David Harvey's Spaces of hope and Cedric Robinson's An anthropology of marxism, taken together, point to a renewal of a future-oriented tradition of radical scholarship. This review attempts to create a dialogue between the two texts, by focusing on the common themes as well as points of divergence, to draw out and counter pose their suggestive insights. In the conclusion, Carbonella builds upon the question of the relationship between creativity and institutionalization (raised, respectively, by Robinson and Harvey) to offer some preliminary thoughts on the revitalization of an anthropological research agenda focused on the diagnosis of the possible.
