Nanotechnology processes are present into the textile field. One of these processes involves encapsulated nanoparticles or nanoproducts, know as microcapsules. Microencapsulation technology is used into textiles to confer new properties and added value. There are a lot of different active core microcapsules used in the textile industry such as durable fragrances, skin softeners, insect repellents, dyes, vitamins, antimicrobials, phase change materials, etc. The effect of microcapsules is usually measured by the presence of a property such as odour measurements when flavours are encapsulated. Neverthless, some properties such as hydration, antibacterial, insect repellents, etc., can't be tested without analytical methods. Microcapsulated products can be applied on fabrics by impregnation, bath exhaustion, foam, spraying and coating. The most extended industrial application is by padding. Microcapsules useful life can be affected by fabrics testing and maintenance to which they are subjected during their lifetime. This work studies flavour microcapsules behaviour on plain and knitting fabrics applied by impregnation when these fabrics are subjected an abrasion test. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been used in order to determinate the quantity of microencapsulated products that remains on fabrics after abrasion tests. We concluded that the abrasion resistance test destroy the microcapsules deposited on fabrics.To sum up, we can indicate that depending on the fabric structure the abrasion test result can differ from one fabric to other. The presence of microcapsules has increased in the textile field. They have been applied as a possible means of introducing new products to textiles, such as fragrances, antibiotics, skin hydrants, etc. This work is focused on the characterization of different fabrics impregnated with diverse nature microencapsulated commercial products. Diverse analysis techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), counter apparatus, foured transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), etc., and methods such as hydration effects, insect repellent test, etc., have been used in researches in order to characterize the fabrics functionalization. A wide variety of microcapsules has been used with fabrics in order to improve textile garments functionalities. Some active ingredients can be used in order to regulate the user temperature so as to avoid enormous changes in temperature. Phase Change Materials (PCM) are the most extended and they can be applied in different ways. Coating is one of the most feasible ones however, polymeric resin used can influence on the heating or cooling effect. This research studies microcapsules useful life on plain and knitting fabrics applied by impregnation. Washing treatments allow us to study the behaviour of the commercial product in each fabric. Fabrics structure characteristics have an important influence in the number of microcapsules that remaining on the fabric. Two instrumental techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and particle size analyzer, have been used in order to determinate the quantity of commercial product that remains on the fabrics and the wastewaters after washing treatments. We concluded that the total quantity of microcapsules washed out of the fabrics in the washing treatments decreases when used plain fabrics. Throughout history, mineral clays have had a multitude of applications. With recent developments in the textile industry, they have been used for their antimicrobial properties. As a promising phyllosilicate with a negative layer charge, montmorillonite (MMT) was used in this work to treat cotton fabric to evaluate its ability to generate negative air ions (NAIs). The MMT was dispersed with varying binder concentrations. Resins of different composition (polyurethane or acrylic) was applied to cotton fabric by padding, and the negative ion count was measured. Two types of MMT with different characteristics were tested. Electronic microscopy (SEM) was used to study the presence of MMT particles on the cotton fabric surface, and the colors of the samples were tested. It was observed that the composition of the binder used had a significant influence on the number of negative ions released by the treated sample.
