2. Efficient inspection of underground galleries using k robots with limited energy

We study the problem of optimally inspecting an underground (underwater) gallery with k agents. We consider a gallery with a single opening and with a tree topology rooted at the opening. Due to the small diameter of the pipes (caves), the agents are small robots with limited autonomy and there is a supply station at the gallery's opening. Therefore, they are initially placed at the root and periodically need to return to the supply station. Our goal is to design off-line strategies to efficiently cover the tree with $k$ small robots. We consider two objective functions: the covering time (maximum collective time) and the covering distance (total traveled distance). The maximum collective time is the maximum time spent by a robot needs to finish its assigned task (assuming that all the robots start at the same time); the total traveled distance is the sum of the lengths of all the covering walks. Since the problems are intractable for big trees, we propose approximation algorithms. Both efficiency and accuracy of the suboptimal solutions are empirically showed for random trees through intensive numerical experiments.

This paper addresses a synchronization problem that arises when a team of aerial robots (ARs) need to communicate while performing assigned tasks in a cooperative scenario. Each robot has a limited communication range and flies within a previously assigned closed trajectory. When two robots are close enough, a communication link may be established, allowing the robots to exchange information. The goal is to schedule the flights such that the entire system can be synchronized for maximum information exchange, that is, every pair of neighbors always visit the feasible communication link at the same time. We propose an algorithm for scheduling a team of robots in this scenario and propose a robust framework in which the synchronization of a large team of robots is assured. The approach allows us to design a fault-tolerant system that can be used for multiple tasks such as surveillance, area exploration, searching for targets in a hazardous environment, and assembly and structure construction, to name a few.

Fault tolerance is increasingly important for unmanned autonomous vehicles. For example, in a multi robot system the agents need the ability to effectively detect and tolerate internal failures in order to continue performing their tasks without the need for immediate human intervention. The system must react to unplanned events in order to optimize the task allocation between the robots. In a broad sense, the resilience of a system can be defined as the ability to maintain or recover a stable state when subject to disturbance and it is related to the concept of robustness in industrial systems. In this paper, we study the resilience in a synchronized multi-robot system stated as follows:Consider a team of $n$ (ground or aerial) robots each moving along predetermined periodic closed trajectories. Each of the agents needs to communicate informationabout its operation to other agents, but the communication links have a limited range. Hence, when two agents are within communication range, a communication link is established, and information is exchanged. Thus, two neighbors are synchronized if they visit the communication link at the same time and a multi-robot system is called synchronized if each pair of neighbors is synchronized. If a set of robots left the system, then some trajectories has no robots. In these cases, when an alive robot detects no neighboring robot then it pass to this neighboring trajectory to assume the unattended task. In this framework, a fault-tolerance measure is introduced: the resilience of the system is the largest number of robots that can fail while executing the global task. Interesting combinatorial properties of the resilience are showed that allow to know its value for some usual scenarios., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures

9. Matching colored points with rectangles

Let $S$ be a point set in the plane such that each of its elements is colored either red or blue. A matching of $S$ with rectangles is any set of pairwise-disjoint axis-aligned rectangles such that each rectangle contains exactly two points of $S$. Such a matching is monochromatic if every rectangle contains points of the same color, and is bichromatic if every rectangle contains points of different colors. In this paper we study the following two problems: 1. Find a maximum monochromatic matching of $S$ with rectangles. 2. Find a maximum bichromatic matching of $S$ with rectangles. For each problem we provide a polynomial-time approximation algorithm that constructs a matching with at least $1/4$ of the number of rectangles of an optimal matching. We show that the first problem is $\mathsf{NP}$-hard even if either the matching rectangles are restricted to axis-aligned segments or $S$ is in general position, that is, no two points of $S$ share the same $x$ or $y$ coordinate. We further show that the second problem is also $\mathsf{NP}$-hard, even if $S$ is in general position. These $\mathsf{NP}$-hardness results follow by showing that deciding the existence of a perfect matching is $\mathsf{NP}$-complete in each case. The approximation results are based on a relation of our problem with the problem of finding a maximum independent set in a family of axis-aligned rectangles. With this paper we extend previous ones on matching one-colored points with rectangles and squares, and matching two-colored points with segments. Furthermore, using our techniques, we prove that it is $\mathsf{NP}$-complete to decide a perfect matching with rectangles in the case where all points have the same color, solving an open problem of Bereg, Mutsanas, and Wolff [CGTA (2009)].

Let $S$ be a set of $2n$ points on a circle such that for each point $p \in S$ also its antipodal (mirrored with respect to the circle center) point $p'$ belongs to $S$. A polygon $P$ of size $n$ is called \emph{antipodal} if it consists of precisely one point of each antipodal pair $(p,p')$ of $S$. We provide a complete characterization of antipodal polygons which maximize (minimize, respectively) the area among all antipodal polygons of $S$. Based on this characterization, a simple linear time algorithm is presented for computing extremal antipodal polygons. Moreover, for the generalization of antipodal polygons to higher dimensions we show that a similar characterization does not exist.

- Abstract
Asthma, rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis (AD) are interrelated clinical phenotypes that partly overlap in the human interactome. The concept of “one-airway-one-disease,” coined over 20 years ago, is a simplistic approach of the links between upper- and lower-airway allergic diseases. With new data, it is time to reassess the concept. This article reviews (i) the clinical observations that led to Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA), (ii) new insights into polysensitization and multimorbidity, (iii) advances in mHealth for novel phenotype definitions, (iv) confirmation in canonical epidemiologic studies, (v) genomic findings, (vi) treatment approaches, and (vii) novel concepts on the onset of rhinitis and multimorbidity. One recent concept, bringing together upper- and lower-airway allergic diseases with skin, gut, and neuropsychiatric multimorbidities, is the “Epithelial Barrier Hypothesis.” This review determined that the “one-airway-one-disease” concept does not always hold true and that several phenotypes of disease can be defined. These phenotypes include an extreme “allergic” (asthma) phenotype combining asthma, rhinitis, and conjunctivitis. Rhinitis alone and rhinitis and asthma multimorbidity represent two distinct diseases with the following differences: (i) genomic and transcriptomic background (Toll-Like Receptors and IL-17 for rhinitis alone as a local disease; IL-33 and IL-5 for allergic and non-allergic multimorbidity as a systemic disease), (ii) allergen sensitization patterns (mono- or pauci-sensitization versus polysensitization), (iii) severity of symptoms, and (iv) treatment response. Reported COVID-19 deaths in Germany are relatively low as compared to many European countries. Among the several explanations proposed, an early and large testing of the population was put forward. Most current debates on COVID-19 focus on the differences among countries, but little attention has been given to regional differences and diet. The low-death rate European countries (e.g. Austria, Baltic States, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Poland, Slovakia) have used different quarantine and/or confinement times and methods and none have performed as many early tests as Germany. Among other factors that may be significant are the dietary habits. It seems that some foods largely used in these countries may reduce angiotensin-converting enzyme activity or are anti-oxidants. Among the many possible areas of research, it might be important to understand diet and angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) levels in populations with different COVID-19 death rates since dietary interventions may be of great benefit.

- Abstract
Background: Although there are many asymptomatic patients, one of the problems of COVID-19 is early recognition of the disease. COVID-19 symptoms are polymorphic and may include upper respiratory symptoms. However, COVID-19 symptoms may be mistaken with the common cold or allergic rhinitis. An ARIA-EAACI study group attempted to differentiate upper respiratory symptoms between the three diseases. Methods: A modified Delphi process was used. The ARIA members who were seeing COVID-19 patients were asked to fill in a questionnaire on the upper airway symptoms of COVID-19, common cold and allergic rhinitis. Results: Among the 192 ARIA members who were invited to respond to the questionnaire, 89 responded and 87 questionnaires were analysed. The consensus was then reported. Introduction: Priapism is a prolonged erection that lasts longer than four hours. It is a rarepathology in the pediatric population, with an estimation of 0.3-1.5 per 100,000 children peryear. The diagnostic sequence includes clinical history, physical examination and penile Dopplerultrasound (PDUS). Puncture of corpora cavernosa is not always necessary to establish thedifferential diagnosis between high-flow and low-flow priapism. The treatment of choice inpediatric age is not well defined. Patients and methods: Multicentric, retrospective and descriptive study including patientsunder 14 years with high-flow priapism between 2010 and 2020. Literature review. Results: A total of seven patients were diagnosed with high-flow priapism. None of them required puncture of the corpora cavernosa. Patients were treated with a conservative management, two patients required superselective arterial embolization due to persistent symptoms. Conclusions: High-flow priapism is a very rare entity in pediatric age; therefore, knowing theproper diagnosis and management is crucial. Currently, penile doppler ultrasound is enough fordiagnosis in most cases and allows obviating the use of blood gas analysis. Introduction: Neuropathic bladder (NB) is a lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) that may lead to kidney failure. Urodynamic study is the gold standard for its diagnosis and followup. A classic prognostic parameter to predict the risk of upper urinary tract damage (UUTD) is the detrusor leak point pressure (DLPP) > =40cmH2O, although this factor alone may lack prognostic value. The area under the curve (AUC) of the detrusor pressure tracing has been recently described as a prognostic factor. Aim: To analyze the clinical utility of the AUC of the detrusor pressure tracing in the pediatric population ( = 40cm H2O, voiding dysfunction, bladder compliance and overactivity. The sample is classified according to clinical-radiological findings at the time of the UD. AUC is calculated using Newton-Cotes rules (trapezium, Simpson's rule) and its indexes are calculated according to bladder capacity (TI: Trapezium Index, SI: Simpson Index). Statistical significance: P.05). Conclusions: The analyzed indexes are useful in the diagnosis of patients with NB and unfavorable clinical condition. (C) 2021 AEU. Asthma is a severe and chronic disabling disease affecting more than 300 million people worldwide. Although in the past few drugs for the treatment of asthma were available, new treatment options are currently emerging, which appear to be highly effective in certain subgroups of patients. Accordingly, there is a need for biomarkers that allow selection of patients for refined and personalized treatment strategies. Recently, serological chip tests based on microarrayed allergen molecules and peptides derived from the most common rhinovirus strains have been developed, which may discriminate 2 of the most common forms of asthma, that is, allergen- and virus-triggered asthma. In this perspective, we argue that classification of patients with asthma according to these common trigger factors may open new possibilities for personalized management of asthma. © 2020 The Authors

- Abstract
Precision allergy molecular diagnostic applications (PAMD@) is increasingly entering routine care. Currently, more than 130 allergenic molecules from more than 50 allergy sources are commercially available for in vitro specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) testing. Since the last publication of this consensus document, a great deal of new information has become available regarding this topic, with over 100 publications in the last year alone. It thus seems quite reasonable to publish an update. It is imperative that clinicians and immunologists specifically trained in allergology keep abreast of the new and rapidly evolving evidence available for PAMD@. PAMD@ may initially appear complex to interpret; however, with increasing experience, the information gained provides relevant information for the allergist. This is especially true for food allergy, Hymenoptera allergy, and for the selection of allergen immunotherapy. Nevertheless, all sIgE tests, including PAMD@, should be evaluated within the framework of a patient's clinical history, because allergen sensitization does not necessarily imply clinical relevant allergies.

- Abstract
Currently, testing for immunoglobulin E (IgE) sensitization is the cornerstone of diagnostic evaluation in suspected allergic conditions. This review provides a thorough and updated critical appraisal of the most frequently used diagnostic tests, both in vivo and in vitro. It discusses skin tests, challenges, and serological and cellular in vitro tests, and provides an overview of indications, advantages and disadvantages of each in conditions such as respiratory, food, venom, drug, and occupational allergy. Skin prick testing remains the first line approach in most instances; the added value of serum specific IgE to whole allergen extracts or components, as well as the role of basophil activation tests, is evaluated. Unproven, non-validated, diagnostic tests are also discussed. Throughout the review, the reader must bear in mind the relevance of differentiating between sensitization and allergy; the latter entails not only allergic sensitization, but also clinically relevant symptoms triggered by the culprit allergen.
