Zn, and Ce.In this work, we have assessed the potential of early transition metals (V, Cr, Mn, Nb, Mo, Ta, W, Re) supported on various commercial or homemade titanias in the gas-phase CO2+H2 reaction in a high-pressure flow fixed bed reactor. The catalysts, prepared by wet impregnation-calcination, consisted of metal single atoms and/or clusters anchored on the support, as visualized by scanning transmission electron microscopy. The reference titania materials were commercial anatase (Tronox DT51D, 85 m2/g) and anatase-rutile mixture (80:20%, Evonik P25, 61 m2/g). The metal screening led to the selection of low-loading Mo and Re-based catalysts as the most active ones.The catalytic performance of Mo/TiO2, which was previously regarded as inactive for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol [2,3], is highly sensitive to the Mo loading (0.1-10 wt%) and the titania type (phase composition, surface area, nanoparticle morphology). In particular, molybdenum supported at intermediate loading (3 wt%) on rutile titania nanorods exhibits unexpected efficiency in terms of total activity, methanol yield, and methanol selectivity. Catalyst characterization by various techniques including NAP-XPS and operando XAS, suggests that the most active sites consist of atomically-dispersed and partially oxidized Mo species in intimate interaction with titania [4].Like Mo/TiO2, the Re/TiO2 system containing a similarly low proportion of supported metal atoms is stable and catalyzes mostly CO, methane and methanol production from CO2 and H2. However, it is more active than its molybdenum counterpart. Moreover, Re/TiO2 favors the formation of higher alkanes and alcohols, and the products distribution is even more dependent on the metal loading and the titania type than for Mo/TiO2. From Re/RNR to Re/P25, the main reaction route switches from competitive reverse water-gas shift and CO2 methanolation, to CO2 methanation. Complementary CO hydrogenation tests, CO2 TPD, H2-D2 exchange and operando DRIFTS experiments provide additional insights into the mechanistic similarities and differences between those catalysts.[1]J.
